Longtime beauty executive Lori Singer has been instrumental in some of the biggest fragrance license deals of the past 20 years. Singer spent more than a decade at Coty, where she worked on bestselling fragrances by Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Balenciaga and Nautica. She also tripled global net revenues for Marc Jacobs with its iconic Daisy franchise launched in 2007. Singer got her start at Revlon, and her CV also includes Calvin Klein Cosmetics, Unilever and Benetton Group.  “I've spent my entire career in beauty. I'm sort of a beauty lifer,” she told Glossy. “I fell in love on day one at Revlon, my first job, and I really have never looked back.”  Singer joined Parlux in 2019 to grow its license business and immediately set her sights on Billie Eilish.  “Other than music, fragrance and scent are everything to her. So, upon meeting her and hearing about her deep knowledge [of fragrance, we knew it was a fit for Parlux],” Singer told Glossy. “She knows ingredients and she knows about olfactory territory. She has had a natural nose for scents." By 2021, her first scent, Eilish, was released, which she followed up with Eilish No. 2 the next year and Eilish No. 3 in 2023.  Fast forward to last week, and Parlux released Eilish's fourth fragrance, called Your Turn. The new scent is priced at $90 for 100 milliliters and available DTC — it will launch in Ulta Beauty doors later this spring. Your Turn is gender-neutral and described as “warm, woody and fresh” with notes of peach, ginger and sandalwood.  Frank Voelkl, principal perfumer at fragrance house Firmenich, was the “nose.” One of the most famous perfumers working today, he has created Glossier's You franchise, Phlur's Mood Ring and Father Figure, and Le Labo's cult Santal 33, among others.  Parlux is a global licensee for celebrities, fashion houses and lifestyle brands. The company launched in 1984 and is privately held. Its licenses include Kenneth Cole, Vince Camuto, Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden and Jason Wu, among others. Most recently, Parlux entered into a partnership with basketball player LeBron James to create The Shop, a line of grooming products distributed through Walmart. Then, in late 2024, the company launched its first fragrance with influencer-turned-designer Danielle Bernstein, the creator behind WeWoreWhat, called WeWoreWhat 001.  Later this year, the company will celebrate another milestone: Paris Hilton's 30th fragrance over 20 years. Called Iconic, the scent will launch this spring.  Singer joined the Glossy Beauty Podcast to discuss the secret sauce behind Parlux's celeb fragrances, the evolving fragrance consumer and 2025 industry predictions.

Everybody cut (everybody cut) in the 1984 version of Footloose. The story takes us to a repressed middle-American town where dancing is outlawed until Kevin Bacon rages against that particular machine. He's the city slicker with fast feet who pushes back on John Lithgow's religious father figureness. They both do very good work here and so does the rebellious Lori Singer, but Chris(topher) Penn steals the entire film, especially when the brawny farmer learns the joy of dancing. Herbert Ross' movie also has an excellent soundtrack to help him balance the light side with the serious side. And since it's Ross, Footloose is even a musical of sorts. So don't angry dance at your workplace. Instead put our 595th episode into your '80s-era headphones and release the iron grip you have on your small town so the kids can just enjoy the prom. Well, Actually: the mill is out of Bomont's jurisdiction because it's across COUNTY lines, not state lines. Also, the kids being terrorized by the brick through the window are Ren's cousins, not his nieces. Sparkplug Coffee continues to sponsor Have You Ever Seen. It's the wildly successful 1984 film, "Footloose", starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Chris Penn, and Dianne Weist. Zack's wife, Audrey Bennett, joins him for this look back at a film that, as popular as it was, perhaps didn't match the popularity of its own soundtrack. --- Do you think you're being abused? Forty years ago amidst a crop of various pop music-driven movies (Flashdance, Breakin), this Herbert Ross-directed teen musical drama hit the world by storm and made a star of its lead performer, the legendary Kevin Bacon.  Beyond that, it also had a one of the most memorable soundtracks of the decades featuring several catchy pop gems including the EXTREMELY popular title track from Kenny Loggins.  It's generally a simple story of the new kid (Bacon) from the big city who has just moved to a smalltown with his single mother....and discovers to his dismay, that his favorite activity of dancing is NOT allowed in this town for pretty controversial reasons.  Amidst a very strong cast including John Lithgow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dianne Weist, Lori Singer, and the late great Chris Penn.....we watch as he gradually changes things in this town for the better....with the help of several new friends no less.  And of course, there's LOTS of dancing.....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

We've always loved Julian Sands, and were saddened to hear of his disappearance and the revelation of his passing in 2023. To celebrate his life and career, we discuss a personal favorite, along with a pair of campier entries that, if nothing else, are fun to laugh about. What happens when a warlock escapes the clutches of death, travels through a portal three centuries into the future, to locate three parts of The Grand Grimoire to undo creation? Well, you'd better believe that a determined witch-hunter follows to try to stop him! Julian Sands is Warlock (1989)!Not into warlocks and all that stuff? Well, how about Julian Sands as an infuriatingly meek surgeon who opportunistically uses a hit-and-run accident to imprison, and physically alter,  the woman of his dreams? Probably not a particularly healthy thing to do. It's a story of obsession and possession, with some questionable acting. But hey, if Boxing Helena (1993) is a match for your fetish, you do you.And then from there, if you thought that the acting in Boxing Helena was bad, get ready for some of the most remarkably poor acting you have ever seen from a complete cast. Thankfully, Julian Sands returns as the warlock, the one marginal bright spot. Though it probably would have helped if these actors had some decent dialogue to work with. However, as it stands, Warlock: The Armageddon (1993) is probably best used as a device to torture your enemies.

