This week, I felt led by the Spirit to press record during my weekly discipleship withLee James. On Monday morning in prayer, the Lord highlightedsin to me, and with curiosity I knew I wanted to study it more. I texted Lee—who has been a Spiritual Father in my life—requesting we dive into sin, transgression, and iniquity that week (today). But as always, the Holy Spirit took us even further.I decided to include the opening portion where Lee, led by the Spirit, spoke a fresh and timely word specifically for me in this season. I pray thisraw, real-time discipleship blesses you as much as it did me.At the end of the day, we're all in process. Even as a four-year businesswoman (officially five this fall!),I'm still being shaped by the Lord. This episode is a glimpse into that journey.Tune in and let's grow together. Pastor Caleb Schnurr continues his series on The Gospel of John in the Sunday Morning Service on January 5, 2025. In this sermon, we look into a confrontation between Jesus and the religious leaders, where the question “Who's your father?” takes on profound spiritual significance. Jesus challenges their understanding of spiritual lineage and reveals the difference between those who are children of God and those who follow the ways of the devil. Join us as we explore what it truly means to be a child of God and how our actions reveal our Spiritual Father.

The story of how Gerondissa Makrina become a beacon of Orthodox life in Greece under the guidance of St. Joseph the Hesychast. Gerondissa's nuns later helped start many monasteries in America and Canada under the leadership of Geronda Ephraim of Arizona. In turn, these monasteries sent nuns to North America who established new monasteries with the ideals of traditional Orthodox monasticism. Something similar happened when Gerondissa Makrina became gravely ill and was coughing up blood. We didn't have a telephone to inform him about it. But in our next letter to him, we concealed her illness from him because we didn't want to upset him and interrupt his prayer. But then he sent us a letter and said: "My little children, why didn't you write to me that Gerondissa is I and is suffering, so that we could pray for her? You made a big mistake thinking that this would interrupt my prayer. When Father Arsenios and I were praying last night, we noetically saw that she was seriously ill, and we prayed hard for her. My children, I want you to inform me about Whatever is happening with the monastery and especialy with Gerondissa. Write me about it." St. Joseph wrote the sisters: “So submit yourselves to Maria, who is trying to benelt you, and all of us here are praying that the Lord will hep you and make you worthy of eternal life.” _______ Orthodox Wisdom is dedicated to sharing the writings and lives of the Saints of the Orthodox Church. When Elijah informs Elisha that the LORD is going to take him up to heaven, Elisha refuses to leave his side. He even turns down the offer to stay behind, insisting on accompanying Elijah until his final moment.

In this enlightening message, Brother Singh addresses three primary fathers: our Heavenly Father, our Spiritual Father, and our earthly or Biological Father. John's gospel describes the perfect father-son relationship: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son."

Today, Michael Acock speaks in the first message of a 10-week series as we walk through the book of Philippians. Today is an overview of the series and we look at Paul's relationship to the church in Philippi as a spiritual father. In Philippians, Paul is inviting us to: 1. Consider God's activities and purposes in creation and salvation. 2. Reflect on God's calling in our own lives. 3. Embrace a mindset that privileges others above ourselves. This letter, the book of Philippians, includes the themes of Christ as at once humble Lord and supreme paradigm of Christian life; of unity in Christ that overcomes the forces of dissension; of a readiness to suffer for the sake of the gospel that does not rob us of joy in Christ; of the radical difference between a righteousness of our own and a righteousness from God; and of a life of thanksgiving in mutual giving and receiving. We hope this message encourages you and helps you know Jesus in a more real way. You can find the full sermon notes and other resources at our website. In one cohesive whole, all Christians are saved by God's gift of Christ's righteousness. We look to the reading of God's word if you join me in prayer. Most gracious God, our heavenly Father, it is in you alone dwells the fullness of light and wisdom. And we ask them that by your Holy Spirit that you would continue to enlighten our minds to understand your word. That you would give us grace to receive it reverently and humbly. And

Foundational to any spiritual life is to have an experienced guide. St. Paisios offers answers to various questions regarding this essential aspect of Orthodox spiritual life: finding an experienced spiritual father and being healed by love and obedience. 0:00 Beginning 0:14 The Spiritual Life Requires a Spiritual Guide 2:29 Refer People to a Spiritual Father 5:38 A Spiritual Father Must Be Nearby 7:48 The Spiritual Father in the Family This is a reading from "Spiritual Struggle: Saint Paisios the Athonite, Spiritual Counsels (Vol. III)", pp. 277-282. -BUY "Spiritual Struggle: Saint Paisios the Athonite, Spiritual Counsels (Vol. III)": https://www.holycross.org/products/spiritual-struggle-elder-paisios -FIND an Orthodox parish and monastery near you: https://orthodoxyinamerica.org/ _______ St. Paisios teaches: The most necessary thing today is for people to find a Spiritual Father, to confess, trust him and follow his advice. If people have a spiritual guide and establish a rule of prayer and study, if they go to Church on a regular basis and receive Holy Communion, then they have nothing to fear in this life. The soul must be attended to closely by the Spiritual Father so that it does not go astray. Spiritual study certainly helps in our struggle for the spiritual life, but if we are without a spiritual guide, we can easily give our own interpretations to what is being studied and fall into error. For example, when someone is going on a long trip and is not certain of the way, he can consult the map but he can also stop and ask for directions. Of course, one should choose his spiritual guide carefully and not entrust his soul to just anyone. Just as one seeks the best doctor for his physical health, he should also seek out a good Spiritual Father for his spiritual health, and go to him, the doctor of his soul, on a regular basis. Just as one takes care to have his family doctor available as nearby as possible, he should also have his Spiritual Father near him. _______ Orthodox Wisdom is dedicated to sharing the writings and lives of the Saints of the Orthodox Church. Tall swooning bamboo, the smoke of clove cigarettes, and classical piano. If you've taken a walk on the near westside of Bloomington in the last many decades, you may have had this sensory experience as you knowingly or unknowingly passed the home of our guest, Simeon Rodgers. Having made his way from a farm in the middle of Indiana to the prestigious Indiana University Music in the 1960s, Simeon established a home here and earned a degree. He also made donuts to keep a roof over his daughters' heads and started a career in rolfing, an intense form of bodywork that involves manipulating deep tissue. Along the way, your hosts talk about fear of highways, Spanish beaches, Nine Inch Nails, spiritual godfathers, weeding gardens, eating pies at Spring Mill State Park, conflicts on rooftops, and, most importantly, being lil bitches. In this episode, Chris incorrectly guessed that David Letterman interviewed Kenny Aranoff about rolfing, and Josh called Scott his uncle. He's actually his cousin, so fuck you! Chris wrote this song for Simeon back in the day. Some of the references should be familiar, bitch. BIG NEWS: WE HAVE MERCH! Designed by Chris Mott and sponsored by badknees. Check it out!
