Robert Winfree, Alexis Hejna, Dorian Price and Mark Radulich present their Abigail 2024 Movie Review!Abigail is a 2024 American vampire horror comedy film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. Based on and a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula's Daughter, the film stars Alisha Weir as the eponymous daughter of Count Dracula, alongside Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito.A reboot of Dracula's Daughter was announced to be in development in April 2023, with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett attached as directors, and Shields and Busick hired to write the screenplay. The project was stated to be a modern-day adaptation of one of the Universal Classic Monsters characters similar in approach to The Invisible Man (2020) or Renfield (2023), with the synopsis being described as "a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate classic characters".Abigail had its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on April 7, 2024, and was theatrically released in the United States by Universal Pictures on April 19, 2024. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and has grossed $15 million worldwide.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76
On this weeks episode of The Theme Park Podcast, Jimmy talks about his trip to see Neil Patrick Harris at Epcot! Plus in the news, farewell to Space Mountain in Tokyo, a new tiki mug, plus Danny Elfman is composing the Universal Classic Monsters area of Epic Universe.
This week we are time traveling back to the 1930's to examine the legacy of the Universal Monster Movies. Why is it that these classic films about gothic castles, mad scientists, vampires, mummies, and more have for nearly 100 years captivated our collective imaginations? Could it be that these films were made so well? Or maybe that the filmmakers themselves brought elements of their own personalities to these characters. We'll find out today as we examine the classic monsters from Universal Studios. DISCORD!!! Take the conversation further! Eldrad must live! On what is her 18th story with the Doctor, we wave goodbye to Sarah Jane Smith (for now at least). She's had a bit of a torrid time during her tenure in the TARDIS, and The Hand of Fear is no exception, as she gets possessed by the evil Eldrad. This serial has everything – silicon despots, hospitals, nuclear horror, mind control (ah, that old chestnut!), and, of course, a scarf-trip! Join us as we discuss the advantages of closed captions, the universal art of quilting, Gallifrey being in Ireland, cats on synthesizers, Sarah trolling the Doctor, and the sad case of what is likely the end of Professor Watson's career. It's a fun-packed episode, so make sure you listen in to this one! The Invisible Man may be one of the most underrepresented monsters in the classic Universal pantheon but that doesn't prevent him from being my favorite. On this episode I discuss the Invisible Man series from the 1930s and 40s, and the modern reimagining, as well as how and why we take mad science to a terrifying level in horror storytelling.Follow us on:Facebook.com/CaffeineAndScreamsPodcastInstagram @CaffeineAndScreamsPodcastTwitter @ ScreamsCaffeine

The Invisible Man (1933), The Invisible Man Returns (1940), and The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944). In the pantheon of Universal Classic Monsters, some might say the Invisible Man is the least terrifying in the monster heritage, or maybe even bordering on if they even belong in the horror genre. In this episode, we're going to delve into three of the films in Universal's Invisible series, for the most part, stay within the horror genre, though, that argument will be addressed as well! We're leaving out The Invisible Woman and Invisible Agent, since they are pretty much either a comedy or a war time action film. Join us as we try to "see" more into these films that maybe aren't as "transparent" to the casual viewer who might have missed something. Or maybe we're seeing too much and not finding them too entertaining. Want to know? You'll have to listen and find out! Movies mentioned in this episode: Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948), Abbott & Costello Meet the Invisible Man (1951), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Hollow Man (2000), Invisible Agent (1942), The Invisible Man (1933), The Invisible Man (2020), The Invisible Man Return (1940), The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944), The Invisible Woman (1940), The Mummy (1932), The Mummy's Hand (1940), Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932), The Phantom Creeps (1939), The Phantom of the Opera (1943), Rio Bravo (1959), The Unseen (2016), The Wolf Man (1941)
