Thomas Tuchel ist kein Diplomat. Und er versucht es auch gar nicht zu sein. Er ist ein Trainer, der fordert, der Klartext spricht, der unbequeme Wahrheiten formuliert – ganz gleich, ob es seinem Image hilft oder nicht. Genau das könnte England guttun. Oder das ganze Projekt gefährden.Sein Einstand als Nationaltrainer der Three Lions? Zwei Siege, keine Gegentore, taktische erste Impulse. Doch statt Euphorie schlagen dem Deutschen Kritik und Skepsis entgegen – nicht aus England, sondern auch aus der Heimat. Lothar Matthäus urteilte scharf über Tuchels offene Kritik an Gareth Southgate: "Das gehört sich nicht. Da kriegt ein Trainer normalerweise die Rote Karte.“ Auch Philipp Lahm stellte in einem Beitrag für The Athletic nicht die Taktik in Frage, sondern Tuchels zwischenmenschliche Fähigkeiten. Schon bei seiner Zeit in München sei das ein Knackpunkt gewesen.Doch England-Kenner Hendrik Buchheister (Chefreporter RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland) erklärt im Fever Pit'ch Podcast: "Das ist Thomas Tuchel. Der ist kein Diplomat. Das war er noch nie – und das weiß man auch in England." Aber von Tuchels erstem großen Interview vor seinem Einstand war auch der Experte überrascht. Tuchel hatte bei ITV seinen Vorgänger Gareth Southgate hat kritisiert: zu viel Vorsicht, zu wenig Struktur, keine echte Spielidee. "Ich hab die Aussagen gesehen und erst mal geschluckt.“, so Buchheister. Mein erster Gedanke war: Jetzt fängt er aber schon sehr früh damit an, Porzellan zu zerschlagen."Tuchels Kritik kam bei Teilen der englischen Medien gut an – bei anderen weniger. In der Mannschaft scheint seine kompromisslose Art hingegen sogar zu wirken. "Die Spieler sind begeistert. Auch weil er mit vielen von ihnen vorab gesprochen hat – sogar mit denen, die er nicht nominiert hat.“ Tuchel hat gelernt: Wer führen will, muss erklären – und er tut es. Offen, direkt, manchmal schroff – aber selten unklar. Selbst bei kleinen Gesten denkt er mit. Die Nationalhymne etwa singt er bewusst nicht mit – aus Respekt, erklärt Buchheister. "Er sagt: Ich singe erst mit, wenn ich's mir verdient habe. Und das kommt in England richtig gut an.“Trotzdem: Der Grat ist schmal. Der Vertrag läuft bis zur WM 2026. Und das Ziel ist so klar wie gnadenlos: "Tuchel muss Weltmeister werden. Das ist der Job. Punkt", sagt Buchheister im Fever Pit'ch Podcast. Tuchel hat das Potenzial, England aus der Selbstzufriedenheit zu reißen. Seine schonungslose Art könnte genau die Reibung erzeugen, die es braucht, um aus einem guten Team eine Turniermannschaft zu machen.
