AI development is getting easier, but building production-ready systems remains a challenge. From vibe coding experiments at Mobile World Congress to shifts in AI silicon, networking infrastructure, and the evolving app economy, Patrick Moorhead & Daniel Newman explore what's actually changing inside enterprise technology on this episode of The Six Five Pod. The handpicked topics for this week are: MWC Recap and the Rise of "Vibe Coding": Experiments at Mobile World Congress highlighted how AI interfaces are lowering the barrier to building applications. Tools like Perplexity Computer enabled rapid prototyping of workforce tools, content systems, and market-modeling apps. While experimentation is easier than ever, production-grade systems still require security, accuracy, and operational discipline. The Collapse of Traditional Development Gatekeeping: AI-driven interfaces are reshaping who can build software. Users without deep engineering backgrounds can now quickly generate functional applications. Pat & Dan explore how this shift could dramatically increase the volume of software development while changing the role of traditional developers. AI Infrastructure and the Silicon Arms Race: AI infrastructure continues to evolve as companies compete to deliver efficient compute and networking at scale. Qualcomm is entering rack-scale inference with LPDDR-based architectures designed for efficiency, while Nvidia is investing heavily in optical networking through companies like Lumentum and Coherent to address power and scaling constraints. Intel's Push to Stay Competitive in Enterprise AI: Intel continues advancing its enterprise and carrier roadmap with technologies like Xeon 6 and the 18A process. While the company faces pressure in hyperscaler markets, it remains focused on maintaining relevance in enterprise and telecom infrastructure deployments. Apple's AI Infrastructure Challenge: Reports suggest Apple is evaluating Google Cloud to support infrastructure for future Siri capabilities. The hosts highlight the company's ongoing challenges with internal AI infrastructure development and the broader competition for AI talent. The Flip: Is AI Ending the App Economy? The weekly Flip debate takes on vibe coding. Will AI-driven development lead to an explosion of applications that disrupts traditional SaaS monetization models? Or will this shift simply upgrade the app economy with simple tools, while durable SaaS businesses focus on unique data, strong governance, and trusted platforms. AI Capex Continues to Drive Semiconductor Growth: Broadcom and Marvell continue benefiting from the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure. Demand for networking, connectivity, and high-performance silicon reflects the ongoing global buildout of AI compute capacity. Cybersecurity and AI Disruption Questions: CrowdStrike delivered strong financial results but faced investor questions about how AI could reshape the cybersecurity landscape. The discussion highlights how AI will both disrupt and reinforce security platforms. Capex Pressure and AI Investment Cycles: Amazon faced stock pressure related to the scale of its infrastructure investment, yet its Trainium chip strategy and expanding partnerships, including work with OpenAI, reinforce its long-term AI ambitions. Morningstar's William Kerwin has a five-star rating on Marvell (MRVL) off what he calls "great" earnings and "even better" guidance. However, William believes Marvell remains a small fish in an "excessively large pond." Stephen Sopko says Marvell is positioning itself to be similar to Nvidia's (NVDA) hypergrowth story from the first half of the 2020s. He sees the company capitalizing on a "tight niche" through hyperscaler customers.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors.

How do you protect the IP of a rapidly growing technology company in the dynamic AI sector without slowing engineers or missing what really matters? That question is at the center of this episode of Clause 8, where host Eli Mazour sat down with Subroto Bose, Head of IP at Astera Labs, at the VIA Licensing Alliance's 2025 Bridge Summit.Prior to Astera, Subroto held IP leadership roles at global semiconductor companies and standards-driven licensing environments. That breadth of experience informs a central theme of the conversation: effective IP strategy is ultimately about predicting the future. Patents filed today must remain relevant not only at issuance, but across multiple generations of products and shifting market realities.Astera Labs operates at the intersection of AI and semiconductors, a highly competitive space where multiple companies are advancing the technology in parallel and IP strategy must complement active—and sometimes unpredictable—product development. Subroto brings a rare perspective to that challenge, shaped by earlier experiences growing semiconductor patent portfolios and dealing with non-practicing entities at Altera and Marvell, as well as buying patent portfolios and participating in patent pools at Dolby Laboratories, before taking on the task of building an IP program from scratch at Astera.During the discussion, Eli and Subroto explore how early-stage companies should prioritize patent filings under budget constraints, why patent quality matters far more than volume, and how IP leaders can embed patent thinking directly into engineering culture rather than treating it as a separate legal function.Subroto explains why, in a competitive environment, some IP decisions cannot be deferred without consequences—and how that reality shapes what he chooses to protect and when. He also reflects on what years spent reviewing patents as a buyer taught him about identifying real value, and how that buyer's lens now influences his current role.He also shares why he decided to sit at a desk inside the