On your marks, get set, go! In this episode of 90s Disney, AJ, Mike, and Chris are racing through the magical history of runDisney, Disney's official long-distance running series. Chris takes the lead with a look back at how Disney's first road races began in the 1980s with "Jog with Jiminy," evolved into the Disney Endurance Series, and finally transformed into the runDisney events we know today. From humble beginnings to marathons through the theme parks, we explore how these events reshaped the Disney calendar, filled hotel rooms in the off-season, and inspired thousands of costumed runners to race for the medals, the memories—and the merch.Plus, we hear all about Chris's firsthand experience running the Star Wars Half Marathon, complete with 4 AM start times, stormtrooper photo ops, and the joys and hazards of a 13.1-mile journey through Disney property. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or a seasoned churro fan, this episode is your victory lap.Topics CoveredThe origins of runDisney: Jog with Jiminy and the Disney Endurance SeriesThe first Walt Disney World Marathon in 1994Why Disney World is uniquely suited for racing eventsThemed races: Princess, Star Wars, Castaway Cay, Dopey Challenge, and moreThe short-lived Disneyland Marathon and its infamous wrong turnrunDisney today: massive scale, high demand, and big medalsChris's personal Star Wars Half Marathon experienceAJ and Mike's aspirations (and hesitations) to get on the courseBalloon ladies, cosplay runners, and surprise rides along the wayFollow UsBlueSkyTwitter/XFacebookThreadsInstagram

In the 107th episode of Keep Moving Forward I recap my weekend in Walt Disney World and my running of the Star Wars Dark Side Half-Marathon. “Do or do not. There is no try.” I had a fear of running and competing again before I began my first half-marathon, because it is so easy to get swept up in it and revert back to my old mentality: putting every ounce of who I was into sports only to have my identity stripped away when my organized athletic career came to a close. But I realized, when forcing myself to slow down and take in every aspect of this Disney race, not allowing myself to get caught up in the competition and how to beat the person next me, just wanting to remember this experience, it helped to clear my head and appreciate the opportunity I am given to run. Because that’s what it is: an opportunity. The ability I have to put one foot in front of the other is a gift, and I never want to take that for granted. It’s easy to get caught up in the planning, the goal-setting, the process to achievement, that I often forget to live in the moment. It dawned on me that sometimes, I just have to slow down enough to watch the sunrise. Thank you for listening in, I hope that you enjoyed this episode. This week, Team Mousetalgia offers a RunDisney primer and a report on Disneyland's Star Wars Light Side Half Marathon Weekend. Dave and Becky talk about why Star Wars is a good race weekend for beginners to start with, and they discuss the 2017 events and race courses. We also discuss Disneyland's current security situation, spiked Dole Whips, and the RunDisney Expo. Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Tim was at Disneyland last weekend for the Star Wars Half Marathon and finished the 13.1-mile course in just under two hours and eleven minutes on a sore left foot. Nick Arciniaga, the overall winner of the event, finished in about half that time. Sore foot. Yeah, that's his excuse. The weekend also gave Tim some time to finally explore the Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland, which he somehow managed to miss since it opened a couple months ago. It's a fun exhibit full of ship models, prop replicas and costumes, not to mention meet-and-greets with Chewbacca and Darth Vader. The Launch Bay has received some criticism for not being quite "WOW!" enough for Disneyland, but Tim thinks it accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do: engage Star Wars fans with some real live stuff they can see and interact with until Star Wars Land finally makes its debut at the park, we hope, in 2018. Here's what else Tim and Anthony have going on in this week's episode of Inside The Mouse Castle: Oscar nominations were announced last week and films under the Disney umbrella fared well, although there were a few disappointments. Neither Star Wars: The Force Awakens nor Inside Out landed Best Picture nominations. Star Wars was recognized with five noms in mostly technical categories, while Inside Out landed nominations for Best Animated Feature and Original Screenplay. Sanjay's Super Team was nominated for Best Animated Short Film while Cinderella did likewise for Costume Design. The Oscars will air on February 28 on ABC. Bob Weis is the new president of Walt Disney Imagineering. He's been heading up the Shanghai Disney Resort project (which we now know is opening June 16) and was creative lead for the Disney California Adventure expansion and the original Disney/MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios). The Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show will end at Disney's Hollywood Studios on April 2 to make way for the upcoming Star Wars and Toy Story expansions at the park. Inside The Mouse Castle sends its condolences to the family and friends of former Disney Channel star Michael Galeota and actor Brian Bedford. Galeota passed away January 10 at age 31. Bedford, a respected stage and screen actor who voiced the title role in Disney's animated Robin Hood, died at the age of 80 on January 13. It's hard to believe, but Disney's High School Musical is ten years old. The Disney Channel celebrated with an anniversary special this week featuring the original cast. Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
