History of the Bay Day Oct. 19th at the Midway SF with Souls of Mischief, Mob Figaz, Kamaiyah & more - tickets: https://www.tixr.com/groups/midwaysf/events/history-of-the-bay-113087 -- Kamaiyah took the hip-hop scene by storm when she emerged with her hit "How Does It Feel." But she started with humble beginnings going through the foster care system in Oakland. Inspired by people from Missy Elliot to 2pac, Kamaiyah started writing poetry at a young age and eventually working with local rappers like DB The General and D-Lo. When she started dropping her own solo projects, this eventually led her to sign a record deal with YG's 4Hunnid Entertainment. Although she created hits for YG and Drake, and had an album in the works with Kehlani, she grew frustrated with the label situation and went independent. Now Kamaiyah continues to put out her projects independently and prove why she is one of the most unique voices in hip-hop today. --- History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aa Online Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlA Instagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_one TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_one Twitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_one Facebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone415 00:00 Intro 02:15 Musical influences 04:03 Growing up in foster care 15:41 Musical influences 20:52 The Hyphy movement 23:46 Recording with DB The General, D-Lo 25:29 “How Does It Feel” blowing up 31:49 Celebrities 35:42 Signing to YG 38:26 Album with Kehlani 40:49 Women in the music industry 44:28 Female rappers 51:06 Going independent --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/historyofthebay/support

Hello So Deep Peeps!  Welcome to That's So Deep.  This is the podcast where we try to root out loneliness one conversation at a time. Today we are talking about Loneliness: What Is It?  How Does It Feel?  And What Can I Do About It? Some deep things we cover:What is Loneliness? Mental health professionals define it as the gap between the level of connectedness that you want and what you have.  It turns out that loneliness is incredibly subjective.Loneliness is a Distress Signal: Just like hunger tells us we need food and thirst tells us we need water, loneliness tells us we need connection. We Often Don't Recognize That We Are Lonely: Loneliness is tricky to identify because we have these “weapons of mass distraction” called phones that help us numb out our need for connection.Work Centered Lives vs. People Centered Lives: Our world does not put people first.  It puts work first and we are lonelier and sicker than ever.  What would our world look like if we truly put people first?Tend and Befriend Instinct: It turns out that in times of distress, people often help one another.  Helping others is a great way to cure a lonely heart.Take-aways:Loneliness is Often Masked by Overwhelm, Boredom or Feeling Unsettled:  If you're scrolling through your phone aimlessly, chances are, you might be lonely.  What can you do to feel more connected?  What kind of connection are you wanting and how can you achieve that?Lend a Hand When You're Lonely: Find ways to volunteer or help out a friend when you're feeling lonely.  It turns out that helping someone else feel like they matter helps you feel like you matter.Find Common Ground: If you struggle to find ways to connect with your loved ones, lean hard into the things that you do connect on.  By leaning into the areas where you do connect, you are building the groundwork for deeper relationship. We want to have a conversation with you! There are many ways to connect with us.  Here are some of them:1. Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Lizzie Weber over Zoom video! Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, now based in the Pacific Northwest, Lizzie began her journey as a songwriter living in Studio City, California, where she moved at twenty years old to pursue a career in acting. Two years after her move to Los Angeles, she found herself back in St. Louis writing, recording and producing her self-titled debut album as she pursued a degree in Journalism from Washington University.  Lizzie’s 2014 debut was well-received. A complete unknown to the St. Louis music scene, local magazine Eleven was the first to review the album, dubbing Lizzie “Your Favorite New Artist of 2014.”Following the success of her debut, Lizzie appeared on the cover of the Riverfront Times as one of ‘six artists to watch in 2015.’ From there, Lizzie composed the music for the title track (“Vida Cafeinada”) of the documentary feature film Caffeinated. The song is sung in English and Spanish, and features lyrics written by her father, John Schranck. On their first father-daughter collaboration, they set out to write a song that would stand as a reflection of the agricultural and social underpinnings of that wonderful daily tradition. In the fall of 2015, Lizzie produced and self-released her rendition of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” It was around that time that she met Grammy-award winning producer Sheldon Gomberg (Ben Harper, Ryan Adams, Rickie Lee Jones) and began work her song “Love Again” which was the product of another familial collaboration, this time with her elder brother, John Schranck Jr., who is responsible for the song’s lush, orchestral arrangements. The two began sending Sheldon iphone demos in November of 2015 with the intention of recording the song