Shanghai Disney Resort unveiled new smoking control measures on Monday during an outdoor smoking control roundtable, aimed at enhancing visitor experience and park operations. The new measures, taking effect on May 29 ahead of World No Tobacco Day on May 31 and International Children's Day on June 1, include reducing designated smoking areas, upgrading no-smoking signage, and implementing a reminder card system. Following a comprehensive review and assessment of existing smoking points, the resort will eliminate 24 smoking areas, cutting the total number by about half. Shanghai Disneyland will have 11 designated smoking areas. The adjustments focus on high-traffic zones where non-smoking visitors previously reported unavoidable exposure to smoke, and heavily congested secondary pathways. Several smoking points, including those near the main park entrance, will be relocated to optimize guest flow. The resort's guest rules and regulations strictly prohibit smoking throughout the park except in designated areas, covering traditional tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and any other products that produce vapor or smoke. The resort will implement a comprehensive update of its smoking-related signage. More than 2,800 "No Smoking" signs will be installed throughout the resort, including Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, Wishing Star Park, Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel. The signs will feature both traditional and e-cigarette symbols and will be themed to match different areas of the resort. Staff training on smoking control will be intensified, with cast members receiving updated instruction on second-hand smoke risks, intervention methods, and current government policies. They will be equipped with bilingual reminder cards featuring QR codes directing visitors to the nearest designated smoking areas. As part of the resort's "Star Guest" program promoting civilized behavior, the resort has installed posters featuring Chief Bogo from Zootopia throughout the property, reminding guests to respect others by smoking only in designated areas. Updated smoking area information will be accessible through the resort's official platforms including its website and app. Visitors are advised to familiarize themselves with and follow the rules and regulations before visiting.

Details are a little fuzzy, but one thing is clear: if Disney doesn't get the guest experience right in all this talk about big expansion plans they risk alienating their existing core group and the 700 million new guests they're targeting.Disney's Global Parks Expansion Plans Sound Great, But Details are Lacking and there are some Risks In the last episode, we discussed the potential future developments for Disneyland and, as if on cue, Bob Iger and Disney executives shared a little more this week about the Disney Company's future park investments around the globe. Here's what we know and what it may mean for you, the Disney traveler. The Disney Company is working on plans to increase the timing and investments in Parks, Experiences and Products globally. They plan to almost double the spend over the next 10 years to roughly $60 billion, including both American and international parks and Disney Cruise Line (not to mention DVC).Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D'Amaro met with Wall Street analysts and investors at Disney World to discuss how they plan to invest in experiences that leverage the ever-growing library of Disney stories.Which Disney Stories Will Come to Life? Not unlike Destination D23, this presentation was a lot of talking with little detail. Disney does plan to fuel future growth with stories that haven't had a significant presence in parks. We know that Frozen-themed lands are coming to Hong Kong Disneyland, Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort, and that a Zootopia-themed land is coming to Shanghai Disney Resort. But Disney specifically stated it will explore even more characters and franchises, including some they've never done before.“We have a wealth of untapped stories to bring to life across our business,” said D'Amaro. “Frozen, one of the most successful and popular animated franchises of all time, could have a presence at the Disneyland Resort. Wakanda has yet to be brought to life. The world of Coco is just waiting to be explored. There's a lot of storytelling opportunity.”No Shortage of Park Space for Disney to BuildIn a shot likely aimed at Universal, Josh D'Amaro said “We stand alone when it comes to scale and while our scale is impressive, we have no shortage of space or regions of the world in which to tell new stories.”Disney Parks has over 1,000 acres of land for possible future development to expand theme park space across its existing sites – the equivalent of about seven new Disneyland Parks.Focusing on Converting Disney Fans into Disney TravelersFor every park visitor today there are 10 other Disney consumers who've never visited a park. So DIsney has a plan to convert those 700 million Disney fans to become park guests. That's a lot of people in Disney Parks. This sounds great if you're a Disney exec, but could prove to be a nightmare for Disney travelers who sometimes have to navigate parks that are already over crowded. How they do this is critical.“Ultimately what is most important to us is the relationship that we have with every guest,” said D'Amaro. “Guests can spend a day with us at our Parks, a week with us on a Cruise, or the rest of their lives with us through Disney Vacation Club membership.”What Disney needs to consider is that every guest includes existing loyal Disney travelers. It will be a balancing act to bring in that many more new visitors, without disrupting the experience for everyone (and that includes convoluted tech processes for just about everything).Having enough hotel space is critical to making this vision work. While they did not mention hotels, they did talk about Disney Vacation Club (DVC). The DVC expansion strategy is currently to have a thousand new "keys" (aka DVC rooms) coming on board by the end of 2024. That's a lot of new DVC members.  