The big names have come out to play. That's also the combined number of points that James left on his bench in Kevin Schade and Morgan Gibbs-White. He doesn't own Fernandes, and Tottenham lost again. Good weekend then James? Manchester United were bad, Tottenham were worse, but Aston Villa said hold my beer last. And many popular FPL assets disappointed too with Erling Haaland and Bruno Fernandes among the players to blank. But there were some success stories, which included for Suj as he hit a big Gameweek 1 score which featured hauls for Maxim De Cuyper and Mamadou Sanagare. But for James it was a bad outcome to the week. All the games covered including tactical concerns raised about the Manchester clubs and Liverpool, great opening day win for Hull and Ipswich and how we can learn lessons from Gameweek 1 this season and last season. Arsenal, Brentford, Brighton, Everton and Leeds and won to nil with largely settled teams under the same manager and they all have assets that appeal. But who does best in Gameweek 1, doesn't neccesarily do best in Gameweek 2. This time last year Tijani Reijnders was a hot topic. For those who have had a difficult opening FPL weekend it may be time for calm reflection. Most thought they wouldn't survive, but Sunderland caught everyone by surprise, perhaps even themselves, by qualifying for the Europa League. Now the excitement of European football awaits, but with it comes challenges. Do have Sunderland have the squad that cope with two games a week regularly? That may take time to answer. The final Gameweek review of the season which ended with plenty of drama for FPL managers with Arsenal and Manchester City both going into full rotation mode. Some survived, others thrived. But for Suj and James there was only one survivor, as Tottenham beat Everton to make West Ham's win against Leeds immaterial and they now drop into The Championship. Early discussion on the Podcast focuses on the relegation battle. Bournemouth and Sunderland booked their place in the Europa League whilst Brighton have to make do with Conference League football. The Seagulls were beaten by Manchester United, and footballer of the year Bruno Fernandes claimed the assist record with his 21st of the season... but it wasn't without controversy. We're 70% through the penultimate Gameweek of the season and the weekend concluded with West Ham failing to take the opportunity to move out of the relegation as they were beaten by a Will Osula inspired Newcastle. Osula is one of a number of players who may now appeal for those who want to take punts on attacking players for final day. Is Mo Salah also one of them? Back off the bench on Friday night, but Liverpool were humbled badly at Aston Villa on Friday night as Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins returned well. But so too did two Liverpool players in Virgil Van Dijk and Domink Szoboszlai. The race for European football is tight and Sunderland are back in the mix following victory at Everton, whilst Brighton missed the opportunity to go 6th as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury time winner for Leeds impacted plenty with Brighton defenders in FPL. James went and hid, Suj could barely watch. The debate will rage on and on about that West Ham disallowed goal yesterday, and it's debated here following a review of the opening 9 games in Double Gameweek 36. Cherki v Semenyo got an answer on Saturday; it was Doku! Haaland Triple Captainers have been rewarded and those with a Bench Boost may also have come out of the weekend well. Bournemouth truly have Champions League in their sights, Palace, Leeds and Forest are now officially safe too, leaving Suj and James' "donkey race" to survive. One and two week FPL punts discussed, but it's not easy finding attractive differentials and a City slip on Wednesday, with Arsenal nearly Champions, could make their assets unappealing for Gameweek 37 with their FA Cup Final against Chelsea on Saturday three days before their trip to Bournemouth who are now 16 unbeaten. A dramatic weekend in the Premier League reviewed with Suj and James as the race for the title and the battle to stay up took major twists and there are potentially big implications for Fantasy managers as a result. Arsenal won comfortably but Manchester City escaped from Everton with a draw giving Arsenal a big advantage in the race for the title. Win at West Ham and it looks to be theirs, but The Hammers will be desperate having fallen a point behind Tottenham in the race for 17th,. That race to stay up is now almost certainly a two-way battle as Tottenham deserved won against a woeful Aston Villa, whilst Leeds won and so to did Nottingham Forest despite fielding an under strength team against a Chelsea who did at least finally score but were again very bad. And Bournemouth now lead the way ahead of Brentford for 6th which could yet result in qualification for The Champions League. Eyes now are on Arsenal assets and also Manchester City and Crystal Palace ahead of the Double Gameweek. But James also has two other teams on mind for