It's time for our annual spooktacular Halloween Who-rror special! This year, we discuss two horror movies featuring the stars of Doctor Who, starting with Hammer Horror's Dracula (also known as “The Horror of Dracula” - featuring Peter Cushing), followed by the Amicus anthology The Vault of Horror (featuring Tom Baker). It's a wild ride this episode, as we touch on topics as varied as Chap Hop (yes, it's a thing!), the worst insurance scam ever, erroneous claims of being the first person to make Dracula “sexy”, American censorship, and, of course, everyone's favourite bounder, Terry-Thomas, in panties. It's time for a graveyard smash, weirdos! Welcome to another creep-tastic episode of KEEP IT WEIRD- the podcast for all things strange, unusual and... classic? This week we're taking a trip back in time to chat about UNIVERSAL CLASSIC MONSTERS!! And.... one DC character, but we'll get to that. Ashley & Lauren are joined once again by our monster expert BILLY ROACH as we take a look at who created these monsters and why. Billy starts us off by covering FRANKENSTEIN; the fascinating details of how and where it was written by Mary Shelley, as well as the various film versions of the creature and movies and monsters that have been inspired by the stitched-together-man over the decades! Ashley comes in with THE INVISIBLE MAN! What were HG Well's inspirations for creating this man who couldn't be seen? The amazing special effects that haven't been beated so far from a movie made in 1933, why Hollow Man is the best interpretation of this character in the 21st Century, and why The Invisible Man (2020) is actually NOT a good movie. And finally, Lauren. Poor Lauren, who was given the assignment of "Swamp Thing" because Ashley didn't know there was a difference between SWAMP THING and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. But guess what? SHE KNOWS NOW! Lauren dives into both the fish man AND the plant man in her segment-- teaching us the origins of Swamp Thing in DC Comics, the various past iterations of the monster on film and even some upcoming projects to look forward to featuring this man-plant. This is a REPLAY podcast, where we revisit some of our early hidden gems, compilations, and most popular episodes. Episode specific description:Classic horror expert Tom Weaver joins the podcast for a fun-filled look at some of his favorite Universal Classic Monster films. Rather than detailing all four of the new to 4K films in the Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Volume 2 release, Tom picks a favorite scene from each movie and a “why'd they do that” moment. We start with 1931's classic “The Mummy” starring Boris Karloff and Zita Johann and directed by Karl Freund. Next, we talk about the 1935 science fiction horror classic “The Bride of Frankenstein," starring Boris Karloff, Elsa Lanchester Colin Clive, and Ernest Thesiger and directed by James Whale. This sequel to the 1931 “Frankenstein” broke new ground with a monster that could talk and that ultimately wanted a wife. Next, we discuss the 1943 romantic horror film “Phantom of the Opera” starring Claude Rains and Susanna Foster and directed by Arthur Rubin. The fourth film we review is the 1954 3D film “Creature from the Black Lagoon” starring Richard Carlson and Julie Adams and directed by Jack Arnold. And we wrap up the discussion with a fun-filled rapid-fire segment about all eight of the films in both volumes 1 and 2.Purchase on Amazon:Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Vol. 2 4KUniversal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Vol. 1 4K The Extras Facebook pageThe Extras Twitter Warner Archive & Warner Bros Catalog GroupOtaku Media produces podcasts, behind-the-scenes extras, and media that connect creatives with their fans and businesses with their consumers. Do you want some more classic monsters? We've got loads of classic monsters! After dipping our toes into the Universal Classic Monsters franchise last week, we've decided to go back in for more and see Boris Karloff as The Mummy. Before it was an action-adventure film with Brendan Fraser, it was a horror film from 1932. Does it hold up? Is the actor who played Van Helsing in Dracula back for this one as well? Did the 1999 film ignore the original plot or do have similar story beats? It's a big one this week! We're doing the first two movies in the Universal Classic Monsters franchise, both of which came out in 1931. First up, it's the incredibly iconic Dracula. Yep, THE Dracula film, the one with Bela Lugosi. Wow! And then we check out Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff in the role of The Monster. And because we love to gamify our movie reviews, we mash them together and make them battle them out in our first Bonus Battle of the year!0:08:00 - Dracula (1931)0:28:13 - Frankenstein (1931)0:46:47 - Bonus Battle!![Please note that timecodes will be a minute or two off due to ad placements.]Join the Bad Porridge Club on Patreon for TWO bonus episodes each month! https://www.patreon.com/oldiebutagoodiepodFollow the show!