Juano Diaz was taken in to care aged six, his mother was battling alcoholism and he wasn't being cared for. But Juano missed his mum and with no photos of her, he became obsessed by drawing her face so he wouldn't forget her. He was later adopted by a strict Catholic and Romany Gypsy family but when he came out as gay he was asked to leave. Now down-and-out on the streets of Glasgow, with his life spiralling, he started to search for his mother again. He would scan faces in the crowds, draw his own face to explore his features, feminise them to look more like his mum and soon he discovered his talent for portraiture. Today, he paints the faces of modern icons: Pharell Williams, Madonna, Vivienne Westwood. This would lead to artistic success and a very different lifestyle – including a friendship with Grace Jones and ultimately a whole new family.Juano's memoir is called Slum Boy.Presenter: Mobeen Azhar Producer: Andrea KennedyGet in touch: liveslessordinary@bbc.co.uk or WhatsApp: 0044 330 678 2784

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 24th of November, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Matthew 16:24: "Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." Then we want to go to the Gospel of John 15:13:"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." Following after Jesus is a costly business. Sometimes we lose our friends when we get serious for the Lord. We are not so popular anymore and it can be quite painful, especially if you are a young person. People are going out, partying, sleeping around, drugging, drinking, and you say, "No more for me." You will be surprised at how quickly you will lose your friends. I remember when I gave my life to the Lord as a young man. I said to the men who were following me up, I said, "There is one thing I don't want to do - I don't want to lose my old friends." They smiled and said, "Don't worry about that, Angus. You won't have to lose them, they will lose you." You see, we cannot have anything to do with darkness when we are walking in the light. It can be quite painful when people mock us for our stand for Christ. Gypsy Smith, that old Romany Gypsy who used to preach off the back of his painted wagon to crowds of up to 10,000 people at a time, said, "It takes a dead fish to flow with the current, but it takes a live one to swim against it." Remember, if your faith is costing you nothing, well then, it is worth nothing. It cost Jesus His life, didn't it? He died for you and for me. Sometimes I despair when I see how little you and I are prepared to sacrifice to stand up for our Lord. I remember a beautiful story told many years ago. A big sailing ship was sailing with people down to the South Sea Islands, and there was a lovely young family who had left their safe haven, their home, and they were on their way to one of these islands where there were cannibals. As the captain docked the ship, just off the coast, and lowered a little lifeboat for them to row to the shore, he pleaded with the family, "Don't go there because they are going to kill you." The man said to the captain, "Sir, we died before we left home." I want to tell you today, let's have a good look at our own lives and really see if we are making a difference for the Gospel and helping the lost.Have a wonderful day, Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Come and join the conversation with the gorgeous Danielle Mason! Danielle is a former glamour model, entering the industry entirely by chance following a dinner with Katie Price's (AKA Jordan) agent back in her early twenties. Having done some work experience on EastEnders, being the sister of Jessie Wallace, Danielle found herself thrust into the limelight, on Page 3 within a week of being signed and subsequently appearing on programmes such as This Morning, cooking along with Eamon and Ruth! We delve into the realities of being a model and the negative impact it can have on your confidence. Often young girls being told bluntly that they were too big, too spotty and brutally not good enough! We chat about her experiences with online trolling, legal action she had to take, and the beyond disgusting comments about her children that she had to read. Danielle has such a kind heart, talking about her experiences in such a matter of fact way, and often citing that people just don't think properly when they are on social media. We talk about the negativity surrounding the media, often misconstruing a story in order to get readers and the harsh realities of being in the public eye. Danielle tells me about how life turned in a new direction when meeting her partner, him having come from a Romany Gypsy community and they had two beautiful children. It was this situation that led her to appearing on shows such as Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Gypsy Kids, showing what life is like in the travelling community. From this part of her life she picked up a passion for cleaning tips, hacks and good housekeeping, which ignited her desire to become a presenter for all things clean! She tells me about the wonderful