The Allman Brothers Band, established in 1969 in Georgia, stands as a cornerstone of Southern rock and American music history. Founded by brothers Duane and Gregg Allman, along with Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Berry Oakley, and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson, the band was instrumental in blending rock, blues, jazz, and country music into a genre-defining sound. Their innovative use of dual lead guitars and extended improvisational jams set them apart, creating a live experience that was both powerful and deeply emotional. Tragically, Duane Allman's death in a motorcycle accident in 1971 was a devastating blow, but the band soldiered on, with guitarist Dickey Betts stepping up as a leading creative force. The subsequent album, Eat a Peach (1972), featured both live and studio tracks. Throughout the 70s, the Allman Brothers Band produced a series of critically acclaimed albums, intertwining guitar lines earned them a massive following. However, the late 70s brought internal tensions, substance abuse issues, and the death of bassist Berry Oakley, leading to several breakups and reunions. The band experienced a resurgence in the late 80s and 90s and officially disbanded in 2014. During this time Gregg Allman shared a complex and evolving relationship with his son, Devon. Born in 1972 Devon grew up largely separated from his famous father due to Gregg's demanding career and his battle with substance abuse. Despite this distance, Devon was profoundly influenced by his father's music and the legacy of the Allman Brothers Band. As Devon grew, he pursued his own path in music, forming the band Honeytribe and later joining the Royal Southern Brotherhood. Despite their time apart, music became a bridge between father and son. Gregg and Devon reconnected and shared the stage at various times. Following Gregg's death in 2017, Devon continued to carry the torch of Southern rock through The Allman Betts Band, a group he formed with Duane Betts, son of Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts. The Allman Betts Band re-captures the spirit of the Allman Brothers and the chemistry between Devon and Duane is palpable. Their collaboration is not just a continuation of their family legacies but a creative partnership that has revitalised the Southern rock genre for the modern era. Duane Betts joins me on the show today. Duane is the son of the innovative guitarist and songwriter from the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts, and while he's certainly a chip off the ol' block, Duane has his own thing going on and has finally just released his debut solo album “Wild & Precious Life”. It's an inspired and engaging record - sort of a modern take on southern rock that's unique and definitely has some of the Betts family sound but it's also a great display of a killer band in fine form. Before he was writing and singing his own songs, Duane was a guitar slinger for hire and spent some time in the band Dawes, played with Phil Lesh and Friends, Dickey's band Great Southern, and has had other bands like Backbone69 as well as a band with a few of the other Allman Bros offspring, including Berry Oakley Jr and Devon Allman - called The Allman Betts Band. After those various projects ran their course, it left Duane the time to focus on writing his own music, and after a casual conversation with Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, he was offered their studio to record these new songs in. I saw Duane recently at the Grand Ol' Opry and he and his band did a killer mini-set there. They're going to be out playing all over the place in the coming months, so make sure you go and see them live and pick up the new album. We had a great conversation about all of this stuff and got deep into the process of recording his new album, guitar tones, his history with his own band and the legacy of the Allman Brothers. You can get info on all of Duane's projects and his tour dates at duanebetts.com - Please enjoy my conversation with Duane Betts!Be sure to listen to the Accompanying Songs Playlist which contains some of the artist's work, plus many of the songs we discuss on the show:Playlist on Spotify / Playlist on Apple MusicIf you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting the show with a donation or Patreon subscriptionThe show's website can be found at www.makersandshakerspodcast.comYour fearless host, Steve Dawson can be found at www.stevedawson.ca Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/mmasspodcast. My, oh, my, we are excited about today's guest, a remarkable musician and guitarist who is about to bless the world with an unbelievably joyful album next week. It's coming out July 14, and it's called Wild & Precious Life. The man of the moment is Duane Betts, and the album is packed with soulful melodies, intricate guitar work, and a raw, heartfelt energy that will take you to the place that great music is supposed to take you. Dare we say, it will tickle you. Son of the legendary Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts, Duane is his own force to be reckoned with in the guitar-based rock and blues scene. After cutting his teeth with the bands Backbone69 and Whitestarr, he spent a decade playing guitar alongside his father as a member of Dickey Betts and Great Southern. He then traveled the world as a touring member of