340 DVC rooms came online with the opening of DVC Disneyland Hotel in September and  there will be approximately 360 Fort Wilderness cabins opening in 2024,  plus approximately 270 new Polynesian Villas also in 2024. Having every possible guest become a DVC member is clearly a "key" strategy for Disney. So what does that mean for the future of Disney travel and the management of crowd levels and an overall enjoyable experience? Only time will tell. For now let's focus on the positive fact that somehow somewhere, there will be a new park or parks at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. China is witnessing a travel boom during this year's five-day May Day holiday, the first such holiday since the country optimized its COVID-19 response measures. Domestic travel bookings for the holiday, which starts on April 29 this year, have surged more than 700 percent from last year, the latest data from online travel agency Trip.com Group shows. 700%。Below are seven Chinese cities that are among the top holiday travel choices for tourists. Apart from first-tier cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, smaller ones like Zibo of Shandong province are gaining prominence due to their various attractions. As a historic and cultural city, the Chinese capital is undoubtedly one of the most popular destinations. This year, Beijing recommends 16 tourism routes highlighting the city's ancient relics, royal gardens, parks, museums and venues for the Olympic Games and Winter Olympics. The Great Wall, the Palace Museum, the Summer Palace and the National Stadium, also known as Bird's Nest, are covered by the routes.Nearly 300 plays and 1,170 performances will be put on during the holiday, including symphonies and dance dramas, providing a cultural feast for audiences to enjoy in the country's cultural center. Boasting the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Disney Resort, Shanghai is listed among the top 10 destinations by multiple online travel platforms. As an emerging means of travel following COVID-19, more and more tourists prefer a city walk, enjoying the historic buildings and street views along various interesting roads, such as Wukang Road and Anfu Road.Located in the core area of the Yangtze River Delta, Shanghai has also witnessed a growth in regional tours radiating out from the city. Train tickets from Shanghai to nearby tourist cities such as Suzhou, which is famous for its traditional gardens, and Hangzhou, where West Lake is located, have almost sold out. Xi'an西安Xi'an, a city with over 3,100 years of history, is home to the Terracotta Warriors, Weiyang Palace and the ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).After visiting the cultural ruins in the daytime, tourists can dress in traditional Chinese costumes to immerse themselves in the historic city in the evening, strolling through ancient buildings, having a taste of local snacks and watching the acrobatics and lion-dance shows in the street imitating the ancient street scenes of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The southern city of Guangzhou attracts tourists with its landmark Guangzhou Tower, old and famous Cantonese restaurants, street night markets and night-cruise tours along the Zhujiang River. The Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort is a must-see destination for families with children. Not only can visitors find some 20,000 precious wild animals, including the giant panda triplets, in the safari park, but they can also watch an international circus attended by more than 300 performers from more than 20 countries. A fair featuring Chinese traditional costumes and an electric music night party are also held in the resort during the holiday. Known as a "mountain city," Chongqing in Southwest China attracts people with its beautiful scenery, such as uneven roads and architecture built on hills and along the Yangtze River.Among the famous destinations are two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Wulong Karst Scenic Area and the Dazu Rock Carvings. The former is famous for its giant sinkholes, natural bridges and caves, while the latter features an exceptional series of rock carvings dating from the 9th to the 13th century. In the city proper, the ancient town of Ciqikou, dating back some 1,000 years to the Song Dynasty, the temple fair and night tours allow tourists to enjoy the culture in the "mountain city." Nicknamed "Oriental Hawaii," Sanya, in the island province of Hainan, has long been on the list of hot destinations for tourists in China. In the past, the site mainly relied on its sea views to attract visitors, but nowadays, it offers a variety of tourism programs, as Sanya increasingly looks to refine its tourism sector. Tourists can ride a motorboat on the blue sea, sip coffee while reading in a seaside bookstore, enjoy a candlelight dinner and simply unwind with some self-brewed tea on the beach under the starry night sky. Zibo, in east China's Shandong province, has become a new choice for travelers due to its iconic barbecues. The city shot to national fame earlier this year after social media influencers hyped up the unique local barbecue -- grilled meat wrapped in pancakes with shallots. Initially popular among college students due to its unique taste, DIY style and affordability, the dish has now attracted swarms of tourists to the city. While sparing no efforts to rein in hotel price hikes and