The Force is strong with us Inside The Mouse Castle this week. Just about every story Tim and Anthony bandy about has some connection to Star Wars. This wasn't by design. It's just how the news stream happens sometimes. We like it. Tim starts with his first impressions of Disney Infinity 3.0 and the Star Wars play set that comes with it: Twilight of the Republic. With the help of Tim's grandkids, they gave it a good run over the weekend. The kids loved it. Tim liked the look of TOTR--and certainly felt the Star Wars characters are welcome--but he couldn't help but feel this was just more of the same from Disney Infinity. Quest, destroy bad guys, rinse, repeat. Here's what else we've got on today's show. It's more fun than shooting womp rats in Beggar's Canyon: How many box office records will Star Wars: The Force Awakens break after it opens on December 18th? We're pretty sure its opening weekend number are going to be through the roof. Industry analysts are predicting a $615 million opening--the biggest ever. It's certain to be bolstered by a huge presence on IMAX screens around the world. To make way for Star Wars Land at Disneyland, Big Thunder Ranch will close its gates on January 11, 2016. The ranch's petting zoo will close on January 10th. Disneyland has a Star Wars Half Marathon event in January. Next April, Walt Disney World will get one as well. Star Wars Half Marathon - The Dark Side will be held April 14-17, 2016. The event will include half-marathon, 10K and 5K races. Registration at runDisney.com starts September 22nd. On Sunday, Tim is running his first half-marathon ever--at Disneyland, of course. The Disneyland Half-Marathon Weekend starts this Thursday. Will you be there? Look for Tim in his usual Mouse Castle garb. Ready for a global unboxing of Star Wars toys on YouTube? Yeah, we're not sure what to make of it either. But visit the Star Wars YouTube channel this Thursday for a preview of merchandise from Star Wars: The Force Awakens--much of which will start appearing in stores September 4th, dubbed "Force Friday." (Note: On ITMC, we got our dates confused. The worldwide online unboxing begins on September 3rd. The products will launch on September 4th). Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen is reported to be in talks to join the cast of Marvel's Doctor Strange. With Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor already on board, this is going to be one star-studded MCU installment. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.com
Mr. Daps, Annie, Diplomatic Danie and Murray the Bellhop talk about the recent runDisney event: The Star Wars Half Marathon. Some tips are shared on going for one of the Disney races. Then a discussion on movies, especially Star Wars and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Finally, a fun talk on Galavant ends the Dapscast.
This week, we run to a galaxy far, far away to talk about Disneyland's recent Star Wars Half Marathon weekend. With Dave or Becky participating in each race, we have a full report on the goings on, the galactic hoohah, the out-of-this-world costumes, and the too-few character photo opportunities. Was this a good start for the Star Wars races, or did it miss the Hammill -er, the mark? Also, Disneyland Resort freezes over as tarps go up and the parks prepare for their 60th anniversary upgrades. Becky reports on all of the Frozen fun, including sledding, singing with the sisters, and sketching snowmen. We review the Frozen stage shows, and wonder how much Frozen is just enough. Finally, as rumored earlier on Micechat, it appears that something strange is afoot in the Haunted Mansion's attic, and we discuss the possible meaning of the new alterations to the ride. Might the infamous Hat Box Ghost be readying himself to make his gory-ous return? We speculate, and have Haunted Mansion expert Dan Olson on the show to tell the story of the original Hat Box Ghost, which he was lucky enough to witness firsthand back in 1969. Plus - what to do about the Measels outbreak, and pro tips about meeting Olaf.
This time, Shawn and Carmelle report on three very different adventures. First, they take us to Banning, CA for the inaugural Arcade Expo. Next, we travel to Anaheim for the newest run Disney event, the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend. Lastly, they go tiki as they recap Theme Park Adventure’s January mixer at Don the […]

Mousetalgia goes Into the woods to discuss the latest film from Walt Disney Pictures. Kristen, a long-time Sondheim enthusiast and performer, offers her take on the show's merits and musings, while Jeff questions the message underneath the music. Is this movie a good match for the Disney catalog? Next, Becky talks about a lecture given by Bobette Buster, a professor, screenwriter and story consultant who has worked for Disney and Pixar. Buster discusses storytelling and the "arc of transformation," using examples from Star Wars, Toy Story 2 and other Disney properties as demonstrations of storytelling that builds bridges between people and encourages spiritual and mental growth. Next, Jeff Kurtti speaks about Walt Disney and America's National Parks at the Presidio, and Jeff reports from the event. Kurtti describes Disney's long history of involving nature in his work, and demonstrates Walt's consistent passion for bringing the outdoors into his projects while maintaining inventive, compelling entertainment. Finally, the team discusses Agent Carter, and speculate about the show's impact. Plus - it's Star Wars Half Marathon week, and we look forward to some incredible costumes, and offer suggestions to runners who don't yet have a plan!
