This week, Peggy Anne Salz and Brian Baglow welcome a true PocketGamer OG to the show. Joining the industry in 2001, Oscar Clark has worn many hats—one of which makes him instantly recognizable at every event—from developing some of the earliest mobile games to prototyping PlayStation Home to hosting countless PocketGamer Connects sessions. Now, Founder and CEO of Fundamentally Games Ltd, Oscar shapes strategy for studios to build regular, repeatable, consistent, and cost-effective LiveOps. He joins Peggy and Brian this week for an unscripted conversation about toxic advertising, player safety, and why the industry needs to take greater accountability for both—before regulation forces its hand.CHAPTER TIMESTAMPS00:00 - Intro 01:35 - Oscar's background in games07:55 - Misogynistic tropes in mobile games13:31 - Who regulates bad ads?25:03 - Who's responsible for the gaming experience?29:29 - Designing for vulnerable players38:00 - Internal regulation to avoid external rules42:31 - Favourite games Q&A
A whole lot has happened since the last episode of ModChat, and there's still been a few topics not covered within this episode! For the ones we do go into, the first is covering some major progress on the PlayStation Home revival project Home Laboratory, which is now available by default on the XMB for the latest PS3HEN and Evilnat CFW users on PS3! The PS3 also gets some renewed Hypervisor related interest in the form of BadHTAB, which is based on old HTAB related work from geohot and has been worked on here again in 2025. The Xbox 360 side of house gets more love, with Sonic Unleashed being ported to PC thanks to XenonRecomp, both of which have been released. The OG Xbox gets a fancy new payload in the form of Skeleton Key which serves as a Swiss Army Knife for stock OG Xbox users to run and quickly have several powerful tools available on their screen with minimal effort. Finally, a new FATXplorer tool releases in the form of XDON, allowing for easy Xbox and Xbox 360 drive mounting over a network.
This weeks show Darkestfrost joins the crew to discuss how awesome Arma is with Webby and we all reminisce about the good old days of Xbox when we had awesome times with 1 vs 100, the Xbox avatars and how Xbox used to feel like a community and how things have changed since the glory days. We also talk about how cool and ahead of its time Playstation Home was and how all these console community features have all but vanished! We discuss Xbox doing a SEGA and going full multi-platform and how in some aspects its cool but in another it feels like a kick in the teeth to the hardcore Xbox fans who have stayed loyal to the brand since the beginning. Games discussed include: Lonely Mountains Snow Riders, Arma, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, Sniper Elite Resistence, Metro Vr, Resident Evil 4 VR, Assassins Creed Nexus, Hogwarts Legacy, Dead Island 2 and much more. Quite alot of news this week including Xbox going to multiplatform on games that used to be considered huge exclusives, More layoffs at Bioware, Ubisoft rumoured to be going bankrupt, and more games being shutdown. Hip Hop Gamer fell in love with videogames at the early age of 4 years old. In December of 2007, he would take to digital media to create his first YouTube video and merged Hip Hop and gaming into one entity. One video led to another, and soon Hip Hop Gamer started to develop a small fan base. E3 veteran and former owner of thebitbag.com, Torrence Davis soon spotted HHG's work and offered him credentials to attend E3 for his first time. It was then that HHG strove to become a world renown brand in gaming media. The HHG movement continued to grow as after an interview with TV host and DJ Peter Rosenberg of “Ebro in the Morning” on Hot97, as he was presented with the opportunity to become a gaming content contributor for New York's top hip-hop radio station, Hot 97 combining his love for gaming, sports and entertainment in a unique way, the Hip Hop Gamer began curating and creating custom content for motion pictures such as Battleship and Ghost in The Shell as well as by interviewing celebrities such as Jerry Rice, Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jon Cena, Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Ryan Reynolds, Tyler Perry, RZA, Raekwon, Vivica A. Fox, Angela Basset and a host of other A-list celebrities and industry leaders. Hip Hop Gamer was also one of the first journalist to be on Playstation Home. He also has music that can be found in Watchdogs 2, Twisted Metal, Halo Reach, NBA Playgrounds 1 and 2. He is a playable character in the NBA Playground games and a charcter in the Watch Dog 2 Game. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mastermine-mrg/message
Here are all of the questions we answer this week: - What other Nintendo games deserve movies? - Will games on disks be a thing of the past? - What is the coolest setup you've seen at E3? - Could Steam Deck have been more friendly toward PC newbies? - What will happen if Xbox gamers don't buy $70 games? - Who is to blame for PlayStation releasing games on PC? - Should old PlayStation franchises remain in the past? - Why have Sony and Xbox failed with live service games? - Can Xbox succeed in Japan if it has Japanese studios? - Will Nintendo come after Valve for posting an emulation video? - Why doesn't Marvel vs. Capcom 2 have online lobbies? - Should Sony resurrect PlayStation Home? - What is your favorite wrestling game? - Is PlayStation too dependent on Call of Duty? You ready for this, Playa? Welcome back to the Club! This week, Emmett Watkins Jr and Allan Muir are back to give the most expected eulogy of all time, as Google Stadia has finally bit the dust. Come January of next year, the service will no longer exist, so both Emmett and Al (but mostly Emmett) look back at what the service was and why it died. Then they also look at other gaming services that have met their demise well before their time, like Onlive and PlayStation Home. Also, in the Whatcha Playin segment, Al talks about their time with Skyrim and Dead Space while Emmett talks about his time with Father Forgive Me and Elden Ring. On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Jada Griffin, Tom Marks, and Mark Medina to discuss all the latest and greatest in the world of PlayStation, including our thoughts on why Stray is the adorable cat game we hoped for. But first, we jump into some of the PlayStation news of the last week, including the announcement of the new PlayStation Stars loyalty program, whether we hope it means the return of PlayStation Home thanks to its assortment of digital collectible, and how we hope these new features are implemented. Then, we talk a bit about God of War Ragnarok's new story synopsis (skip ahead if you don't want to hear any details), as well as PlayStation deepening its investment in the esports space. Then, we dive into our thoughts on Stray, the new PlayStation-console exclusive from Annapurna and BlueTwelve Studio. Tom reviewed Stray for IGN, so he offers some thoughts from his review about why he thought Stray was great, Jonathon and Mark offer their experiences having beaten Stray as well, and Jada offers her early impressions from the beginning of Stray…as well as how she played Tokyo Jungle to get another cat gaming experience while she waited. We also dig into a lovely Jak & Daxter Memory Card story, read some of your responses to Mark's TLOU question from last week, and help a listener figure out what RPGs to jump into. A mostly PlayStation focused episode with a side of Xbox this time around! We first look at the release of Halo 3 Sunrise, a custom server revival of the Xbox 360 version of Halo 3 that's compatible with both modified AND non-modified consoles! PS3 gets a 4.89 system update, as well as PS Vita with the 3.74 system update, so we discuss that a bit as well. PlayStation Home gets a bit of a comeback with a breakthrough showing that it's possible to run it through the Destination Home project... On official firmware!? We also hopefully see the beginning of something awesome with some PS3 modchip related news, possibly leading us to full custom firmware on ALL PS3 consoles! The PS5 also has some announcements with a recent kernel heap overflow disclosed, as well as a method of showing a bit of the console's filesystem! Finally, we take a look at a lovely and flat out delicious looking modded original Xbox in the style of Mountain Dew Code Red. Tune in and enjoy!
This week we have snow storms, Mountain Dew going "hard", and plenty of tv show talk. On the gaming front Trees is still rocking Loop Hero and Minecraft Dungeons, but he also dove into Wreckfest. The highlight of his week, however, was re-living the Playstation Home days in Four Kings Casino, albeit now on Xbox. There's a slight side tangent about the recent acquisitions before Fred wraps the show with Watch Dogs 2. Closing Song: I Love Video Games by Lil B

