The top three pieces of electrical equipment in our kitchens had listeners engaged, as chef Chris Savage from the Black Bull Inn told us what's essential in his kitchen. Paul Hopkins made the case for men being far better hoarders than women. Nathan Ward's life is so restricted due to a rare condition and the little 9 year old really touched us, as he became emotional talking about not being able to go to school. Fr Brendan Callanan told us about the theme for this year's annual St Gerard's Novena which begins next week in Dundalk. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In his regular monthly spot on PING, APNIC's Chief Scientist Geoff Huston discusses the question of subnet structure, looking into the APNIC Labs measurement data which collects around 8 million discrete IPv6 addresses per day, worldwide. Subnets are a concept which "came along for the ride" in the birth of Internet Protocol, and were baked into the address distribution model as the class-A, class-B and class-C subnet models (there are also class-D and class-E addresses we don't talk about much). The idea of a sub-net is distinct from a routing network, many pre-Internet models of networking had some kind of public-local split, but the idea of more than one level of structure in what is "local" had to emerge when more complex network designs and protocols came into being. Subnets are the idea of structure inside the addressing plan, and imply logical and often physical separation of hosts, and structural dependency on routing. There can be subnets inside subnets, its "turtles all the way down" in networks. IP had an ability out-of-the-box to permit subnets to be defined, and when we moved beyond the classful model into classless inter-domain routing or CIDR, the idea of prefix/length models of networks came to life. But IPv6 is different, and the assumption we are heading to a net-subnet-host model of networks may not be applicable in IPv6, or in the modern world of high speed complex silicon for routing and switching. Geoff discusses an approach to modelling how network assignments are being used in deployment, which was raised by Nathan Ward in a recent NZNOG meeting. Geoff has been able to look into his huge collection of IPv6 addresses and see what's really going on.
Learning From 35 Answered Prayers in the Bible Throughout the Bible, we see the heroes of the faith coming in prayer to God for all kinds of issues, But have you really studied just how they prayed? In this interview with Dr. Nathan Ward, author of _Our Eyes Are On You: A Study of Biblical Prayer_, we discuss what specific things effective prayers have in common and how our understanding of God's nature and attributes should inform our petitions.

Born in Texas to immigrant parents in 1855, Charles Siringo lived a fascinating life from the very start. At the age of twelve Charlie went on his first cattle drive, and then spent decades working as a cowboy. Along the way crossed paths with legendary Old West figures like Bat Masterson, Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett. He was in Chicago during the Haymarket Riot, protected famed attorney Clarence Darrow from a lynch mob, and as a Pinkerton detective pursued Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch for years. And he was also an author, writing multiple books about his many adventures. In the last years of his life he went to Hollywood, where he acted as as advisor to filmmakers churning out early 1920s westerns. My guest is Nathan Ward, who has written the definitive biography of Charlie Siringo, called "Son of the Old West: The Odyssey of Charlie Siringo: Cowboy, Detective, Writer of the Wild Frontier." Nathan and I talk about his new book, Son of the Old West. The Odyssey of Charlie Siringo: Cowboy, Detective, Writer of the Wild Frontier
Charlie Siringo was born in Matagorda, Texas in 1855 and went on his first cattle drive at age twelve. By age thirty, he had published a bestselling memoir, A Texas Cowboy. His later memoir, A Cowboy Detective, focused on his career with the Pinkerton Detective Agency and influenced early crime novelists. What tales did Siringo have to tell that could fill two memoirs? As Nathan Ward reveals in his new book “Son of the Old West: The Odyssey of Charlie Siringo: Cowboy, Detective, Writer of the Wild Fronter,” Siringo led a colorful life, one not only filled with adventures and encounters with renown westerners, but also a life that helped shape western history. In this episode, Nathan joins Russell and Alan to introduce Siringo and talk about what made the man unique and memorable and deserving of a place in western lore.

It is an exploration of the science and spirituality of consciousness, as well as the fallibility of our subjective perception.Music: In some Vedic and Buddhist writing, consciousness is described as a vibration. The music seeks to explore the effects of two waves vibrating together.Production: Opportunities to express the "intelligent machine" concept were explored and used extensively in the production of Waking Up. For example, a custom MaxMSP patch was built to generate specific waveform melodies. Also, an AI model trained on Jenise Morgan's voice was used to create the computer commands heard in the middle of this episode. In fact, AI tools were used extensively, but notably -- every attempt with AI writing or composition failed miserably. The team is relieved that an artist's job isn't replaced quite yet. God’s grace changes the direction of your life. You are making this declaration … “I value you over everything else in my life! I will follow you!” When God’s grace hits your heart and life … you’ll never get over it! His undeserved favor drives your life, priorities, and affections. You live in response to God’s grace. You’re new!!
The return of God’s tithe is the primary way God has chosen and established to resource His work in this world throughout history. It is critical because when you return God’s tithe, you are reminded that God is first. He will never share this position with another. Every time you Return God’s tithe, you are declaring his "firstness". He is honored and pleased! It frees Him to work powerfully in our lives and in this this world.
God does not want a tip, a donation, the best, or the most. He wants the first! The first financial transaction you write should be the Release of the return to the Lord. When you do it His way - He will bless the rest.
Don’t focus only on what’s wrong. Think about all that’s right!!! Think about good things!!! Don’t put pressure on yourself to try to be perfect. You aren’t and never will be. But that doesn’t stop the Holy Spirit from working in and through you. It never has and it never will. Surround yourself with people who have a heart for the Lord and who “have your back” spiritually. Build your support team prayerfully and carefully. With a posture of prayer and a perspective of praise - seek God and with God’s Word as your constant GPS - do what seems to be right.
Jesus experienced stress and anxiety in the Garden praying the night before His suffering, crucifixion, and death. If something is big enough to worry about, then it’s big enough to pray about too. If something is on your mind - then it’s on God’s heart.
Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV) 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
You’re not just a regular Christian! You are a child of God - salt, light, Influencer, and difference-maker. Keep letting His light shine through you - into the darkness. You know who you are. You know what to do. Keep doing it!
You were created for God’s purpose. You were created to bring glory to His name.
We are not, “Just a sinner saved by grace.” We are now a child of God and reject the label of “sinner"! That’s what we were when God’s love and grace captured our hearts, but that’s not who we are. Never say, “I’m just a child of God!!!” You now have a positive ID!!!

If you enjoy shows like The Wire or True Detective, or film noir, there's one guy you can thank for that: Dashiell Hammett. He was a writer in the 1920s-1940s, and he is the guy who created the modern detective. He took the entire genre into the modern era. And Hammett was able to do this because he was in fact a detective for the Pinkerton agency before becoming a writer. My guest today, Nathan Ward, has written a book called The Lost Detective: Becoming Dashiell Hammett. We discuss how Hammett's experience paved the way for the modern American detective in entertainment.
