The five men wrongly accused and convicted in the 1989 Central Park assault case, now known as the “Exonerated 5,” have filed a defamation lawsuit against former President Donald Trump. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Pennsylvania on Monday, following Trump's comments during a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10. During the debate, Trump falsely asserted that the men were responsible for the crime and inaccurately claimed that a victim had died. Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, and Yusef Salaam allege that Trump defamed them, cast them in a false light, and caused emotional distress. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Turning Point USA founder and conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk joins “Fearless” to discuss his recent comments that sparked controversy across the media. Kirk recently ran afoul of self-appointed gatekeeper of black Americans Roland Martin over a tweet critical of Central Park 5 “exoneree” Yusef Salaam. Still, it was Charlie's comments on Dr. Martin Luther King that have made him the target of both liberal and conservative pundits. Jason says that Kirk's comments should be the starting point for an honest conversation about MLK and the negative effects of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. “If the Civil Rights Act is Dr. King's achievement and Thomas Jefferson's achievement is the Constitution … look at the fruit that [the Constitution] produced. It was the justification for ending slavery, Jim Crow laws, and segregation. ... If the Civil Rights Act produced same-sex marriage, I got some questions about the Civil Rights Act.” King Randall, the founder of the Life Preparatory School for Boys, joins Jason to discuss the recent social media storm that rained down on him after an attempt to teach the boys proper table etiquette was framed by critics as teaching the kids “how to be white.” If you'd like to support King Randall and his Life Prepatory School for Boys, please visit them online at https://thexforboys.org/. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In 11/11/23. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS Less than a full decade from the death of Freddie Gray while in custody of Baltimore Police Department officials, former prosecuting attorney Marilyn Mosby was convicted for perjury this week. Jurors concluded the evidence showed that Mosby lied while applying for funds related to Covid-19. During the same week as Mosby's conviction, New York City Mayor Eric Adams had his phone seized by FBI agents. It's reported that Adams is suspected of knowingly receiving campaign funds from "Turkish nationals." Also in NYC, former convicted rapist Yusef Salaam rebounded from his racist incarceration in the Central Park 5 rape case to win a seat on the City Council. Since former President Donald J. Trump was heated about NYC's 2014 decision to compensate Salaam and his fellow wrongfully convicted pals, he must be boiling over with rage now - as his own legal dramas continue. #AlbinoAffairs # #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

The Goth Ninjas are back! This week's Republican debate. Everyone hates Vivek. Nikki Haley might be the flavor of the month. DeSantis's lifts are so obvious. Election Day 2023: Republicans, pollsters, and pundits keeps whizzing on the electric fence. Nate Cohn and Jonathan Chait repeating the same doomcasting trend. Gutfeld, JD Vance, Mike Huckabee, and other Republicans can't let go of abortion as an issue, and we're fine with that. One possible reason why Republican turnout was so low. AP correspondent Jennifer King reports on Election 2023-New York-Central Park Five candidate elected
This story begins with a 1989 rape in Central Park, involves a New York real estate tycoon who threw gas on a fire, and evolves into a remarkable and inspiring story of citizenship. Serge and Clarke discuss the life (at least so far) of Yusef Salaam. This episode is a short listen about a modern mentor.
Yusef Salaam was just 15 years old in 1989 when he, along with four other Black and Latino teenagers, were wrongly accused of the brutal rape and assault of a 28-year-old white woman who was jogging in Central Park. Salaam was convicted at 16 and was incarcerated for seven years. The group, known as the Central Park Five, maintained their innocence and they were exonerated in 2002 only after a convicted murderer and serial rapist confessed to the crimes. Salaam, who has since become known as one of the Exonerated Central Park Five, has turned his pain into purpose as an activist, criminal justice reform advocate and motivational speaker. He is the author of “Better, Not Bitter: Living on Purpose in the Pursuit of Racial Justice” and his story has been told in numerous films and books. Salaam, who is now 49, launched a political campaign earlier this year and recently won the Democratic primary for a New York City Council seat in Harlem. He joins WITHpod to discuss his trajectory, being “run over by the spike wheels of justice,” and why he got involved in politics.

