Please leave a rating and written review for the show!Click here to get your free gift: God's Heart for Moms--A 3-Day Devotional!Welcome to our new mini-series for moms.As a mother, you are the light of your home. You set the tone for how your family runs, how they respond to hard things, and how they rejoice in the good. We don't become the light of our homes in our own strength. In fact, to use the lamp metaphor, we want to upgrade from being an oil lamp that's constantly running out, to an electric lamp that plugs right into the source. You stay plugged into Christ, and you will be a beautiful and powerful light in your home. My mom's most-listened-to episode Quiet Times for Busy Moms with Jeanne Dillon. Jesus Followers Must Carve Out Quiet Times to Listen for the Holy Spirit Who Speaks to Us in His “still small voice” MESSAGE SUMMARY: God will speak to you, but you must learn to listen for Him. Learning to listen for and to God requires focused and "in-tune" listening in combination with a filter for all the in-life clutter that your lifestyles and culture create. As Paul tells us in Romans 10:17, followers of Jesus must listen and hear the Word from the Lord: “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.". You are going all the time with stimuli from many different sources – how can God speak or be heard, in a still small voice, through all your noise? To hear and listen for God, "lengthy times in silence and solitude" with the Lord are needed. Times of quiet prayer with God permits the noise and clutter get taken away. Again, in Psalm 141:1, the Psalmist admonishes us to call upon the Lord and to listen for God's Word: “LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you!". TODAY'S PRAYER: Abba Father, I admit that I am often afraid and embarrassed to openly tell you all that is going on inside me — even though I know you know it all anyway. Teach me what boldness in prayer looks like as I draw near your throne of grace. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 112). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Hatred. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Love. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). God plainly says to us all, "Come to Me and learn from Me." As full-time followers of God we endeavour to meet with Him each day - simply to be with Him. Through the years we have all created routines for our Quiet Times with God that seem to work for us. In February 2025 many people in NCF's congregation filled in questionnaires as to what they actually do with their daily private time with God.This Talk contains several references to the results of this research, as well as encouragement and ideas to tweak what you might be doing already. What an honour to be invited by God to spend time with Him! Let Him engage your mind, your imagination and your heart as you intentionally devote time to being with Him. May others be changed as you further abandon your life to God, just as God used the fives loaves and two fish in a supernatural way.You can read the script for the whole Service here.

It's the beginning of the year and resolutions are wearing thin. Well in this episode Aaron and James discuss why you can't beat a habit of reading your Bible and praying to God the often commended typically guilt ridden "quiet time." It's a practice that doesn't get much love these days. Fits more in the spiritual discipline category of days gone by, and not the spiritual formation category. But if you want to hear from God then you must read the Bible. And if you want to talk to God, then you must pray. And if you want to cultivate a deep relationship with God you must listen to him and speak to him. We recommend the quiet time.

Summer is upon us! Which means pool days, vacations, VBS, and lots of ice cream. It also means lots of our schedule and routines are all out of wack. And that's slightly delightful. But in the midst of all this disruption, one practice we should safeguard is spending time daily in the Bible and in prayer. Why is a daily practice (of any length) so important for our lives? How can neglecting our spiritual formation actually be harmful to our families? And does a personal devotional practice have to be long? (No!)In this episode we'll talk about strategies for easy 5-15 minute "bite sized" quiet times and be encouraged that pursuing the Lord is always worth fighting for.“And because love is a habit, our hearts are calibrated through imitating exemplars and being immersed to practices that, over time, index our hearts to a certain end.” -- James K. A. Smith

By Paul Moody in Kennewick, WA, Kettle Falls, WA, Spokane, WA - December 9, 2023 - We live in a world full of noise! As God's people we must learn to quiet our environment and draw close to Him, just as Jesus Christ did. Spiritual quietness is an effect of the righteousness of God at work in our lives, but it has to start somewhere. It begins with finding our quiet times and places were our relationship with our heavenly Father can be developed and nurtured.

Join Bev and Delaney as they discuss as a panel with Lauren and Nicole about their personal quiet time with the LORD. Each woman is in a different life stage and they are talking about their own specific obstacles to having a daily quiet time and what this practically looks like in their lives. Lauren is a married mama of a newborn whose quiet time has changed a lot over the last few weeks. Nicole is a married homeschool mama of 4 who is always on the go. Bev is retired, and wears the titles of wife, mama, and grandmother and has keen insight into her specific life stage and perspective for younger women. Delaney is a single mama who faces her own set of unique challenges. There is no one-size-fits-all for quiet time with the LORD but there is one thing all these women have in common: a desire to spend time with God. Listen to learn more!

Recently, Walter Russell Mead wrote an outstanding article in Tablet titled “You Are Not Destined to Live in Quiet Times.” It's about the paradox—and great dangers—of technological progress: “Human ingenuity has made us much safer from natural calamities. We can treat many diseases, predict storms, build dams both to prevent floods and to save water against drought, and many other fine things. Many fewer of us starve than in former times, and billions of us today enjoy better living conditions than our forebears dreamed possible. Yet if we are safer from most natural catastrophes, we are more vulnerable than ever to human-caused ones.” Today on Honestly, Walter talks about that significant vulnerability, and why human-caused catastrophes are the most serious threat to humanity today. Walter also explains why he believes we have definitively entered a pre-war era, and what he thinks needs to change in order to get us out of it. Walter Russell Mead is a fellow at Hudson Institute, a columnist at The Wall Street Journal, and a professor of foreign affairs and humanities at Bard College. He's written numerous books on foreign policy, including last year's excellent book on Israel titled The Arc of a Covenant, and he is the host of the brand-new podcast What Really Matters. Quiet Times. I've been asked whether things were noisy and loud back in the old days. TV Adverts were not as loud, restaurants were relatively quite... No, things weren't so loud and noisy back in the 50s and 60s. Join me this Sunday for a chat about noise.

Lectio Divina is a popular form of prayer using the reading of Scripture as a means of encountering God. While its origins are in Christian tradition, Lectio Divina is sometimes associated with a kind of individualistic loose spirituality. Dr. Hans Boersma, however, makes a strong case for its use in the devotional lives of faithful Christians. Alastair, Matt, and Derek probe his case in this episode of Mere Fidelity. What comes first? Hip-hop or culture. It's hard to say but there is no doubt that hip-hop artists are incredible story tellers, and we at Listen owe a lot of our truth and inspiration to them. Listen in as JoJo, Brentos, and Jeff dig into their early memories with hip-hop, how artists understand brand, and why being mentioned in a hip-hop song is the ultimate sign that you or your product has officially made it.*This was recorded in February 2022.A word from our portfolio: Whether you're new to the weed party or you've been around for a while, Miss Grass is here to light your way. It's pretty incredible that we get to spend time alone with the God of the whole universe. But it can also be overwhelming and confusing. Because that time with God can vary from person to person we want to get more than one perspective. So that's why we invited Kristen Hoff, Corrie Farver, and Danella Hitri to talk about their time with God. What do they love about it? What's challenging? Rather than give a set of rules, we hope their experiences and love for God simply inspire you to spend time with Him.
