Dr Fresch on the On Locations Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions at Decadence 12/31/22   About Dr Fresch - In 2013 after winning Insomniac's Discovery Project Contest, Tony Fresch launched the Dr. Fresch brand. His debut self-titled EP and innovative hip-hop/rap remixes quickly exploded in the blogosphere. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Fresch was subsequently featured at #9 on Billboard Magazine's “Next Big Sound” Chart. His music weaves together elements of house, hip-hop/rap, and midtempo to create a unique, forward-thinking sound. Over the summer of 2015, Dr. Fresch launched his semi-monthly mix series “House Call” which has since garnered tens of millions of plays. Each installment features a 30 minute Dr. Fresch mix followed by a 30 minute guest mix and is featured on Sirius XM on Mondays. Dr. Fresch's 2016 collaboration with Baby Eazy-E (Eazy-E's son) “Gangsta Gangsta” went viral online and climbed the UK Club Charts setting the tone for his future releases. Dr. Fresch has since released records on the likes of OWSLA, Insomniac Records, Atlantic, Ministry of sound. He continues to play a prominent role on the festival circuit with plays at likes of EDC Las Vegas, Paradiso, Moonrise, Electric Forest, CRSSD, Splash House, Osheaga, Shambhala and more. In early 2018, Dr. Fresch released his collaboration with Bijou and Denzel Curry entitled “Revelation” on Insomniac Records. He released his sophomore EP in July of 2018. The lead single “Fire” has gone on to be a hit in the festival and club scene while raking up millions of plays online. Dr. Fresch started off 2019 with the launch of his new record label, which released a debut compilation featuring over ten artists. This was followed up by his G-House collaboration EP with Bijou and an official remix for Rico Nasty. 2020's big shift has led to a focus on music. At the top of the year Dr. Fresch released a 21 track compilation album, “The Remedy Volume 2,” featuring 23 other prominent house artists. I can listen to Chief Keef and do my make up bomb as fuck. Meanwhile, Houston legends Big Pokey and Lil Keke make an appearance on “Southside Royalty Freestyle” alongside Sauce Walka. Other notable guests include Key Glock, Pooh Shiesty, and Lucky Daye. “I want to take you through so many different emotions,” Megan told Rolling Stone about the album. “At first you was twerking, now you might be crying.” The Houston MC added that she hopes to build a legacy as “one of the best rappers, the coldest.” Among the project's 18 tracks are several previously released singles: “Pressurelicious” featuring Future, “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa, and “Plan B,” one of the best songs released this year. We had the pleasure of interviewing grandma over Zoom video.Following his April single “I Met God Online,” genre-bending alternative artist grandma releases “Blue Atlanta,” a dreamy ode to darkness and disengagement. grandma also announces his next EP, “Angelhood” today, which is set for a July 15th release.“Blue Atlanta is about the imaginative avenues I created at a time of extreme loss. When I began to hate my environment and my inner world grew dull all I could do was detach. The video is about unfolding and breaking away from the life I created that caused me so much pain. Whether it was friends dying to addiction or suicide I just felt the light went dimmer and dimmer,” says grandma of the track. “I Met God Online,” released last month, chronicles the nonlinear nature of love in the digital age—failed talking stages, psychosexual pining, miscommunication and vibe shifts— intertwined with a fascinating strain of theism. ”I Met God Online” is about people's fascination with internet esotericism,” says grandma. “A meditation on how someone's life and internet presence can amorphously become someone else's religion, obsession, or gospel.”Hailed by Highsnobiety for “crafting music that pushes the notion of genre experimentation and fusion to unimaginably innovative heights,” grandma – a.k.a. multi-instrumentalist/producer Liam Hall – has earned applause for his fascinating amalgam of bedroom hip-hop, raw funk, alternative R&B, and lo-fi pop, showcased on 2019's debut mixtape, Even If We Don't Get It Together. The project – which features such groundbreaking tracks as “Stomp and Grind (Feat. Rico Nasty),” “Downtown Life,” and “Shallow Water,” – was followed in 2020 by an extensive string of chameleonic singles, including “Everybody's On Their Phone,” which was featured on SiriusXM Alt Nation's Advanced Placement and described by PAPER Magazine as a “reassuring and observant new song”, and “Virtually Anything,” an acclaimed collaboration with anti-pop star sophie meiers which earned acclaim from Nuance Magazine as “an extremely enticing track that is a must listen for