Hoofdrolspeelster Anaita Well Zada is zelf gevlucht uit Afghanistan in 2021. Mahmood Schricker studeerde etnomusicologie in York. Hij maakte inmiddels ook een paar soloplaten waarin hij een cross over tussen oost en west laat horen.

About Donya Ball Dr. Donya Ball is a leader, author, and national keynote speaker. She currently serves as a superintendent of schools in California and, for over two decades, has been a change-maker in public education. Dr. Ball is a professor of both educational administration and teacher education. She is passionate about studying, writing, and speaking on overcoming leadership hardships. Her first book of the leadership series, Adjusting the Sails: Weathering the Storms of Administrative Leadership, was published in 2022. Her second book, Against the Wind: Leadership at 36,000 Feet will be released this January. What You'll Find in this Episode with Donya Ball Donya starts with a story about her experiences working through various positions and the fact that we tend to talk a lot about “the stuff,” but there isn't enough “real talk” in books. She wanted her work to get to the real talk. We call that “real talk for real leaders.” Listen to Donya's thoughts on why we're so reactionary in educational leadership. She has unique ideas about writing and conveying her message, particularly how she combines her love for reality TV and what needs to be in books for school leaders. One “sail” we talked about adjusting is the negative reviews in books. Joe tells the story of how TheSchoolHouse302 was born because it relates to Donya's take about the need for “real talk.” One inspiration for her book is the need to discuss career rejection; it happens, but not enough of us are actually talking about it. Don't miss her story about her dad who was born in Iran and how he had to establish a new life. We all need to become fighters! Donya talks about the need for branding…our perception of ourselves is not always in alignment with the public perception of us. Listen to her describe how branding is an obstacle and how we need to do an assessment of our social media accounts. What message are we sending to our school community? Donya says that we need to embrace the crises when they occur, not shield ourselves and others from them. Don't miss her analogy for the three types of leadership strategies with social media. Dismissive Passive Engaged Donya tells us to follow Roni Habib at eqschools.com for inspiration and aspiration in the space of leadership and personal well-being. Great leaders ask this question daily: “Are my people taken care of?” This transcends resources, facilities, pay, etc. She wants to know if those she leads truly feel taken care of. Don't miss what she says about “raw, authentic, heartfelt conversations.” Donya wants to master the art of patience. Joe says that TJ is not a person to ask for help in this area. She talked about growing as a leader and why it's imperative to surround yourself with people who are different from you--political leaders, community leaders, thought leaders in various fields. She delivered a great call-to-action: We need to get outside of our comfort zones when it comes to bringing people into our circle. She recommends Blindspots: Hidden Biases of Good People for school leaders who want to uncover their own biases and move past them. Donya admits that she used to think about short-term results and getting quick wins on accountability metrics, but she's shifting her thinking to more long-term approaches to teaching, learning, and leading that have a lasting impact on the world. Fremont is home to the largest Afghan population in the United States, with over 66,000 people of Afghan descent in the city according to 2019 census figures. That number has likely grown since the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country as tens of thousands fled Taliban rule. In his new feature film ‘Fremont,' director Babak Jalali tells the story of a refugee and former translator for the U.S. military who recently settled in the Bay Area after fleeing her home. Donya struggles with guilt, insomnia and questions of what to do with her new life. We'll talk about the film, the limits of a community's ability to heal and how to move on from a traumatic past. Guests: Joseph Azam, board chair, Afghan-American Foundation - a non-partisan non-profit focused on advocating on behalf of Afghan American community Babak Jalali, director and co-writer, "Fremont" Anaita Wali Zada, actor, "Fremont" Eddie Tang, actor, "Fremont"
In Babak Jalali's playfully eccentric FREMONT focuses on a beautiful and troubled 20-something Donya, an Afghan translator who used to work with the U.S. government and now has trouble sleeping. Each morning Donya (Anaita Wali Zada) leaves her tight-knit community of Afghan immigrants in Fremont, California. She crosses the Bay to work at a family-run fortune cookie factory in San Francisco. Donya drifts through her routine, struggling to connect with the culture and people of her new, unfamiliar surroundings while processing complicated feelings about her past as a translator for the U.S. government in Afghanistan. Unable to sleep, she finagles her way into a regular slot with a therapist (Gregg Turkington) who grasps for prospective role models. When an unexpected promotion at work thrusts Donya into the position to write her own story, she communicates her loneliness and longing through a concise medium: the fortunes inside each cookie. Donya's koans travel, making a humble social impact and expanding her world far beyond Fremont and her turbulent past, including an encounter with a quiet auto mechanic (Jeremy Allen White) who could stand to see his own world expanded. Tenderly sculpted and lyrically shot in black-and-white, Babak Jalali's FREMONT is a wry, deadpan vision of the universal longing for home. Babak joins us for a conversation on the moment he knew that casting an unknown actor, Anaita Wali Zada as Donya, his instinctual decision, in collaboration with