Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics:How should we react to the downfall of President Assad in Syria?  Is this a positive move forward?  Should we be celebrating or should we be concerned?  What are its greater, cosmic implications?  What does the Midrash predict about the fall of Syria?  What does this chapter teach us about today's world events?  What does Jacob and Esau's reconciliation tell us about the conflicts between the West and the East, and the future?  What are the implications of Esau marrying Ishmael's daughter?  Was Jacob the true first born?  Why did the birthright and blessings have to be channeled through Jacob though they belonged to Esau?   Why was Jacob silent when he heard that Dinah was violated?  Did he approve of Shimeon and Levi's vengeance on Shechem?  How do we abolish harsh decrees?  After the tragedy in UAE how do we deal with doubts in the promises given to us?  What was unique about the Mitteler Rebbe?  Why is the Mitteler Rebbe associated with Binah?  What differentiated between the geulah of the Alter Rebbe and the Mitteler Rebbe?  Why is he called the Mitteler Rebbe, even after we have seven Rebbes?  What is the background behind the sefer Pokeach Ivrim?  What is the story of the Mitteler Rebbe suggesting the use of joy to abolish a harsh decree?  How is that different than the saying of omein yehei shmei rabba?  Was there more emphasis on simcha in the times of the Mitteler Rebbe than in the other generations of the Rebbeim?  Should we name our newborn boy, whose bris is on Tes Kislev, Dovber or Hamnuna?  Why did the Rebbe say Kaddish on Yud Kislev?

Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

It may happen that when a person sets out to do a mitzva, he runs into obstacles. He then continues trying to do the mitzva, but the obstacles get harder to overcome. He may think to himself, I don't understand, I'm trying to do something for Hashem. Why would He keep trying to stop me? Does He not want me to do the mitzva? The answer is, for sure He wants you to do the mitzva, but He wants you to get the most out of it. The harder a person tries to do a mitzva, the greater the mitzva becomes. If it gets extremely difficult to do, and the person continues to persevere, his rewards for that mitzva will be unimaginable. The Sefer Sas V'Imratecha tells the following story, which took place a number of years ago. Two great Rebbes, who were brothers, arranged a tish on Tu B'shvat, and suddenly, at around midnight, one said to the other that they hadn't done the mitzva of Birkat HaLevana yet. This was the last night to do it, and there were only a few hours left to get it done. The problem was that it was overcast with thick clouds, and there was a very slim chance that the moon would appear in the next few hours. At that time, they were in the Zichron Moshe shul in Yerushalayim. They decided to travel towards Yericho, and hopefully spot the moon there. They figured that the eastern part of Israel was hotter, and maybe had less clouds. They were approaching Yericho, and were stopped at a checkpoint. The sky there was filled with clouds as well. They asked one of the soldiers if they could put out a message asking soldiers in other locations if anyone could see the moon from where they were stationed. The soldier was dumbfounded by the request, and asked the Rebbe why he wanted to know such information. The Rebbe told him about the mitzva of Birkat HaLevana, and how there were only a few hours left to do it. The soldier put out the request, and almost every reply was negative, except for one, who said he was near Me'arat HaMachpela, and he was able to see the moon. The Rebbes became so excited, and urged their driver to go there immediately. The soldier told them by the time they got there, the moon would probably be gone, but they didn't pay any attention to him, and they hurried there at once. When they finally arrived, it was two o'clock in the morning. Baruch Hashem, the moon was still visible, and they recited Birkat HaLevana with great jubilation. Even though it was very late, and they were extremely tired, they wanted to take advantage of the fact that they just did a mitzva with great self-sacrifice. One of the Rebbe's sons was with them, who was married for twenty years without children. They decided to go to Kever Rachel to pray, and there they prayed from the depths of their hearts, and miraculously, that year, the Rebbe's son was zocheh to have his first child. The value of a mitzva done with great difficulty is enormous. If we ever set out to do a mitzva and we run into obstacles, it's a gift from Hashem to enable us to get a much bigger mitzva for the very same deed, but it requires effort and perseverance. Hashem never wants to stop us from getting a mitzva. He only wants to make it better for us.

In this inspiring episode, we dive into the heart of Purim Katan, a day that mirrors the messages of resilience and faith found in Purim itself, especially during leap years. We'll journey back to 1920, amidst the chaos of the Russian Revolution, to a moment of audacious defiance by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Sholom Ber Schneersohn, during a Purim Farbrengen. Despite the mortal danger presented by the Bolsheviks' intrusion, the Rebbe's fearless proclamation that "Judaism will never die" sets the stage for a story of miraculous survival and unwavering courage. We follow the legacy of bravery through to his son, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak, during a similarly tense Purim Katan Farbrengen in 1927. His open challenge to the Soviets, emphasizing the importance of Jewish education and the spiritual warfare for the souls of Jewish children, showcases a breathtaking level of heroism and dedication to preserving Judaism at all costs. The narrative reaches a poignant climax with the Rebbe's dramatic arrest and subsequent liberation, a testament to the power of faith, international advocacy, and divine intervention. Fast forward 65 years to 1992, when the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, reiterates the call for self-sacrifice in the name of Judaism, urging not just a readiness to die for one's faith but to live with a sense of urgency and purpose towards spiritual growth and the hastening of the Moshiach. As we celebrate Purim Katan and reflect on these powerful stories of resilience, defiance, and hope, we are reminded of the legacy left by generations of Rebbes. Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

