TOP GUN: MaverickEpisode 16 - Thirty Seven years in the making, was Top Gun: Maverick worth the wait? In short, it certainly was! But just how good was this blockbuster sequel that made the Navy cool in 1986?This is the movie that inspired 3 mates to start a podcast and was the very first episode we released. Unfortunately, Dan was unable to attend the movie and the Instant Reaction episode was only two of us. Now that Top Gun:Maverick has been released on streaming platforms its time to revisit it and attack it as a threesome.Official Movie SynopsisAfter more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.Without giving too much away, the anticipation we had for this movie was almost unbearable, with delays due to the pandemic the public was left to wait through many delayed release dates. Whether you like Tom Cruise or not there is no denying that he can make a great movie and this is no different. Top Gun:Maverick was certainly worth the wait and we thoroughly enjoyed giving the Born to Watch treatment to this instant classic. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://www.facebook.com/borntowatchpodcastf you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew-white

PopaHALLics #80 "Here Come the Kings"We ponder pop mysteries, such as: What's with Tom Hanks' weird accent as Col. Parker in "Elvis"? Why does Tom Cruise personally thank moviegoers at the start of "Top Gun: Maverick"?  (He's king of the box office, with more than $1.1 billion in ticket sales for "Maverick.") We also review streaming options "Loot," "The Old Man,"  "Candy," and public TV's "Seaside Hotel," with a bunch of Danish actors you've never heard of.  Theaters:"Elvis." Austin Butler is electrifying as the King in this highly stylized biopic from Baz Luhrmann ("Moulin Rouge," "The Great Gatsby"). That's Hanks under the fat suit and prosthetics as the conniving Colonel."Top Gun: Maverick." Cruise returns as reckless pilot Maverick Mitchell, training young pilots for a dangerous mission in this satisfying sequel to the 1986 film. Miles Teller ("Whiplash"), Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Connolly also star.Streaming:"Loot," Apple TV. In this comedy, Maya Rudolph stars as a billionaire trying to get her life back on track with help from a charitable foundation she funds."The Old Man," FX and Hulu. Decades ago, a CIA agent (Jeff Bridges) went into hiding. Now they're coming for him—which is a big mistake. John Lithgow also stars in this thriller based on the bestselling novel by Thomas Perry."Candy," Hulu. In this limited series based on real events, a 1980s housewife and mother (Jessica Biel) seems to have the perfect life. Then things go very, very wrong."Seaside Hotel," PBS. This gentle feel-good Danish drama with English subtitles follows the staff and guests at a beach hotel by the North Sea in the years between the two world wars.Music:The motion picture soundtrack for Luhrmann's "Elvis" features the real Presley; Butler performing as Presley; and then such modern performers as Eminem, Doja Cat, Kacey Musgrave, and Jack White doing their take on Presley songs. We take a grisly turn this week with a foray into the violent, haunting, and dangerous world of Dario Argento via his bizarre 1985 giallo horror Phenomena (known as Creepers in the US). Jennifer Connolly stars as an american schoolgirl adrift in a Swiss academy while a brutal killer stalks the wilderness outside. We were intrigued by the eponymous phenomena of telepathic insects and enjoyed the film's brief considerations of insect minds as a form of neurodiversity. We also enjoyed Argento's signature cinematic energy as a potential expression of autistic sensory intensity, but we struggled with the excessive violence and ableism of the film's final melodramatic act. David Harewood is an incredible actor, producer and director. You’ve seen him starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connolly in the film Blood Diamond, in Showtimes’s hit Homeland with with Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, he’s also been in The Night Manager, Man In The High Castle and most recently, he is the martian manhunter, Hank Henshaw, J'onn J'onzz in the CW fan favorite Supergirl. He may seem like he’s lived a charmed life--but his personal journey has been filled with tremendous challenges. When he was a young actor in his twenties he faced intense racism from critics and audiences alike. The racism was so extreme that it undermined his sense of identity and ultimately triggered a psychotic break. He was hospitalized, treated and thankfully recovered. In 2019, in an effort to help destigmatize mental illness, David and the BBC produced a powerful documentary called Psychosis and Me. In the film, David retraced his steps and learned for the first time, as the cameras rolled-what actually happened to him vs what he thought happened. He saw his medical records and how serious his mental condition really was. Because of his personal experiences, he’s incredible advocate for countless charities, from mental health to fighting for more realistic representation in the arts for all ethnic backgrounds to encouraging minorities to vote. David shares how facing his past and seeing his fault lines have made him a stronger, better man. And now, he’s fighting to help others. An incredible story of courage, strength and love. A remarkably talented actor who is an even more remarkable human being. Meet him on Reppin. Well we did a vote on instagram for either HULK or Green Lantern and well...HULK won. HULK 2003 starring Eric Bana, Jennifer Connolly and Sam Elliot. Made in the early wave of comicbook movie wave, this movie had alot to compete with since X-men and Spiderman had already came out. Sadly Marvels strongest hero would flop with his first adaptation. But we sucked it up and reviewed the movie haha so we hope you enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/itcamefrom-thevideostore/support

Gear up for an eerily pleasant listen as we tackle the career of horror heavyweight Donald Pleasence. In our first of three podcasts on horror icons we examine Pleasence's first forays into horror with an episode of The Twilight Zone and the janky UK anthology film Tales That Witness Madness. Best known as Dr Samuel Loomis - a role he'd play four more times - in John Carpenter's Halloween, Pleasence would work with Carpenter twice more in Escape From New York and Prince of Darkness. Along with Carpenter, Pleasence would collaborate with another icon of 70s and 80s horror in Dario Argento's bizarro sci-fi/giallo slasher Phenomena alongside a chimpanzee and a teenage Jennifer Connolly. Although Pleasence has an unbelievable 238 credits to his name it would be a 90 second Public Service Announcement in 1973 that would cement his reputation as a horror icon especially among children. The Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water advised children against playing near dangerous water with Pleasence voicing the titular spirit. It is still spoken of today in hushed tones, half-remembered in nightmares and on cold, misty days the wind seems to whisper the refrain "I'll be back, back, back..."  Andrew Twitter: @Andrew_Carroll0 Stephen Twitter: @StephenPorzio Editor and Community Manager: Charline Fernandez Instagram: @charline_frnndz I Know That Face Twitter: @IKnowThatFaceP1 / Instagram: @iknowthatface Intro and Outro Music: No Boundaries (motorik groove) by Keshco.
