Can't knock the hustle like an NFL kickoff 2023 weekend episode of #ckth2things with the one and only, West Philly Hippie. Aka: Two things. Two questions. And one prediction. Amongst others, today's topics include: One, is Shedeur Sanders now the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy? Not since Rashaan Salaam was running for 2,000+ yards have the Buffaloes had a leader at such a statistical pace. Through two games, Sanders has thrown for nearly 1,000 yards — and he always seems like he is playing within the flow of the offense, even when the play has gone off script. And, like last week, Travis Hunter continues to show his unique skills and stamina as a two-way playmaker (with Michael Irvin gracing the sidelines, no less). Next, we review who are this season's NFL contenders versus pretenders. Finally, Andre shares his prediction for today's matchup between our Philadelphia Eagles and the Patriots. Don't hold your breath if you're a New England fan. As always, big ups and much respect to Andre for bringing the energy and sharing the knowledge. Tap into the West Philly Hippie and @thegoodoledayssports podcast for more expert analysis. Cheers and enjoy. And #flyeaglesfly

There were almost as many fumbles on the field as there were fans in the stands. In a rain-soaked XFL game, the Memphis Maniax defeated the Los Angeles Xtreme, 18-12 at the Coliseum. The Xtreme announced that 18,341 tickets were sold for its second home game, but a crowd estimated at less than 8,000 braved the torrential rains that pelted the Southland. The Xtreme drew 35,813 for its first home game Feb. 10. Rain contributed to 11 fumbles. Memphis fumbled eight times, losing two. The Maniax even fumbled on the game's last play when they were trying to run out the clock. The Xtreme (2-2) fumbled three times, losing two, and a number of passes slipped out of quarterback Tommy Maddox's hand. Maddox completed only 11 of 35 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown and threw two interceptions. Because of the rain and increased security measures, crowd rowdiness which occurred in the opener was absent. Also, beer sales were cut off at the end of halftime. Despite the weather, the beach scene at the east end of the Coliseum was back, as was the hot tub. Only this time a portly man was in the hot tub rather than three strippers. The Maniax were led by two former NFL first-round draft choices. Quarterback Jim Druckenmiller, starting in place of injured Marcus Crandell, completed 13 of 22 passes for 215 yards, including a two-yard first-quarter touchdown pass to tight end Mark Thomas. Druckenmiller was the San Francisco 49ers' first-round choice in 1997. Rashaan Salaam, the 1994 Heisman Trophy winner and the Chicago Bears' first-round pick the following spring, rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown in 26 carries for Memphis (2-2).

Jason Kaiser and Kurt Gouveia scored on long fumble returns and Las Vegas' defense also set up a field goal as the Outlaws beat Memphis 25-3 on Sunday night in the XFL. Kaiser scored on an 80-yard return in the second quarter, and Gouveia had a 100-yarder in the third quarter. The victory left Las Vegas as one of only two XFL teams undefeated through the first two weeks. Orlando is the other. The two teams traded first-quarter field goals, a 47-yarder by the Outlaws' Paul McCallum and a 23-yarder by Jeff Hall. On the first play of the second quarter, the Maniax had the ball at the Las Vegas 20. But a bad handoff by Beau Morgan was picked up by Kaiser, who returned it for a 9-3 lead. With Memphis down by six early in the third quarter, Rashaan Salaam appeared to go over for a tying 8-yard touchdown run, but fumbled at the goal line. Gouveia scooped up the ball and returned it down the left sideline for a 15-3 lead. Chrys Chukwuma had a 9-yard touchdown. Las Vegas Outlaw starting QB Ryan Clement was injured by Maniax defensive player Shante Carver with a vicious hit that separated Clements shoulder. Backup Mike Cawley took over but didn't fair well. It was the Outlaw defense that was able to shutdown the Maniax to get them to 2-0 on the season.

