In this episode of the Endless Metal Podcast, Markisan and Ben are excited to talk to Vince Verkay, drummer and founding member of death doom masters: EVOKEN. In a two-part interview, we begin by talking to Vince about his earliest exposure to heavy music, playing drums, the origin story of Evoken, and the band's very recent success. Although Evoken isn't a full-time job, the band has hit a number of personal milestones including performing at Roadburn with Winter, playing the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest, and finding Profound Lore, a label that band truly appreciates. While Evoken has not released an album since 2018's World War I themed masterpiece Hypnogogia, things are about to change quick! In the fall of 2025, Evoken is set to release a brand new album that is explores both new sonic terrain and harkens back to a more aggressive rage found on beloved earlier records such as The Antithesis of Light. We also share some laughs and great conversation. So sit back and enjoy a pint of Schadenbrew, a full-bodied, blood-red Belgian dubbel, inspired by Evoken and brewed by Atlas Brew Works!

One might think that with an album name such as Drudge To The Thicket (Profound Lore), California's Fabricant plays around with sludgy doom. However, that couldn't be further from the truth as this debut is squarely in the death metal camp and is technical throughout, brutal at times, charred around the edges, and savvy beyond its years. So yea, you need to get in on this while things are getting off the ground floor. Buke recently chatted with lead guitarist and vocalist Troy Roberts about the new album, some band history, a stint in Mefitis, and a whole bunch more. The Infinity Ring is one of those new bands which will make a lasting impression on the listener, because they sound pretty timeless and classic and at the same time modern and progressive. That paradox and a lot more was the reason for us to do this interview with band leader and main song arrangeur Cameron. Some of the other topics included their collaboration with Jarboe and how that came to fruition, the seemingly Gothic character of the songs and their haunting beauty, their quite intricate songwriting and the way the songs come to life in the studio. The Infinity Ring's upcoming record Nemesis And Nativity will be released on April 14th via Profound Lore (the pre-orders can be placed here) and we can assure you that the record is brilliant as our review on Thursday will show you. Until then you can already get some background information on it so stoke the fires of excitement!

Terrance Hannum, synth-ist and keyboardist in his darkly beautiful drone-core band Locrian, doesn't set out everyday to be the most creative human on earth, but more often than not, something does indeed get made. Between his job as a professor of 3D Printing and digital fabrication and his life in Locrian, he also manages to write award-winning fiction, pulls haunting images out of his soul for his oil paintings and sculptures of dead flowers, and uses cassette tape to powerful effect of structured minimalism. Locrian has a new record called New Catastrphisms out August 12th (Profound Lore) produced and recorded mostly live by none other than J Robbins (Jawbox/Burning Airlines) to profound results. It continues with their string of celebrated records in a vein of music not unlike the beautifully disturbing and heavily weighted pieces of Hildur Guðnadóttir and the Chernobyl soundtrack.

Eugene S. Robinson returns! I always look forward to conversations with Eugene; razor sharp wit, funny and verbally engaging, it's always a good time.   I first was introduced to his work back in the late 90's, when I discovered Oxbow, a hard-to-classify band that combined razor sharp musical execution, unique vocals, controlled aggression, subtlety and a very cool narrative lyric style. Additionally Eugene is a journalist, author and podcaster whose work has appeared in Vice, Decibel, GQ, Grappling Magazine and a host of others.  He has two published books, “A Long Slow Screw” and “Fight” one of my favorite works about punching people in the face.   If you dig MMA and combat sports tune into his weekly podcast The Show Stomper.   Much to my chagrin, I learned recently that Eugene is also a member of Bunuel, a band that I have been sleeping on  for the past few years.  I fancy myself to be someone who is in the know when it comes to music, but I admit to be a Johnny-come-lately with respect to Bunuel Bunuel, has a brand new record called “Killers Like Us” available now on Profound Lore.