implement tourist-friendly policies to cater to the holiday fervor, the city's authorities issued a letter noting that the influx of tourists has exceeded the reception capacity and asked tourists to travel off-peak or consider other cities in Shandong. In addition to the above-listed cities, tourists also flock to Chengdu to watch giant pandas, to Xiamen to hear the sea breeze lying on the beach at Gulangyu Islet, and to Changsha to taste the yummy snacks at the night fair. Some netizens said they would like to travel to any destination for which they can secure a plane or train ticket.Railway trips in China hit a record high of 19.66 million passenger trips on Saturday, the first day of the holiday. About 120 million domestic trips are expected to be made by Chinese railway passengers from April 27 to May 4, an increase of 20 percent from the 2019 level. Meanwhile, the number of flight bookings for the holiday has already exceeded 6 million, generally equivalent to the level registered during the same holiday in 2019.The holiday travel spree in China shows that the tourism sector is recovering at full tilt in the post-epidemic era, and the world's second-largest economy is regaining its vitality.

2017-04-18 Special EnglishThis is Special English. I'm Ryan Price in Beijing. Here is the news.China has seen its air quality worsen a little in the first quarter of this year, particularly in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province. The national environmental authority said that in the first three months, 70 percent of days in 340 cities tracked had good air quality. The figure is 1 percent higher than the same period last year. However, the concentration of PM2.5 increased 3 percent year-on-year. PM2.5 refers to the fine particulate matter with a diameter less than 2.5 microns that is hazardous to human health. PM2.5 is one of the six air pollutants that are monitored continuously. While the average air quality has deteriorated slightly nationwide, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region saw a major drop in air quality in the first quarter. PM2.5 concentration soared to 95 micrograms per cubic meter, a 27 percent increase year-on-year. The national air quality standard for PM2.5 is 35 micrograms per cubic meter or less. Six of the top ten most polluted cities were in Hebei Province, where heavy industry is an economic pillar. The provincial capital topped the list in the first quarter. This is Special English.Beijing residents could be rewarded with up to 500,000 yuan, roughly 72,000 US dollars, if they can provide useful information on spies or related activities.A government policy took effect recently. Under the policy, informants are eligible to be offered rewards ranging from 10,000 yuan to 500,000 yuan, depending on how useful the information is.Informants can pass information to authorities by calling a hotline, sending letters or visiting the bureau. Informants' privacy and information about spy-related messages will not be disclosed. Information providers can ask authorities for protection if they or their family are in danger due to the act of informing. The policy stipulates that informants will face punishments if they deliberately slander others or invent and spread false information. Beijing's Public Security Bureau says China saw rapid increases in international exchanges, as well as the number of people entering or exiting the country.Overseas espionage agencies and other hostile forces have also intensified their disruptive activities in China, including political infiltration and the stealing of intelligence. The bureau says Some Chinese individuals have also betrayed the nation to benefit their private interests. You're listening to Special English. I'm Ryan Price in Beijing. China has announced it had completed controlled tests on its first hot-water drill, which is capable of drilling through 1,500 meters of ice and will be used for Antarctic research. This is the fourth test on the drill, which was conducted in Northeast China. The drill used pressurized hot water to melt and bore into the ice. The assessment panel said it is capable of drilling 1,500 meters into the ice shelf in Antarctica. The review panel said the drill will be invaluable to China's Antarctic scientific exploration. The panel agreed to further testing and said the equipment should be used during China's upcoming 34th Antarctic expedition in November. Once it passes the Antarctic test, China will be the third country in the world to have mastered hot water drilling deeper than 1,000 meters, following the United States and Australia. The drilling helps with the detection of ice shelves which are floating ice platforms between glaciers and the ocean surface. The freeze-thaw underneath ice shelves has an important effect on the continental ice sheets, and water masses and ocean currents. This is Special English.Strong downstream demand led to increasing sales of excavators in China last month.Data with China Construction Machinery Association showed that sales of excavators in March rose more than 55 percent year on year as the Chinese economy gained momentum. Analysts said April is expected to follow the same pattern. For the January to March period, sales almost doubled from a year earlier.Economists say excavator machinery is a barometer of new infrastructure, and its strong growth indicates that the economy could expand steadily in the first half of this year.Adding to a slew of upbeat data on the economy, surveys on the country's manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors showed the economy had staged a strong start.China's manufacturing sector in March stayed above the boom-bust mark for the eighth month in a row, and the non-manufacturing sector continued to expand, nearing