Hermine “Herself” Zook is a healer who rules over an island in a swampy area of Michigan known as “The Waters.” People, including her three grown daughters, fear her, but her powerful herbal and plant-based medicines have cured the townspeople for decades of viruses, pains, and unwanted pregnancies. The new film “Once Upon A River” tells the story of Margo Crane, an indigenous teenager in rural Michigan in 1977, who embarks on a quest across the rural landscape to find her estranged mother. Director Haroula Rose and lead actor Kenadi DelaCerna join us to discuss.

Haroula Rose wears many hats: singer/songwriter, director, producer. Her big screen directorial debut, ONCE UPON A RIVER, (she also wrote the screenplay), was named one of the 'most anticipated films' by Filmmaker Magazine. Haroula's resume also includes short films and documentaries. When she's not writing or directing, Haroula makes music - her songs can be heard in films, tv series and commercials. “Cowpoke” es una de las tonadas clásicas de vaqueros de Stan Jones, el actor y compositor de Arizona al que le debemos canciones como "Ghost Riders in the Sky". Jones murió de cáncer en 1963 pero su legado en la iconografía de los cowboys no se ha borrado. The Waiting es un EP monumental, fruto de la incontinencia artística de un trovador tejano como Wade Bowen, uno de los sustentos esenciales de la Red Dirt Music. La despedida del programa nos lleva de nuevo al Forum de Inglewood, cuando los Eagles, ya sin Glenn Frey actuaron durante tres días, a mediados de septiembre de 2018. Ahora se ha resumido en Live From The Forum MMXVIII que se editará el 16 de octubre en varios formatos. Al trío superviviente de la banda californiana se añadieron Deacon Frey, hijo de Glenn y Vince Gill, un músico que por sí mismo ha tejido un tapiz imponente dentro de la country music durante décadas. Dispatches from the 2019 Woodstock Film Festival focusing on three outstanding indie films: Ben Kasulke's "Banana Split", Tom Quinn's "Colewell", and Haroula Rose's "Once Upon A River". Guests include all three filmmakers as well as actors Karen Allen, Coburn Goss, Kenadi DelaCerna as well as the musician Annie Hart.

Haroula Rose is a Filmaker and Musician from Chicago, based in LA. Her debut feature film Once Upon A River was called "One of the most anticipated films of 2019" by FILMMAKER, and her most recent short As They Slept will premiere online this year.     

During our time at the Bentonville Film we got to sit down with the cast of an amazing film and getting their takes on the experience was an awesome time to pick their brain and learn about them.