at his Carriage House Studios (LA) in January of 2016, a pit stop on her way to her new home in the Pacific Northwest. After spending two years both in Seattle and on the island of Fidalgo, Lizzie Weber traveled to Iceland in March of 2018 to collaborate with the Academy Award-winning artist Marketa Irglova (The Swell Season/Once). Together, they produced and recorded two songs, "River" and "Free Floating” released in November and described by Glide Magazine as "a quiet folk song with angelic harmonies and lush instrumentation that swells into a dramatic, beautiful soundscape."Lizzie is proud to be releasing her latest single “How Does It Feel,” the title track off a new EP due out later in January of 2021. An anthem of gratitude, “How Does It Feel”  explores the meaning behind feeling ‘safe’ and finding strength in yourself with the support of loved ones. All three songs were written in isolation amid the early days of the shutdown due to the pandemic; accordingly, this theme is explored throughout all three songs and focuses on what can truly unite us all; empathy, and love. We want to hear from you! NOTE: It's important to go beyond getting the degree (see math below). Do not envision yourself at graduation but go past this event. What is the wildest dream that you imagine after you become a doctor?2.     Pick a person you are close to, but you don't talk to often3.     Imagine a conversation - this is KEY because it goes beyond just thinking about it; the mental conversation lights up something that could happen making it “real”.a.     They ask you: How is it going?b.     You recount your accomplishmentc.     They respond (feel yourself smile; allow yourself to giggle).d.     They ask: HOW IS YOUR LIFE NEW AND DIFFERENT?e.     Get specific – emails, pride, finances; FEEL what it feels like  - envision your story.f.      Continue this mental conversation allowing it to take on a life of its own.Tips: ·      Pay attention to your body when you talk about your goals. I have noticed other people's heads shaking a gentle “no” when they talk about things they want. I have been practicing nodding “yes” every time I think or speak about the reality I am creating. ·      Do this at night before bed so that you can call in that energy during your dream time to support you. Focus on HOW DOES IT FEEL? Ask yourself: How does it feel now that I have?”·      If feeling is difficult, identify something similar that you did accomplish and go one day past that. For example, how did it feel when you were awarded your Master's degree? Or when you passed a licensing exam? For those interested in math and/or sacred geometry, check out: Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Mean (phi). Phi is the ratio we prefer; it explains much in the Universe and explains why going beyond the event works for manifestation. This is a demonstration using the two numbers Maureen spoke about in the interview, but I encourage you to get out your calculator and try it for yourself. 5, 2000 (5 + 2000 = 2005)2, 2000, 2005 (2,000 + 2005 = 4005)2, 2000, 2005, 4005 (2005 + 4005 = 6010)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010 (4005 + 6010 = 10015)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010, 10015 (6010 + 10015 = 16025)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010, 10015, 16025 (10015 + 16,025 = 26040)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010, 10015, 16025, 26040 (16025 + 26040 = 42065)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010, 10015, 16025, 26040, 42065 (26040 + 42065 = 68105)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010, 10015, 16025, 26040, 42065, 68105 (42065 + 68105 = 110,170)2, 2000, 2005, 4005, 6010, 10015, 16025, 26040, 42065, 68105, 110170 (110170/68105 = 1.618)Learn more at: http://Expandyourhappy.comWant to support my free content? Hey there everyone everywhere. That’s a very podcasty thing to say. Happy Thanksgiving for my American listeners. For those of you who live in other countries, happy special November 26th or whatever you call it. Make it a good day wherever you are. It’s not quite time to start celebrating a new year but kudos to us for weathering 2020 as well as we did. Every day in every way I’m becoming better and better. That was the quote from a French psychologist and pharmacist who introduced a popular method of psychotherapy and self-improvement based on optimistic autosuggestion. Every day in every way I’m getting better and better. That was the inspiration behind the song “Better Each Day” I wrote in 1980, 40 years ago. When I needed a name for the podcast, I dipped into my bag of cryogenically stored ideas and out popped Better Each Day. And here we are several thousand downloads later on episode 163. If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. I’m not sure where I heard that so I Googled Buddy Rich quotes. What he said was “If you think you stink, you probably do.” Or “I need new underwear, my old ones are running on fumes.” I’m not sure where that one came from. As a special thank you to the Better Each Day listeners, I’m sitting here at the mic on Thanksgiving Day because this year there’s nothing else I’d rather do than to reflect on a year that was all about rolling with the punches. And talking about rolling, here’s the worst segue of the year, I’d like to play you my rendition of “Like a Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan. It’s four verses of attitude and color, directed at a person that once had it all and: Now you don't talk so loud  Now you don't seem so proud About having to be scrounging your next meal… HOW DOES IT FEEL? I’m watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York. They actually did it. No crowded sidewalks but the floats, pipers with masks and tons of spirit live on. In traditional fashion, let’s spread a happy note through art and music. I wrote and recorded a song last month called Roses and Strawberry Rain. Roses refer to the run for the roses Kentucky Derby. Strawberry Rain is a ginger pony that, in the mind of a little girl, grows up to win. The girl fancies herself as horse whisperer and later, as the soon-to-be-made video will portray, has children of her own...and tells the tale of Roses and Strawberry Rain. Forever. Roses and Strawberry Rain  Born in the light of a lantern The rain whipped through the stable Her momma taught her how to walk  When she was barely able Lightning stuck and thunder came And sweet Kentucky rain  Roses and ponies and photos lost in time Run for the roses was destined in her mind Roses and Strawberry Rain forever Strawberry Rain was a dark horse With a whisperer who knew just what to do And in their final victory May turned to June The rains came and washed away, and roses grew And roses and Strawberry Rain All of our thoughts are the same Roses and Strawberry Rain forever Listen to the children now When the wild winds blow Whisper in a good vibration In a way that everybody knows And roses and Strawberry Rain All of our thoughts are the same Roses and Strawberry Rain forever Roses and ponies and photos lost in time Run for the roses still echoed in her mind Roses and Strawberry Rain remain forever Thanks for the listen. happy holidays and most of all: Be excellent to each other, party on dudes! We had the pleasure of interviewing Zoë Nutt over Zoom video! Nashville newcomer Zoë Nutt understands that time is precious. Although struggling with hearing loss from an early age, Zoë (now 27) wrote and recorded her new album, "How Does It Feel?", in the wake of a cochlear implant surgery intended to save her from complete and total deafness. The album rarely addresses her lifelong battle, but is blatantly informed by the maturity, self-awareness and artistic resilience as a result.Produced by celebrated songwriter Tammi Kidd Hutton (LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts) along with Ben Phillips (Chris Janson) and Greg Magers (Umphrey’s McGee, Lupe Fiasco), the album was created over a two-year period of losing her hearing as an adult and reteaching herself to hear. While in the studio, Zoë needed to hit pause on the recording process to have surgery. Over the course of the next 12 months following her cochlear implant surgery, Zoë retaught herself how to hear, all while continuing to write this standout project. Despite this unspeakable hardship for a young creative with her entire career in front of her, Zoë persevered. The result was a 10-track collection that uses infectious, gleeful melodies and ‘90s-era production juxtaposed against lyrics conveying the torrent emotions that accompany heartache, hardship and artistic resilience. It also features a guest vocal appearance by Brandy Clark and by Jaren Johnston and Neil Mason of The Cadillac Three.Elsewhere on the album Zoë brings a “Americana-Folk flair” (American Songwriter) on the album’s lead single “Happy,” a vibrantly savvy character study about recognizing and cherishing the people and moments that really matter. On the Brandy Clark duet “Too Fast,” Zoë finds herself wishing she could be brave and live life on the edge, while battling her internal voices of being stuck and afraid.Overall, How Does It Feel is an utterly captivating collection all about isolation, belonging and growth, proving that Zoë Nutt is not taking a minute for granted. We want to hear from you! And what does it say about our political system that they've been able to buy their way into viability?    Additional links/info below... Welcome to episode 100 of the podcast, time has gone so fast! I wanted to make sure this episode was special, so for this episode only I have got someone else taking over. The reason being, they are going to be interviewing me and my wonderful husband. So, for this week only, I would like to hand you over to Biz Paul. Key Takeaways Covered in the Podcast ·      When I first started my podcast there was growth but it wasn’t until month nine that my stats experienced that ‘hockey stick’ growth. It’s taken time and money, but it’s worth it because I can teach so many people at once. ·      Without the podcast, I wouldn’t have been able to get in front of the people I have been able to. From Michael Hyatt to Amy Porterfield, I’ve had some incredible guests. It’s invaluable. ·      Learning how to have a positive mindset is incredibly important in the early days of your business. ·      When working with a partner, patience and support are really important. One thing you need to remember above all else… If you’re selling something that is of good quality, you don’t have to apologise for trying to tell. Host: Charles iambranded Madison http://www.nexxlegacy.com http://www.instagram.com/nexxlegacy http://www.instagram.com/charlesmadison_   The reintroduction of R&B/HipHop/Soul singer Paula Campbell is long over due! She touched us with soul searching songs like Denial and Ain't Nobody Stupid in the earlier 2000's and with club bangers like How Does It Feel, setting the mid atlantic region ablaze! Now showing off her beautiful vocals, the unique sound compared to sugar "gritty but sweet," she speaks to the heart of every woman and girl who's ever lost love. The 15 year old who experienced her first heart break and the 30 year old who's had enough and is through with love. Good Without You says what you just can't seem to explain. The No nonsense "telling it like it is" round the way girls balladry Anthem to moving on! "Don't be bitter, be better" Paula says. "Every experience, even a break-up is a lesson learned. Not just about how to handle and value others, but how to first value yourself." GOOD WITHOUT YOU (Lyric video) Single available November 9, 2018 on all steaming outlets. http://www.Instagram.com/PaulaCampbell http://www.Facebook.com/IamPaulaCampbell http://www.Twitter.com/PaulaCampbell