cinematographer Laura Valladao would work, the calming effect of Gregg Turkington, and the joy he derived from his time spent in the Afghan community of Fremont, California. The Creator Hub podcast is joined this week by Kashif, film and tv director, Co-founder of Donya and Muslims in Media. In his younger years, Kashif would make stop-motion shorts featuring all of his toys and be in awe of the impact that tv and media had on his point of view. That same intrigue in creating films and telling stories only grew as he got older. Around 2016, Donya production company was born with the mission of centering marginalized peoples' stories. Kashif wanted to flip the script on the usual trauma-filled experiences of people of color that are shown and portray a more diverse range of emotions and journeys. Previously he worked as a video editor, then feature visual FX designer in the industry until he took a sabbatical that led him to watch Hasan Minaj's comedy set in New York City. For the first time, Kashif felt connected to the show through Minaj's cultural references and directness, and he wrote a positive review on Medium. Fast forward to the start of Donya and creating film content and media, Kashif tried his hand at producing live events – some of which were Minaj's 2017 Vancouver Tour and 2021 Kings Gesture comedy special. Film Creator to TikTok Creator While Kashif is very attuned to directing movies and commercials, he (like many other professionals may feel) was most intimidated by the TikTok app itself. He had been making shorts before YouTube even started, and over the years has come to learn the ways in which we falsely use terms like filmmaker, editor, or director interchangeably. As Youtube continued to grow with the addition of Shorts, Instagram with Reels, and TikTok, Kashif decided it was his chance to get ahead of the curve and learn what was really going on. While he's still figuring out exactly what it is about his content that people respond to, his goal is to continue being as authentic as possible. As the algorithm remains ever-changing and slightly abusive, the content Kashif shares over TikTok is aimed at sharing stories of value rather than self-promotion or over-production. Transparency There's something so interesting to audiences about getting a behind-the-scenes look at content creation, securing brand deals, and the ins and outs of how Creators…well, create. It may seem odd and as if the content can't be just that, but Kashif begs to differ. Often those same videos showing the types of DMs sent to brands and securing deals are the same ones that lead to more deals with others. Don't discount the insights and entertainment that your personal journey holds. Desi Standard Time Travel The short film tells the story of a young Indian father who just lost his dad, and gets the chance to travel back in time and fix their last conversation. Through twists, and turns the main character learns to understand his parents with more grace in this British sci-fi comedy-inspired short film. Timing, Prioritization, Brand Collaboration, and Personal Partnerships First thing first, realize that good things take time. Like a student becoming a master, give yourself time without the expectation of something perfect to come from it. Giving yourself permission and the patience to find the balance between slowing down and speeding up will get you further, without burnout. Some of the responsibilities and pressures that come with growing a brand or company are helpful in prioritizing what projects to say yes or no to, and how to accurately value($) your time. Take note of how the big companies and ad agencies are doing regarding partnership, and get creative in how to scale that down for personal projects. George Couros begins this episode with a reflection on a quote from the book, Getting to Neutral: “The next time your world feels like its collapsing around you, Grab your mental gear shift and ask yourself something similar, don't worry about the big picture, ask this: What is the next thing I need to do?” When we can articulate what is going on and what we need to do to move forward, we can find confidence in what may happen next. AmiSights: Financing the Future For Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs
In today's podcast, MultiFunding President Lynn Ozer, aka SBA Queen, and I talk to Donya Gordon, a contract attorney who focuses on commercial contracts, eCommerce M & A transactions, contract dispute resolution, distress business sales, and escrow services. The main focus of today's conversation is what an entrepreneur should do to prepare for a successful transaction before the deal arrives on the attorney's desk. After working with prominent law firms and as a judicial clerk for several years, Donya went out alone a couple of years ago without any outside financing. As a result, she is a one-woman show, except for contractors who help with heavy loads. E-commerce is especially hot now, coming off the pandemic, with much movement in buying and selling businesses. Donya explains the importance of having an attorney specializing in e-commerce to guide entrepreneurs through the process. "You don't want just to do this blindly," she says. "If your car breaks down, you're not fixing it yourself. And if you need a root canal, you're not doing it yourself. So why do you think you can be the attorney in a transaction? I encourage people to have a lawyer, but encourage you to get an e-commerce lawyer instead of just a lawyer." We ask Donya what buyers and sellers can do well in advance to prepare for negotiations. For buyers, make sure you have the money, she says. For sellers, make sure your financials are in order. You don't want poor bookkeeping or debts hampering the sale. And make sure you continue to put your foot on the gas. Just because you have an interested buyer doesn't mean you can give up. Deals can fall through at the last minute; ensure you have done your due diligence until the papers are signed. Recorded 03/23/2023.