Dawes. But in the last five years, he's been on a tear: He released an EP in 2018 and co-founded The Allman Betts Band, releasing two records in 2019 and 2020. And then, it was finally time for a solo album. Which brings us to Wild & Precious Life, which is being released by our friends at Royal Potato Family. A native of Sarasota, Duane says he wanted to capture “that old school Florida vibe” with this record. Well, he did that and more. Along with a powerhouse of a band - Johnny Stachela on guitar, Berry Duane Oakley on bass, John Ginty on keyboards – all three members of The Allman Betts Band, along with Tyler Greenwell on drums and special guests Marcus King, Nicki Bluhm, and Derek Trucks, Betts has gifted us with 10 scintillating tracks cut live at Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks Swamp Raga Studio in Jacksonville, Florida in 2022. Johnny Stachela is without a doubt one of the top slide players in the game today. He's spent his lifetime dedicated to the craft of guitar playing and landed himself not only among phenomenal band mates in his various bands, but also among some of the best of all time. His close friendship and partnership with Duane Betts has resulted in incredible music and every time I've seen them take the stage, I'm left with a musical experience that tops the previous one. We discussed his journey to slide guitar and the influences that helped shape his playing. Johnny tells a fun story about the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa, where I first caught him live and his connection to that place before ever having played there. We also discuss how he adds his subtle and distinctive sound to a band like the Allman Betts band and a few nerdy guitar things along the way. Check out his website to pick up some merch or get on his mailing list to know where he'll be next. His Instagram is also a great place to keep up to date and follow along. This week on Zen Perry Project, Zen sits down with Duane Betts for one of the prolific singer-songwriter-guitarist's most extensive interviews to date! An adept musician even at a young age, Duane cut his teeth as a teen regularly sitting-in with his father Dickey in The Allman Brothers Band. After moving to Southern California and leading rock outfits Backbone69 and Whitestarr, Betts spent nearly a decade playing guitar alongside his father in the group Great Southern. Duane also performed as a touring guitarist for folk-rockers Dawes and was a member of the supergroup Jamtown with G. Love, Donovan Frankenreiter, and Cisco Adler. In 2018, Betts released his debut album, Sketches of American Music, and toured as a guest of the Devon Allman Project. At year's end, Duane and Devon formed The Allman Betts Band along with Berry D. Oakley, son of the late Allman Brothers Band founding bassist Berry Oakley. The group issued two albums- 2019's Down to the River and 2020's Bless Your Heart- before announcing a hiatus in 2022. Let's get into it: NEVADA CURRENT:Tribes in six states awarded $73MM in new high-speed internet grants.Three Nevada tribes will receive $11.6 million for high-speed internet, in the latest round of “internet for all” grants, federal officials announced Wednesday. The funding will directly connect more than 800 homes on tribal lands in Nevada to high-speed internet, improving access to education, jobs, and healthcare on tribal lands.Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said“The Biden administration is committed to fostering meaningful partnerships with Tribal Nations, which have been vital to our goal of connecting everyone in America, with affordable, reliable, high-speed Internet service,” So far, about $1.6 billion has been awarded to 121 tribal nations with funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that passed last year. Those funds have connected more than 3,100 unserved Native American households that previously had no connectivity to high-speed Internet, as well as businesses and community institutions. These awards are part of a series of commitments the Biden administration announced Wednesday to strengthen nation-to-nation engagement between the federal government and Tribal Nations. The Walker River Paiute Tribe in Mineral County will receive more than $6 million to install fiber internet directly to more than 400 households, 22 community institutions, and 10 tribal businesses. The Duckwater Shoshone Tribe in Nye County is set to receive more than $3 million to install fiber internet to nearly 80 homes and 11 tribal institutions. The Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe in Churchill County will be awarded nearly $2 million to directly connect more than 300 households.Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, who has pushed for more broadband funding on tribal lands, praised the announcement Wednesday.