The wheel on the show keeps on spinnin', but at least the spin is entertaining. Peacemaker goes head to fist with Flag, Leota may have a new career and there are astonishing revelations about Eagley. Also: is it too simple for the alternate Earth to be a white supremacist world, or does that actually offer Peacemaker a chance at the redemption he's long wanted? Before that: Tom Holland gets injured on the set of the new Spider-Man, we congratulate my girlfriend on her new Emmy and Doomsday finishes shooting. Plus: should Fantastic Four: First Steps have come out at Thanksgiving? And why you should always agree to be on any panel that invites you. If you don't care about this, skip to 48:51.This weekend we released the latest Watch Men, talking about Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. We're back with our full review of Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 5, “Back to the Suture.” In this podcast, we break down the latest entry in James Gunn's hit DC series, discussing the episode's biggest moments, character developments, and where the story might be heading next. Before diving into the episode, we kick things off with a cold open covering the 2025 Emmy Awards—including wins for Severance, The Penguin, The Pitt, and Andor. From there, we get into the heart of Episode 5. While “Back to the Suture” is fun and packed with Peacemaker's signature humor, it doesn't move the overall story forward as much as we'd like. With Episodes 4 and 5 running shorter than usual, it feels like these two installments could've been combined into one stronger chapter. We discuss ARGUS's bizarre decision to release Peacemaker after a shady interrogation, the confusing fate of Red St. Wild at the talons of Eagly, and Chris Smith's shocking choice to live in the alternate Earth. Plus, we theorize on what's next for Emilia Harcourt, Vigilante, and the rest of our favorite misfits as the season heads toward its final three episodes.

What's best for skin closure at C-Section? Staples or suture? This debate has raged for over 20 years. Past data has shown greater odds of wound complications with metal staples compared to suture. But new a meta-analysis from June 2025 is challenging the prior results. In this episode, we will explore the data from 2010 to present day. Lately, there have been a lot of angry young people carrying flags that aren't red, white, and blue. One day you might find yourself in the midst of these unhappy folks, which is what we call "cruising for a bruising." Dr. Joe Alton tells you strategies on how to stay safe in times of civil unrest. Plus, the medic in times of trouble must have the knowledge and ability to close wounds when it's appropriate. We've talked about this subject many times, and how important it is to cultivate the judgment related to when to and when not to close a wound. You'll also need to know a little about the suture materials available to you, which you'll find in this episode! Lastly, you might be more likely to get hit by lightning than bitten by a shark, but it's not impossible if you go in the water and it's interesting to talk about! Dr. Bones tells you what to do. Also, a question from a listener of the podcast about the usefulness of the time-honored "Dakin's solution" for wound care. If you read most first aid guides, the last step in treating someone who's gotten injured or sick is always: get the victim to professional medical help. But what if you found yourself in a situation where hospitals were overcrowded, inaccessible, or non-functional? What if you found yourself in a grid-down, long-term disaster, and you were the highest medical resource available?Dr. Joe Alton is an expert in what would come after the step where most first aid guides leave off. He's a retired surgeon and the co-author of The Survival Medicine Handbook: The Essential Guide for When Help is NOT on the Way. Today on the show, Joe argues that every family should have a medical asset and how to prepare to be a civilian medic. We discuss the different levels of first aid kits to consider creating, from an individual kit all the way up to a community field hospital. And we talk about the health-related skills you might need in a long-term grid-down disaster, from burying a dead body, to closing a wound with super glue, to making an improvised dental filling, to even protecting yourself from the radiation of nuclear fallout.Resources Related to the PodcastAoM Article: How to Use a Tourniquet to Control Major BleedingAoM Article: The Complete Guide to Making a DIY First Aid KitAoM Article: How to Suture a WoundAoM Article: What Every Man Should Keep in His CarAoM Article: Improvised Ways to Close a WoundAoM Podcast #869: The Survival Myths That Can Get You Killed With Alone Winner Jim BairdConnect With Joe AltonDoom and Bloom websiteDoom and Bloom on YouTubeDoom and Bloom on FB

This week I'm continuing my series with Dr. Joel Minden, and we discussed a fun and interesting topic: psychotherapists in popular media, including film, TV, and comic strips. We explored what these depictions get right, the challenges of presenting therapy accurately, and why therapists so often are portrayed as buffoons. Specific topics we touched on included: Common therapist tropes in movies and TV shows The movie Mumford Richard Dreyfuss as Leo Marvin in the 1991 film What About Bob? The accelerated pace of change in dramatized versions of therapy Therapists pushing their patients to “go deeper” and explore painful parts of their lives The TV show Shrinking The “psychiatrist” Lucy Van Pelt in the Peanuts comic strip Robin Williams's portrayal of therapist Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting Steve Carrell as therapist Alan Strauss in The Patient Jennifer Melfi (played by Lorraine Bracco) on The Sopranos Gabriel Byrne as therapist Paul Weston on In Treatment The iconic tissue pass in therapy The potentially big impact of small interventions in therapy, and in life Harry Stack Sullivan's Interpersonal Theory and Psychotherapy (affiliate link) The movie Suture and psychogenic amnesia Larry David's therapist on Curb Your Enthusiasm The power dynamics of chairs in therapy office Joel Minden, PhD, is a clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and related disorders.
