Friday, 28 April 2023 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” Acts 16:17 In the previous verse, the girl with the spirit of Python was introduced. Of her, Luke now continues with, “This girl followed Paul and us.” Depending on the Greek text, the verb is either an aorist or a present participle – “having followed” or “following.” The narrative is being carefully described by Luke to show the action as if it is occurring while being read. In his words, Luke continues with the first person, including himself with the others. It is apparent that he wasn't just with the group, but that they were often together as they headed out for prayer and evangelism. As they went, the girl had followed them, “and cried out, saying.” Now, the verb is imperfect. She cried out and kept crying out. One can imagine how annoying it would be to have someone constantly following behind and yelling out the same thing as they continued along. In this case, Luke says that she was crying out, “These men are the servants of the Most High God.” Luke doesn't give the reason for her constant crying out. Nor can we infer from the words where the emphasis of them was. Placing the stress on various words within the statement changes the meaning and intent of what was being said – * THESE men are the servants of the Most High God. This might be the girl's way of ridiculing the men. * These MEN are the servants of the Most High God. As everyone around was probably aware of her spirit of Python, she may be comparing her known abilities to the unproven abilities of the men, as if the feminine had proven itself whereas they had not. * These men are the SERVANTS of the Most High God. In this, she could contrast the authority she supposedly possessed in herself with the lowly nature of being a servant to someone else, even if it is the Most High God. * These men are the servants of the MOST HIGH God. Such a statement would contrast her proven abilities to a supposed God above all gods, challenging Him to prove himself. One of these, or any other of such stresses can change our perception of the intent of what is being conveyed. Without hearing the words or having a suitable description it is hard to be dogmatic. Likewise, the overall purpose for her calling these things out cannot be known for sure. Albert Barnes gives several possible reasons – (1) That as she prophesied for gain, she supposed that Paul and Silas would reward her if she publicly proclaimed that they were the servants of God. Or, (2) Because she was conscious that an evil spirit possessed her, and she feared that Paul and Silas would expel that spirit, and by proclaiming them to be the servants of God she hoped to conciliate their favor. Or, (3) More probably it was because she saw evident tokens of their being sent from God, and that their doctrine would prevail; and by proclaiming this she hoped to acquire more authority, and a higher reputation for being herself inspired. Compare Mark 5:7. A fourth reason could be that a war waged within her and, unlike Barnes' second reason, she may actually have been hoping that Paul and Silas would expel it from her. No matter what, she annoyingly followed after them repeatedly crying out her message. As for the message itself, she was calling out that they were servants of the Most High God “who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” Again, this could be mocking, provoking, being dismissive, etc. Without knowing the emphasis in the words and in her voice, it is very hard to know exactly what her intent was. No matter what, the message she proclaimed was the truth regardless of how she presented it in her crying out. Life application: It is often asked if a believer can be possessed by a demon. Although the Bible does not directly answer the question, the answer still seems obvious. If a person is in Christ, that person cannot be possessed by a demon. The thoughts are incompatible. Having said that, believers can certainly be afflicted by the devil and his demons. That is made clear in many verses, two are – “...give no place to the devil.” Ephesians 4:27 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the whiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11 Such verses would be pointless if we could not be afflicted by the devil. In order to keep from being so afflicted, it is our responsibility to apply the word of God to our lives. In doing this, we will be prepared and protected against him and his demons. But we cannot do this without knowing the Bible. KNOW YOUR BIBLE. Glorious God Almighty, thank You for the surety of our salvation in Christ. And thank You that we are secure from being possessed by the enemy because of that. And thank You for Your word that can keep us from even being afflicted by him when we apply its precepts to our lives. How grateful we are to You. Amen.