experiences she's had so far, during her modelling career travelling business class to shoot a calendar in Barbados and appearing on television! Danielle now hopes to take her passion for good housekeeping into TV, following her dream of landing a regular presenting role to share her knowledge, experience and cleaning hacks with others. A lovely, kind, warm hearted woman, was a pleasure to interview, I have no doubt we will see her on our screens again very soon! Watch this space! How do you create a successful business and solve the housing crisis at the same time? Well, Alfie Best has one of the most innovative answers out there at the minute. The owner of Wildcrest, which is the biggest Mobile Park operator in the UK, soon to be the world. In this interview, Mark asks Alfie, how he started out in the industry, what the mechanics of the industry are and why Alfie believes they are the answer to the housing crisis in affordable houses currently? Listen to one of the most successful business people in the UK and what his advice is on creating a successful business in 2019.   Key Takeaways Why did you get into the Mobile Park Industry? I was born and bred in a caravan as a Romani. Who better to run Mobile Parks than someone who has lived and breathed this world throughout my life. It was a natural progression for us from commercial conversions. I really believe in them, and I'm passionate about my business, I don't really see it as work.    How does the mechanics of the business work? It's not complicated the customer actually purchases the mobile home often for 50% of what the same property would be if it was classed as a house. They get a 1983 mobile home act document drafted from the government which is an infinite lease on the property. It has no end date. It's a simple but powerful document. You are in effect purchasing a bungalow at residential standards which are pre-fabricated. It's like a timbre home from the states or modular homes which you see popping in different places. They have to be built on a chassis and have wheels, but they never get moved.   How does it benefit you to have a mobile home? Once it doesn't have wheels and a chassis it becomes a house. If we have planning permission for a mobile home park then we can't build houses. It's classified as a caravan but it is never towed or moved anywhere else, it's essentially static.   We all need to find our niche. I don't regard this as a niche, we than 13,000 residents as a country and we have 5 parks in North Carolina. We are looking to expand our business in the US. Councils are still of the opinion to say no, it's not seen as a positive to support our kind of business. Sensible government is a friend often but councillors can be really difficult to work with and can go against what the government have set down.   How do you cope with working across different continents and countries? Have you found it challenging? When you start a business anywhere in the world, you have to pay an ‘idiot' tax which is about learning to run your business. I always say that you should start small so your ‘idiot' tax is a much smaller cost. When we first went to America we only bought one home. A business has to be like water, it has to flow and change but be strong enough to keep going forward.   Why is it that mobile home parks are the answer to affordable housing? It's very simple. The government are trying to build their way out through social housing. As there is no cap on it and they have to compete on the open market it's never going to solve the problem. We don't offer houses for key workers like ambulance staff for example. Properties should only be able to be sold to key workers in key sectors. Whereas park homes only ever stay as affordable housing, always at 50% less than a house even when the price goes up it's always comparatively cheaper. That's because there is a stigma to it.   Most of our customers are downsizing. A lot of our customers are buying a mobile home and then buying a second home in Spain or the US. Houses don't have to be a ball and chain around their neck, it allows people freedom in older age. We are trying to lobby the government to explain this. There are some great councils and are some terrible councils.   We are bringing people who are semi-retired or retired people to an area. So we are actually bringing other families as well. We are helping social housing as well as contributing to communities. I hate the word social housing but I think of it as affordable housing.   What have been your biggest setbacks in business? The biggest set back was not questioning myself too much when I nearly went bust. Broke means that you are in negative equity, and verging on either going bankrupt which is where I found myself. I had a house with too big a mortgage invested in it. My biggest mistake was I didn't see the recession coming because I wasn't experienced enough. I thought I was better than I was.   