Is Dr. Cheyenne Bryant actually a licensed therapist, or is this one of the biggest "rebranding" jobs we've ever seen? The psychology community is officially CLAPPING BACK, and the receipts are flying!
Most healthcare organizations wait until they're drowning to add administrative support. Your Health is doing the opposite — and it's changing the math on what a primary care practice can actually deliver. In Part 1 of this two-part conversation, Scott Middleton — owner of Your Health, founder, and Chief Disruption Officer — sits down with Jamie Preston to unpack why a dedicated administrator is now sitting beside the executive director of clinical services at every care group. With hospice added to the model, a single care group can now be responsible for more than 80 staff members across four care teams — bigger than most medical organizations in the country. Asking a nurse to run that alone was breaking people and burying clinical judgment under scheduling concerns. In this episode: Why the care group exploded overnight — and what hospice changed about staffing ratios What the administrator does on Monday morning before the clinical team even looks at the dashboard The Bridget story: how a "we're not allowed to do one-on-ones" response nearly cost a dementia patient her home Why "what could we have done today" is the wrong question — and what to ask instead How fee-for-service quietly incentivizes the wrong decisions at the hospital level The team structure every administrator now sits inside: nurse, HR, marketing, engagement If you've ever wondered what's actually supposed to stand between a great clinician and burnout, this is it. www.YourHealth.Org
Shahem McLaurin is a licensed therapist, founder of an independent mental health agency, and public mental health educator whose work bridges clinical expertise with large-scale public engagement. They have led and participated in national mental health awareness campaigns in collaboration with institutions such as Harvard University and the National Ad Agency, and have partnered with brands and organizations to develop ethical, evidence-informed mental health messaging. As the founder of their own agency, Shahem provides clinical leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of mental health programming rooted in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care. They are a sought-after speaker and keynote presenter, having delivered talks and trainings at universities including NYU and SUNY. Their work centers on making mental health education accessible, reducing stigma, and expanding equitable access to care through media, storytelling, and community-based dialogue. In this episode, we explore what it looks like to show up authentically as a therapist, different career paths (including community mental health), and how these experiences can shape the way we understand care, access, and equity. We also talk about the importance of advocating for clients not just within the therapy room, but outside of it as well. Shahem shares more about the importance of working toward more accessible and inclusive mental health care, and how there is no one-size-fits-all way to show up as a therapist.FOLLOW SHAHEM:INSTA: @5hahem; @freedomcollectivepodTIKTOK: @5hahemPODCAST: Freedom Collective PodcastSTAY CONNECTED:INSTA: @trustandthriveTIKOK: @trustandthriveTHREADS: @trustandthriveFACEBOOK: bit.ly/FBtaramontEMAIL: trustandthrive@gmail.com

Many of us grow up learning to take care of everyone else first. For many women — especially Filipina women navigating family expectations, cultural values, and relationships — that can show up as over-functioning, suppressing our needs, and staying in patterns that don't truly support us.In this episode, therapist and social worker Lia Mancao joins us to talk about the relationship patterns many people don't realize they're carrying — and how to start building self-trust, healthier boundaries, and more balanced partnerships.Lia shares insights from her work helping people understand how childhood experiences shape adult relationships, why people often forgive quickly to avoid abandonment, and how we can begin reconnecting with our own needs. This conversation is honest, reflective, and ultimately hopeful — especially if you've ever felt responsible for holding everything together. In This Episode We Talk About• how Filipino culture and family dynamics can shape the way many women show up in relationships• the difference between a “proximityship” and a true partnership, and what self-abandonment actually looks like• why many women over-function in relationships and struggle to name their needs• how to start rebuilding self-trust, boundaries, and healthier relationship patternsListener ReflectionHave you ever noticed yourself doing more than your share in relationships — just to keep things working? What might change if you trusted yourself enough to name your needs?Episode Timestamps00:00 Intro & meet therapist Lia Mancao02:20 Lia's background and path into therapy and social work05:00 Why understanding childhood experiences matters in adult life09:00 Social justice, advocacy, and mental health work12:05 The difference between functional rest vs restorative rest13:55 Why some people struggle to truly relax23:50 Finding micro-moments of rest in busy lives24:55 Relationship patterns many Filipina clients experience26:10 How childhood needs affect adult relationships27:10 Why some people struggle to even identify their needs28:10 Forgiving quickly because of fear of abandonment30:20 How to rebuild self-trust through small actions32:30 Inner child work and what we needed to hear growing up34:00 Giving yourself the apology you never received34:45 The concept of a “proximityship” vs partnership36:30 What self-abandonment actually looks like37:55 Understanding social currency and external validation40:00 The pressure to perform on social media42:00 Adapting without losing authenticity44:00 Knowing when to step back from productivity46:15 Navigating seasons of uncertainty47:10 An inner child reflection practiceConnect with Our GuestFollow Lia and her work:Instagram@alyssamariewellnessWebsitehttps://www.alyssamariewellness.com/Connect with Filipina on the RiseInstagramhttps://www.instagram.com/filipinaontheriseWebsitehttps://www.filipinaontherise.comIf this conversation resonated with you, please consider giving to Filipina on the Rise here: https://www.filipinaontherise.com/donate or leaving a 5-star written review on Apple Podcasts. It helps the show get discovered, allows us to bring on incredible guests, and supports the mission of uplifting Filipina voices and stories.Thank you and Stay Rising!

