After emigrating from Cuba to the U.S. at age ten, Georges Gonzalez struggled to find his voice and his passion. It took joining the Civil Air Patrol and, later, the Air Force to boost his confidence and instill a work ethic he'd carry with him for years. He began his post-military career as a delivery driver for Coca-Cola, where he quickly moved up the ranks. But after working for the company for more than a decade, Georges took a buy-out in 2015. Before long, he was on to his next adventure, working in the water utility sector, starting in Pinellas County in west-central Florida. Today, he's the director of enterprise solutions for water resources in nearby Hillsborough County, Florida. This week on With Great Power, Georges talks about how his team is evaluating AI tools for improving its customer service representative training, among other functions. Georges explains the county government's careful approach to using artificial intelligence, how department staff have reacted to it, and how the water resources team is testing the technology. In this week's episode of "Money" Market, host Owen LaFave and Julie Larsen, a leading real estate agent with Michael Saunders & Company, discuss what's actually happening in Pinellas County. From hurricane recovery and flood zone distortions to why some homes are flying off the market while others sit untouched, this conversation is packed with local insight you won't find online. Julie explains why Zillow's numbers miss the mark, how condo legislation reshaped the market overnight, and why move-in-ready homes are the only sure bet right now. This week on "Money" Market, the tables are turned as host Owen finds himself in the hot seat — interviewed by none other than his wife (and previous Money Market Podcast guest), Jessica Muroff, who also happens to be the CEO of United Way Suncoast. Listeners get a rare behind-the-mic look at Owen's journey from almost-med-student to respected banking leader and podcast voice. Jessica dives into the origin story of the podcast, Owen's career pivots, and why "relationships" keep coming up as the true currency of success. They laugh over Jessica once publicly dubbing him the Sexiest Man Alive (sorry, Brad Pitt), while also unpacking more serious lessons from the financial crisis, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Owen shares why he ditched the idea of "work-life balance" in favor of prioritization and purpose. This "Cheesehead" also explains what drew him to commercial real estate, how he built credibility in Pinellas County, and why culture matters more than money as a career progresses. Plus, he reveals how he accidentally became known as the "LinkedIn Economist." "Money" Market gets personal and professional with candid insights, thoughtful leadership lessons, and plenty of playful banter. In this episode, we bring back one of our favorite guests – and we're not just saying that because he's our boss. On his last visit you got to learn the history and career path that made Sheriff Bob Gualtieri the sheriff he is today. Now we talk more about some of the issues that are near and dear to the hearts of Pinellas County residents, and issues that have far-reaching implications across our country. When Sheriff Gualtieri sees a problem, he fixes it. That's why we have innovative, first of their kind programs like Safe Harbor, which diverts homeless people from jail to a safe shelter, or diversion programs to give young people or first-time minor offenders a second chance. He created the HOME Task Force to monitor the worst young offenders, and made a robust Threat Management Unit to identify problems at their earliest stage and nip them in the bud. You know that school safety is his top priority, and in addition to prevention, rapid response, and thorough investigation, he has added an innovative and much-needed component: family reunification. Find out why major crimes in Pinellas County are at historically low levels, how he'll keep you safer during the next hurricane, and why he's a hard man to categorize.Email us your questions and suggestions at lets56@pcsonet.comFollow PCSO: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTubeFollow 56: InstagramPCSO Website