a three-year record high. You're listening to Special English. I'm Ryan Price in Beijing. A fund for assisting the medical treatment of patients with rare diseases has been initiated in Shanghai. The fund has starting money of 3 million yuan, roughly 440,000 U.S. dollars. It was jointly raised by rare disease prevention and treatment institutions in Shanghai and drug firms. The chairman of the Shanghai Rare Disease Prevention and Treatment Fund said the funding would encourage more effective prevention and medical treatment of rare diseases. He said the fund would help pool more financial support and company donations for rare disease patients.Globally, there are some 6,000 to 7,000 recognized rare diseases. Only a few of them have established medical treatment.Around 60 percent of rare disease patients are children, with 30 percent living less than five years. There has been no epidemiological survey of rare disease patients made in China.Early diagnosis and treatment can effectively check on the progress of rare diseases and even cure them.It could take years for doctors to diagnose a rare disease, while patients miss the best time for treatment and suffer from inflicted problems leading to mental difficulties, heart problems and atrophied muscles. Net quarterly revenues for the China/Asia Pacific segment grew 18 percent year on year to 770 million U.S. dollars. The robust sales growth is partly due to cooperation between Starbucks and Chinese Internet giant Tencent, which has offered mobile payment services for Chinese customers since December. The two companies have also rolled out a digital gift-giving service on WeChat, allowing WeChat users to send and receive Starbucks digital gifts and then cash them in at offline outlets.Starbucks is the first retail brand to use the digital gift-sharing service, supported by the social network's 850 million monthly active users. This is Special English.China has launched a universal network covering the data of elder care facilities across the country. The Civil Affairs Ministry said information recorded about these institutions in the network will include internal management, service quality, security management and staff profiles. Beijing&`&s education authority has said that air purifiers will be installed in pilot primary and secondary schools and nurseries to protect students and small children from polluted air. The program is to be subsidized by the municipal government. According to a local newspaper, some schools in the city have installed air filtration systems using donations from businesses. A staff member in a school equipped with an air purifier system told the Beijing News that the concentration of PM2.5 had been reduced remarkably in the school after the system was set up. Beijing has suffered heavy air pollution since winter began. To avoid polluted air, outdoor activities have been suspended in schools, nurseries and extra-curricular education institutions. The municipal government said children&`&s health is a priority concern of education authorities. It urged schools to raise the students&`& awareness of self-protection to prepare for days with heavy pollution. This is Special English.Chinese scientists are drawing a 1:2.5 million scale map of the Moon&`&s geology.Scientists of China&`&s lunar exploration program said five universities and research institutes from across China have set standards for digital mapping. They have begun drawing the map of the Moon&`&s geological structure.A sketch version of the map measures around 4 by 2 meters. It will be finished by 2018, and will be released by 2020.The map will provide information on the structure and rock types of the Moon and will reflect the timeline of the Moon&`&s evolution.Scientists say the map will clearly show the size and appearance of the Moon and the craters on it.Creating the map depends on data and images sent from circumlunar satellites from China and other countries. The scientists say that a lunar map is very different from that of the Earth, where scientists can go to the spot in person to learn the details.Through the satellites, the scientists have obtained overall images of the Moon, which contribute to the precision of the lunar maps. The information was released by the China Internet Network Information Center. The center said that at present, Chinese-character domain names can be used in mainstream browsers, search engines and input methods. This means that, for example, by inputting a Chinese-character domain name in a browser, users are able to reach a corresponding website, like with any regular English domain name.Since domain names were created in the 1980s, they had long been formed with characters in the Roman alphabet. The information center has called on Chinese Internet companies, including email service providers, to further promote the use of Chinese-character domain names. This is Special English.Shanghai Disney Resort is planning to expand its talent pool by partnering with local educational institutions. Shanghai Disney is Walt Disney Company&`&s latest theme park.Walt Disney says it will sign agreements this year with 10 universities, colleges and vocational schools to launch its "Talent Class" for professional training. Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, says the move is part of the Disney Company&`&s goal of finally having at least 98 percent of its staff members being from the local area.Gas says interaction with visitors is an essential part of the resort, and it relies on the company&`&s 10,000 staff members to achieve visitor satisfaction. The training will be provided jointly by the company and the schools. Internship opportunities are also up for grabs. Under the training, students will take on different roles including animation designers, makeup artists, accountants and mechanical technicians. Outstanding participants can apply to intern at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in the United States, training alongside their American counterparts. The toxins can be transported by wind and water, accumulate in the environment and pass between different species through the food chain. In 1996, researchers in Norway observed two cases of "intersex" in polar bears. The bears were normal males by their looks but neither of them showed signs of having a Y chromosome which could determine that they were male.Scientists believe that the number of such "intersex" polar bears may have risen as a result of hormonal disruptions caused by pollutants. Now the news continues.U.S. scientists have discovered that microscopic structures within a brain region change from childhood into adulthood over a timescale that mirrors improvements in people&`&s ability to recognize faces. The study has overturned a central thought in neuroscience. People used to believe that as humans are born with brains riddled with excess neural connections, the amount of brain tissue goes in one direction throughout their lives, from too much to just enough.By looking at the brains of children, the team examined a region of the brain that distinguishes faces from other objects. It&`&s only in the last 10 years that psychologists started looking at children&`&s brains. The study shows that children are not miniature adults, and that there is still a lot of very basic knowledge to be learned about the developing brain in that age range. The study found that there are actual changes to brain tissues and the process takes place for the whole lifetime. The study is the first to use quantitative MRI to directly assess changes in brain regions. This is Special English.Plans are being made to turn China&`&s most complete 2,000-year-old cemetery into a national park. The tomb of the "Marquis of Haihun" near Nanchang, the capital of east China&`&s Jiangxi Province, is one of the few imperial tombs that have not been looted. The remains of the marquis were found in a coffin in an interior chamber and hoisted out in January, last year, for lab research. A tourist center in the park is set to open in 2019.The marquis, Liu He, was grandson of Emperor Wudi of the Western Han Dynasty, whose reign began one of the most prosperous periods in China&`&s history. The excavation of the tomb began in 2011. It has been recognized as a model archeological research and relic protection project. Preservation was carried out alongside the archeological excavation and an application for it to be inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list is in the pipeline. You&`&re listening to Special English. He encouraged the university to continue to improve its educational theories and training models, as this would boost the competence and professionalism of its faculty. The president said to build a world-class army, military-affiliated colleges must be elite academies, adding that reform and innovation would support this goal. The president urged all military academies to advance warfare strategies to create a military theory that is up-to-date, pioneering and unique. They were encouraged to closely follow global military developments, research the role of IT in military operations and address the problems in the country's combat readiness. No more side effects have been detected among the people vaccinated with suspected illegal vaccines. The National Health and Family Planning Commission says the observation was based on the analyses made by medical experts with a state-level database on vaccines. The commission has been working with local health departments to crack down on illegal vaccines, calling for local departments to report more information on the whereabouts of the illegal products. It was revealed recently that vaccines improperly stored and expired have been sold in 20 provincial-level regions since 2011. In a related development, the World Health Organization has released a notice, saying improperly stored and expired vaccines pose a very small risk of causing a toxic reaction. The notice says vaccines need to be stored and managed properly or they can lose potency and become less effective. It says however, improperly stored or expired vaccines seldom cause a toxic reaction, adding that there was likely minimal safety risk in this particular incident. Xinhua News Agency President Cai Mingzhao has pledged continuous support to the United Nations Environment Program on environment protection and sustainable development, and particularly to UNEP's efforts to stop illegal trade in wildlife. During his visit to the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi in Kenya, Cai said Xinhua will constantly explore new cooperation models with the U.N. agency with a view to make greater contribution to human development. Cai says Xinhua, China's state news agency, is willing to support UNEP's environmental campaigns including wildlife protection, through enhanced news coverage and interactions on official websites and social media platforms, as well as by jointly holding public service activities. Both organizations have agreed to combine resources to bring greater attention to the illegal trade in wildlife so that consumers understand the damage caused by their purchases, in an effort to reduce demand. UNEP deputy executive director Ibrahim Thiaw said Cai's visit has come at a critical moment, as UNEP is leading the United Nations campaign to combat the illegal trade in wildlife. He said the UNEP welcomes Xinhua's participation in its other major campaigns this year, including Marine Litter, Sustainable Tourism, and Air Pollution. This is NEWS Plus Special English. A new