As Henry Rollins says, “knowledge without mileage, is B.S.” and so we're pausing our world tour to have a more academic conversation with Dr Rene Wiedner. Dr Wiedner is an associate professor of organization theory, at the University of Warwick - Coventry, and has been studying developments in vinyl record manufacturing for some time, with a particular interest in what happened between 1990 and 2015, a time when vinyl records were considered obsolete, and before the recent ‘vinyl revival'. He is currently writing an academic paper and a book on the topic, and joins us to discuss the importance of craft. And why we should be concerned with the preservation of skill, sharing knowledge, and how we learn and share manual skills. Here at Women in Vinyl, we are focused on creating educational opportunities and paving roads to jobs using that education. We finally say goodbye to Imperial, who have managed to stay in the competition against the odds and currently have the most points accumulated of any team. After this match, it is hard to imagine anything other than a win for Warwick, who last took the title all the way back in 2007. So long as Rout can remember his teammate's names, they look to be serious contenders for the final, and either Balliol or Magdalene have their work cut out!

In this Open Pod episode, Ciara and Lucy interview Bhavdeep from the University of Warwick. Warwick is a graduate-only medicine course, and so you must have already completed an undergraduate degree to apply. Postgraduate medicine is a common alternative route into medicine, and many people use their 5th choice option on UCAS to secure a place on an undergraduate course with the aim of becoming a doctor through a postgraduate degree. The graduate medicine programme at Warwick is a 4-year accelerated programme, and the entry requirements are based on your undergraduate degree (so you don't need to have AAA at A Level to apply). For 2021 entry, you must have an undergraduate degree at 2:1 or above, a UCAT score and 70 hours of work experience. The lowest UCAT score considered by their selection centre was 2570 in 2019. Listen to this episode to hear all about how students really find the course and get some top tips on how to get in! Comment any questions for Bhavdeep on her post on Instagram @howtobecomeadr!

Plenty of attention is being paid to the political and constitutional effects of Brexit, but what will its economic impact be on life’s most basic commodities? How did food prices inform the debate in the weeks and months leading up to the referendum, and how have they informed debate in the past? How have the spectres of want and hunger been invoked over the last century and a half in political contexts, and are we paying them enough attention now?
