We're headed on the road in Spring 2026! Sign up to be the first to know our tour cities and dates and ticket access! https://forms.gle/zFmxCUNBN2SX42yU7"Maybe we need a new thing. When Abby contradicts herself you drink. When NOTHING makes any sort of sense now you drink as well. You will be hammered." While Christi might be setting some of you up for alcohol poisoning with that one, It's undeniably true that things at the ALDC are starting to fray at the seams and Abby is becoming increasingly incomprehensible as "Abby Got Served" gets underway.Abby is served Paige's lawsuit, throwing the ALDC into a panic. Abby gathers the team off-camera to discuss how to handle the situation. The crew in-turn tries to make the most of the situation. Without Christi and Kelly present to fuel drama, the show can just focus on Paige's lawsuit until Abby finds actual drama elsewhere! Speaking of drama: Kalani's reintroduction to the team is off to a rocky start as she shows up late for her first day back. Does she get shouted at for such a blunder? Of course not! Instead she is rewarded with Top of the Pyramid. The moms are rightfully upset by the unfair double standards, but worry upsetting Abby at this moment will only make things worse for themselves. Though with a questionable Orange is the New Black inspired group number, how much worse can it really get?Abby insists the girls receive new headshots for LA. Though time for the photoshoot is limited, Abby instructs the photographer to prioritize Kalani and the Zieglers as they're the only ones "who are going to get jobs". Jill overhears this and it only worsens the mom's frustrations with their new direction. Why are they going to LA if they're just going to continue to be jostled around by Abby's whims? Abby does begrudgingly allow more time for the girls who got short changed by the situation but the stress of the photoshoot, LA move, and lawsuit are all starting to pile up.Quotes“I'm sitting there thinking to myself, 'Oh my god my daughter is teaching me how to read.' Like this is pretty sad!'" (03:24-03:31 | Kelly)“When I did my Instagram post where I told everybody that I had been diagnosed later in my life with ADHD, somebody wrote on the comments: Yeah I could have told you that after the first episode of Dance Moms. You and Kelly both!" (04:20-04:31 | Christi)“I got some exciting news! Is it a dead bird?" (12:32-12:365| Christi & Kelly)“I don't think there's anything pretty about a prop." 2025 Rerun Notes: In commemoration of this month release of the last-ever Mishmash Monday on Channel 1, I thought I'd rerun the first two installments of the series - both from all the way back in 2017 (Season 1 of the show). Therefore, all the obvious caveats on "absolutely atrocious production quality" and blah blah blah (especially on C1E10, the earlier of the two releases). Though this rerun is "officially" and "canonically" the first "Mishmash Monday" (free play) episode in Nerd Noise Radio history, it is really "Mishmash Monday in name only" as it wasn't truly a free play. Instead, it was designed with a very specific purpose and with each track housing a very specific meaning. Though I explain and elaborate fully in a 2019 special expanded rebroadcast of this episode we called "Chandlerfest", which I'll link to below, for now, the tl;dr is that this mixtape was actually made in commemoration for a friend who died entirely too young in Dec 2016, and whose absence we still feel regularly from here in 2025. When I got the news, I left work, went home, and turned my grief into tortured energy, and made this mixtape, with the design philosophy being to use the tracks and the particular arch of the track order to tell the story of the emotions of those of us left behind in his wake as we processed the news of his departure. With this being a 2017 episode, all the obvious caveats on "absolutely atrocious production quality" (especially episodes from the first half of 2017, which were even worse than those from the second half.) But content-wise, this early outing remains one of the most important episodes of Nerd Noise Radio....ever. 2025 Rerun Notes: In commemoration of this month release of the last-ever Mishmash Monday on Channel 1, I thought I'd rerun the first two installments of the series - both from all the way back in 2017 (Season 1 of the show). Therefore, all the obvious caveats on "absolutely atrocious production quality" and blah blah blah (especially on C1E10, the earlier of the two releases). Though today's rerun is officially, canonically the "second" Mishmash Monday, it's actually the first "for real" Mishmash Monday. The first "actual free play episode". Not that it was produced before C1E10, but released later, but that C1E10 was a "Mishmash Monday" in name only, and was definitely not a true free play. I'll explain in that episode's rerun. But for now, numbers and dates aside, this was our first actual "free play" episode in NNR history. And even though the production quality is so absolutely horrible, I still regard this episode as an excellent collection of music! Easily in our top 50% of show history, and perhaps even top 25%. On this episode of Taste Buds with Deb, host Debra Eckerling speaks with kosher sushi chef Marisa Baggett, who blends tradition, identity and intention in her culinary work.    “My sushi journey and my Jewish journeys are actually very much entwined,” Baggett explains.  “When I was going through sushi school, I was also embracing Judaism, so there was always this kind of… pull between how I'm going to show up as a Jewish sushi chef.”    Baggett, who once owned a kosher deli and has brought her Japanese training into her Jewish food, decided to focus mostly on plant-based food in the last year.    “I think that I was probably always kind of on this path of heading towards only making plant-based sushi,” she says. “It just took me a while to get there.”    When asked what she knows now that she wished she knew early in her career, Baggett says that it's okay to bring all of the pieces of who you are to the table at once.     “For the longest time, I tried to keep everything separate,” she explains. “I really wish that I brought more of everything together - Southern, Jewish background, the Japanese training - earlier in my career.”    Chef Marisa Baggett talks about her out-of-the-blue sushi origin story, food memories from growing up in the south, and how to embrace creativity in the kitchen. She also shares her recipe for miso mish mash soup, which you can find at JewishJournal.com/podcasts.     “Give yourself permission to have fun in the kitchen,” she says. “There's a lot of flexibility in that one bowl.”   Learn more at MarisaBaggett.com, follow @ChefMarisaBaggett on Instagram and watch Marisa Baggett compete on “Morimoto's Sushi Master” on The Roku Channel. 2025 re-run bonus notes:   This episode is the third in a trilogy of music blocks (parts 1 and 2 were our January and February reruns). Long time listeners may already know what this trilogy is all about, but for those who don't and have been following the reruns, the introduction to this episode finally explains what the trilogy is all about.   So, the fun [for me] question: of the three music blocks in the trilogy, which did you like best (and why), which did you like least (and why), and do you or do you not think I made the right decision bumping "music block A" for "music block B" in C1E41? Let me know at nerd.noise.radio@gmail.com, or by any social media outlet on which we exist. I will genuinely be curious to know what you think. Even to this day in 2025, I *STILL* don't know what to think, personally!   DISCLAIMER: the production value was worse in 2022 when the intro and outro were produced, and substantially worse in 2018 when the music block was produced. So if this is your first time hearing Nerd Noise Radio, please keep in mind that our production values have much improved in the time since.   ----------------------------- Original (2022) Show Notes -----------------------------   Today's broadcast is  C1E69 for Mishmash Monday, November 7th, 2022. Music Block produced in GarageBand in macOS 10/19/2018.       IMPORTANT NOTE: The tools and techniques I used back in 2018 in producing the music block were NOT up to my current standards – including featuring less sophisticated fades, more imprecise volume level balancing, less developed track run-order sorting, and even my having used MP3s rather than WAVs in the source production, resulting in a lower-fidelity final product, and further limiting my ability to touch it up after the fact. As such, the production value of this episode will NOT be to par with our current "fresh episodes". But production values aside, the quality of the CONTENT itself, otherwise, I feel, is excellent, and well worth digging up to share with you.....I hope that you'll agree! :-)     You can also find all of our audio episodes on Archive.org as well as the occasional additional release only available there, such as remixes of previous releases and other content.    Our YouTube Channel, for the time being is in dormancy, but will be returning with content, hopefully, in 2022. 2025 re-run bonus notes:   This rerun is releasing on the precise 5yr anniversary of its original release - in other words, this celebration of St. John's 40th birthday, featuring his wife, both his kids, both his parents, and his brother is re-releasing on St. John's 45th birthday!   Also, it is the second of a trilogy of music blocks (the first of which was last month's rerun), which, if not already clear to long-time listeners of the show will be explained in the intro to the third track of the trilogy, which will be our March 2025 rerun. So stay tuned til next month's rerun!   DISCLAIMER 1: DEAD-NAME ALERT! August is not their birth name, and this episode was recorded prior to their self-discovery, so it uses their birth/dead name. Because of this, I checked with August prior to releasing it to make sure they were okay with it. They said they were okay with it so long as I included the disclaimer - which I would've done anyway! :-D   DISCLAIMER 2: Apologies for some of the off-color jokes and references in the blooper reel. I was not as far along in my personal transformation at the point this episode was released. There are things that made this blooper that would not have today. Therefore, please consider it a piece of history rather than an accurate representation of current perspectives.   DISCLAIMER 3: the production value was much worse back in 2020. But would you want to pay top dollar to be surrounded by apparitions and disembodied screams? And Brittany gifts both Kala and you listeners with tales of the spooky activity in the Appalachian Mountains. Cryptids, spirits, and bears! Oh my!
