We loved having bandleader and drummer/percussionist Dom Palombi back to talk about his new album, Dom Palombi's Game Night! Vol. 2. There are about twice as many musicians on this album than on Vol. 1, with what Dom describes as more personal track choices than before. The musicianship is just beyond measure, and it's a fun, adventurous, delightful, funky romp through some great tunes. The three originals are fantastic. ENJOY! Join us on Discord for free. Some say a game is only as good as its ending. While I think that's an inaccurate statement, if the adage is true, than Earthbound is a masterpiece. A culmination of theme, character arc, story and emotion, this game's final encounter and conclusion is among the best of the 16 bit era. Join myself and a joy filled crew of fellow adventurers as we discuss the final moments of Earthbound. A passing glance at a mid-90's Game Pro magazine would likely reveal an ad or two for Earthbound. Not a mention of deep themes, relatable characters and a story that crosses the ages. Nope! Master Belch and "This Game Stinks". Luckily, this wonderful SNES experience is more than the claims of its marketing and my cast of nine are here to tell you exactly why. Fuzzy Pickles! The first time a diminutive photographer stopped my game to take a snapshot of my team, I felt two things: joy and minor annoyance. Joy because it was a charming moment of connection for my crew and annoyance because I'm a modern gamer dad who has precious seconds to spare. But regardless of where I land, it was a big moment. On Part 2 of our ongoing Earthbound saga, my friends and I discuss their favorite moments, the great (and not so great) in-your-hands play and some odd side diversions more than worth your time and attention. When Earthbound landed on American shores in 1995, nobody knew quite to make of it. In an RPG landscape where Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger ruled supreme, a silly game about farts and fuzzy pickles didn't garner much interest. At least according to the marketing. Fast forward nearly 30 years, and Earthbound has grown from 16 bit outcast to the stuff of legends. On this initial decent into the heart of Giygas, a cast of 12 intrepid explorers share their initial impressions of the game, the aforementioned marketing, and how the game hits us now as world weary adults. We interrupt your regularly scheduled Rhythm broadcast to bring you some exciting new music that is worth listening to with some urgency! While the transportation episode is making its journey here and the Xeno episode is leveling up to handle its high-level composers effectively, we decided to bring a selection of music that's come out over the past year, with an emphasis on more recent releases in the last few months. We're covering a wide range of game types/series, and more than one series may be making its Rhythm debut. I'll stop trying to make WRPG Radio happen, though...as important as public radio is and however tempting the semi-ironic station name is for a site that primarily covers JRPGs. Black equity, musical neurotechnology, and new paths for artist funding are just a few of the things that Bryan Crumpler is interested in as a composer. He joins Garrett this week to talk about his life, his music, and the impact that Europe's "Black Pete" has had on one of his compositions. Scott digs into the nuance of "woke racism", Garrett honors the lives of legends who the world has recently lost, and they both highlight musical performances that showcase the sounds of home and far away from home. This week's TRILLOQUY focuses on Florida's new "white guilt" law and how it could impact music education moving forward.

2015 has been a year of ups and downs for Nintendo fans, but the most wonderful time of the year is an important one to remember just how special Nintendo is and always has been. Alex, Ben, and Colin devote this Holiday special to celebrating the most wonderful gifts that Nintendo has given the world in its long history. Thank you all so much for a wonderful 2015, and here's to an even better one-six! This week's outro music is by Super Guitar Bros.
This week we cover a range of topics, including censorship in Xenoblade, the future of Nintendo Directs, and Nintendo's financial status, as well as some of the biggest stories for Nintendo fans: a Metroid short film, the new version of Mewtwo, and more. After the break, we discuss Nintendo's controversial first mobile game, Miitomo, and the potential it has to either make or break Nintendo's mobile plans. This week's break music is called "Explorer" from Sam Dillard's orchestral Metroid album, Metroid Cinematica. The outro music is the Wii's Mii Plaza music as played by the Super Guitar Bros.
The NX is going to be both a console and a hand held according to recent reports, people still use the Kinect and the Pokemon Go developer is getting some funding from... Google? We also talk about the pricing of video games and how it is and should be. We have the definitive answer. All this and more on the latest Game Byte Show! Intro: "Kerwan Metropolis" - Ratchet Clank, by David Bergeaud. Outro: "Of Whips and Strings" - Castlevania medley, by Super Guitar Bros (ocremix.org)
We welcome special guest Kevin (SOcean255) onto the show. Kevin has managed Rainwave's Covers radio station for years. We decide on a Covers-related topic, and focus on a single album of VGM covers: Spectrum of Mana. This album is a fan-arranged album covering songs from the SNES game Secret of Mana, which was originally composed by Hiroki Kikuta. This episode features a lot of live instrumentation and prog rock.Download MP3 Tracklist (full info here):