Making his return on the IMPACT SHOW today is a world-renowned nutrition expert and good friend, Robert Yang. This episode is EPIC...I reached out to my podcast and Instagram listeners and asked for your top nutrition questions to ask Robert. We had over 50 questions come through on supplementation, sports nutrition, weight loss & weight gain, intermittent fasting, fasted cardio, top hacks for peak performance, and everything in between. This is a rapid-fire nutrition course in just one episode.    Specifically, this is what Robert and I cover in today's episode: - Gut Health & what to do about it - Intermittent Fasting and Fasted Cardio - Tips for longevity, happiness, and success with nutrition - Nutrition tips post-cancer - Sports nutrition for the youth athlete - Supplements - MCT Oil, Collagen Protein, and Magnesium - Nutrition tips for when things get in the way of healthy habits - Thoughts on Dairy - Weight loss and weight gain - Top Nutrition Hacks for Peak Performance & energy   Without further ado, let's go to the episode. Working on a Gut program...Why is Gut health important   10:02 - Questions about Fasting sam_bidmer asks: Is Intermittent fasting healthy? What is the best way to do it?   Rhoop31 asks: A lot of discussions has been made about fasted cardio or training for the enthusiasts for fat loss. Is there a science to it?   Colby.schreckengost asks: It seems intermittent fasting and cell repair are all the rage now. Do you believe that fasting is the best way to heal your body from chronic inflammation? I'm a chronic Lyme disease patient. I have a flare-up typically when the seasons change, but this summer has been tough due to the heat and humidity on the east coast.   25:12 - Questions about diets. emeraldrealtync asks: Thoughts on dairy? What do you think of the “starch diet”?   emeraldrealtync asks: What's one of your best tips for longevity, happiness, and success when it comes to nutrition?   31:26 - Fiber… how much do we really need?  Kellys_bootcamp asks: Suggestions for real food fiber. It can be a challenge to get 25 to 35 grams a day, especially for those who are less carb tolerant.   32:49 - Nutrition and Cancer eringlynn8 asks: What are your thoughts for nutrition post-cancer? I did keto for 2 years with great success, but my cholesterol went up so high my Dr. was overly concerned. (I did a calcium score and tested 0). The premise was to starve the cancer cells from sugar – make them ‘sick' and improve the effects of the treatments.  Being on an estrogen blocker seems to really be affecting my weight loss efforts.  Resource: Dom D'agostino - “Fasting and Ketosis.”   35:30 - Nutrition for when life gets busy.  gwms12 asks: What are some solid habits/nutrition tips to embrace when life gets in the way and to help keep you from throwing hard work away?  A big struggle is that I know what to do but it's when life throws you curveballs and I just go back to the “easy” which is not always the most health-conscious decision.   38:15 - Nutrition for when you get older.  mamarusher365 asks: When's the best time of the day to eat fruits?  So many in natural sugars, that it seems a bowl of. Any combo wouldn't be so bad to have?   mamarusher365 asks: Do women over 55 need an extra something in our nutritional plan, that we might be losing in our body when working out? I work out 7 days a week, whether bodyweight or weights. Main goals are healthy on the inside, strong on the outside.   41:54 - Nutrition for high school athletes  Matthewsmithatc05 asks: How complex should nutrition be for high school athletes?   45:05 - Parents listen up...Special message for the kids from Todd and Robert.   47:52 - Nutritional Intake with Calorie Output  jimmillerjrnflagent asks: For 13/14-year-old female soccer players:  Suggested calorie intake and carb/protein/fat percentage? Some are doubling up on high school cross-country running or volleyball and then coming to our training session that runs 90 minutes. I am concerned they are not fueling properly for the output they are burning, and you know the high schools don't have a nutritionist on staff to help their athletes regulate.   52:10 - What is MCT Oil dianadeadlifts asks: What are the benefits of MCT Oil? Does the timing of creatine supplementation play a big role in how effectively your body will use it whether it's pre or post-exercise?   1:02:07 - Magnesium Benefits  shooten1st asks: How should magnesium be taken as a supplement? Any naturally occurring sources of food?  Lots of misinformation out there. Magnesium Glycinate by Albion   1:04:24 - What's the best diet for HPA Axis Syndrome polished_chick9 asks: Dr. Golightly diagnosed me with HPA Axis Syndrome. Not only are my adrenals shutting down, but my cholesterol also keeps rising.  I had been on keto then switched to plant-based for 8 months and it went up another 20 points! I am diligently following her supplement protocol but am at a loss as to what to eat.  I eat fruit, veggies, salmon, nuts, and now occasionally chicken and cut out all alcohol. Thoughts?   1:09:35 - How IV therapy affects performance  turnuptheheat66 asks: What's your take on IV therapy, specifically for performance base prior to competition and what recipe? How long prior to competition?   1:11:33 - Rapid fire questions for Robert.   - Best practices - What brings you the most joy - Best book or podcast you've read in the past month - Josh Waitzkin “The Art of Learning.”   - What are you most looking forward to in the future     1:15:16 - Parting words from Robert.   * Robert was also on Episode #44 of the IMPACT SHOW titled “Nutrition...Guts, Hormones, Gluten & Coffee” and this was one of our Top 10 listened to thus far out of 215 episodes. Born in Chicago, raised in Pasadena, went to La Salle High School, recruited to play baseball at St Mary’s but chose to play at Pasadena City College and later at San Diego State. John Maffei shared his memories as a teammate of Darrell Evans while at Pasadena City College. Evans' talent helped lead their baseball team (and basketball team) to state championships. Evans played professionally for the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants and the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers. John Maffei formed a strong relationship with basketball coaching legend Jerry Tarkanian who was the head basketball coach at Pasadena. John was a part of Tark's support staff helping him keep the game book while John was not playing baseball. Tarkanian offered John a full ride scholarship to Long Beach State when Tark was hired there (prior to his career at UNLV and Fresno St), but John politely declined the offer because he wanted to keep his baseball dream alive. We spent time going down memory lane of John’s time at San Diego State as the sports editor of the Daily Aztec and player on the baseball team.  John shared a special relationship with football coach Don Coryell and helped him recruit athletes to play for the Aztecs.  John Maffei spoke at length of his time as a manger in the California Collegiate Summer League where he played against incredible baseball talent including one game facing both Mike Scott and Jesse Orosco in a double header.  We touched on a baseball tour he did Alaska playing in the Midnight Sun games, including sharing fun memories of Bob Moss (Hubba Jubba!). No story of San Diego sports is complete without recounting wonderful stories of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn.  John Maffei shared his special moments with Tony in the Padres dugout after batting practice and sharing Tony’s desire to make a positive impact with each fan he interacted with. It was fun to discuss so many incredible athletes from the Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Penasquitos area including Tony Gwynn Jr., Cole Hamels, Trevor Williams, Eric Chavez, Jaime Jones and Billy Beane.  We shared stories about both Deron and Dominick Johnson, including Dom’s incredible talent as a basketball player before becoming a modern-day pitching guru on par with Tom House. I am leaving so much out in this written summary.  We also shared stories about John Wooden, the San Diego Sports Arena, the 2019 Padres outlook and their minor league system, Qualcomm Stadium, Rashaan Salaam, La Jolla Country Day High School, Marcus Allen's incredible performance in a CIF title game, Ricky Williams, Alex Smith, Rancho Bernardo vs Montgomery baseball, Kevin Towers and so much more.
