The pace of change in health care is rapid, but perhaps no sector is experiencing evolution as quickly as the field of community pharmacy. Community pharmacists are integral members of a patient’s healthcare team, focused on ensuring individualised health outcomes for patients through a combination of medicines supply, management, safety, support, and advice, working in collaboration with other health professionals. Early career pharmacists play an integral role in the future direction of community pharmacy and today we speak to two young leaders of the industry about their experiences and aspirations for the future First, we hear from Jess Hsiao, who is a 5th year pharmacy and pharmaceutical science student at the University of South Australia. Jess is the National Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (NAPSA) President and in the role she strives to strengthen NAPSA’s relationship with industry bodies and build on the foundations paved by previous boards. Also joining us is Lauren Haworth. Lauren is an Early Career Pharmacist with a demonstrated history of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, especially while leading the National Students Association. Lauren is skilled in Professional Pharmacy Services, Communication, Event Management, and Public Speaking and most of all, is passionate about equal healthcare for all.
Dan caught up with NAPSA President Sandra Minas at the inaugural SHPA-NAPSA symposium in Melbourne on Friday. We discussed issues facing students, the results of the latest NAPSA survey and key programs being rolled out by NAPSA. We learn that despite concerns about graduate numbers, the rise of discounters and low pay, almost all pharmacy students are dedicated to their profession, and are looking forward to their careers.
In this special midweek episode, Dan is joined by NAPSA president Shefali Parekh from Congress in Perth. Dan and Shefali chat about NAPSA and the Congress, as well as several topical issues, including codeine up-scheduling, pharmacy student numbers, advanced practice and student placements in hospitals.
Produced by NCEA in partnership with NAPSA and NCPEA PART ONE (22 min) When we talk about “risk factors of elder abuse”, what do we mean? Why is it important to understand risk factors? What are the key research findings on risk factors, and which are most predictive of abuse? PART TWO (16 min) What key points should workers in the field keep in mind about elder abuse risk factors and protective factors? Looking ahead, which areas related to risk factors most urgently need to be studied next? What are some policy implications of what we know about elder abuse risk factors?