“Throughout my time in the Senate, I've worked to make sure Tribes in Nevada have access to critical broadband,” she said. “I made sure these funds would get to Tribes in Nevada in a timely and efficient fashion, and I'm committed to helping Nevadans in every community access the critical educational, business, health care, and cultural resources that the internet provides.”Additionally, the national Affordable Connectivity Program - ACP - provides a discount of $30 per month toward Internet service for eligible households, and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying tribal lands. You're eligible for the benefit If you currently receive SNAP benefits, are on Medicaid, or earn less than 200% of the federal poverty line. That's about $27K for a single person household, or $55K for a family of four.To Apply, visit AffordableConnectivity.govCOLORADO SUN: Colorado Democrats ready to move on gun safety laws.A host of changes to Colorado's gun laws, from a ban on assault weapons to tweaks to the existing red flag law, are already being considered by Democrats at the state Capitol in response to the shooting last month at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs. “Pretty much everything is on the table,” according to Senate President Steve Fenberg, a Boulder Democrat. “The question now is: What is the highest priority?”Democrats will return to the Colorado Capitol in early January with expanded majorities in both the House and Senate, and facing pressure to act after the state's latest mass shooting. Five people were killed and more than a dozen others wounded in a Nov. 19 attack on Club Q, allegedly carried out by a 22-year-old shooter armed with a semi-automatic, AR-15-style rifle.“Tay” Anderson, a Denver School board member, posted on Twitter that Democrats should immediately use their majority at the Capitol to pass an assault weapons ban.Saying “If folks refuse to act, vote them out,”Senate President Fenberg, who said gun control conversations were underway even before the Club Q shootings, said a ban on assault weapons is certainly a possibility. The challenge is figuring out how to write the law - how to define what an assault weapon is, what should happen to weapons already in the possession of Colorado residents, and how to address people traveling through Colorado to neighboring states where the weapons are permitted. It's more likely that Democrats pursue other changes to Colorado's gun laws first, such as raising the minimum age to purchase a rifle or shotgun to 21 from 18. The minimum age to purchase handguns in Colorado is already 21. Sen. Tom Sullivan, a Centennial Democrat, is working on changing the minimum age to purchase a gun. He initially wanted to raise the age only for so-called assault weapons, but thinks a broader change would be easier. “That will save us having to come up with a definition of what assault weapons are,” said Sullivan, whose son, Alex, was murdered in the 2012 Aurora theater shooting. “And that seems to be the consensus that we're hearing from the rest of the Democratic caucus.”There are also discussions about enacting a waiting period that looks like those passed in California and Hawaii, which have 10- and 14-day waiting periods, respectively. Illinois has a 72-hour waiting period after purchases a firearm, before they can access it.Colorado already requires universal background checks on all gun purchases, and has laws limiting gun magazines to 15 rounds, and requiring the safe storage of firearms. People whose guns are lost or stolen must make a report with law enforcement, as well, and there is a statute temporarily barring people convicted of certain violent misdemeanors from purchasing firearms.Colorado counties and municipalities are also now allowed to enact gun regulations that are more stringent than the state's policies after the legislature in 2021 repealed a preemption law. When it comes to Colorado's red flag law, a 2019 policy that lets judges order the temporary seizure of firearms from people deemed a significant risk to themselves or others - legislators might expand the list of who can petition a judge to initiate a red flag proceeding. Right now, law enforcement and family members are effectively the only groups allowed to petition a judge to order a seizure. Gov. Jared Polis has expressed support for adding district attorneys to the list, and others have suggested the attorney general's office, and teachers should be allowed to request seizures as well. The Colorado legislature reconvenes on Jan. 9.COLORADO NEWSLINE: $35 insulin price cap coming to Medicare in January.A recent U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report showed drug companies increased prices for several drugs by more than 500% since 2016. But starting next month, a $35 cap on insulin prices will go into effect for millions of Medicare recipients. The lower pricing is one of the first of several policy measures Americans will see under the Inflation Reduction Act, passed without a single Republican vote and signed into law in August. The insulin cap benefits Medicare Part D recipients, who also no longer have to meet a deductible on their insulin. A $35 cap on insulin pumps for Medicare Part B recipients goes into effect July 1, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Medicare patients spent $1 billion on insulin in 2020, and an estimated 16.5% of people with diabetes rationed their insulin in the past year, which can be extremely harmful to their health or even fatal.According to an analysis of the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act from the Center for American Progress, an elderly middle class couple could save as much as $2,400 per year on insulin.ARIZONA MIRROR: AZ SOS Katie Hobbs recommends criminal prosecutions for Cochise County supervisors who refused to certify their election results. Hobbs wrote to Attorney General Mark Brnovich and