report says as of the end of last year, 4 million Chinese students had studied or were studying overseas since 1978 when China opened to the world. The report, by the Ministry of Educaton, features employment of students who have returned to China. It found that a total of 2.2 million students had returned. Last year, over 520,000 Chinese students went abroad for study, and 410,000 returned. Most of the returnees, around 75 percent of interviewees, were willing to work in eastern coastal cities. Almost half of the respondents said they were willing to stay in China's biggest cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen. More than 3 percent of interviewees hope to start their own business; and career development space is the most important factor for them in choosing jobs, followed by location and salary. Students majoring in management, science and economics are in greatest demand after they go back to China, followed by those who majored in engineering, arts and law. An official from the ministry says almost all of the students were studying abroad at their own expenses. The report is aimed at helping students and their parents to make better plans for their future studies. You are listening to NEWS Plus Special English. I'm Liu Yan in Beijing. The death of a 4-year-old girl, who was beheaded in a knife attack in Taiwan, has sparked widespread public anger on the island and criticism of calls to abolish the death penalty. The attack took place as the child was cycling towards a metro station with her mother in Taipei. The 33-year-old suspect attacked and decapitated the girl with a cleaver in full view of her mother. Bystanders heard the mother's screams and rushed to restrain the attacker until police arrived. The suspect, Wang Ching-yu had been arrested in the past for drug-related crimes and had twice sought medical treatment for mental conditions after physical altercations with his family. Television footage showed angry people gathered outside a police station in Taipei where the suspect was being held. Some attacked the suspect as he was being transferred to the prosecutor's office for questioning. Many went to lay flowers and toys at the spot where the girl was killed. Taiwan resumed capital punishment in 2010 after a five-year hiatus. Executions are reserved for serious crimes, including aggravated murder and kidnapping, but politicians are divided over whether or not to retain it. This is the second child-killing case in Taiwan in a year. This is NEWS Plus Special English. China's tuberculosis infection rate has been decreasing steadily over the past five years. According to the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the morbidity rate from TB has reduced from 71 in every 100,000 people in 2011 to 63 last year. The death rate caused by TB has also been following a downward trend, dropping from 3 in 100,000 people in 2011 to 2 in 2014, well below the international average of 15 in 100,000 people. The commission says a TB prevention and treatment system is gradually taking shape, which places a particular focus on groups including students and migrant workers. Last year there were 34,000 students reported to have contracted TB in China, down 29 percent compared with 2011. China has invested more than 7 billion yuan, roughly 1 billion U.S. dollars, on the prevention and treatment of TB during the past five years, and will continue to enhance the work. Doctors from south China's Hunan Province performed a successful spinal surgery recently, using 3D printing technology on a man suffering from a spinal deformity. The surgery was conducted by a team from the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. It used a 3D-printed device to help the doctors determine the angle and depth of the incisions to ensure the accuracy of the operation. The patient had long suffered from spinal arthritis, leading to a severe humpback. His height decreased from 1.7 meters to 1.3 meters due to the deformity, and doctors cut parts of his spine to restore him to an upright posture. Due to the densely distributed nerves on the spine, the surgery required very high precision, and any mistake could result in paralysis of the patient. The 3D-printed nylon part is a precise model of the patient's spine, on which the position and depth of the incision are marked. Fastened to the spine, it made the surgery much easier for the doctors, cutting the surgery time by half, to five hours. The patient is expected to be able to walk in a week. Enthusiastic visitors have snapped up the first batch of tickets in just five minutes for the opening day of the Shanghai Disneyland Park on June 16, temporarily crashing the official website. A statement issued by the Shanghai Disney Resort says it had received warm feedback since it started selling tickets online at noon on Monday. Within half an hour, clicks on the website shanghaidisneyresort.com reached more than 5 million. The massive volume resulted in the company's ticketing system malfunctioning temporarily. The statement says all official website ticketing systems and authorized partners' distribution channels functioned well later. But it did not say how many tickets were sold. Disney Resort's flagship store on Alitrip, one of its authorized ticket-selling websites, also sold out standard admission tickets and two-day tickets that include the opening day. According to Alitrip, more than 20,000 tickets were sold in 30 minutes. By 4 pm, the Alitrip store had seen 35,000 transactions of one-day tickets and 12,000 two-day tickets sold. Meanwhile, hotels at the resort are also open to bookings, with rooms at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel starting from 1,650 yuan, roughly 254 U.S. dollars, and those at the Toy Story Hotel priced at 850 yuan.
