How to Handle a Heavy Load - #9766

A Word With You

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 17, 2024

Our family was driving down the Interstate and I saw this familiar bumper sticker. I said, "Oh, that's nice." And then I began to pass the car. I could tell from behind, that it was obviously a mother and a child in the front seat. But the significance of the message on the bumper didn't hit me until I pulled alongside. I glanced over and it was obvious that the child had an evident disability, and that the mother had a very heavy burden. And I thought, "Boy, how does she cope with that responsibility?" And then I remembered her bumper sticker and I had my answer. It just might be an answer for you too. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "How to Handle a Heavy Load." Our word for today from the Word of God is going to come from Deuteronomy 33:25, and it relates very directly to that bumper sticker, which we'll get to in a minute. The words were familiar, but it may be a reminder that you need to hear to make it through this very heavy load you've got. The words on the bumper sticker - you've probably seen it - simply said, "One day at a time." Now, Jesus told us how to bear the cross of following Him. He said in Luke 9:23, "If anyone wants to come after Me, let him take up his cross..." You remember the next word? "...daily and follow Me." Now Deuteronomy 33:25 has this simple, profound, and enlightening statement, "Your strength will equal your years." It does not say that. It says, "Your strength will equal your days." God distributes strength to us in 24-hour allotments. You have no strength for tomorrow-today, or certainly for next week or next month or next year. So, you're facing what appears to be, let's say, a mountain right now and you're saying, "I don't know how I'll get all this done!" Or, "I don't know how I'll make it through this crisis? I don't know how I'll cope." And the Lord says to you, "One day at a time. You don't have to take the mountain all at once. Don't try to handle that entire load at one time. Take it as I give it to you in 24-hour chunks." My wife was very ill with hepatitis. She was in bed for nine months and it was like I lost my right arm - my partner, my strength, my great supporter. And I was Mr. Mom for our three kids as well as running a ministry. It had been about five weeks of trying to be Mom on top of everything else, and I remember my pastor's wife caught me at church and said, "How are you doing five weeks without your wife?" I said, "I didn't do five weeks, I did 35 days. That's the only way I knew to do it." You know, you'll never have a day where you won't have enough strength. God promised that. You have His word on it. If the Lord sends you a 20-pound day, you'll get 20 pounds of strength. He sends you a 100-pound day, you'll get 100 pounds of strength - 100 pounds of His supernatural resources. But don't try to borrow tomorrow's trouble. You don't have the strength yet. You go thinking about that and worrying about that, and you'll run ahead of your supply lines. You'll have everything you need that day. So live as God designed you to live. Cope as He's equipped you to cope - in 24-hour slices of life. If you do it one day at a time, you'll make it through this because God's mercies are new every morning.