Cochise County Attorney Brian McIntyre, that without repercussions, the decision of supervisors Tom Crosby and Peggy Judd not to certify their results could encourage future violations, further eroding election integrity in the state, and stomping on the will of Arizona voters. “Supervisors Crosby and Judd's actions not only demonstrate a complete disregard for the law but also jeopardize Arizona's democracy,” she wrote. “Had a court not intervened, the failure of these two Supervisors to uphold their duty would have disenfranchised thousands of Cochise County voters. This blatant act of defying Arizona's election laws risks establishing a dangerous precedent that we must discourage.” Crosby and Judd threw the Arizona state certification process into disarray last month, when they delayed their official canvassing of the midterm election results in Cochise County, citing bogus claims that electronic tabulators didn't meet required standards. It was only after a court ordered them to complete their statutorily mandated duties that they did so on Dec. 1, days after the Nov. 28 deadline. Their actions put the official statewide canvass in jeopardy, as Hobbs must meet a Dec. 5 deadline to certify the results. She can only push that deadline as far as Dec. 8. If she decided to go ahead with the process without the results from Cochise County, a heavily Republican region, more than 47,000 voters could have seen their ballots ignored and a number of races would have flipped in favor of Democratic candidates. The responsibilities of county supervisors are clearly laid out in state law and the state's Election Procedures Manual, Hobbs said, and they are non-negotiable. And, Crosby and Judd were given ample notification of the consequences.“Supervisors Crosby and Judd knew they had a statutory requirement to canvass the election by November 28, but instead chose to act in violation of the law, putting false election narratives ahead of Cochise County's voters,” Hobbs wrote. Hobbs, who was elected governor in the election, wrote that the two Republicans violated several state laws, with penalties ranging from a class 3 misdemeanor to a class 6 felony. If Crosby and Judd were convicted of a felony, their right to vote would be revoked. They also stand to lose their elected office: State law deems an elected office vacant if the officeholder is convicted of a felony or any “offense involving a violation of the person's official duties”. This is the second call for an investigation into the Supervisors possibly criminal acts - Earlier this week, former Attorney General Terry Goddard and Maricopa County Attorney Richard Romley wrote to outgoing AG Brnovich requesting he hold Crosby and Judd accountable. It's likely that Attorney General-elect Kris Mayes will make the final decision on whether to prosecute, once she takes office in January. In a statement, she said she agrees with the request from Hobbs' office to begin an investigation, and said that it is through that process that a decision on what further response, if any, is appropriate.COURTHOUSE NEWS SERVICE: Didn't we do this aJustices signal support for web designer who won't help gay couples with weddingsThe conservative majority appeared ready to answer a question the high court dodged four years ago: Must creative businesses put aside their religious beliefs to accommodate the beliefs of protected groups? WASHINGTON (CN) — A six-year crusade came to a head at the Supreme Court on Monday, pitting Colorado's nondiscrimination law against a Christian website designer who refuses to create wedding websites for same-sex couples. It was unsurprising that the narrow question at the center of the case perplexed many of the justices, since the high court passed up on answering it only four years ago. In Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, the court ruled in favor of a cakemaker refusing his services to a same-sex couple, but declined to expand the ruling much beyond the case in front of them. Lorie Smith's case brings that topic to a head. Stating that her Christian beliefs confine marriage only to heterosexual couples, Smith argues that Colorado's anti-discrimination laws - protecting LGBTQ+ Coloradans as well as others - violate her free speech rights. Smith's attorney argued that “Colorado is declaring her speech a public accommodation, and insists that she create and speak messages that violate her conscience.” After two and a half hours of arguments, the conservative majority appeared inclined to agree. The liberal wing of the court expressed concern that a ruling for Smith could snowball into a free speech loophole allowing discrimination. Justice Sonia Sotomayor questioned where the court would draw the line, on what kind of discrimination would be permitted - noting that the same arguments could be made for interracial marriage or even for excluding people with disabilities. The hypothetical-heavy arguments included almost every culture-wars issue on the books including discrimination on race, religion, sexual orientation and political preference. These scenarios conveyed a worry by some justices about how far even a narrow ruling in the case could extend. Colorado Solicitor General Eric Olson said Smith's request for a free-speech exemption clause to the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act would equate to a “license to