FROM TODAY’s EPISODE: Why Scott left Hollywood to move to Cambodia Why human interaction is the most important thing we can do to make an impact How to listen to the “signs” in our life Video Scott referenced: https://vimeo.com/377734098 Please support www.cambodianchildrensfund.org Scott's Bio: Cambodian Children’s Fund Founder, Scott Neeson, spent 26 years in the film industry, lastly as President of 20th Century Fox International. He managed revenues in excess of $1.5 billion and oversaw the release and marketing of several blockbuster Hollywood films, including Braveheart, Titanic, Star Wars and X-Men. In 2004, Scott left the film industry to set up Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) after a lifechanging visit the Southeast Asian country. CCF now educates around 1,900 children living in one of the most impoverished parts of Cambodia and supports families with community-based projects. Scott was awarded The Grand Order of National Merit of Cheatopka, the highest honour in Cambodia given to those who perform exceptional services to the nation, in 2018. The Central Market is definitely one of my top sites to see in Phnom Penh. Personally while staying in the capital on most days I'll find myself here even for just a half-hour. It's buzzing with activity most of the day and the streets surrounding the market are also worthy of exploring. The dome area is impressive but unless you're interested in checking out gemstones, gold, and jewellry it soons gets boring. The perimeter of the market is my favorite area as this includes the wet market, food stalls, and some places where you can get some pretty good bargains on clothes, if you're willing to pick through the piles that are there. It can be like a treasure hunt though. On my last visit an eager stall owner and her assistant found me 3 pairs of name brand pants, I'm tall so not easy, for $27USD. You can buy some local snacks to take away and there is plenty of fruit, although you might save a little money buying from a smaller more locals only market. Thanks so much for listening. The Bangkok Podcast | Conversations on Life in Thailand's Buzzing Capital
First up - apologies for Greg’s bad audio on this episode! Small technical problem, and it sounds like he’s talking on a phone from Peru. Luckily, Ed does most of the talking! Speaking of Ed, he recently returned from 4 days in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, his first-ever visit. The city’s going through somewhat of a renaissance of late, with plenty of discussion online about PP vs BKK. So what’s Ed’s verdict? As a matter of course, Greg introduces the subject by urging listeners to learn about Cambodia’s tragic history and to take that into account when evaluating its level of development. With that in mind, Ed notes that in many ways, it’s not fair to compare Phnom Penh to Bangkok, and a fairer comparison would be to Chiang Mai. Still, many expats are considering is an alternative to Thailand for various reasons. Next, Ed also points out that there are many factors at play and there’s no truly objective way to judge the cities. What works for one expat may not work for another, so this represents only Ed’s point of view, with Greg chiming about his trip many years ago. On the plus side, Ed notes that Phnom Penh seems more chilled out, with less traffic and more open spaces than Bangkok. The result is a real ‘holiday vibe’ for seemingly everyone there. Further, there’s less of a police presence overall and alcohol is cheaper due to lower import taxes. On the negative side, Phnom Penh has significantly fewer restaurant and nightlife options and the infrastructure, such as mobile internet, is not up to Bangkok standards. And certainly don’t expect subways and skytrains. Greg and Ed run through all of these points, plus a few more, and ponder if - and in what circumstances - a move to Phnom Penh would be advised if you’re thinking about moving on from Bangkok. As always, the podcast will continue to be 100% funded by listeners just like you who get some special swag from us. And we’ll keep our Facebook, Twitter, and LINE accounts active so you can send us comments, questions, or whatever you want to share.
We’ve ventured out of Nepal! In this episode, your hosts Big and White talk about their experience in Cambodia, including warm beaches, amazing history, vegan restaurants, and exciting shopping! They tell of their experiences at Angkor Wat, what they learned about Cambodia’s history, and how they experienced Cambodia’s current state of development. They highly recommend visiting, and hope for some ideas to add to their list for next time.

Our adventure to Cambodia included celebrating the Water Festival (Bon Om Touk) while in Phnom Penh, discovering the beauty of Siem Reap, and taking in the mystery of Angkor Wat. The massive celebration in the country’s capital city brought in over a million visitors and we had the chance to take in the festivities alongside them. Eating insects, watching the boat races, and hearing the fireworks were all part of the 3-day massive party. Our time in Siem Reap helped us understand why it is a backpackers heaven with many pubs, cheap dining options, and the bucket list mystery of Angkor Wat. The magnificent Temple from the 12th century will leave you asking questions of what was built. Our journey to Cambodia was amazing. Listen as we share what we learned along the way. Main Topics Covered: Cambodia High Level Phnom Penh Siem Reap Angkor Wat Links Mentioned in the Episode: Check out our Amazon Store. We list all of the items we love there. Look through the TrustedHouseSitters website to find a great way to travel for free and get your discount by using our link Our condo in Phnom Penh through Airbnb was exceptional and we really enjoyed our stay there. When we were in Phnom Penh, we celebrated Bon Om Touk with the people around the country. I ate crickets and roaches because it was available ;) It wasn’t too bad either. The Tokyo Barber Shop is an awesome shop in Phnom Penh that really knows how to give a great treatment. Our stay at the Rose Apple Boutique Bed and Breakfast was great while in Siem Reap. It had all of the comforts that you could wish for. We really enjoyed working out at the Angkor Interfitness. It had awesome equipment, a yoga room, and a sauna. Angkor Wat has been high on my bucket list for a while based on all of the history. It is crazy how it lines up with other mystical sites around the world mathematically described in this short video. Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
Steven Clyde joins us to discuss "First They Killed My Father" a 2017 biographical historical thriller film directed by Angelina Jolie currently available on Netflix. The story is about Loung Ung, based on her memoir detailing how she as a 5-year-old girl embarks on a harrowing quest for survival amid the sudden rise and terrifying reign of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Steven writes for the site and is always has a fun and interesting take on all things related to liberty and Murray Rothbard. We would each other in the Tom Woods Elite last year and have become good friends. Show notes and more at: www.actualanarchy.com/43 Thank you for joining us on this episode of the Actual Anarchy Podcast! The Actual Anarchy Podcast is all about Maximum Freedom. Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. If it's voluntary, we're cool with it. If it's not, then it violated the Non-Aggression Principle and Property Rights - the core tenants of Libertarian Theory - and hence - human freedom. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics). ABOUT Actual Anarchy, an anarchy unlike what the average idiot thinks it would be. Anarchy means no rulers, not no rules. The non-aggression principle and a respect of property rights are what makes it go. We host a podcast where we take pop culture movies and showcase moments or scenes or themes throughout that are literally actual examples of anarchy. Any place, around the world, there are always examples of Actual Anarchy all about you. Sometimes you just have to sit back and take a look. It’s easy once they’ve been pointed out a few times. Actual Anarchy is real world examples of anarchy in action. Movies, Shows, Books, News, etc… we host all sorts of content on the site from a bevy of writers enthusiastic for one goal: human freedom Read Rothbard – Become an Actual Anarchist PRESENTED BY Read Rothbard is comprised of a small group of voluntaryists who are fans of Murray N. Rothbard. We curate content at www.ActualAnarchy.com and on the www.ReadRothbard.com site including books, lectures, articles, speeches, and we make a weekly podcast based on his free-market approach to economics. Our focus is on education and how advancement in technology improves the living standards of the average person.