Perfectly Panicked - The Podcast on Anxiety, Panic, Mental Health and Stigma
Welcome to the first episode of season 2 of the Perfectly Pan!cked podcast! To kick things off, I invited the most lovely, smart, courageous woman, Donya Feizbakhsh to share her powerful story of transformation, awakening and stepping into the life that's waiting for you. I always love my conversations with Donya and come away so inspired, and I know you will too! Donya is an Aquarius and lawyer, in that order. Following her training in private practice at Shook, Hardy and Bacon in Washington, D.C., Donya sought to find peace in her legal career. While at Shook, she pushed boundaries by starting conversations and initiatives about supporting mental health within the legal world and erasing the stigma. Donya made a career shift into the television industry, as a lifetime fan of the escapism offered by television. Now, as legal counsel at BBC Studios in New York City, Donya continues to champion the importance of mental health. She is open about her personal journey and continues to step out into courageous vulnerability. We talk about OCD (in a pandemic!), suicide ideation, and depression, so if those are triggers for you please skip this episode and protect your peace. The silver lining of COVID in finally having the time and space to reflect on your life and reimagine your future. We discuss Big Law - the lifestyle, the competition to see who can be the most miserable and the goal. We ask big questions like "what's the goal?" "Is seeking happiness ok or does it add more pressure?" And of course, we hear exactly what inspired Donya to turn her shameful secret into your superpower. Don't forget to Rate, Review and Follow the podcast so you don't miss any new episodes! ANNOUNCEMENT:
When Taher and his wife, Donya, became believers in Jesus, they knew they risked persecution in their home country. Indeed, one day Taher was blindfolded, handcuffed, imprisoned, and charged with apostasy. Before he appeared at trial, he and Donya agreed that they wouldn’t betray Jesus. What happened at the sentencing amazed him. The judge said, “I don’t know why, but I want to take you out of the whale’s and lion’s mouth.” With that, Taher “knew that God was acting”; he couldn’t otherwise explain the judge referencing two key passages in the Bible. Taher was released from prison and the family later found exile elsewhere. Taher’s surprising release echoes the story of Daniel surviving the lion’s den (Daniel 6). A skilled administrator, he was going to be promoted, which made his colleagues jealous (vv. 3–5). Plotting his downfall, they convinced King Darius to pass a law against praying to anyone other than the king—which Daniel ignored. King Darius had no choice but to throw Daniel to the lions (v. 16). But God “rescued Daniel” and saved him from death (v. 27), even as He saved Taher through the judge’s surprising release. Many believers today suffer for following Jesus, and sometimes they even are killed. Whether we face this kind of persecution or not, we can deepen our faith when we understand that God has ways and means we can’t even imagine. Know that He’s with you in whatever battles you face.
In this episode of The Sales Compensation Show, TSCS host, Justin Lane, speaks with Donya Rose to discuss how to map out a Sales Compensation plan for employees of an organization and its role in enabling the morals of sales representatives.
On today's episode, I am joined by Donya Bouzarjomehri. Donya is currently a strategy director living in Paris, France, after spending 5+ years in NYC working in advertising. Donya promised herself after studying abroad in Paris that she would one day return not as a student but to start her career. Then in 2016, as she was advancing in her career, she decided to honor that promise even if that meant quitting her job, moving to a new country, and figuring it out day by day… she calls her journey a “wild experience but also one that tests your patience and tests your passion.” For Donya, it was this drive to make it work, so she maintained her optimism to make that happen.
Podcast episodes will first be uploaded to my YouTube, then free audio versions will come out a little while later on all platforms. In this episode Raam talks to psychologist Donya about the circle of violence, compassion, trauma and alternative styles of therapy. ***Masty o Rasty is not responsible for, or condone, the views and opinions expressed by our guests *** ***مستی و راستی هیچگونه مسولیتی در برابر نظرها و عقاید مهمانهای برنامه ندارد.*** ----------- Intro song: King Raam - Lazy Bee, Outro song: King Raam - Without Sleep ----------- Social Media: @kingraam Voice Messages: www.t.me/mastyorasty Merch: www.kingraam.com/merch NFT: www.foundation.app/kingraam Donations: paypal.me/raamemami Venmo: @kingraam gofundme.com/kingraam --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/kingraam/message