discriminate.” “The free speech protection the company seeks here is sweeping, because it would apply not just to sincerely held religious beliefs as in this case, but also to all sorts of racist, sexist and bigoted views,” Olson said. “This rule would allow another web design company to say no to interracial couples, an ad agency could refuse to run ads for women-led businesses, and a tech consulting company could refuse to serve the web designer here, because it disagreed with her views on marriage. Where exactly to draw the line between free speech and anti-discrimination laws eluded many of the justices. This was partly because Smith brought the justices a preenforcement suit - she filed her suit against the state of Colorado before any same-sex couple actually requested her services. This creates difficulties for the justices in deciding a ruling. Justice Elena Kagan said the reason for the multitude of hypotheticals during oral argument was due to the lack of facts in the case - which make the justices' ruling all the more difficult. Kagan said “It really depends on the facts, and on what exactly Ms. Smith is being asked or compelled to do.”I could definitely be wrong, but as far as I can tell, the actual free speech claim isn't really justiciable without a real action from the state against the business owner. Seems like it's not ripe, as they say.But the court, in its infinite power, could rule on whether the 1st Amendment Free Speech clause of the Constitution provides an out for companies looking to discriminate against certain customers. You might be thinking, doesn't the U.S. Constitution protect all Americans from discrimination based on sex? It does - but that protection only applies to discriminatory actions by the state. So the state can't deny you a marriage license because of your sex or your partner's sex. The state can't deny you employment or throw you in jail, either - anymore. Here, it's a business that wants the right to turn away same-sex couples, and the state is looking to enforce a state anti-discrimination law - which may or may not conflict with the business owner's protected free speech. It's not a slam dunk that the conservative Supreme Court will rule for the anti-gay web designer, though. No small number of right-wing attorneys have made their entire careers using anti-discrimination laws on behalf of white people, to unravel protections for marginalized groups. If college admissions boards, for example, decide that admitting too many white students is not the ‘statement' they want to make - the ruling against the gay couple might undermine its own rulings on affirmative action practices. The Supreme Court has a highly interesting - and highly secretive - process of passing opinions back and forth to each other. Picking apart each other's arguments, and putting their heads together before the actual ruling comes out. We won't get much of a picture into that, but you can bet this year's Supreme Court clerks are going to be busy. Devon Allman has quickly established himself as one of Southern Rock's best frontmen. He began his musical journey as a teenager, meeting his dad, the legendary southern rocker Greg Allman, at 16. Along with Duane Betts, the son of Allman Brothers band member Dickey Betts, they formed The Allman Betts Band. The group's soulful, blues-based sound is reminiscent of their father's yet contains an original vibe not felt in years by true Southern Rock fans. I caught up with Devon while working on projects in his St. Louis area studio between tour dates. In late July, they begin the Spirit of the South Tour with Blackberry Smoke. Their latest album, Bless Your Heart, was released in 2020.
When Devon Allman was 20 years old, he was playing a gig at one of the largest outdoor venues in St. Louis, his hometown, and the reception was not what he had hoped. The son of Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Gregg Allman – a principle architect of American Classic Rock – Devon discussed his frustrations and fears with his mother, Shelley Jefts. She calmly reminded him that, “not everyone is going to like you.” That guidance helped Devon put the pressure of being the son of one of the great rock music icons behind him, which is easier said than done. Since then, he's built a sturdy career with several solo records and in bands like Honeytribe and the Royal Southern Brotherhood – traversing across the globe and entertaining millions. But in 2018, when he formed the critically-acclaimed Allman Betts Band with fellow Allman Brothers Band offspring Duane Betts and Berry Duane Oakley, Devon finally felt like he was home. As he put it to me on the latest episode of The Load Out Music Podcast, he had spent "20 years couch surfing and finally bought a house." Allman Betts released its first record, “Down to the River,” in 2019. Then in 2020, the band released its follow up effort, “Bless Your Heart.” Both albums were well-received and Allman Betts' following continues to grow as COVID restrictions being to lift and the gates prepare to bust wide open for live music once again. Devon digs deep discussing his career, meeting the father he met for the first time at age 16, the music that hooked him into becoming an artist, and his hopes of using his new record label to launch one star annually until his days are numbered. So listen up. Devon Allman has a lot to say. Enjoy!