As a seasoned music bass guitar player with almost 40 years of experience and the host of the Music Matters Podcast, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Rockie Lynne, a talented musician who has overcome adversity to find success in the music industry. In this podcast episode, we'll delve into Lynne's inspiring journey, his new Amazon documentary and latest album, as well as his charitable work supporting the families of fallen service members. Early Life and Music Career Lynne's passion for music began at a young age. After being found in a garbage dumpster and growing up in an orphanage, he was inspired to become a musician when a man played guitar for him at the age of four. Lynne started playing in bands in high school, and later joined the army to attend the Musicians Institute in California. Despite feeling overwhelmed by the talent in the barracks, Lynne persevered and eventually moved to Minnesota, where he started over and sold 150,000 CDs from his car trunk before getting a record deal. He played 321 nights in a big eight by 20 trailer, becoming a draw before meeting with industry executives. Songwriting, Love, and Forgiveness Lynne's approach to songwriting is unique, comparing it to plumbing or throwing darts. His new album features his classic, full-rich voice and great songs. One of the standout tracks is "Heavy Load," which was inspired by a mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. The song grapples with the concept of love in the face of unimaginable evil. Finding His Biological Father and the Importance of Male Role Models Lynne discovered his biological father through a DNA test and was able to meet him before his death. This experience had a profound impact on Lynne's sense of belonging and purpose. He also emphasizes the importance of male role models in childhood, citing personal experiences and the impact it had on his life. Charity Work for Troops Lynne founded Tribute to the Troops, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps families of fallen service members. The organization has raised over $1 million and sent 123 children to college whose parents died in service. Lynne's commitment to supporting troops and their families is unwavering, and he encourages others to get involved and donate to this important cause. New Amazon Documentary and Album Lynne's new Amazon documentary and album offer a glimpse into his life and music career. The documentary, which is available on Amazon Prime and PBS stations nationwide, showcases Lynne's journey as a singer-songwriter and the importance of showcasing artists' work. His latest album features his signature voice and songwriting style, with themes of love, forgiveness, and moving on from tragedy. Conclusion Rockie Lynne's story is one of resilience, perseverance, and giving back. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout his life, he has remained committed to his passion for music and his desire to help others. His new Amazon documentary and album offer a chance to learn more about this inspiring artist and his incredible journey. As we yacked about last episode, 1984 was an amazing year for Metaldom. A major part of that awesomeness was the incredible amount of new records that filled the new release racks. So with these albums celebrating their 40th anniversary, we decided to give some of them the deep dive treatment. KISS' "Animalize" is an album near and dear to our Metal Hearts, for different reasons. So we go over the whys and wherefores, the tracklist, the artwork, the whole She-Bang. When our sons were playing football, the varsity guys let them know an important factor in impressing the coach. He'll be looking for you in the weight room, not just at practice. Coaches know serious athletes serve their time in the weight room, concentrating on becoming stronger. They're not there because it's fun, it's not. But because it's important to winning the battle. One measure of your growing strength is what the lifters call your bench press. That's not lifting a bench of course, but it's how much you can lift over your head as you lie on a weight bench. I've worked with a lot of football players and weight lifters, but I've seldom met one who's content to keep that amount that they can lift where it is. No, they're always adding a little more weight to that bar. So, if your bench press is 170 pounds, you want to go to 180, 190. If you've been lifting 200, you want to work to get it to 210, 220. You know, you're always pressing more. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Why You Have a Heavy Load." Now, it's a principle of physical strength - and it's a principle in God's gym as well. If you want to get stronger, you constantly have to be lifting something heavier than you've lifted before. God, of course, isn't just building biceps and triceps, he's building the one kind of strength in us that opens up all He has for us. He is building faith muscles - the ability to trust Him more than you've ever trusted Him. Because "without faith it is impossible to please Him" (Hebrews 11:6). Now, if you're just proceeding on the basis of what you can see, what you can figure out, what you can pull off, then God isn't very happy with you. God's will requires moving by faith, which is by God's definition, "being certain of what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1). So how does God help you build more faith muscles so you can win greater victories than ever before? Well, by giving you something to lift that is heavier than you've had to lift before. Since God continually uses Abraham as an example of a life of faith, let's check out how Abraham performed in God's gym. In Romans 4, beginning with verse 19, our word for today from the Word of God, we see how he handled this very heavy situation. The promise of God that He would defy all reproductive biology and give them a son through their aging bodies and then the long wait that ensued between the promise and the fulfillment. The Bible says, "Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead - since he was about 100 years old and that Sarah's womb was also dead." Now notice, faith does not deny that there are daunting realities in the situation. Maybe even the apparent impossibility of an answer. But it says, "Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded God had the power to do what He had promised." So, Abraham lifts by faith what he had never lifted before and he is "strengthened in his faith." That's how it works. Greater weight to develop greater faith to experience greater things. You may have been wondering why God's allowed such a heavy burden into your life right now. It may very well be, not that He's unhappy with you, but that He loves you enough to help you become stronger than you've ever been before. He's building your faith muscles. If He only trusted you with what you've lifted before, you'd only have as much faith as you've had before. And He's growing you for greater things, for future battles, for more miraculous victories. But you have to serve your time in the weight room - not because it's fun, but because it's the only way to get strong enough to play spiritual varsity. God's your spotter. He will not allow you to have more weight than you can handle right now. He's promised that. But He will give you something heavier than you lifted before, so you can become more powerful in Him than you've ever been before.

Berlin's Schwerbelastungskörper is a massive concrete structure that, today, is hidden in plain sight between a railroad and an apartment building. It's one of just a dozen remaining pieces of Nazi Architecture in Berlin. And it's not much to look at. It was built in 1941 as a test structure for a triumphal arch that Hitler wanted to build in that spot. The Schwerbelastungskörper (“heavy load-bearing body”) is the arch's test structure. It weighs about 12,650 metric tonnes, or about 28 million pounds, and it's the equivalent weight of one of the four massive legs of the never-built arch. This plan was abandoned as World War 2 accelerated. And the structure remained, slowly sinking into Berlin's marshy soil, providing proof of the arch's impossibility. In this episode, HBM host Jeff Emtman visits the Schwerbelastungskorper, records some impulse responses in the structure's single room and reflects on his discomfort in finding beauty in another Nazi structure nearby, Tempelhof Airport (now a public park and refugee camp). Also mentioned on this episode: The Berlin Airlift, Austrian Tyrol, The Little Mermaid (1989), and Der Herr Der Ringe (Lord of the Rings movies dubbed in German). Episode 13 features Warren Haynes, who has contributed to some of the most incredible music ever made. His ever inventive and unique touch has been felt with bands like The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, and of course the music he's created with Gov't Mule. I invited him on the show to discuss their new album Heavy Load Blues, which is more of a traditional blues album and features a number of interesting and magical elements. They recorded closer to Warrens home which allowed for him to bring out a number of period correct instruments and amps for each song that they covered. They recorded the album live, straight to tape, and all in one room to capture the magic that happens while playing with and along side your band mates. They also tried to get the songs nailed in as few takes as possible and that live spirit shines through on each of the tracks. They will be kicking off spring, April 6th, 2022 to be precise, with a headlining tour across the United States and hopefully releasing the second Mule album that they recorded simultaneously as Heavy Load Blues.