We went and saw Men and, for most men it will be a similar viewing experience to staring into a mirror for an hour and a half. @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website (1:40) - Intro(6:10) -Synopsis(8:15) -Review(23:00) -Score(25:15) -Spoilers(1:26:15) - Taglines(1:31:45) - Horror Movie WHOORES https://youtu.be/HKJ4Thgk1Js Synopsis Men is a movie about a woman named Harper (Jessie Buckley), because of course you can't have men without women - or can you? Harper has recently lost her husband to a fit of passion that looks an awful lot like a spiteful suicide on his part. She has decided to take a vacation in the countryside to get her wits about herself and is met by a bunch of MEN. These MEN range from pleasantly goofy to downright terrifying. One through line with all the MEN she encounters is that they are all somewhat simple, aloof, or pleasantly dimwitted. There is one exception to that rule in the priest. As her stay in the countryside progresses she is visited by a spectre of manhood, and her experiences become increasingly more surreal and alarming. She calls the police to help her, but the police department is full of MEN. As things spiral out of control, the audience is given a barrage of horrendous body horror that is clearly meant to depict the female/male dichotomy in the most unpleasant ways imaginable. Harper definitely gets more MEN than she bargained for. Review Men is an interesting movie and the third full length feature film that writer, director Alex Garland has made. Because it was made by a man, I feel comfortable saying that its pretty accurate. Although, it's somewhat problematic that Garland assumes to know what the female perspective is, which could be said to be his inherent male privilege shining through. Men is an attempt to satirize males and give the audience a reference point for what it might be like living as a woman. It takes symbolism to the next level by starting as a straight ahead narrative story that slowly morphs into a nightmare of dreamlike sequences that can't possibly be real. It shares a lot in common with the recent Finish movie Hatching (Pahanhautoja) in that it is an allegory that will probably be the hardest to watch for those who would most benefit from it. There are undeniable truths within the subtle feelings provided by Men that are so on-the-nose that they can't be summed up in words. Watch MenBuy or Rent on AmazonClick here to Watch Many will take issue with this movie for a variety of reasons, but the only issue I have with it is the title. By titling this movie “Men” it betrays a bias, and others those who would benefit the most from watching it. “Toxic masculinity” as a label would probably be a much more effective term that everyone was able to agree on if it weren't othering males and was instead just referred to as “Toxicity”. Perhaps the best way to heal divisions and painful histories is to work together to end the trend of “othering” those who have wronged us, and try our best to forgive, while acknowledging our differences. This movie does that - it acknowledges the differences between men and women while pointing out the issues that many men have. The title was chosen to be divisive, and take advantage of the angst present between men and women, which is ironic because the content of the movie does a decent job of being fair to men and women alike. It's a well-done movie, if very slow in some parts. People who will enjoy Men might include: WomenOpen-minded menBody horror fansPsychological horror fansThriller fans People who probably won't enjoy Men might include: Toxic peopleMany menThose who don't do well with gore and body horror Score 8/10

Our listeners have heard much about Frank Laumer. Twice, he led a team to walk the 60-plus mile route of Dade's fatal march. He co-founded the Seminole Wars Foundation. He authored three books. With the immediacy and intensity of a novel, his Massacre! tells the story of Dade's battle. He followed this up with Dade's Last Command, a fact-based chronicle of the overall march, Finally, he penned a novel, Nobody's Hero, about Private Ransom Clark, one of only three soldier survivors of the battle. In the summer of 2019, Drs Scot French and Amy Giroux, from University of Central Florida, visited Frank Laumer at his Dade City home, Talisman. They sought to hear from Frank Laumer himself about his research practices and to hear his thoughts on some contentious aspects of the Dade Battle itself and the Second Seminole War in general. Since he began his research in the early 1960s, the late Frank Laumer's research, books and articles on the Dade battle and the Seminole War have informed and inspired many. One inspired group is the Veterans' Legacy Project or VLP at the University of Central Florida. Project Director Dr. Scot French said Frank's research and writings are at the heart of the VLP and are a great inspiration to the team. [We have invited Dr French to join us in a later episode of the Seminole Wars podcast to share more fully just what that important and noble project is all about and how the Seminole Wars provide ample material. We have also invited UCF's Dr. Amy Giroux to discuss her project for identifying every Second Seminole War soldier at eternal rest under the three memorial pyramids at St Augustine's National Cemetery.] Regular Florida Frontiers radio program contributor, Holly Baker, recorded the session and in October 2019 produced a 10-minute segment. Florida Frontiers is the weekly radio program/podcast of the Florida Historical Society. Holly is the Society's Public History Coordinator as well as the archivist for the Society's Library of Florida History in Cocoa. She and the Society graciously shared their interview recording with us to give our listeners an extended opportunity to hear from Frank Laumer in his own words. The Seminole Wars Foundation extends our great gratitude for this opportunity. We have adapted that interview with minor edits for clarity and narrative flow. About a month after Holly's Florida Frontiers feature aired, Frank Laumer died, Nov. 18, 2019. Coincidentally – or not – that was the same day that Ransom Clark died, back in 1840. Clark was only in his twenties; Frank