Isaac Sutton joins us for our first venture into Japanese anime! Takeshi Koike's visually dazzling animated sci-fi racing spectacle Redline failed to find its audience upon its release in August 2009 despite critical praise. Does it deserve the cult status it's been cultivating on physical media since then, or is it all rev and no substance? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Christmastime is almost here, and there's a Gundam coming down everyone's stocking in the new year! A pleasant surprise, for sure, and a good tiding of cheer in the wake of Crunchyroll changing the rules of their "awards" show in totally inconspicuous fashion that has nothing to do with a certain show airing this year about aliens and ghosts. And along with that, there are some fun movies coming out (and some that are not-as-fun), some notable dub casts announced for the new year, the Rascal dub situation is FINALLY mostly sorted out after an entire year, and a look at how the manga sales went for the year and who's at the top of the mountain for 2024 - along with much more, with one more show to come before the new year. It's going to be Jump Festa. Call it a late Christmas gift from all of us to all of you. EDITOR'S NOTE: Well, this took a lot of time to get together, didn't it? Apologies for the delay, this was recorded over a week ago and it's been a particularly rough week, so that's why it took so long to get out. Available to purchase or rent on Amazon Prime, Google Play and YouTube, and it's free to stream on Tubi and Vudu.

Host, Dany Roth, is joined by associate editor at Anime News Network, Jacob Chapman to talk about Madhouse Studios's Redline. This is one of a rare breed: an anime film from the late 2000s that's almost completely hand drawn. Directed by the legendary Takeshi Koike, Redline is sort of like if Wacky Races was about a dystopian totalitarian future with fascist robots. Chapman breaks down what makes this oft-forgotten oddity a must-see.

It's finally time to dig up and release those dozen reviews we recorded over the summer I never got around to releasing! Since The Ancient Magus's Bride anime has finally premiered on Crunchyroll, it seemed high time to post our thoughts on the first three episodes of the series, which we watched back in July thanks to Crunchyroll's Anime Movie Night. Was The Ancient Magus's Bride as enchanting as its reputation suggests? It won't take you long to find out! That isn't the only review on this episode though! We also share our thoughts on Takeshi Koike's badass new Lupin III flick The Blood Spray of Goemon Ishikawa. This is one of the rare Lupin III features to focus on the theif's iconic samurai sidekick, but was the movie really about him? We discuss the pros and cons of the film as well as what we'd like to see from the Lupin III Koike-verse in the future! Thundering across the stars to save the universe from mundane minds, Grind Pulp Podcast explodes into battle. This time around MangaMatt takes pole position in the high octane thrill-ride, “Redline.” Racers from across the galaxy ride for fame, glory, and their lives. Jeronimo speculates the social interplay of the movie and the deeper commentary of society's obsession with sports. MangaMatt highlights the quality visuals and influences at play and how they gel with the style and narrative. Andrew attempt to move beyond Jeronimo’s obsession with JP’s character, or lack of character story. Redline showcases style over substance and moves at a brisk pace. This episode is no different. Strap in and listen as the Grind Pulp Podcast peels away from the starting line of the new year. Feature Presentation: REDLINE (2009) directed by Takeshi Koike

Science fiction films written and directed by The Wachowskis, starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano. They depict a dystopian future in which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality called "the Matrix", created by sentient machines to subdue the human population, while their bodies' heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source.