How have you changed this ready for the next recession? We have stopped looking at profit and concentrated on cash flow. My board loves talking about profit, but I focus on cash flow. The cash flow could be in the red but your profits look great. It's a balancing act. Making sure your business is sweating, and your wastage at minimum is essential. That could be down to the water bottles in the corner of your building.   How do you innovate? What do you do to get better incrementally? We regularly buy business which has gone into administration. Firstly, we set up a rudimentary cash flow system to see where the business is, see how much in the red they are. See what there is that is needed and what is extra. You have to be harsh, and be commercially viable when turning around a business. Then as you get bigger we constantly review what we are doing.   Best Moments ‘I don't see my business as work, it's a passion.' ‘The 1983 mobile home document is simple but powerful.' 'They are referred to as park-home bungalows.' ‘This is the real solution to an affordable housing crisis.' “It's harder to get planning to build mobile homes than building a house in the states.' ‘It's always an affordable model for housing.' ‘I usually find I make the most money in those quirks.' ‘This country are selling ourselves short.' ‘I love to see people trying to make a success.' ‘It takes a special person to start a business.' ‘Be brave when everyone else is going away.' ‘Residents at mobile parks can be like winning the lottery.' ‘We want to invest where we are welcomed and where we are making a difference.' ‘The biggest set back was not questioning myself too much when I nearly went bust.' ‘Every pound is a prisoner.' ‘If a business is not commercially viable you will hurt a lot of people.'   ABOUT THE HOST Mark Homer Mark Homer is an entrepreneur investor.  He has worked with investment since he was 15 years old using the laws of wealth! Judy Carroll is an extraterrestrial contact, she has had contact her whole life and she joined me to distinguish the types of contact people are having, she says there are Milab made greys which are controlled by the cabal and a group of reptillians she calls the repterrans, vs the people who are having contact with what she calls the good greys who are teaching people about their telepathic and psychic abilities and also healing abilities. About Judy: Judy Carroll was born in Queensland, Australia in 1952. Her family back- ground is Creole (South American/Spanish), English and Romany (Gypsy). She left school to pursue a career as a professional Flamenco Dancer, following in the foot- steps of her Grandmother, who was a dancer and clairvoyant medium in the Romany tradition. Judy feels that this background has helped her to assimilate the encounters she's had with Grey ETs since early childhood. Sixty years of these ongoing and at times fully-conscious encounters has given her a deep insight into this phenomenon which is happening to many thousands of people world-wide. Being born into a Romany family has also given her insight into “being different” among fellow humans and its effect on the psyche. #GrayAlien #extraterrestrial #ufo #mufon #podcast #zeta #Disclosure --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/typical-skeptic/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/typical-skeptic/support

Judy left high school at 15 to pursue a career as a professional flamenco dancer, following in the footsteps of her grandmother. During a 1983 encounter with ETs, she was instructed to study Reiki. She spent several years as a practitioner before completing the master level, which qualified her to teach. She also teaches Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Judy's lifelong encounters with Greys, or Zetas, have given her deep insight into the field of ET/Human con- tact. At 30 she had a fully conscious daytime encounter in which she recognized the visitors as "family." In 1995, during an encounter at a sacred site in England, the visitors asked Judy to write two books, one about her contact experience and the other about sharing the Zetas' perspective of Earth human reality. Human by Day, Zeta by Night is the story of the Greys and their connection to us. In 2000 she "coincidentally" met Helene Kaye, with whom she co-authored The Zeta Message. Judy also wrote Looking Through Eyes of Love and Looking Through Eyes of Wisdom.******************************************************************To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv*** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewpaper.com