This week - it's a rock-n roll-family affair with a special conversation with Devon Allman and Duane Betts - two guitar-slinging sons of the iconic Allman Brothers Band who formed their own soulful supergroup in 2019 - The Allman Betts Band. With their debut record 'Down To The River,' Allman and Betts - who took turns playing alongside their revered dads Gregg and Dickey as teenagers - finally banded together to create a new collection of the soaring slide-guitar-centered Gulf-coast rock and brawny road-tested blues that both pays homage to their heady upbringings and forges their own way forward. Even their touring bassist has a familiar name to Allman die-hards: Berry Oakley Jr., whose dad was one of the Allman Brothers' founding members when they formed in 1969 out of Jacksonville, FL. While many groups were stuck at home licking their wounds as the pandemic shut down most touring options, Devon and Duane's crew tapped into the nascent drive-in circuit, bringing their spirited 2020 release 'Bless Your Heart' to a whole new set of excited fans. Always sticking to their southern roots, they laid down both records at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios with producer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Elvis Presley.) While history is always dancing in the margins of the songs, it's clear on this second offering that they wanted to create stories that didn't only reflect their roaring live shows. Standout songs like the soft piano ballad “Doctor's Daughter” show the group roving in new, more nuanced directions - while “Autumn Breeze” is a pulsing, slow-burn, but features the effortless twin guitar lines that made their dads' work so instantly recognizable. Of course playing in the family business wasn't always a given for the guys - especially Devon who only met his hard-touring father Gregg at sixteen. Devon first started hanging out with young Duane - then only twelve - in 1989 on the Allman Brothers' 20th Anniversary tour. As he describes in the episode, Devon wasn't sure he wanted to follow in his father's hard-to-follow footsteps, but once he sat in on “Midnight Rider“ and the crowd went crazy? It was off to the races. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Allman Brothers' breakout record 'Live At The Fillmore East' - which I grew up listening to on loop with my father. Though Duane Allman died tragically in a 1971 accident before his namesake was born, and Gregg passed away in 2017, their spirit lives on in the Allman Betts' epic live show - which is already gearing up for the tentative 2021 touring season.
Son of a legend, guitar slinger, Malibu local by way of the Gulf Coast - Duane Betts reports from deep in a Michigan forest on the current state of the Allman Betts Band!
No Simple Road is proud to have the one and only Duane Betts as our guest this week. Duane cut his teeth sitting-in regularly as a teen with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Allman Brothers Band. A Sarasota, Florida native, Betts relocated to Southern California and led Malibu rock outfits such as Backbone69 and Whitestarr, then ascended to a near-decade stint playing guitar alongside his father, Dickey Betts, in his group, Great Southern. Whether as a touring guitarist for folk-rockers Dawes or sharing the stage with luminaries from Jack Johnson and G. Love to Kid Rock and Phil Lesh, Betts became a consummate musician, honing his craft, and issuing his first solo effort in 2017. Duane joins No Simple Road to talk about creating the new Allman Betts Band album 'Bless Your Heart', navigating the pull of social media, creating music that is faithful to his roots while still maintaining his own sound, growing up in a legendary musical family, memories of Grandma's giblet gravy, and much more!Check out the new Allman Betts Band album "Bless Your Heart' everywhere music streams and for more on the band including tour news, bios, and more head over to www.allmanbettsband.comSONG AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INTERVIEW: 'Should We Ever Part' off 'Bless Your Heart'SONG AT THE END OF THE INTERVIEW: 'Magolia Road' off ' Bless Your Heart'FREE SHIPPING FROM Shop Tour Bus Use The PROMO: nosimpleroadFor 20% off Sunset Lake CBD PROMO CODE: NSR20 For 10% off Electric Fish Lights PROMO CODE: NSR INTRO MUSIC BY AND USED WITH OUR GRATITUDE AND THE PERMISSION OF:CIRCLES AROUND THE SUNBecome a Patron through Patreon.comLeave us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts! No Simple Road is part of OSIRIS MEDIA. On this episode of Plus One Eric talks with Duane Betts and Devon Allman, founding members of The Allman Betts Band. Devon and Duane each have had distinguished solo careers, but it was inevitable that one day