UPDATE: I wanted to add a post script for this episode podcast. I got a lot of feedback about the inclusion of the first track, FDT. Most of it very positive, some not so much. To be expected really. I actually gave a significant amount of thought as to whether or not to include that song. There are clearly a significant number of reasons why one might not want to share a song like that. I carefully weighed these against my primary intention for the inclusion, to capture a cultural moment.   It is protest music and by definition will upset some people. This song in particular received a lot of press last year. It was recorded prior to the election. Time magazine and Rolling Stone both recommended it as one of the top Trump protest songs so I am not breaking any new ground. Hip hop also has a deep history as protest music, particularly music with an incredibly strident message (e.g. NWA - F*ck the Police). A lot of people are very upset and these are important things to recognize in out country and culture. The podcast is meant to reflect that.   In the podcast, I state the song does not really represent how I would approach the issue and I immediately offer up an alternative. I am fully aware that nuance will not be recognized by everyone but weighing all of those factors, I determined it was worth including.  -------------------------------------- I'm back! And I have so much great hip hop for you today. It took a minute to get this one out not just cause I moved which threw my life into a bit of a whirlwind but also cause it's really not all the most "fun" music. Don't get me wrong there are some slamming beats and some scorching flows. However there are also some heavier lyrics dealing with real life stuff. And then on top of that, real life is just kind of crazy right now! That said, I really love this mix. There is this ever present complaint that hip hop is dead. Once again, I offer up a podcast dedicated to showing that hip hop is alive and well.    As always, thank you so much for listening and don't forget to support the artists.   Aaron     Tracklist 1.FDT Part 2 ft. KatrinKa's emotive, enticing and melodic grooves are a perfect fit for Gandey's haunting vocals. The Nameless One is a bewitching follow up to 2015's Beauty, a combination of dark languid rhythms and exotic scales. Meanwhile, How Does It Feel takes things to deeper, more techno-influenced dancefloors. The EP is completed by a set of powerful Editions by Chapter 24 artists Sezer Uysal and Stas Drive, with label newcomer and up-and-coming star Tim Engelhardt also making a big impression. Sezer Uysal (Suara, Manual) applies a cosmic and driving touch to The Nameless One, while emphasising the Eastern musicality of the original. Tim Engelhardt (Poker Flat, Cityfox) shares a dirty, groovy and sparkling vision of How Does It Feel, while Ukrainian Stas Drive (Sudbeat, Crosstown Rebels) transforms the track with big, bold synths culminating in dreamy pads. With music of this calibre, The Nameless One shall not remain unknown for long and marks KatrinKa's triumphant return.

PAUL ELLIOTT, INTERNATIONAL REGGAE ARTIST.BRING CULTURE MUSIC TO THE WORLD. Jamaican born  Paul Elliott's expressive vocals and growing catalogue of reality songs make him a natural successor to seventies' reggae greats such as Marley, Tosh, and Burning Spear .. artists whose music has lasting relevance, is grounded in the Rastafarian tradition, and speaks to people of all nationalities.  Paul's debut album, Save Me Oh Jah, containing hits like Import Corruption and Seek Jah Blessing. A second album, Meaning Of Life, arrived in 2001, and was again mainly self-produced. Songs like True Love, Psychological Warfare, and How Does It Feel demonstrated how his music had broadened in scope, whilst remaining true to its roots reggae foundations. This same compelling mix of soulful vocals, powerful messages, and authentic rhythms can be heard on his latest album, 21st Century, comprised of 15 original songs, and co-starring Richie Spice, Daddy Rings, and Mango Seed. Soon to be one of Jamaica's reggea ambassadors, and developed his skill using his everyday struggles and the strong influences from Bob Marley and the Wailers. Growing up in Trench Town the catalyst for Reggae music, I-cient-cy Mau has inherited that unique sound founded by his predecessors. His debut Album "When Words Take Life" has a roots rock sound, mix with a combination of strong vocal over melodic drum and bass. It is, the true, ghetto experience, all blended in harmony . The first two single off the Album " WORKS TO DO" and CANN FLOLOW NONE A DEM" pack a solid one two punch, that will, have t he world wanting more. call in to chat 661-467-2407
