When the colder months trigger grief, anxiety, or seasonal depression, Psalm 94:19 offers an anchor: God’s consolation brings real joy even when our hearts feel heavy. Fall and winter can stir painful memories, shorten our daylight, and intensify emotional weight—but these seasons don’t have to be walked alone. God meets us in the darkness, understands the sorrow we carry, and invites us to bring every fear, memory, and ache to Him for comfort and healing. Highlights Seasonal shifts can stir grief, trauma, or depression, making fall and winter emotionally overwhelming. Psalm 94:19 reminds us that God brings joy even when anxiety runs deep. Talking with God—and with trusted loved ones or professionals—creates space for healing. Painful seasons don’t mean you’re alone; God fully understands the weight you carry. New memories, community, and small steps of connection can help soften the heaviness. With God, joy can return even to seasons marked by loss or sorrow. Healing often comes slowly, but God remains present and tender with every step. Gift Inspiration: Crosswalk's Holiday Gift Guide Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate the season? Check out our Holiday Gift Guide—from beautifully illustrated Bibles and devotionals to novels, greeting cards, and picture books, there’s something for everyone on your list. Wrap up stories for loved ones, tuck a book into your own nightstand, and join us in celebrating the wonder of giving this Christmas! Full Transcript Below: When the Fall and Winter Seasons Feel HeavyBy Vivian Bricker Bible Reading:“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” - Psalm 94:19 Autumn is a season of beautiful leaves, crisp air, and an endless array of pumpkin-themed sweets. For many, the autumn season rings in fond memories and excitement for the upcoming holidays. However, for some, the colder months loom like a dark cloud. At one time, I, too, loved the autumn season as I was excited to see the leaves change, go trick-or-treating, and get ready for the start of the holiday season. However, each fall has a heaviness over it ever since my mom passed away a few autumns ago. Ever since then, it has been difficult to associate these months with anything else. Fall can be heavy, and it can be overwhelming at times for many of us. Perhaps, like me, you experienced a traumatic life event that clouds each autumn with sad memories. Or, perhaps you experience seasonal depression during the fall and winter - something that is common among many people. The days get shorter, and we’re left in darkness for much longer. Know that whatever it may be that is bringing heaviness into your life during this time, you are not alone. If you feel that fall is a difficult season to navigate, it is essential to talk with God as well as loved ones about what you are feeling. Reaching out to medical professionals can also be helpful if you ever have concerns about depression, anxiety, or thoughts of self-harm. Even if you only have minimal concerns around any of these things, be proactive about addressing them with your primary care provider. Intersecting Faith & Life: The Bible tells us, “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy” (Psalm 94:19). Although fall can bring much sorrow into our hearts, God can also bring joy into them. Whenever our hearts are full of anxiety, sorrow, or pain, we need to go to the Lord in prayer. God's consolation will bring us joy. God understands the pain we are feeling and how certain seasons can cause painful memories or depression to resurface. Despite the pain and heartbreak we are experiencing, God can help us to see the light of life again. Even if you think you will never enjoy fall again or you won't be able to walk into autumn without pain, know that it is more than possible. All things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). The heaviness may continue; however, try to allow God to heal your weary heart. God may provide healing through your family, friends, or spouse. Make new memories with those around you and treasure the memories of the past. We might always feel a bit heavy when fall comes around, but sometimes this heaviness can keep our loved ones close to our hearts. Why does this season feel especially heavy for you? How can you bring those things to God? He longs to bring joy to a weary heart - all you need to do is reach for Him. How do we make it through the difficult seasons that every marriage encounters? What does contentment look like when our circumstances aren't changing? For musicians Cubbie Fink and Rebecca St. James, they could not have predicted the many twists and turns life would take on after they said, "I do." Through the personal pain of miscarriage and fertility struggles, the ups and downs of two successful music careers, and the revelation of Cubbie's childhood trauma that needed healing, Cubbie and Rebecca have experienced difficult winter seasons that tested their marriage and their faith. But it was through those seasons that they found an invitation to grow and trust God in their lives together. They wrote about it in their new book, Lasting Ever: Faith, Music, Family and Being Found by True Love, which shares the heartaches and triumphs that shaped their story as a couple. In this episode, Davey sits down with Cubbie and Rebecca to discuss the different seasons that marriages often encounter, how to hold space for one another in pain, and why contentment is so important in the winters of our lives. If you're walking through a difficult season in your marriage or in life, this conversation will encourage you that even when it feels dark, God is always there beside you and that every winter season is a reminder that spring is coming. This episode is a special conversation between Jonathan & Melissa Helser and Chris Miller. They dive into what it means to live in the full range of emotions during winter seasons. They talk about how “Sadness is required to truly experience Joy” and what it means to share our feelings with the close people around us as well as talking about practices to stay centered in hard seasons. We hope that this conversation gives you new tools for any season you are in and tools for engaging with the seasons your friends or family are in.  This conversation was inspered by the realese of our new album Sing Winter. We have created a nostalgic winter album to honor the hope and the tenderness of the season. May you cherish moments that become sacred memories, and may you feel deeply met as you unapologetically honor the reverence, sorrow, and joy of life. It is in embracing every part of life that we know we are truly alive. Our prayer is that your winter season will sing, and that you will feel enveloped in the hope that Jesus brings. One way to better understand the different types of seasons we find ourselves in, is by observing the seasons of nature. This week, we explore the spiritual season of winter, and how God calls us to posture ourselves and respond in its midst.