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oldiebutagoodiepod/Facebook: https://fb.me/oldiebutagoodiepodYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfdXHxK_rIUsOEoFSx-hGAPodcast Platforms: https://linktr.ee/oldiebutagoodiepodGot feedback? Classic horror expert Tom Weaver joins the podcast for a fun-filled look at some of his favorite Universal Classic Monster films. Next, we talk about the 1935 science fiction horror classic “The Bride of Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff, Elsa Lanchester Colin Clive, and Ernest Thesiger and directed by James Whale. And we wrap up the discussion with a fun-filled rapid-fire segment about all eight of the films in both volumes 1 and 2.Join with other Monster and Sci-fi fans at the Classic Horror Film BoardPurchase on Amazon:Universal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Vol. 2 4KUniversal Classic Monsters: Icons of Horror Vol. 1 4K The Extras Facebook pageThe Extras Twitter Otaku Media produces podcasts, behind-the-scenes extras, and media that connect creatives with their fans and businesses with their consumers. Universal Orlando Resort is building a new theme park, Epic Universe. Featuring Super Nintendo World, and rumored to feature lands surrounding Universal Classic Monsters, How to Train Your Dragon, and something from the Harry Potter universe, this could be a huge addition to the Orlando-area. Beware the beat of the cloth-wrapped feet! From tombs beneath the scorching desert sand, it's a four-way battle to the death! Which movie endures the curse and earns the right to be called The Mummy?Contender 1: The Mummy (1932). Boris Karloff, fresh off of his sensational performance as Frankenstein's monster a year earlier, has become THE theatrical attraction for Universal Pictures! So why not dig up another role for the uncanny Karloff? But since Bela Lugosi had already delivered as the world's most famous vampire, how about a Dracula-like tale of another cursed creature who rises from a tomb?Contender 2: The Mummy (1959). Not to be outdone, Hammer Films were on a roll with their own interpretations of colorful classic monsters. Their early horrors seemed most effective when starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, which should be a given. But the behind the camera pairing of director Terence Fisher and writer Jimmy Sangster owe a great deal to the quality and success, as well.Contender 3: The Mummy (1999). We jump ahead forty years, to an Indiana Jones-inspired adventure movie, with 90s-perfected CGI special effects. But how well do those visual effects hold up more than twenty years later? It does seem as though the new millennium era cast of attractive young faces, led by Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and Arnold Vosloo, may be the only visuals that many viewers are concerned about.Contender 4: The Mummy (2017). It was supposed to be a new launching point for Universal's attempt at a classic monster-filled cinematic "Dark Universe." But even the star power of Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe could not prevent this from becoming a critical and financial failure. Is this new tale, which seems to want to incorporate some of the 1999 film's adventure elements, with the wrinkle of a female mummy, really as bad as its reputation would have you believe?
Troy Brownfield completes your roster for the Summer of '82 at 40 music video series guests. Happy Spooky Wednesday! We're going full Universal Classic Monsters on y'all with tales of a vampire and a mummy! Brittany takes us over to London to talk about High Gate Cemetery and its resident sharp-toothed fiend. And Kala talked about the case of The Priestess if Amen-Ra, also sometimes referred to as The Unlucky Mummy. This mummy board is rumored to have caused the sinking of the Titanic. What did we learn this week? 1.) Grown men will use vampires as an excuse for a sword and sorcery duel. And they aren't just LARPing. 2.) White people in the 1800s had absolutely no qualms about desecrating graves. 3.) Even if something is haunted or cursed, people will spend a lot of money to get in or get it. 4.) Kala and Brittany will always find a reason to talk about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it just so happens that this week there is a good excuse. It's alive! We return from our two week slumber, following the A-Z of Horror Festival, to bring you a special episode. It's time for the 90th Anniversary of a Universal Monsters classic. Get ready for a Boris Karloff and Frankenstein lovefest, as we go into depth on the original 1931 classic! And then from there, a little tease of what's to come on the podcast in the coming months.
Weird History: The Unexpected and Untold Chronicles of History
The Mummy franchise traces its roots to the 1930s, when Boris Karloff portrayed the historic embalmed character at the height of the Universal Classic Monsters heyday. The first film, made in 1932, framed Imhotep as a mummy carrying an ancient curse. But Imhotep was a real-life priest in ancient Egypt, and he wasn't anything like his character in The Mummy movies. So who was Imhotep? The real Imhotep lived around 2600 BCE and was one of the first recorded geniuses in world history. He was an engineer, a physician, a politician, and a priest. Over the course of his life, he worked his way through the Egyptian ranks to hold a key position in the governments of two different pharaohs. He was also the mastermind behind the first pyramid. #Imhotep #AncientEgpyt #WeirdHistory Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