investment despite neither team winning this weekend and there is deliberation as to whether Palace should be invested in at all. And there is a big warning about the rotation headaches that may hit Fantasy managers hard, and not just this coming Gameweek. Gestionar bien una publicación que empieza a crecer ya es otra movida.Te recomiendo que escuches la versión extendida en formato pódcast de este contenido.Llevo unos días dándole vueltas a una idea: Si tuviera que diseñar la herramienta ideal para trabajar en Substack, ¿cómo sería?Y no me refiero a una herramienta para escribir mejores titulares, generar ideas con IA o sacar cuatro métricas bonitas en una gráfica. Me refiero a una herramienta para tomarte Substack en serio. Para entender qué está pasando con tu publicación, hacer crecer la audiencia, cuidar mejor la relación con la gente que ya está dentro…Porque publicar en Substack es relativamente fácil. Escribes, envías, compartes algo en Notes y ya está.Lo difícil empieza cuando quieres construir algo alrededor.Cuando ya no quieres simplemente mandar una newsletter de vez en cuando, sino crear una publicación con dirección, y comunidad.Ahí es donde Substack por defecto se queda corto.No porque esté mal hecho. De hecho, creo que parte de su gracia es precisamente que no intenta ser un monstruo lleno de paneles y opciones complicadas de entender. Pero hay una diferencia bien grande entre publicar en Substack y gestionar bien una publicación en Substack. Y cuanto más creces, más evidente se vuelve esa diferencia.Empiezan a aparecer preguntas que no siempre son fáciles de responder desde la propia plataforma:* ¿Qué contenidos están trayendo gente nueva?* ¿Qué temas generan más respuesta?* ¿Qué posts construyen comunidad y cuáles solo ruido?* ¿Qué calidad tienen estos nuevos suscriptores?* ¿Dónde puede haber oportunidades de colaboración?Y si no tienes una forma clara de ver todo eso, acabas gestionando tu publicación como buenamente puedes: memoria, intuición, y esa sensación de estar haciendo cosas pero no saber si van a alguna parte.Dejando volar la imaginaciónSi yo tuviera que diseñar una herramienta ideal para gestionar mi proyecto en Substack, lo primero que pediría sería una vista general de salud.No una pantalla con cien métricas para fingir que soy el ingeniero jefe de la NASA. Algo más simple me vale. Una pantalla que me diga rápido si el proyecto va bien, si hay algo que se ha roto, si un contenido ha funcionado mejor de lo normal o si por el contrario, llevo semanas perdiendo suscriptores.Muchas veces el problema no es no tener datos. Es que los datos están dispersos, mal presentados o no te ayudan a decidir nada. Y una herramienta útil no debería hacerte sentir más listo por mirar gráficos o datos brillantes. Debería ayudarte a tomar mejores decisiones.Información de para tomar acciónLa segunda parte serían estadísticas de verdad. No estadísticas decorativas, no ese tipo de panel que queda muy bien en una captura pero no cambia nada de lo que haces.Lo que me interesaría es poder entender cosas como qué temas están funcionando, qué formatos tienen más recorrido, qué publicaciones traen nuevos suscriptores, cuáles generan conversación y cuáles se leen pero no mueven nada más.Porque esta es una trampa bastante habitual: confundir crecimiento con ruido. Puedes tener más visitas, más likes o más movimiento y, aun así, no estar construyendo una comunidad.A mí me interesa mucho más saber si lo que publico está creando relación y vínculo. Si la gente vuelve. Si responde. Si comparte. Si reconoce una línea editorial. Eso es mucho más importante que mirar una métrica suelta y fliparse o deprimirse durante diez minutos.Cuidar la relación directa con la genteOtra parte bastante infravalorada en Substack es la relación directa con la gente. Mensajes, respuestas, nuevas suscripciones, comentarios, conversaciones que empiezan en una Note, lectores que aparecen varias veces, gente que te escribe con una idea o una duda.Ahí hay muchísimo valor. Y muchas veces lo tratamos como una parte secundaria, casi administrativa. Pero en una publicación pequeña o mediana, la relación directa no es un detalle. Es parte del producto.A veces crecer no va de publicar más. Va de responder mejor. De detectar quién está participando. De no dejar enfriar una conversación interesante. De dar bienvenida a alguien que acaba de suscribirse.Por eso, mi herramienta ideal tendría una capa clara para gestionar todo esto: mensajes pendientes, nuevas suscripciones, conversaciones relevantes, respuestas que conviene revisar y automatizaciones sencillas para no dejar morir contactos importantes. No sería convertir una comunidad en un CRM frío y administrativo. Justo lo contrario: para darle prioridad a lo que en realidad puede ser lo más valioso de todo.Notes como superficie de crecimiento, no como urgenciaLuego estaría Notes, que tiene bastante más potencial del que parece. No solo como sitio donde dejar pensamientos sueltos, sino como superficie de descubrimiento dentro del ecosistema de Substack.El problema es que, si lo usas solo cuando te