engineering area when he joined Astera Labs, and the impact that had on how he learned about new technology and engaged engineers. The episode also takes a clear-eyed look at the limits of trade secrets, particularly in industries where disclosure to customers and partners is unavoidable and parallel invention is a real risk. Subroto explains why deciding what belongs in a patent versus what can safely remain confidential is rarely straightforward—and why relying on secrecy alone can leave companies exposed. Finally, Subroto offers advice for those aspiring to become Heads of IP at high-growth Silicon Valley technology companies, reflecting on his own non-linear path into IP leadership, including early litigation work alongside Kathi Vidal before she became USPTO Director. The conversation offers practical insight for anyone interested in how to design and implement an IP program built for long-term success in fast-moving technology markets.Watch the full episode or listen on your favorite podcast app—and subscribe to the new Clause 8 YouTube channel for bonus content.Presented by Tradespace – where ideas take flight.Disclaimer This is a public episode. The AI supercycle is expanding beyond just GPUs. In our first episode of the 2026 series, we break down the critical infrastructure that acts as the "roads and freeways" for data: data center networking, optics, and silicon photonics.Logic chips (like CPUs and GPUs) are the "office" where work gets done, but the network is the "commute" that moves that data. Without advanced cabling, transceivers, and switches, AI clusters simply cannot function.Find out what companies are involved in this fast growing market and how to approach investing in them. This discussion analyzes the evolving landscape of semiconductor networking and custom silicon, anchored by recent updates from Marvell and Broadcom. Ben and Jay review Marvell's Industry Analyst Day, noting the company's strategic pivot toward networking and optical interconnects over pure custom logic. They debate the technical and timeline challenges of shifting AI clusters from copper to optical (fiber) cabling, contrasting Google's proprietary all-optical approach with the broader merchant market. The conversation then moves to Broadcom's recent earnings, dissecting the market's negative reaction to CEO Hawk Tan's low-energy performance, the looming competitive threat of MediaTek at Google, and the complexities of modeling AI revenue. Finally, they close with a year-end review of AI stock performance, highlighting growing capital sensitivity and skepticism regarding the sustainability of current AI infrastructure spending.
Marvell Technology CEO Matt Murphy stated that the company did not lose business from Amazon or Microsoft following reports to the contrary. Marvell's latest earnings exceeded expectations and projected strong demand for data center products. The company announced a minimum $3.35 billion acquisition of Celestial AI to expand its chip business. Marvell's stock initially rose after earnings but declined after the rumors. Murphy noted that Marvell maintains key relationships with major U.S. hyperscalers and is trading below the average semiconductor index multiple.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. The conversation highlights the evolving dynamics in the tech industry, particularly in AI and cloud computing.
There's a lot on the docket for this week, but Kevin Green says he "won't be surprised" to see SPX compression before the Fed's interest rate decision on Wednesday. However, it could set the stage for a Santa Claus rally to close 2025. On the A.I. trade, KG notes Marvell's (MRVL) steep selling action as Microsoft (MSFT) eyes Broadcom (AVGO) for custom chip orders. Broadcom briefly traded at an all-time high Monday morning ahead of Thursday's earnings. He mentions Oracle (ORCL) as another key earnings print this week. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Faraj Aalaei is the Founder and CEO of Cognichip, an AI company building the world's first Artificial Chip Intelligence (ACI) platform to design semiconductors using AI. He brings four decades of experience in communications and networking, having led two companies (Centillium and Aquantia)through IPOs. Aquantia was later acquired by Marvell, where he also held an executive role. Prior to that, Faraj was Co-Founder and CEO of Centillium, which went public on NASDAQ just three years after its founding, the fastest IPO ever for a semiconductor company. He holds an honorary Doctor of Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he also earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, along with an MSEE from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from the University of New Hampshire. In this conversation we discussed:Why chip development cycles are trailing AI applications by years and how that disconnect leads to inefficient infrastructure and higher energy costsHow AI could help democratize chip design by enabling smaller teams outside traditional hubs to build customized, application-specific hardwareWhat Faraj sees as the real barrier to innovation: the time and cost of chip development, and how Cognichip is reducing both through compute-led designHow AI can augment, not replace, engineers by offering transparent, explainable design suggestions while keeping humans in the loopThe coming talent shortage in semiconductor engineering and how AI might close the skills gap and unlock new opportunities for nontraditional buildersWhy every major technological shift creates more opportunity than it destroys, and how Faraj sees AI enabling people to work on more meaningful problemsResources:Subscribe to the AI & The Future of Work NewsletterConnect with Faraj on LinkedInAI fun fact articleOn How To Drive Compelling Narratives in Youtube Videos.
