This fourth episode for Lent 2025 focuses on Cultivating Peace. Jesus calls us to be peacemakers, not simply people who feel peaceful. To be a peacemaker means to enter into situations where there is conflict--and as Scott shares in this episode, sometimes being a peacemaker means bringing peace to a conflict that we have caused. A guided meditation is also offered during the last 3 minutes of this episode. If you don't have a booklet, sign up to receive the daily emails for Lent from Living Compass at www.livingcompass.org/lent-signup. In Genesis 21:22-34 Abraham makes a covenant with Abimelech. Though Abraham had disastrously lied about Sarah being his wife to Abimelech, now we see that God is able to turn this to good as Abimelech sees through the incident that God is with Abraham and defends him. It is by this that Abraham is able to dwell in the land peacefully, even though he is unable to acquire it.

In this week's Earth Riot Radio and our live stage show Sundays the 10th and 17th, (LiveStreamed at https://www.youtube.com/JoespubNY), we explore the intimidating challenge of Making Peace in 2023. Peace is Life. Peace is the Earth. Peace is forests, wetlands, high plains, and coral reefs - ecosystems that live in steady balance, changing but flourishing over time. Human culture works that way, too. A healthy neighborhood (and a big Peace March) has diversity rather than a monoculture, lots of first names everyone knows, and people keep an eye on the predators to stay safe. Now we must enter a time of radical change, and the Earth is showing the way.

(Lander, WY) – KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM's Coffee Time host Vince Tropea recently sat down with Ron Howard and Chessie Lee. Ron and Chessie are two of the event organizers for the 2022 Riverton Peace March and Rally, happening this Saturday, Aug. 6, at Riverton Centennial Park (300 W. Adams Ave.) at 9:30 AM. Chessie is also the co-chair for the Riverton Peace Mission. After folks meet in Centennial Park, they'll head to Main Street and walk to City Park for the rally portion of the event. According to Howard, the march and rally started as a “solemn and humble commemoration for the shooting victims, Sonny Goggles and Stallone Trosper," and has since “evolved” into a “rally of encouragement to continue our efforts of making our community safe and tolerant for everyone.” To learn more about what to expect at the march and rally (which will also include guest speakers, an open mic, and a musical performance form Christian Wallowing Bull), check out the full Coffee Time interview with Chessie and Ron below. In 1917, a dance craze swept through the streets of New York City, prompting reformers to launch a campaign against tango bars and the “Tango Pirates” that preyed upon lonely middle-aged women. When a married woman was found strangled to death in one of the city's ritziest hotels after meeting an infamous Tango Pirate, it made front-page news and launched a full-on investigation into the seedy underbelly of Broadway.Sources:Barber, Donn Ed., “The New York Architect: A National Magazine” Vol. IV, (New York: The Harwell-Evans Company, July 1910).Grimes, William.