Joy Reid leads this two-hour edition of The ReidOut on the eve of the Fourth of July, during a time in America when a lot of people are seeing their freedoms being taken away. To start, we examine the Supreme Court 'religious freedom' ruling being based on a hypothetical dispute, which is being questioned on its legality by critics. Then our experts discuss how, one year after Roe v. Wade's reversal, the anti-abortion front is intensifying its war on women's bodies nationwide. Plus, we bring you reporting from The Washington Post on Trump's alleged pressure campaign toward then-Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, as Jack Smith's election interference probe continues. Finally, member of the Central Park Exonerated 5 and winner of the Democratic primary for his New York City Council race, Yusef Salaam, discusses representing “that hope we all need,” and much more in this special episode of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
In 1989, Yusef Salaam was one of five teenagers arrested and wrongly imprisoned after the brutal rape of a jogger in New York's Central Park. They were exonerated in 2002 when DNA evidence linked another person to the crime. Now, some three decades later, Salaam has declared victory in a race for a New York City Council seat. Salaam joined Geoff Bennett to discuss the win. PBS NewsHour is supported by - https://www.pbs.org/newshour/about/funders
Dr. Yusef Salaam is on his way to a seat on Harlem's City Council. A stark turnabout for one of the famous Exonerated Central Park 5. They lost their freedom, their dignity, and their lives but they persevered and now they're truly free. Salaam and Raymond Santana talked to me just before the release of the film When They See Us, a film by Ava Duvernay that told their story. We talk about everything in this amazing interview. Primary Day in New York City had two big surprises. Yusef Salaam of the “Exonerated Five” is poised to win a City Council primary in Harlem and longtime Brooklyn City Councilman Charles Barron is badly trailing challenger Chris Banks. Brigid Bergin, the senior politics reporter at WNYC, and Emily Ngo, a political reporter for NY1, joined Errol Louis to discuss the primaries and talk about which races they found the most interesting. They also looked at the election's low turnout rate and discussed what could get more voters to the polls. It's Hump Day! Emma hosts Mike German, fellow at The Brennan Center for Justice, to discuss a recent interview he did with Mireya Navarro, the editor-in-chief of Brennan en Espanol, entitled "Why White Supremacist Groups Attract Latinos to Their Ranks." Then Emma is joined by Matt Ford, staff writer at The New Republic, to discuss his recent piece entitled "Clarence Thomas Wants to Demolish Indian Law." First Emma runs through the day's headlines, including Trump claiming “ego” instead of “insanity,” updates on Prigozhin's mutiny, more wildfire disasters, trans rights, and Yusef Salaam's entrance into the New York City Council, also diving into Laura Ingraham's ridiculous coverage on what's fringe and what's not. Michael German then joins, diving right into his history as an FBI agent infiltrating White supremacist groups, exploring how these groups function and extend their reach beyond other explicitly white folks, provided they align with their ethnonationalist beliefs. After tackling the particular role of Hispanic ethnicity within white supremacist communities, German wraps up the interview by assessing the greater attempts by these groups to polish their public appearance both to draw in members and avoid the typical “domestic terrorist” image. Matt Ford then walks through the Supreme Court's recent Moore v. Harper decision rejecting the fringe “Independent State Legislature” theory, and why, despite it not being the perfect outcome, we should be thankful it wasn't worse. He and Emma then tackle Gorsuch's staunch defense of native sovereignty, exploring where he grounds his stance, why his conservative colleagues don't align with him, and how the votes might fall in upcoming cases on native sovereignty. After assessing the Supreme Court's impending affirmative action cases and why an overturn is all but expected, Ford dives into the constitutional attack on marriage equality, and wraps up with an exploration of the absurd arguments (that might work) about the unconstitutionality of a wealth tax. And in the Fun Half: Emma talks with Jason from Ft. Worth on the right's bad-faith manipulation of academic studies – as shown by Tim Pool – before she and the crew dive into her discussion with Tim on his undermining of a 10-year-old rape victim's story, and talk with Matt from Oregon on the horrific real-world implications of fascist reproductive viewpoints. They also explore Mikhaila Peterson's grappling with her father's violent misogyny, Greg Gutfeld's undermining of his own transphobic stances, and Trump's “bravado” defense, plus, your calls and IMs! Three Democratic candidates for the 9th City Council District in Manhattan squared off in a primary debate, hosted by Errol Louis on Spectrum News/NY1. The district includes much of Harlem, and the seat is currently held by Kristin Richardson Jordan, who announced last month that she would not be running for re-election. While her name will still appear on the ballot, there are three candidates vying for the position: Yusef Salaam, Inez Dickens and Al Taylor. When it came to housing, the candidates discussed how they want to utilize a controversial site on 145th Street in Harlem. They also talked about the legal cannabis market, the resignation of NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell and migrants arriving in the city and public safety in Harlem. Pod Save America's Dan Pfeiffer explains what Dems can do to replicate their stunning win in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Rep. Robert Garcia talks about wading through the rough waters of today's Congress. Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut with what was an historic day in lower Manhattan, as America learned the full extent of the allegations against the former president--the first American president to be charged with a crime. Donald Trump was uncharateristically grim and silent while entering the courtroom, ignoring questions from reporters before pleading not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. After the twice-impeached former president's arraignment, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg addressed reporters about the importance of pursuing the case against Donald Trump. After calling Trump's indictment "Karma," Dr. Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Central Park Five, joins Joy on turning the ad that Donald Trump created calling for his death and that of the others also erroneously accused, into a campaign ad for his current run for New York City Council. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
