Jonny Greenwood kennen we natuurlijk van Radiohead, maar hij is ook al twee decennia filmcomponist. Onlangs schreef hij de muziek bij de film The Power of the Dog, een hedendaagse western van Jane Campion. De film is fraaie bewerking van de gelijknamige roman van Thomas Savage uit 1967. Over cowboy Phil Burbank (een prachtige rol van Benedict Cumberbatch), die in de jaren twintig van de vorige eeuw in Montana een ranch runt. Naar de buitenwereld toe gedraagt hij zich als de stoere macho die neerkijkt op alles wat zwak en verfijnd is, maar diep van binnen hunkert hij naar aanraking. Bijvoorbeeld door Peter, de zoon van weduwe Ruth. Het is even wennen, maar dan overtuigt de doorgaans fijnbesnaarde Cumberbatch des te meer als de ruwe en gekwelde Phil.