Today's guest, joining us today on the Join Up Dots entrepreneur podcast interview is Alfie Best, a man who has made a huge success of finding the potential in areas he has knowledge in and then working really hard to make it all come together. He is a successful entrepreneur driven by tenacity. With humble origins, born and raised in a Romany Gypsy family, this self-made man studied at “University of Life” and started his professional path totally from scratch. However, coming from a poor background and a minority group only gave him even more desire to succeed. As a gypsy, he had to face many obstacles and prejudices but he has never allowed those to ruin his dreams and ambitions or to disrupt his investments into the businesses he operates. Instead, he has taken those negative prejudices and turned them into positives by surrounding himself with a diverse and multicultural team. As he says "My philosophy for good business is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration; my sole focus is to drive the businesses forward without losing sight of the goal. Park homes were my upbringing so it was a natural progression to purchase a mobile home park; from 1 park to more than 40, Wyldecrest Parks has now become the No.1 Park Home Operator in the UK for the retired and semi-retired wishing to enjoy the quiet life and community spirit.  And when it  comes to seeing the potential in an idea, Alfie Best has a very up and positive outlook for sure.  "In my view" he says "there is no such thing as a bad idea, just the ability to drive it forward with a realistic approach." So if there is no such thing as a bad idea, why do so many people fail when it comes to starting a business? And if he looks back at his life has he learnt more from the knocks he has endured or from the  Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Alfie Best Show Highlights During the entrepreneur podcast show we had deep hitting conversations with Alfie Best around subjects such as: Alfie shares how the competition inspires him everyday to raise his own standards and that of his team. Answers to the Questions YOU are Asking about Property! At the 10k Property Super Conference, Kevin McDonnell sat down with Alfie Best who has a multi-million-pound property business in the UK. Together they answered questions from listeners about all things property. If you want to hear inspirational and informative answers to the questions people are really asking then listen in now.   KEY TAKEAWAYS What is the number 1 criteria when deciding whether to invest in property? Know your area, know the property you are buying and start with the end in mind, how am I going to make money out of it? In the face of adversity, what keeps you going? Fear of failure is a powerful driver and to every problem, there is a solution it might not be the solution you want but there is a solution. If you don't take a risk you are never going to realise your potential or learn. What are your hacks and tricks when buying a deal? There is a model to be followed and if a deal ticks the boxes the next consideration is gut instinct about what else you can add to increase the value. What's the best thing currently in your life? Family is always at the heart of everything and in business, it's seeing long term goals come to fruition. What's the best advice for someone just starting a business? Do it, don't waste time get on with it but don't do it half-heartedly get both feet in and get started. What is the best form of marketing in property? Sublime marketing is the best – it's about not selling a property to someone you just whet their appetite enough to get them interested and the more you are not selling it the more they will want it. What the scariest thing that's ever happened, in business or property? Living with yourself when perceiving yourself as a failure is scary and I overcame with perseverance. I followed through, I adapted and changed the business plan to continue to move forward When you are massively stressed and overwhelmed what hacks do you have to overcome it? In a stressful situation take your time to find the right solution If you panic you make the fear worse and potentially make wrong choices. As soon as you own and step up to your choices you can put them behind you, learn from them and move on. Do you think Brexit will have an effect on rental prices? It's about supply and demand, we are 66 million people on a small island with a predicted increase of 8 million over the next 10 years and people need places to live. What is the defining trait that has made you successful? It's about persistence, success is all in the mind everyone defines success differently. There are always people who are further up the ladder of success and they provide inspiration for others to persevere and keep moving forward.   BEST MOMENTS ‘I genuinely thought I started perfect I only realised later that I didn't' ‘I realised that I was never going to get myself out of debt working in a job' ‘By changing your model, you are actually showing your business is successful the more a business adapts, the more successful it will become' ‘Keep checking your goals and seeing where you are at, you don't realise how far you can come in 3 or 4 years'   VALUABLE RESOURCES No Money Down: Property Investing book by Kevin McDonnell   ABOUT THE GUEST Alfie Best a highly motivated business magnate, investor, speaker and philanthropist who serves as the chairman of Wyldecrest Parks. I really believe in them, and I’m passionate about my business, I don’t really see it as work.    