any alternative/R&B fans.”Known throughout Atlanta's pop and hip-hop scenes for his skills as a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, programmer, arranger, and visual artist, grandma has received a wide range of media attention, with Pigeons & Planes naming him “Best New Artist of the Month” and A1234 declaring, “grandma, I have no doubt, will soon be the soundtrack to many people's adolescence as his genre-defying talent speaks to a whole new generation of music lovers.” The preternaturally talented polymath maintained a steady flow of tracks through 2020, including “Chills,” “Bested,” and “Growing Up Is Strange”.Now grandma is poised to push his distinctive brand of personal pop ever higher, reaching heavenward with a one-of-a-kind sound and vision unlike any other. Expect more music from this new chapter soon.We want to hear from you! Croc-cast Crocs? Like the shoe?? No. Crocs like an abbreviation of the wild Dino like reptile…No jk it is about the shoe. What I like most about Crocs is how they have Gibbitz™ and their motto is “So that's what the holes are for.”  Also the fact that Crocs does collaborations with actually very cool ‘influencers' (Brittany Broski is the only one I'm thinking about here). I mean they're really a shoe of the people. In this episode, Trina admits to loving big oil, Jeanne takes her honeymoon alone, and Elsa completely sells me a croc. Hook line and sinker. Leave it to J. Cole to bless fans with one hell of a surprise like this. Today (March 31), the Fayetteville star and his Dreamville camp — Ari Lennox, J.I.D, Bas, EARTHGANG, Cozz, Lute, and Omen — connect with DJ Drama for D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, which is expected to feature both unheard tracks and previously released cuts like J.I.D's “Ambassel,” a standout effort from the Madden NFL 22 Soundtrack. D-Day is also being released in conjunction with this year's Dreamville Festival, which takes place this weekend in Raleigh, NC, and (in addition to the aforementioned) will see a wealth of support from Lil Baby, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Kehlani, Moneybagg Yo, Bia, Rico Nasty, Wale, WizKid, Morray, Fivio Foreign, Blxst and more. Drama will also be in the proverbial building to perform a Gangsta Grillz set alongside Lil Wayne, Jeezy, and T.I. It's been a few years since the Dreamville collective came together for the third installment of their Revenge of the Dreamers series, which contained a healthy 18 cuts and a slew of outside contributions from the like of DaBaby, Reason, Childish Major, Yung Baby Tate, Guapdad 4000, Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, Smino, and Deante' Hitchcock. The project proved to be a huge success for all parties involved, landing at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 115,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. The following year, a Director's Cut upgrade of Revenge of the Dreamers III surfaced with 12 additional songs. As far as Cole himself, last year saw him liberating his sixth studio LP The Off-Season, another chart-topper from the camp (and Cole‘s sixth). He later promoted the album via a tour of the same name, bringing along 21 Savage and Morray for additional support. source: J. They then get into Lil Baby and Sweetie rumors, John's “Spotify Wrapped” top 5 artists, a WNBA player who starts an OnlyFans, a Minnesota Timberwolves crowd chanting “Rachel Nichols” at Jimmy Buckets and the Rachel Nichols vs ESPN beef. It gets deep when the boys get into the terms black and white, why people still refer to other people as colors and what those words represent. On today's episode, Phlemuns founder James Flemons and I discuss the building of community through fashion. Whether it is through his social media presence on Tumblr, Twitter, or Instagram, or through his pop-ups, sample sales, and product drops, James has managed to create a brand built on a consistent open interaction with an ever growing community. His authenticity and honesty are unique and necessary for the industry today and I am grateful for his openness while we discussed his trajectory and journey until today. James and I also discuss fashion's relationship with music, and how important fashion is for artists to create "eras" and visuals. Through his brand Phlemuns, he often collaborates with musicians and has been a part of many iconic moments in music including dressing Solange for her Don't Touch My Hair music video, Lil Nas X for his TIME magazine cover, Lizzo, Kelsey Lu, Rico Nasty, and more. We also talk about some of the challenges of running your own brand in today's industry, his early career working at Opening Ceremony, our personal style journeys, and our mental health journeys. James is a designer, artist, and activist. He is the designer and founder of PHLEMUNS.
