Vevo's EVP Global Sales, Rob Christensen, joins us to talk about Vevo Evolve, the new data-driven ad platform. Rob also dives into multiplatform success, AI, measurement, CTV, and more.
On this week's episode, host Tim Boyum talks with author and retired political reporter Rob Christensen. The two discuss Christensen's newly released book, Southern News, Southern Politics, which tells the fascinating story of the Raleigh News & Observer and its impact on shaping North Carolina's political history. With a 45-year career at the newspaper, Christensen is undoubtedly an expert on its modern history. But the stories go back to the 1800s when the publisher was involved heavily in Democratic politics and even white supremacy. He also gave Tim his take on the future of newspaper and investigative journalism, which require real time, money and resources. “Influence is diminishing and right now there's not a good economic model for the News & Observer and other small local newspapers to flourish,” Christensen explained. "Who knows whether it's going to be around another 100 years."
Brad Monkell sat down with Rob Christensen to talk about the NYC Stand up comedy scene, the difference between NYC Comedy and Albany NY, and about improv comedy.

Later on, Sina Basila Hickey gets some burning questions answered about gardening. After that, Brad Monkell talks with comedian Rob Christensen. Finally, Thom Francis spotlights poet Cat Simon & Kate S who shared their poetry at the 2024 Word Fest in West Sand Lake.
Rob Christensen is a home care veteran who has runs 4 agencies and day services. Sadly, some clients get to a stage where they need to have 24-hour care and they can't afford to have that service in their home. Rob learned that facilities are willing to pay a handsome finders fee (generally one-month of the facility fee) for a new referral. So Rob added a service for placing clients in facilities. The results have been highly beneficial in a number of ways, as follows:Finding the best facility is a beneficial service for the client and their familyBy building relationships with local facilities, they'll turn to your agency when their residents (e.g., in independent living or assisted living) need services. The payoff is both high dollar and high margin. Rob spoke of single placements that paid $8,000.After making this process work in his first location, Rob went on to improve the process and automate a solution. This includes cataloging detailed facility information for making the best match, the ability to send HIPAA compliant referrals for evaluation, and a tool for tracking all the placements that are in progress.Check out the full episode to learn more.Home Care Heroes and Day Service Stars is produced and sponsored by Ankota - If you provide services that enable older or disabled people to continue living at home , Ankota can provide you the software to successfully run your agency.. In this episode of Beyond Networth Podcast, we have Uncle Rob Christensen, a business owner, and entrepreneur. Listen in as he shares his journey from his high-paying job at a big corporation to start his own business. He also shared his insights about the necessary steps and sacrifices business owners have to make to turn their small businesses into a successful empire. Preview of this episode: 13:12 - “So the lesson I learned there was really, nobody really cares about your money more than you do. And nobody cares about your business more than you do either. You know, so you have good employees and hopefully, you mentor them and whatnot, but still, they're still employees, you know?” 23:35 - “My thought process in those early days was I wasn't looking at what am I doing. I'm not just building this home care business, but I'm circling myself with people that know how to build businesses that have resources. 25:24 - “in my mindset when I did this was never how do I replace my income? It was how do I become free? How do I keep my income but yet not have a job, you know? How do I really become free?” 29:24 - “Well, one is you have to understand the business that you're in, right? And so, like I said, just because you're in business doesn't gonna make money, right? And even if you're in business, that does make money, if you don't understand what your product is, what your service is, and you're not the best at it. Or if you can't attract talent, then you're just not gonna succeed.” 49:54 - “It's just knowing what your priorities are. You know, really being true to who you are and what you want to accomplish. And cuz and at the end of the day, money comes and goes,” Learn more about Rob: Instagram - instagram.com/robert.christensen71
The media may have moved on from its wall-to-wall coverage of the killing of Tyre Nichols, but the nation is still hurting. This week, we're discussing how incorrectly diagnosing the problem of police brutality has led to a system that hurts everyone. We're joined by Heather McGhee, author and chair of the racial justice organization Color of Change, and Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff, CEO of Center for Policing Equity. They share their thoughts on why armed cops shouldn't be doing minor traffic stops, how the system changes a cop from the inside out, and how investing in human infrastructure is our best solution to the ongoing problem of police brutality. Also, writers Rob Christensen and Kasaun Wilson weigh in on the sensationalization of the body cam footage and their own run-ins with the law. Season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+. Last week, the battle over elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made headlines, but it also brought up memories of North Carolina's very own speaker battle 20 years ago this month. It led to a co-speaker arrangement with a Democrat and a Republican. It also led to high drama, prison time for one of the speakers, and changes that are still being felt today. Three veteran political reporters who were there, Rob Christensen, Gary Robertson and Lynn Bonner, join Tim to talk about the wild times that changed North Carolina politics forever.