the two would team up to revitalize their long-running familial musical connection. The Allman Betts Band formed in 2018 and kicked off their new musical endeavor with a well-received 2019 tour of the U.S., including several European dates.Having grown up on the road enraptured with rock n’ roll music, it’s fitting that the two partners have made a livelihood out of their infatuation with the art form. While you may hear the band’s name and think of their rock-legend fathers Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts, make no mistake- these two young-guns have given new life to the soaring southern rock melodies that their fathers helped to pioneer. In this episode Duane, Devon, and Kraz talk about growing up in the heat of the rock n’ roll daydream, songwriting chemistry between the two, Duane’s incredible tale of meeting his father Gregg, and much more. Check out Kraz delivering another riveting interview with these two rockin’ reinventors. This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Allman/Betts Band thursday 10/22/2020 at South Farms. Saw them last year absolutely incredible don't miss this show.
Duane Betts is a singer-songwriter and guitarist for The Allman Betts Band. Duane joins Rhett to talk about recording the new Allman Betts album “Bless Your Heart” and what he’s been up to while quarantined in Wyoming. Duane tells Rhett why he originally wanted to be a drummer, how he manages stress and the feeling of imposter syndrome, and shares some of the lessons he learned from his father, musician Dickey Betts.
Souther o Will Oldham han incorporado temas propios. Devon Allman & Duane Betts of The Allman Betts Band talk to MNPR Magazine's Dan Reid about the New album 'Bless your Heart', to be released 28th August 2020.In this entertaining interview, Devon & Duane talk about the new album, their influences, lockdown live stream, guitars, the importance of not sitting on your art, and how AAA analog recording is the order of the day.The new album is available to pre-order from https://theallmanbettsband.lnk.to/BlessYourHeart and https://amzn.to/2NKWYz5When The Allman Betts Band released Down to the River in June of 2019, the debut album represented not only the first time the group had recorded together but, in fact, the first time the seven-piece ensemble had ever played together. If Down to the River was the sound of the band’s combustible sparks igniting, then Bless Your Heart is their bonfire, built for the summer of 2020 and beyond; a double-album follow-up fuelled by road-forged camaraderie and telepathic musical intensity, vibrantly reflecting the individual and collective experiences of these seven, all drawing inspiration from the band’s symbolic hometown – a place Devon Allman calls “The United States of Americana.”Support the show (http://paypal.me/mnprmagazine)
I’ve had the pleasure of talking with Devon Allman and Duane Betts both individually and together both on the phone and in person. Each interaction has been totally cool, as both dudes are extremely cool and so knowledgeable and creative. It’s a testament not only to their lineage but likely more importantly insight into their love of their craft and this project that while still exciting isn’t as fresh as it once was. On August 28th the Allman Betts Band will release Bless Your Heart only a year since their debut Down to the River. Bless Your Heart though their sophomore album is hardly sophomoric. It is filled with a series of great tunes, performances and great vibes. What more can you ask from this seven piece outfit that’s fronted by two solid individuals. On this episode, RJ talks with Devon Allman and Duane Betts of the Allman Betts Band about family history, musical chemistry, and their new record "Bless Your Heart" which comes out on August 28th. After meeting as teenagers on the Allman Brothers Band anniversary tour in 1989, Devon and Duane went on to separately play in a range of bands spanning blues, roots, metal, and folk for almost 20 years. They reunited in 2017 and toured on a shared bill, which quickly evolved into writing songs together and the birth of a new group, the Allman Betts Band. Their sound, both live and on record, pays homage to Devon and Duane's musical roots while adding their own distinct style to the family tree. After the interview you'll hear Devon and Duane perform Shinin, Norwegian Wood, and Magnolia Road. Escuchar audio