Laumer departed this world at the ripe age of 92. On Frank Laumer's next birthday, March 4, 2020, his daughter Suzanne ("Shorty") sprinkled his ashes on the grave of Ransom Clark in New York state, uniting the two men in perpetuity. This week mark's the second anniversary since his death. In this episode, we present Frank Laumer in his own words. We encounter his folksy personality. We hear his strong opinions on certain matters related to the Seminole Wars. We learn firsthand what a persistent, tenacious attitude he had. He turned over many stones, so to speak, to uncover forgotten or neglected accounts about what he termed, “This Land, These Men.” Although this graduate of the school of hard knocks declaimed being anything akin to a scholar, Frank Laumer's body of work says differently. He himself would merely say he was a seeker of historical truth, wherever it might lead him. He quipped that while he was in the land development business, not the digging up bodies business, to discover the truth, digging up bodies sometimes became essential. One literal stone he overturned was – a headstone -- that belonging to Ransom Clark. Frank Laumer did so to determine if Clark had been truthful about his Dade battle injuries. A fascinating story followed where at least one dead man did tell tales. On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the Seminole Wars Foundation presented Frank Laumer with a seldom seen image featuring Guy LaBree's painting of U.S. Army Private Ransom Clark evading Seminole pursuers after the Dade Battle of 1835. In his interview, Frank Laumer issued an open invitation for scholars to inspect his research materials. He very much desired for future generations to continue this study – enabled from one central comprehensive repository of books, pamphlets, letters, diaries, memoirs, maps, in print or, where possible, in digital form. That dream will soon become a reality when the Seminole Wars Foundation completes its Frank Laumer Library of the Seminole Wars in Bushnell. It contains more than 500 books related to the Seminole Wars in some fashion, along with priceless survey maps, unpublished letters, and an extensive digital archive of articles, photographs, period newspapers, podcasts – ahem -- and videos. When complete, the Laumer Library will be fully and digitally catalogued for ease of research by visiting scholars to the Foundation's homestead. Host Patrick Swan is a board member with the Seminole Wars Foundation. He is a combat veteran and of the U.S. Army, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Kosovo, and at the Pentagon after 9/11. A military historian, he holds masters degrees in Public History, Communication, and Homeland Security, and is a graduate of the US Army War College with an advanced degree in strategic studies. Most people have heard of werewolves or as we call them today 'Bipedal Canines, but few of have heard of the ancient race of dog-headed men, known as the Cynocephali. A Cynocephalus was essentially a man with the head of a dog. These Men could understand language but had no ability to speak and were said to communicate by barks and sign language. Though they are sometimes depicted in artwork as being civilised, they were by other reports called savage beasts who lived to hunt and to kill. While this may sound like just another mythical creature, a tale told around camp fires to scare people away from the woods, there are very good reasons to believe that the Cynocephali may have actually existed. One reason we think they existed is that these dog-headed men were described in reports by famous explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Marco Polo!If you would like to join our Worldwide community please contact us using debbiehatswell@gmail.com. I have a few Alphas I follow on Twitter who are absolutely stunning black Alphas. These Men are not some blow-dried Insta-Doms that we see littering the landscape of the BDSM community. They aren't posers. What they are - true Alpha Bulls in the most powerful sense of the word. All three of these Men live lives of constant worship from countless faggots. They travel from city to city, absolutely raping the fuck out of faggots and receiving adoration from the stunned masses witnessing it. They are three of the great black Supreme Alphas walking among us today. As a little white faggot, they inspire me to surrender myself even more deeply. Here they are: The above Alpha goes by the handle @850BDT. I'm sure the "BD" in his name stands for BIG DICK, because that's exactly what he has. He also knows how to use it. Listen to his orgasm at the end! HOLY FUCK! The sound of him cumming could knock down walls, which is what he just finished doing with that faggot! I LOVE @850BDT! Next up we have the glorious David (@DfromtheChi), a Chicago Alpha who absolutely loves getting sloppy head. He's always cruising the streets, ready to drag a faggot into a car, kick back, and let it do its job! This guy is pure Alpha! And finally, I come to my Master Alpha, Mario (@MARIOGOTSTROKE). I must tell you that this Alpha Predator owns faggot pussy like nobody I've ever seen. I've served plenty of hung, aggressive black Alphas in my day, but I don't think I've ever encountered a creature of such focused power and dominance. He doesn't make love to faggots ... he doesn't even rape them. He DESTROYS THEM. But here's the truth - I've gotten to know him a little bit (as far as online interaction goes), and he's truly one of the kindest Gods you will ever meet. When he isn't pulverizing your pussy, you can feel very safe serving him at his feet! I'm going to add one more for good measure - the extremely vocal black Alpha IssaNut (@NutIssa). I love the way he talks while he strokes his big, slicked-up Alpha cock! Got any favorites of your own? Let me know!

During World War II, the Allies feared that Germany was on the brink of creating an atomic bomb. To prevent this, they launched a dramatic midnight commando raid to destroy a key piece of equipment in the mountains of southern Norway. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll remember Operation Gunnerside, "one of the most daring and important undercover operations of World War II."