Esperemos que salga mejor que New World.

This week, we couldn't resist talking about Meta Platforms Inc. – and all the dumb things Facebook has done before. We also look into carbon-neutral AI: Northern Europe might be a cold, dark and unforgiving place to live, but it's a perfect location for hot and power-hungry data centers that run AI training workloads. We start with Meta – a new name for a holding company that owns Facebook, along with Instagram, WhatsApp, and a bunch of other tech subsidiaries. With its flagship platform facing a string of PR disasters, the people in charge have decided that it was the right time to deliver on the outlandish ideas promoted by The Zuck over the past six months. Meta's big bet is virtual reality – something that countless other businesses have tried, but invariably failed, to take mainstream. Is it any wonder we have decided to drink this week? It is true, following its acquisition of Oculus, and with video game legend John Carmack on board, Facebook Meta has some of the best chances of actually delivering on the promise of VR. At the same time, the company's 3D wizardry clearly needs more work – who renders fire like this in 2021? There is nothing impressive or ‘life-like' about the tech demonstrated by The Zuck. Next, with the COP26 summit in Glasgow in full swing, we look at how AI builders can make their models more sustainable. We discuss the specific example of Neu.ro, a company that created a zero-emissions AI cloud in partnership with atNorth (erroneously referred in the podcast as NordDC), operating from Iceland, where servers are powered with geothermal energy. atNorth is not the only company doing this: in one of our previous podcasts, we looked at the example of Verne Global, another data center operator to feed AI models with renewables. Sweden, Norway and Finland are all making similar data center pitches – and it makes good commercial sense, with the Nordics enjoying some of the cheapest electricity in the world. We also cover: Second Life! PlayStation Home! The eventual death of the planet! Can you find all the f-bombs in this episode? As always, you can find the people responsible for the podcast online: Max Smolaks (@maxsmolax) Sebastian Moss (@SebMoss) Tien Fu (@tienchifu) Ben Wodecki (@benwodecki)

PlayStation is booming. Recent financial results from Sony prove it, countervailing the prevailing wisdom about the brand's shortcomings. The reality is stark: PlayStation 5 is the fastest-selling home console of all-time so far, even under severe supply constraints. Meanwhile, more games have now been sold for PlayStation 4 than any gaming hardware, ever, and PlayStation made nearly twice as much in revenue as rival Xbox over the last fiscal year. They're very much in the black, with billions in profit to show for it. So what does this all mean? Well... it means we need to give Sony a lot more credit than we've been providing in recent weeks, so let's remedy that. Let's also cover the other news, as it presents itself. Ideas for The Last of Us III are percolating at Naughty Dog, PS5 launch game Godfall looks like it's getting a PS4 port, old LittleBigPlanet games have apparently been in a non-functioning state for quite some time now, Sony filed new trademarks for PlayStation Home and Soho Engine, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is the key to accepting a $70 price point the launch functionality (or lack thereof) of modern games? Can you host industry events, galas, and the like, and be an objective critic? Has a game ever been so good that it's ruined everything else for you? Is Colin lying about his lack of a sweet tooth?