Duane Betts Interview: Getting sober, growing up with the top musicians in rock and roll, lessons he learned from his dad Dickey Betts… his vintage guitars, gratitude, catching shiners & mullett, authenticity, being more settled and getting into a good routine At 15, Duane was sitting in regularly with The Allman Brothers Band. He then spent a good amount of time cutting his teeth in a variety of bands in LA... eventually playing alongside his father, Dickey Betts, in the band Great Southern, for 10 years. In 2018, he released his first solo record, and shortly after this, Duane & Devon Allman, started The Allman Betts Band. Their debut album, Down to the River, was released in 2019 and the band toured the world promoting the record. Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Cristina Vane is taking the town by storm with her unique blend of blues and folk. Originally from Europe, she draws from such a great host of influences that it is impossible to compare her music to any one artist. That being said, she draws decisively from country blues, delta blues, and American folk music, creating her own flavor of the blues. Whether on the Venice boardwalk busking by the beach or on a stage in Mississippi, her signature resonator bottleneck playing and powerful vocals are unmistakable and unforgettable. The promising artist has made waves on her own thus far, opening for folks like Bob Weir, Wynonna Judd, Duane Betts, and Duke Robillard, being written up in local newspapers, and playing for organizations like Jam in the Van and Sofar Sounds- most recently playing notable venues like McCabes Guitar Shop and the Fillmore, San Francisco.http://www.cristinavane.com/https://www.facebook.com/cristinavanemusic/https://www.hambonerelay.com/https://www.hambonerelay.com/podcasthttps://hambonerelay.bandcamp.com/

Living in the shadow of a family member is nothing anyone truly wants to deal with. Particularly, when your parent, is a musician in a world famous band who is adored by millions of people. Following in their footsteps, can be, and likely is a daunting task, but being able to carve out a niche for yourself with the rich history of a last name, can and is brave and noble. Such is the case for Devon Allman who has trudged through the music industry for some twenty years, and Duane Betts who has done the same, for quite some time. Needless to say, both thrive on their father’s legacies and talent but more to the point have become great musicians in their own right. We have spoken to both individually, but recently got the chance to catch up with them both on tour as part of the Devon Allman Project. Bands To Know
When we caught up with Devon Allman a few months back, he was all jazzed about his new project, and getting to share the stage with Duane Betts in the Devon Allman Project. We’ve been playing tag with Duane on Instagram ever since, and we finally had the chance to sit down and chat. Dude is busy with gigs on both American coasts. For those who don’t know, Duane is quite an accomplished musician, having played and sat in with countless bands, and his own outfit The Pistoleers. He brings an eclectic rock n’ roll sound that spans the genres, but there is absolutely no mistaking his guitar playing and now his singing. We spoke to Duane about carrying on his dad Dickie’s legacy, making music with Devon Allman, and of course his own projects. I remember watching the tribute to Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks and Col. Bruce Hampton put on at the Peach Festival last summer, thinking that this one event didn’t do those three gentlemen especially Gregg and all he had done for us enough justice. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the jam was magnificent, but I wanted more. We all did. So it was so great to hear that Gregg’s son, Devon was organizing his own sort of tribute, as part of his new project with Duane Betts (yes, Duane, son of Dickie). I was psyched to get on the phone with Devon as soon as I heard the news, and luckily was able to track him down on Instagram. Since he is so prolific on social media our conversation started I asked how important the medium was for him. Devon is no doubt doing his dad proud and we are excited to hear all about the December 8th gig, and how the entire Devon Allman Project comes together, and indeed the world tour. Welcome AaA Fans to yet another episode of your Amps and Axes Podcast. In this installment, Mick and Jeff discuss a new guitar into which your phone attaches.... Wait, What? Then they bring in their guest of the week. Son of a rock legend, he has been playing since his young teens and been part of a couple interesting bands, not the least of which is his dad's, Great Southern. Currently out with the band Dawes, please welcome Mr Duane Betts. Enjoy!
Lappy talks with Duane Betts, son of legendary guitarist from the Allman Brothers and co-founding member Dickey Betts. He is in his father's band Great Southern playing lead guitar. Check out Dickey Betts and Great Southern Saturday, March 8th at the Ridgefield Playhouse