The month of Nisan is auspicious for salvations. Our Chazal have told us, in this month of Nisan will come our ultimate salvation, the redemption from our current exile, which we hope will take place today. One of the great Rebbes once said, just like when Adar comes we increase our joy, when Nisan comes, we increase our emunah. No matter what problem a person is experiencing, he must believe that Hashem could rescue him in an instant. We say in the haggadah , כל דיכפין ייתי וייכל – whoever is hungry should come and eat. Now is the time for a person who has been struggling with parnasa to be zocheh to an abundance of blessing. We say כל דצריך ייתי ויפסח – whoever is in a time of difficulty and needs to get out of it should pass over his problem and merit a personal redemption. People feel chained in their problems and want to experience the wonderful feeling of freedom. B'ezrat Hashem now is the time. Singles who have been waiting years to get married would love to experience the joy of marriage. Everyone loves to hear of a good segula they could do to speed up the process, and there are segulot brought down regarding shidduchim . Some of them include accepting Shabbat early, helping others get married, saying Az Yashir with kavana , but the greatest segula of all is tefila with true emunah of Who we are speaking to and His exclusive ability to help us. We must never give up on tefila , no matter how long we have been praying for something. The longer we keep our hope, the more valuable the tefilot become. Anything done with great self-sacrifice is always a good segula for yeshua . Rabbi Chizkiyahu Mishkovski told a story about a family in Ramat Shlomo who had a widowed mother living alone for years. The children were able to take turns visiting her, making sure all of her needs were taken care of, but as she got older, she became much weaker and required care 24/7. She refused to have an aide in the house and she refused to go to a nursing home, which meant that the responsibility to care for her fell completely on her children. One of her boys lived in Bnei Brak. Each time he came in, it took him nearly two hours each way, having to use multiple buses. For him to come more than one day a week was going to be extremely hard. The same was true of some of the other children. The daughter who lived in Yerushalayim discussed the matter with her husband and, heroically, they said to the other family members that their own family will make sure to have someone there around the clock six days a week and the other children could just take turns coming in one day a week. They didn't do this begrudgingly. They told the others they were happy to have the zechut of doing this precious mitzvah. This family had three girls of marriageable age, all not married. One was 28, one was 26 and one was 21. After just one month of this family's self-sacrifice with their mother, the 28-year-old girl got engaged. A month after that the 26-year-old got engaged and, amazingly, a month after that, the 21-year-old got engaged. They told the Rabbi, “When our mother got weak and needed this care, we felt the extreme difficulty and pressure of having to take care of her all the time, but little did we know, this was going to be the ticket to our salvation. All of those years of difficulty trying to get our daughters married, and now in just three months all of them got engaged.” The opportunities we get in life to put forth self-sacrifice in the performance of mitzvot is a gift to us from Hashem for our own good. May everyone experience the glorious feelings of salvation in this wonderful month. Baruch Hashem, we are happy to announce the release of Living Emunah on the Topic of Shidduchim from Artscroll. It can be attained at any local sefarim store.

TheYeshiva.net - Most Recent Classes

Women's Class Parshas Bo: This class waspresented on Tuesday, Parshas Bo, 2 Shevat, 5783, January 24, 2023, at Bais Medrash Ohr Chaim in Monsey, NY. It is a fascinating law in this weeks portion. If I am eating the Afikoman and I fall asleep, when wake up I cant continue eating it. Because it is as though I am beginning a new, second meal, and the Passover offering meal, as well as the Afikoman, have to be eaten in one single uninterrupted meal. The above law applies if a person was conducting a seder alone. But what if he or she is eating the Passover offering or the afikomen with a group of other Jews, then even if he or she falls asleep, they can continue eating after they awake, as long as some members of the group remained awake. The logic is clear. If I am eating in your company, then even if I fell asleep, my meal has not been interrupted, because you are awake. As long as you guys are awake, when I resume consciousness, I am right back in the game. The fact that I took a nap for an hour or two does not mean that my meal has ceased. At first glance, it seems like a technical law, even if quite fascinating and also a bit of a stretch. It was on the 20th of Teves, 5750, January 17, 1990, when I heard from the Lubavitcher Rebbe the deeper emotional and historical meaning of the above law. I still recall how emotional and moving the Rebbes explanation was, including of how marvelous it was to see a seemingly technical law reflecting such a splendid insight into Jewish history. It also contains timeless lessons on how we view our brothers, sister, and children, who at some point feel detached from the story of Judaism and the Jewish people.

Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics: Chassidus applied to Yud Alef Nissan – 120 YearsWhy are we honoring this day? Why should the Rebbe's birthday matter to those that never heard of the Rebbe? What is the significance of the Rebbes 120th birthday if Gimmel Tammuz happened 28 years ago? How did the Rebbe change the world and what is his impact on my life today? How to deal with the challenges of the 21st century? What methods did the Rebbe teach in order to prosper without apathy? 13 Nissan – Tzemech Tzedek's 156th Yahrzeit: Why did crying out Tzemech three times not bring the geulah? Chassidus applied to PesachHow do I deal with my wife's OCD around Pesach? If the seder represents our celebration of freedom from slavery, why do we make a seder during golus when we are not entirely truly free yet until Moshiach comes? Why do we mention during the seder that we are descendants of slaves and idolaters when it is prohibited and insulting to remind a convert that he came from idol worshippers? Is there a spiritual reason for the custom to peel fruits and vegetables on Pesach? If matzah represents humility and bread represents arrogance, why do we only eat matza for eight days instead of all year long? Why do we lean to the left during the Seder? Chassidus question: How will Pesach be observed after Moshiach comes?