How does the mechanics of the business work? It’s not complicated the customer actually purchases the mobile home often for 50% of what the same property would be if it was classed as a house. They get a 1983 mobile home act document drafted from the government which is an infinite lease on the property. It has no end date. It’s a simple but powerful document. You are in effect purchasing a bungalow at residential standards which are pre-fabricated. It’s like a timbre home from the states or modular homes which you see popping in different places. They have to be built on a chassis and have wheels, but they never get moved.   How does it benefit you to have a mobile home? Once it doesn’t have wheels and a chassis it becomes a house. If we have planning permission for a mobile home park then we can’t build houses. It’s classified as a caravan but it is never towed or moved anywhere else, it’s essentially static.   We all need to find our niche. I don’t regard this as a niche, we than 13,000 residents as a country and we have 5 parks in North Carolina. When you start a business anywhere in the world, you have to pay an ‘idiot’ tax which is about learning to run your business. I always say that you should start small so your ‘idiot’ tax is a much smaller cost. When we first went to America we only bought one home. A business has to be like water, it has to flow and change but be strong enough to keep going forward.   Why is it that mobile home parks are the answer to affordable housing? It’s very simple. The government are trying to build their way out through social housing. As there is no cap on it and they have to compete on the open market it’s never going to solve the problem. We don’t offer houses for key workers like ambulance staff for example. Properties should only be able to be sold to key workers in key sectors. Whereas park homes only ever stay as affordable housing, always at 50% less than a house even when the price goes up it's always comparatively cheaper. That’s because there is a stigma to it.   Most of our customers are downsizing. A lot of our customers are buying a mobile home and then buying a second home in Spain or the US. Houses don’t have to be a ball and chain around their neck, it allows people freedom in older age. My biggest mistake was I didn’t see the recession coming because I wasn’t experienced enough. I thought I was better than I was.   How have you changed this ready for the next recession? We have stopped looking at profit and concentrated on cash flow. My board loves talking about profit, but I focus on cash flow. The cash flow could be in the red but your profits look great. It’s a balancing act. Best Moments ‘I don’t see my business as work, it’s a passion.’ ‘The 1983 mobile home document is simple but powerful.’ 'They are referred to as park-home bungalows.’ ‘This is the real solution to an affordable housing crisis.’ “It’s harder to get planning to build mobile homes than building a house in the states.’ ‘It’s always an affordable model for housing.’ ‘I usually find I make the most money in those quirks.’ ‘This country are selling ourselves short.’ ‘I love to see people trying to make a success.’ ‘It takes a special person to start a business.’ ‘Be brave when everyone else is going away.’ ‘Residents at mobile parks can be like winning the lottery.’ ‘We want to invest where we are welcomed and where we are making a difference.’ ‘The biggest set back was not questioning myself too much when I nearly went bust.’ ‘Every pound is a prisoner.’ ‘If a business is not commercially viable you will hurt a lot of people.'   ABOUT THE HOST Mark Homer Mark Homer is an entrepreneur investor.  He has worked with investment since he was 15 years old using the laws of wealth! How did it feel to survive the days of near-total blackout in Caracas? The BBC's Will Grant reports on what drove people to loot beloved local shops, or scoop water from filthy canals. Kate Adie introduces this story and others from around the world. Across Europe, relations between Romany Gypsy or Traveller families and their neighbours are often strained. Successive governments in France have cracked down on informal settlements of Roma people from Romania, and left French 'gens de voyage' feeling unwanted and marginalised. But near Carcassonne, Chris Bockman met one man with a plan to improve community relations. Mark Stratton explores a wealth gap in the Indian Ocean: the yawning difference in living standards between the Comoros and the French island of Mayotte, which has driven thousands of Comorans to risk their lives on a dangerous sea crossing in the hope of earning more and maybe gaining entry to the EU. The ancient kingdom of Dahomey, in modern-day Benin, was renowned for its martial prowess - from its fearsome battle banners to its brigades of all-female royal bodyguards, this was a culture well versed in war. Clodagh Kinsella plumbed the mysteries of its modern dynastic politics recently, watching three kings vie to inherit a supreme title. And Claire Bates explores the eerily deserted and well-preserved buffer zone separating Greek and Turkish communities in Cyprus - to try and tap into some of her father's childhood memories of growing up on an undivided island.