New York-based film writer Jason Miller joins to discuss the strange, beautiful cinematic worlds of the unsung Alan Rudolph and his 1992 film 'Equinox' starring Matthew Modine as identical twin brothers separated at birth. We begin with a discussion of Rudolph's career, beginning as an assistant director to the great Robert Altman before branching out and producing some of the most compellingly idiosyncratic films of the 1980s (as well as his feature 'Remember My Name' from 1978, arguably his greatest work).  Then we turn our sights to 'Equinox' and talk about the film's distinctive rhythms and characters as well as the ways Rudolph imbues his fantasy world with a potent naturalism and sense of place. Finally, we discuss the injustice of Rudolph's relative obscurity within cinephile circles, and why the filmmaker's entire body of work is due for a necessary and urgent reappraisal. We're committed to getting 'Equinox' in front of as many eyes as possible! Email us at hitfactorypod@gmail.com for more info. Follow Jason on Twitter and check out links to his work here. Ken Turner has fathered more than 40 children, all of them conceived after his condoms suspiciously broke. Did Julian Sands use his devil powers to coif the perfect hair? Was the aging makeup over-the-top bad or was that how the 1980s saw women over 40? And how long exactly is the amount of time to safely carry around a set of eyeballs? The answers to these questions and many more are most likely buried deep within the lining in Richard E. You ever been sitting at home and wonder to yourself; I wonder if it's possible to combine the horrible esthetic and bigotry of the 80's with really shitty dance? Nope, and neither should anyone else. Enter stage left, Ren, who moves to the small town of Bomont with his ma to live with his uncle and aunt because shit must have been horrible in Chicago. Ren is a hip city kid who likes to dance but dancing is banned in Bomont so Ren finds himself on a mission to change the minds of the town and bang the Reverend's daughter. Will the Reverend see the error of his ways? Will the kids dance? Will Ren get a haircut? Are you still reading this? Starring Kevin Bacon, John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, and Lori Singer, Footloose laid a cultural footprint and became a classic. But, does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent discuss homoerotic subtext and not sticking your dick in crazy as we try to decide if this is more footloose or footnoose.

Our eighth consecutive trek through the Forbidden Zone finds us excavating, of all places, an overgrown San Francisco which is, you guessed it!, infested with murderous primates. (You'd think we'd have learned our lesson by now but...alas...) Listen to our introduction as we introduce a new recurrent segment of the show: the Blue Plate Special. In this initial offering, we load up on a trio of neo-noirs (Body Heat, Trouble in Mind, and Reminiscence) that has us pondering both past modes of the form and how it might exactly realize itself in the years to come. Upon finally arriving to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, yet another exploration of chimpanzee-on-human violence is had, this time in relation to how this new age of CGI at once adds to and subtracts from the potential of the series that refuses to go gentle into that good night. Tread Perilously finally spotlights an episode of "Supergirl" as a month of Kryptonian-focused shows begins. This time, Kara Danvers sort of stars in an episode called "The Bodyguard." When a would-be assassin threatens Andrea Rojas's life on the eve of the Obsidian North Platinum launch, Lex Luthor assigns Supergirl to be her personal bodyguard. Meanwhile, a newly unemployed Alex joins J'onn in the search for the assassin while Brainy -- now the sole Superfriend inside the DEO -- evades their request for assistance as he continues his plan to expose Lex. Will the assassin kill Andrea Rojas? Or will a successful save by Supergirl aid Lex's overall scheme? Erik and Justin recall a time when Supergirl was a constant part of Tread Perilously chatter. Justin immediately finds new love interest William Dey a "3D printed" facsimile of a real one. The current state of the Arrowverse gets reviewed. Justin's wife provides an incredible comic book trope which applies quite well to shows like Supergirl and The Flash. Virtual Reality joins the list of well-known markers indicating a poor quality project. A discussion of the "Spock-Artax" Empathy Test leads to a surprising number of "You Might Be A Synthetic" jokes. The pair try to figure out why Lori Singer never had her moment and Supercorp becomes a key topic once again.