The final week of holiday shopping can feel overwhelming, especially for moms carrying the mental load of gifts, schedules, budgets, and expectations. Ever feel like you're crushing it in business but kind of white-knuckling it at home? Like you can lead a team, close deals, and solve complex problems—but one tense moment with your spouse and you're like, “Bro… what am I even doing?”If that hits a little too close to home, this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast is for you.In this convo, I sit down with Quentin Hafner, a licensed marriage and family therapist, peak-performance coach, and the creator of the Black Belt Husband system. For nearly two decades, Quentin's been helping high-performing entrepreneurs, business leaders, and creators win in every area of life without sacrificing their marriage or sanity in the process. He's taken over 20,000 men through his Black Belt Husband framework, helping them rebuild connection, trust, and harmony in their relationships. What I love about Quentin is that he's not coming in with fluffy theory. He's a jujitsu guy, an Ironman finisher, a husband, a dad and a dude who speaks straight to the hearts and minds of driven men. His whole thing? Turning guys from “just financial providers” into emotional leaders who actually create a marriage they're proud of. And this matters big time, because as Quentin said, he's seen more businesses collapse not from a lack of strategy, but from unresolved marriage problems draining energy, focus, and peace of mind.In the episode, Quentin breaks down his Black Belt Husband system—five pillars that any man (and honestly, any couple) can use to uplevel the relationship. We jam on why most marriage advice is written “by women for women,” how he reframed the whole game for men, and how those same leadership principles we use in business can and should be applied at home. Here are a few key takeaways from our conversation that really hit hard:You are the leader who sets the tone and temperature.Quentin's first pillar is simple and convincing: as a husband, you are the leader who sets the tone and the temperature of the relationship. Just like a CEO is ultimately responsible for the culture and performance of the company, you are ultimately responsible for the health of the relationship. That doesn't mean she's a child or you're a dictator; it means extreme ownership. The moment a man fully accepts that, everything changes.Only fight with yourself, never with her. This one is a paradigm shift. Instead of blaming your wife every time something triggers you, “Why did you do that?”Quentin teaches men to ask, “What is it about me that's so bothered by this?” That inner work changes the game. It breaks the blame cycle, reduces fighting, and creates emotional safety. And when safety goes up? Intimacy and connection go up too. As Quentin said, most guys want more sex, more affection, more closeness—but they're throwing temper tantrums instead of doing the inner work.Be intolerant of bad behavior (hers and yours).Pillar three is about boundaries and standards. Quentin shared stories of guys tolerating things they'd never accept in any other part of life like being disrespected or even physically hit, because they've been conditioned to “just let it go” to be a “good husband.” The problem? That leads to resentment and passive-aggressive behavior. Being intolerant of bad behavior doesn't mean being controlling or harsh, it means clearly and calmly saying, “That doesn't work for me,” and holding a standard for how you give and receive love in the relationship. And yes, this includes being intolerant of your own bad behavior too.Take full responsibility for your thoughts, feelings, and actions.Quentin talks about how many men live in a “doom and gloom” mental loop about their marriage, only seeing what's wrong, replaying disappointments, and quietly checking out. He helps guys flip that by taking radical responsibility for what they think, feel, and do. That includes practicing gratitude, appreciation, and shifting your perspective from “What's wrong with her?” to “How can I show up better?” The same way we approach improving team performance or profits, we can approach creating a more loving, connected relationship.Fill your cup so you can give it away. The fifth pillar might be the most important: you can't be a great husband, dad, or leader if you're running on empty. Quentin sees it all the time, high achievers going a million miles an hour, then coming home with zero energy, zoning out on their phones, and missing the moments that matter. He helps men embrace self-care without guilt: jujitsu, gym time, guy time, hobbies, whatever restores your battery. It's not selfish—it's strategic. When you fill your own cup, you can give from overflow instead of resentment. Nobody wants to be married to a martyr. The big thread running through all of this? Most men are making one core mistake: they're over-indexed on being financial providers and underdeveloped as emotional providers. They're watering the business and starving the marriage, and then wondering why both feel harder than they need to.Quentin's reminder is powerful: if you want to win in business, prioritize your marriage. Not only because it's the right thing to do but because a peaceful, connected home is rocket fuel for your performance everywhere else. And the beautiful part? He says you can have an epic marriage in less than 10 minutes a day when you know what to do and you do it with intention. It's not about more time; it's about better presence. If you're a high-performing entrepreneur, creator, or leader who wants to be successful and deeply connected at home, not just rich and lonely this episode is a must-listen. Quentin gives you real talk, tangible frameworks, and a vision for what's possible when you go “all in” on being a Black Belt Husband. What does Happy Hustlin mean to you? Quentin says the magic sauce of life is to know how to merge those two components together, you know, how to be ambitious, how to be creative, how to be a conqueror, go out and build something epic. Finding the right kind of help shouldn't feel complicated - but between long waitlists, confusing titles, and church mixed messages about therapy, it often does.In the final part of the Do No Harm series, Laurie and licensed therapist Kati Quigley talk about what makes finding help so hard, and why it's still worth the effort. Together, they unpack the difference between a counselor, coach, and spiritual director, why “biblical counseling” can unintentionally do harm, and how to find affordable, faith-aligned options that actually support healing.Connect with Kati Quigley: katiquigleycounseling.orgJoin our free Facebook Community: www.facebook.com/groups/smallchurchministryRate, Review, & Follow Laurie on Apple Podcasts"I love Laurie and The Small Church Ministry Podcast!!"

Around this time of year, people begin to evaluate their life choices and circumstances. Relationships are no different. It's a great to reflect on what is working well, what isn't, and maybe even what is no longer worth pursuing. In fact, many people find themselves in break-ups, separation, and divorce on the tail-end of the holidays. My guest today, Licensed Therapist, John Kim, joins me to talk about the different types of break-ups and breakdowns that occur in romantic relationships. But we also talk about common themes you see in ending relationships (and, how to avoid them), the differences between healthy and unhealthy love, how ruptures in a relationship can lead to some of the biggest relational breakthroughs, how to communicate what you need without coming across needy, obnoxious, or over-bearing, and so much more.