Welcome back to another episode of The Disruptive Entrepreneur podcast with your host Rob Moore. In this latest episode, Rob interviews Chairman of Wyldecrest Parks, business magnate, investor and philanthropist, Alfie Best. Their conversation goes from Alfie's humble routes knocking on doors, to being a multi-millionaire owner of the biggest mobile home country business in the world. Are entrepreneurs born or made? and what's the difference between being a boss and a leader, find out more by listening to this fascinating interview.   Key Takeaways Do You Think Being Born On The Side of The Road Has Shaped The Way You Do Business? No, the place where you are born is not important, it's the journey that is important. I don't see myself as an entrepreneur I see myself as an artist, and I'm painting a picture of my life with the business. Are Entrepreneurs born or made? The word entrepreneur is banded around way too much, and we use the word but we don't have an understanding of what it means. Are they people who can operate across different sectors and fields? Entrepreneurs are successful in not just one field but in different fields. If you're successful at one thing you're a businessman and if you are successful across different fields, you an entrepreneur. For all the success you have, it's only temporary and it can change in the future. We can all teach yourself to become more, but entrepreneurs are natural risk takers, calculated risk takers. In some people that is sparks and in other it might bonfires, but everyone has something. Can That Be A Curse That You Never Quite Make It? I live in fear. I'm always worried about tomorrow. In the next 18 months, I will take Wylecrest to the market, and I believe that we are groundbreaking in a series of areas. We are the ones setting the bar. That's the difference between a hobby and a business, business is going to make you money not cost you money. Why Do You Fear Tomorrow? I live in the real world where changes can happen without any warning. I've been scarred by the 1990 recession which hit the business hard. How Do You Let The Fear Drive You Or Cripple You? My fears push me because it drives me to get up early in the morning and enjoy my work. Life doesn't mould you, life cuts pieces out of you. Are you going to end up masterpiece or misshapen person? It's the fear of failure and fear of going bust which drives me going forward? How Did You Develop That Mindset? I try to simplify things. There are winners and losers and both are successful. One is just more successful than the other. To win you have to unravel the puzzle of how that other boxer, a player person plays. What's The Difference Between A Boss and A Leader? A leader fights with you rather than telling you what to do. I guess the journey is moving from a boss to a leader. Often in interviews, people will say that the team is the most important thing. All of your team should know what your goals are for the business. We start with a yes, for every resident, the residents might not like how we get to the yes but we will explain the process. What Was Your Journey Into Business? Financially we were not rich but as a child, we did have a rich childhood. I went to school periodically through this period and went through some difficult times selling door to door. In this period I realised how important it is to know your market.  That recession scars still lives with me today. I looked for businesses that had queues which were Phone shops and Takeaways so I set up my own phone shop which ended up getting sold to Vodaphone. I still own those shops that Vodaphone use today. Traditional education vs teaching yourself? Education gives you the guiding rails. If you think of education as trains the best is the fast train on the tracks whereas the slower trains are being self-taught. I was self-taught. Self-education made me hustler street trader, it added to my education. You have to have both. What is your outlook on Business? Business is the soul of any country, if you want your skin to blossom you have to eat the right food, we need to nurture business more. We need to stop promising what we are going to and teach what we are going to do. Smart Work or Hard Work? Always work smartly but work hard at it. Money makes you happy because it buys you freedom. What Does Disruptive Mean To You? To me is ruffling the feathers of the norm, which I see as a good thing. Best Moments ‘If you're successful at one thing you're a businessman and if you are successful across different fields you an entrepreneur.' ‘Taking the knocks and treating them rather than a downside it's an education' ‘I'm not in the business of commercial hobbies.' ‘A problem is only a problem if you don't find a solution.' ‘Keeping things simple, makes everything simple.' ‘All entrepreneurs are calculated gamblers.' ‘Everybody has a success gene.' ‘Entrepreneurs make terrible managers, and managers make terrible entrepreneurs.' ‘All your team should know your goals for the business.' ‘Have to', is a great master.' ‘There are so many opportunities in the UK from foreign investment.' ‘Easiest thing to get rid of is money, the easiest thing is to gain money.'