"Bring me my coat and please come before Winter!" II Tim: 4:13 The Apostle Paul was alone, isolated from his family and friends, he needed them to bring him some things. Sometimes we are alone, or must stand alone in hard times. Jesus was left to stand alone before his hardest season. Winters are cold and cruel. We may also be in a type of cold winter or a season of cruelty, but know this: We are covered by the blood. A coat protects from storms. A coat covers, it comforts, and it clothes. These same three things Jesus did for us all. His blood shed on Calvary will carry us through these Winter Seasons.

This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Cycles and Seasons of Life (10) – Make Your Winter Seasons Count Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy podcast. This is Day 403 of our trek, and today is Philosophy Friday. Every Friday we will ponder some of the basic truths and mysteries of life and how they can impact us in creating our living legacy. Today we will complete our trek covering the Cycles and Seasons of Life. We will continue the winter season that we started last Friday and then wrap up the trek with a recap https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/personal-philosophy-jim-rohn-e1439505400958.png () We are broadcasting from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our workload has been steady this week, and we continue to make slow but sure progress on the various projects we are working on. This is not unlike the cycles that a farmer goes through during the various seasons of the year. The analogy comparing waiting for the Lord's return to the farmer in James 5:7 explains life pretty well, “Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord's return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.” To be successful in life, it is imperative that we fully understand the laws of planting and harvesting. Realize also that during your lifetime, there will be many different cycles of seasons. Just because particular cycles of seasons did not produce the harvest you expected, don't let that control future seasons or the entirety of your life. Today on our trek, let us continue the winter season which must be a time for reflection and planning while each new spring season gives you an opportunity to start new again. Today's trek is titled… Make Your Winter Seasons Count As we continue to contemplate the winter seasons of life, you need to grasp that throughout all the seasons of the year. Winter can touch your lives in many small ways, as if it were testing you and providing you with subtle reminders of the plight of those whose lives are surrounded by winter. Winter can be a lost opportunity or the loss of love. A winter is when a trusted friend gives you cause for disappointment when your children young or old make unwise decisions that will force them into a winter season, or even when expected business goes to a competitor. A frigid blast from the cold, harsh words of someone you love is winter, and so is the pessimism or cynicism from someone whose advice and counsel you seek. The major challenge confronting those who seem to be in a perpetual winter is that they don't prepare for the arrival of spring, and lack the ability to recognize that arrival. So that you don't become like this yourself, you must be planning, learning, and preparing so that you become part of the solution rather than allowing yourself to remain part of the problem. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/8873731444_997a921434_z.jpg () If you are currently without love, money, or employment, it is a winter, and its very appearance is because you've missed a springtime somewhere. Even if it was not your intention, neglect is always costly, and winter is merely a circumstance—an effect brought on by some earlier cause. Dwelling on the severity of your personal winter merely makes the winter more difficult to endure. You must search the inner confines of your mind and your soul for the purpose of discovering the real cause within you. Adversity is seldom attributable to someone or something outside of ourselves. To blame outside influences for the circumstance of winter is a convenient excuse for misplacing your responsibility. It is the normal human tendency to place...