This week's guest is Safi Rauf, an Afghan refugee who came to the U.S. as a teen and is now the president and founder of Human First Coalition. Also a veteran, he tells us about his work in Afghanistan helping to evacuate local interpreters who worked with American troops. He shares the astonishing story of how he was taken hostage—and eventually released—by the Taliban while working there. He also talks about the Afghan Adjustment Act and the obstacles he's run into while advocating for it. Plus, writers Rob Christensen and Tocarra Mallard stop by for a little schadenfreude about Trump's very bad midterms week.Stream our newest episode, “Election Wrap-Up Special,” now on Apple TV+.Credits:Hosted by: Jon StewartFeaturing, in order of appearance: Tocarra Mallard, Rob Christensen, Safi RaufExecutive Produced by Jon Stewart, Brinda Adhikari, James Dixon, Chris McShane, and Richard Plepler.Lead Producer: Sophie EricksonProducers: Zach Goldbaum, Caity GrayAssoc. We don't want to send the message that criticizing us on Twitter is a ticket to the podcast...but that's what climate reporter Kendra Pierre-Louis did, and now here she is. Kendra had some issues with our climate episode on Apple TV+, so Jon invited her on for a conversation. And just like our planet, things heated up—insofar as you can call a thoughtful exchange of ideas “heated up.” Jon is also joined by writers Rob Christensen and Tocarra Mallard to talk about Twitter trolls, beard maintenance, and the importance of a steady government job.Jon recorded this episode away from the studio, so if it sounds like he's talking into a paper cup tied to a string it's because he actually might be. We're back on Apple TV+ with brand-new episode “The Problem With Stocks,” and we're celebrating on the podcast the only way we know how—by interviewing former SEC commissioner Rob Jackson. (We're bad at celebrating.) We get his thoughts on why the market isn't held accountable and is less regulated than casinos. Robby Slowik and Rob Christensen join Jon to give their thoughts on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and how Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy went from comedian to courageous leader. Not to mention their recommendations for the cleanest restrooms in New York City.Words in this episode you may not know but should know:Arbitrage is exploiting a price difference of the same asset. It's like buying avocados at the supermarket for $1 each and selling them at the hipster farmers market for double.Dark pools are private exchanges for trading securities that are not accessible by the investing public.Options trading is buying and selling of options, which are essentially contracts that give you the right to buy or sell a stock at a certain price by a certain date. It's basically betting on a stock price going up or down. So if you purchase an option instead of buying a stock, it means that you are buying the option to buy a stock if it hits a certain price. This can lead to issues, because if your bet fails, you've lost all that you've invested. Whereas if you bought actual stocks, regardless of the price, you still own that asset.Payment for order flow (PFOF) is when brokerages such as Robinhood route the buy and sell orders of retail investors to big market makers such as Citadel and Virtu instead of sending it directly to the stock market. This deal helps brokerages make hundreds of millions of dollars every year.Retail investors are individual, nonprofessional investors who are buying assets with their own money.Securities are any tradable financial asset: stock share (equities), bonds, investment funds, pensions, etc.The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) oversees securities exchanges, brokers, investment advisors, and mutual funds to create fair dealings, disclose important market information, and prevent fraud.Bildungsroman isn't relevant to our episode, but do you remember that from English class? The music video network Vevo is finding tremendous success back on the medium where music videos first began, the television set. Of course, today's sets are nothing like the TVs that were around 40 years ago when, Prince, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks and many others kicked off the MTV generation. (Yes children, MTV played music videos.) Now, with the majority of TV sets connected either natively or through a streaming product like Roku, Amazon Fire TV or Apple TV, music videos are not only poised for a triumphant return to the big screen, but advertisers appear to be “partying like it'sto sponsor and advertise around that content. We recently had a great conversation with Rob Christensen, VP Advanced TV Sales & Distribution, who is driving Vevo's connected TV efforts to get a glimpse of what the next year will bring for Vevo and what to look forward to as Vevo continues to evolve in the Media Metaverse.

The federal government recently announced that Robeson County had been reinstated to a program called equitable sharing. It allows local law enforcement agencies to use proceeds from asset forfeiture involving federal authorities. Jon Guze, John Locke Foundation director of legal studies, explains why the news is not entirely good. Guze says federal equitable sharing helps law enforcement agencies bypass worthwhile state restrictions on civil asset forfeiture abuse.
