What is the greatest year in music history?  Christopher and Tom weigh in and, not surprisingly, their answers are very different.  It prompts a rather lively and contentious discussion.           Plus we pay tribute to the many artists we lost in 2022. But don't expect this to be a mournful show.  Think of it more as a celebration of these artists.   Included this week: Olivia Newton-John talks about her career Meatloaf on how “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” could appeal to people of any era Ronnie Hawkins on his love of Canadian music, and other sordid tales Jerry Lee Lewis in one of the most weirdly chilling clips in our collection Dan McCafferty explains how Nazareth got their name Plus a clip from the most listened to episode in FLW history And on When Rock Stars Attack – Jann Arden takes hilarious aim at an American singer. We finish the show with another edition of the epic smackdown that is “TJ vs The VJ” as Tom & Christopher try to stump each in a test of musical knowledge.   Famous Lost Words is heard in 31 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, Newstalk 1290 London, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are running an encore episode in tribute, an episode we recorded almost a year ago. We talk to Amanda Aday, daughter of Marvin Lee Aday aka Meat Loaf. We are running this interview a second time as a tribute to Meat Loaf and all his fans but specifically to Amanda, who speaks so glowingly about her father. There is humor, love, affection and ultimately a real familial and genuine bond that Amanda shares with us that we think you might want to hear at this time. Losing a parent is perhaps one of the most difficult things in life but to do it in public is something altogether different and unique. Sometimes it's a comfort to know that others care and sometimes, it's a heavy burden to be reminded of it constantly. We just wanted to make sure that Amanda (and her family) know how much her father meant to his fans and also to let her know we were thinking about her. Thankfully, Amanda shared a lot about her father in this episode that might give some great insight to who he was behind the ‘rock star.' There are some great, fun stories about touring the world as a family, how her father taught his kids sports and his need to be concerned dad rather than an absent one. We also hear about her father's youth growing up in Dallas, his early years in Detroit in early groups Popcorn Blizzard as well as the Motown flavored Stoney and Meatloaf, how he stumbled into a production of Hair, his Joseph Papp Public Theater performance before his singing career took off, his work in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, his partnership and collaboration with Jim Steinman, his mega hits Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II, touring the world (and elsewhere), his acting roles in films likeRoadie and Fight Club and about a million other things. This is our encore episode of our conversation with Amanda Aday and it is a tribute to her father, the one and only Meat Loaf. As we like to say on the podcast, “Everyone has a story.” Today, we hear Amanda's story about her father as well as the entertainer. It's funny, enlightening, fascinating and honest. Thank you Amanda. We are thinking about you.

There’s nothing like a good story. A narrative that tells a tale is one of the most effective ways to relate an event, both fact or fiction and also a straightforward way to evoke an underlying message. We have grown up believing that the best stories are found in books. The stories that songs tell can be just as powerful and moving as any book or movie. Andrew Marvell was an English Restoration poet who lived and wrote during his nation's civil wars, and in its transition from monarchy to the beginnings of republicanism. He was a well-traveled, well-spoken, hard-partying bachelor. In his masterwork “To His Coy Mistress” he paints a vivid picture of a familiar and amorous scenario most men will be familiar with. But he presents his own unique spin on it, in a moving and timeless encouragement to seize the day.
