Are you in need of a blessing for something? Good health? Money? Shiduchim? Improving your marriage? Getting pregnant? Parenting children? or literally anything else?Rabbi Shimshon Chaim Nachmani promised blessings to those who learn his holy sefer, Zera Shimshon, consistently. This could be once a day, once a week, once a month, as long as it is on a consistent basis, you will see blessings in your life.Rabbi Nachmani is an 18th century Jewish Italian kabbalist who wrote mefarshim (commentary) on many of the holy texts. He has commentaries on the Torah parsha of the week, on Tehillim (Psalms), and on other holy books as well.Through learning Zera Shimson (translated as the seed of Shimshon), we begin to have increased menuhas hanefesh (calmness of the soul), emunah (faith in G-d), and bitachon (trust in G-d). Our day becomes more meaningful and spiritual. We are able to think more clearly. In this mesmerizing interview with Rebbetzin Esti Goodstein, principal of Shalsheles Bais Yaakov High School in Brooklyn, New York, we learn all about the Zera Shimshon, including the Zera Shimshon on parshat Pekudei about shabbos. Rebbetzin Esti is a graduate of Machon Bais Yaakov Intensive Seminary, and has been in the field of education for several years. She has a Masters' Degree in Psychology from Columbia University. She has also taught in Prospect Park High School, Machon Bais Yaakov High School, Orot Sarah High School, Touro University, Gamla College, and Manhattan High School for Girls.Rebbetzin Esti emphasizes that tests (nissayanos) happen in life. Sometimes we go through something that is very hard for us, but there is always hope for salvation and growth, especially if we learn Torah through Zera Shimshon. Today, Adina and I explore many topics. Starting from how she began her private practice as a PA out of her home to her opinion on Ozempic to balancing everything going on in her busy life. What I love about Adina and what I was able to see as her patient as well as her colleagues is that she does not take a "one size fits all approach" at all! Every patient that she sees is a whole life and a whole story and she will treat them according. At the same time she is fast and efficient. She knows we are all busy with a lot to juggle so she will get you in and out of her office in no time. Like Adina says herself "she is an adrenal junkie." She thrives on the busyness of her life and our whole community gets to benefit from that. I didn't agree with everything Adina said regarding Ozempic. We all have a unique lens as to how we see the issue of weight loss drugs. I appreciate where she is coming from and we were able to respectfully disagree. Ask anyone in Louisiana, or any other state, and they'll tell you that two of the greatest problems today facing the average American are access to affordable housing and access to quality affordable healthcare. Despite billions in federal funding and policies intended to help, the need continues to grow. On this episode of Out to Lunch, Stephanie talks with two local entrepreneurs who are taking matters into their own hands to fill the void and make things better. Wendy Green Daniels is President and CEO of Beechwood Residential, a Baton Rouge-based real estate development and consulting firm that specializes in multifamiy affordable housing. Wendy founded the firm in 2012, with a mission to enhance the lives of residents and revitalize communities through the creation of high-quality, socially impactful housing. Before venturing out on her own, Wendy, who grew up in Baton Rouge, spent more than a decade learning the ropes from other successful nonprofits, including Mercy Housing and Columbia Residential in Atlanta. Over the years she has overseen the development of more than 4,500 mixed-income housing units. Sandrine Nkouga is the founder and CEO of the El Shaddai Family Clinic, a new primary care clinic in Prairieville that specializes in family medicine and also treats patients for behavioral health issues, weight management and chronic disease. Sandrine is a native of Cameroon, Africa, who came to the US as a young child and grew up in Virginia. She received her doctorate in nursing from Touro University in Nevada, and after moving here with her family for her husband's career, opened her Louisiana clinic in 2023 to help address the demand for more primary care providers and to make it easier for uninsured or underinsured patients to receive quality care. Wendy and Sandrine's businesses are both great examples of a recent trend in business, a kind of for-profit activism. These types of businesses combine entrepreneurship and social activism, harnessing the power of the capitalist economy for the good of all of the community, not just the wealthy, powerful, or fortunate.  Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at Mansurs On the Boulevard. For our NextGen Journeys series, host Hillary Acer sat down with Dr. Brian Le at a major moment of transition as he was just finishing up his residency in family medicine at Adventist Health in Glendale, California. As he embarks on his next chapter, Dr. Le reflects on the highlights of his medical education journey and takes stock of the key lessons he will bring forward with him. “I think the biggest thing that I've learned so far is you really don't know what you don't know, which goes to one of the reasons why I wanted to pursue medicine... there's always an endless pursuit of knowledge and of improving yourself,” he shares. There's also an endless amount of knowledge coming at today's clinicians which, he says, requires a good dose of humility. “Those who don't remain humble, in my opinion, can't really thrive in this environment just because there's always something new to learn.” Dr. Le's learning journey included earning a DO from A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Mesa, Arizona -- one of Osmosis' key learning partners -- a master's degree in medical health sciences from Touro University in California, and serving as an Osmosis Medical Education Fellow and curriculum consultant.  Considering that wealth of education and experience, it's no wonder you're in for a wisdom drop on learning, medicine, and the future of healthcare from one of the newest members of the next generation of caregivers.Mentioned in this episode: A.T. He learned in yeshiva in Ashar, Netiv Aryeh, and Yeshivas Bais Yisroel. Shapiro made his musical debut as the star soloist of the Miami Boys Choir. After leaving the choir, Shapiro took a break from music until his voice transitioned sufficiently. He was a student of legendary voice teacher William Riley. He worked in other jobs and was a regular at birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, engagements, and as a one-man-band. Eventually, he began performing at weddings and other Jewish events as an independent artist.  Mordechai is one of Jewish music's hottest and most gifted performers. He also teaches music at HANC. He has been described as having the "ability to do things with his voice no one else in this business can". As an artist, Shapiro takes pride in the fact that his songs are message-oriented, “In every song that I sing, there is a distinct message of positivity and joy that I aspire to promote through my music.” ____________________________________________________________ This episode is brought to you by Touro University! After many months of emotionally wrenching, exhausting work on the frontlines of COVID, and the unexpected death of his mother, Dr. Michael Foti found himself in an emergency room dealing with what he suspected was a heart attack, but it was actually a panic attack caused by untreated anxiety and depression. “As healthcare providers, we're afraid to speak up about our mental health because it's seen as a weakness,” he explains. He's trying to change that culture in his role as a clinical assistant professor of Internal Medicine at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. One key message he tries to get across to students is that healthcare providers have to be healthy themselves before they can do the most effective job possible helping patients. As he tells host Michael Carrese, he's also urging providers experiencing mental health issues to speak up to help normalize the experience. “The more that we can share these stories amongst colleagues, then they will feel more empowered to get the help that they need.” On this insightful episode of Raise the Line, you'll also have the opportunity to hear Dr. Foti describe Touro's standardized patient program and its efforts to increase self-directed learning and interdisciplinary education. Mentioned in this episode: https://tourocom.touro.edu/