I think people know of it, but are still questioning whether or not to watch it. This movie has a great director, great actors, and a great premise. In 17th-century New England, witch hunter Giles Redferne (Richard E. Grant) captures an evil warlock (Julian Sands), but the conjurer eludes death with supernatural help. Flung into the future, the warlock winds up in the 1980s and plans to bring about the end of the world. Redferne follows the enchanter into the modern era and continues his mission, but runs into trouble in such unfamiliar surroundings. With the help of a young woman (Lori Singer), can Redferne finally defeat the warlock?Directed by Steve Miner. He did Friday the 13th Part 2, Part 3, House, Forever Young, My Father The Hero, Halloween H20, and Lake Placid. He looked at the script and recognized the main characters being the warlock and the witch hunter were fresh off the boat from England in colonial America, so he had the good sense to get some amazing British actors.Julian Sands sat on the script for a while assuming it was run of the mill slasher material, and then he understood there was a dark sense of humor running through the tone of the story.Richard Grant supposedly comes in for the Warlock part and then gets the chance to play the hero named Giles Redferne.Highlights from our first impressions include: “Julian Sands steals the show.” “Not as good as I remember.”“This movie is alive. A time to mourn... and there is a time to dance.” - Ren McCormack The 1984 musical drama, “Footloose,” makes viewers laugh at its afterschool special-caliber plot…and weep about the fact Kenny Loggins was nominated for both an Oscar and a Grammy for the title song. It makes us mourn the 110 minutes we wasted watching it…and it makes us want to dance directly into an oncoming train. Applewood-smoked Kevin Bacon plays Ren McCormack, a dance-crazed gymnast who's forced to move from Chicago to a small religious town where dancing is illegal after his father abandons his family. John Lithgow plays Reverend Shaw Moore, a silver-tongued preacher who rules his town by issuing fiery pronouncements from the pulpit. After his dunce son died while driving drunk and acting like a moron, he decided to ban everyone from dancing. He also viciously slaps his daughter at one point. Lori Singer plays Ariel Moore, a rebellious preacher’s daughter whose entire identity revolves around the death of her brother and punishing her father. Her favorite pastime is putting her friends’ lives in grave danger. Chris Penn plays Willard Hewitt, a super-friendly hick who learns some bizarre dance moves that wouldn’t be well-suited for prom, or any other social occasion. Sarah Jessica Parker plays Rusty, Ariel’s gossipy BFF who has the hots for Bacon, but settles for Penn. Ah, the glorious world of late 1980's horror. In Warlock, a witch hunter doing battle with the titular Warlock in colonial America follows his adversary forward in time to the 1980's in order to stop him from destroying the world. Dragged into the middle of this mess is our protagonist, played by Lori Singer, who joins Redfearn the Witch Hunter on his quest to save the world from evil paganism - all while depending on a daily driver that's unsafe at any speed. Yep, our hero drives a Corvair. James makes Sid pull double duty as host AND guest, as Sid has previously owned two Corvairs and can talk about the car from first hand experience. Was this movie really bad? Was it good? What factors sabotaged it from being great? And was the Corvair all that bad?! Was it actually unsafe at any speed or was Ralph Nader just an idiot? (Actually you probably know the answer to that one). Subscribe to Reels and Wheels on iTunes or Stitcher and leave us some feedback! Follow @ReelsandWheels, @SidBridgeComedy and @S2KJames!

God Knows Where I Am is the story of Linda Bishop, a well-educated New Hampshire mother who suffered from severe bipolar disorder with psychosis, who was intermittently incarcerated and homeless, inevitably being committed for three years to a state psychiatric facility. Successfully fighting her sister’s protective attempts to be named her legal guardian, Linda was able to refuse treatment and medication, and eventually procured an early, unconditional release, despite the lack of post release planning. Upon her release, she wandered ten miles down the road from the hospital, broke into an abandoned farmhouse and lived off of rainwater and apples picked from a nearby orchard for the next four months, through one of the coldest winters on record. For nearly four months, Linda Bishop, a prisoner of her own mind, survived on apples and rain water, waiting for God to save her, during one of the coldest winters on record. Unable to leave the house, she became its prisoner, and remained there, a prisoner of her own mind, eventually starving to death. Her body was discovered several months later and with it a diary that Linda kept documenting her journey. The diary, given voice by actress Lori Singer, is poignant, beautiful, funny, spiritual, and deeply disturbing. As her story unfolds from different perspectives, including her own, we learn about our systemic failure to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Most scientists agree that Kevin is tragically obsessed with the classic 1984 movie Footloose. Kornflake, however, had never actually seen it! Thus our mission was clear -- we had to watch Footloose, and then try to make sense of it all. So this week, we discuss the Footloose cast (which was completely upstaged by Lori Singer's red boots), the soundtrack (yikes, so many Top 40 hits, including one from a guy who may have been from Krypton), the dancing (let's hear it for the adorable "Kevin Bacon teaches Chris Penn to dance" montage), and of course, the chicken race. (No actual chickens were harmed in the chicken race -- just Bonnie Tyler's crazy singing voice, and a couple of tractors.) We also have some perfectly reasonable ideas for new versions of Footloose involving squirrels, Klingons, and Rowan Atkinson. And the Mayor of Chickentown drops by and considers passing some Lithgow-style anti-chicken-dancing legislation. So kick off your Sunday shoes (do you really need a pair for each day of the week, Imelda?) and enjoy. And remember that somewhere, Kenny Loggins' beard is judging you.