acuerdas, es muy difícil que tenga continuidad (esto es un autorecordatorio). Publicas una nota un día, desapareces cuatro, vuelves con otra idea, respondes algo por ahí, te olvidas. Y además está la parte que también me interesa: detectar cuentas afines, conversaciones con potencial, perfiles con los que tiene sentido interactuar, publicaciones alineadas con lo que tú haces. Substack no es solo una herramienta de publicación, cada vez es más una red de autores y lectores que se mezclan.A mí me gustaría tener una forma ordenada de trabajar todo esto. Preparar ideas cortas, programar publicaciones, revisar qué Notes funcionan, detectar conversaciones interesantes y no depender solo de la inspiración del momento. Porque la constancia en este tipo de canales no sale de tener ganas. Sale de tener un sistema que te lo ponga fácil cuando no tienes ganas. Que, por cierto, suele ser casi siempre.La idea de fondoTodo esto se resume en tres cosas. La herramienta ideal para Substack debería ayudarte a entender qué está pasando, cuidar mejor la relación con tu comunidad y trabajar con más consistencia.Se trata de tener una capa de trabajo encima de Substack. Una especie de sistema operativo para creadores que no quieren limitarse a publicar y cruzar los dedos.Porque esa es la sensación que tengo muchas veces con las herramientas de contenido: te ayudan a publicar, pero no a pensar, gestionar y crecer mejor. Y si Substack quiere ser algo más que un sitio donde mandar newsletters, los creadores vamos a necesitar mejores herramientas.Sujétame el cubataY claro, después de darle vueltas a todo esto, hice lo que suelo hacer cuando una idea empieza a obsesionarme un poco: me puse a construirla.La he llamado SubMate.De momento no es una gran plataforma ni un producto cerrado. Es una herramienta en construcción para gestionar mejor una publicación en Substack, con la idea de tener en un solo sitio lo que de verdad importa cuando quieres hacer crecer una comunidad sin ir a ciegas.Ahora mismo ya tiene varias piezas funcionando: una vista general de la publicación, una parte de analytics, una sección para mensajes, una capa para trabajar Notes y la configuración para conectarlo todo.Y hay varias cosas en las que quiero seguir trabajando pero me lo guardo para más adelante.No quiero una herramienta que convierta Substack en una fábrica de contenido. Quiero justo lo contrario: una herramienta que te ayude a cuidar mejor lo que estás construyendo, con más cabeza, más contexto y menos sensación de dar pequeños bandazos.Si quieres ver cómo es por dentroVoy a ir compartiendo todo el proceso de SubMate dentro de Factoría Creativa, porque creo que esta es justo la clase de herramienta que tiene sentido construir cerca de otros creadores.Gente que publica. Gente que intenta crecer. Gente que se pelea con las mismas limitaciones. Gente que puede decir “esto me serviría”, “esto no lo usaría nunca”, “esto parece útil pero falta esta parte” o “esto es una frikada tuya, Guillermo, vete a dar un paseo”. Que también puede pasar.Es una comunidad de pago único, no suscripción. Siguen quedando plazas al precio más bajo como miembro fundador, pero ya van cayendo. Si te encajan tanto lo que estoy construyendo con SubMate como el resto de lo que hay dentro, aquí tienes la puerta.Todavía no sé hasta dónde voy a llevar SubMate. On the review of the Double Gameweek weekend it's been a good weekend for many engaged managers on bench boost and that includes Suj despite buying a player who didn't even show up at the weekend, whilst for those likes James who have gone against it's been a case of trying to survive. All the games reviewed including Manchester City's victory against Arsenal which leaves us with an exciting title run-in, Liverpool stole the Merseyside Derby late on, whilst there was also late heartbreak for Tottenham against Brighton and Chelsea's woes continued as they were beaten by Manchester United. Focus now turns away from those who doubled to those who didn't ahead of the Gameweek 34 Blank and there were a number of haulers with a single who may now be popular such as Ollie Watkins and Morgan Gibbs-White and the FPL teams who look strongest this coming week are likely to have a lot of red in them. It was an unforgettable week for many FPL managers, and that included James, whose bench boost went bust with three no shows, but a score of 99 still meant a big jump inside the top 10k. For Suj it was a bit more forgettable. Infact, the only good news was a defeat for Nottingham Forest at Brighton, as Suj's West Ham and James' Tottenham once again fell to defeats. Suj and James fared very differently again in FPL in GW27 as clean sheets were bust, well owned players flopped but one hauler for James in Nico O'Reilly made the difference; but there is no doubt as James even concedes, that there was big slice of luck that he even still owned him. That was the highlight of a weekend for James, which ended with another North London Derby humbling as Tottenham continue to look nervously over their shoulder at West Ham and Nottingham Forest, who both failed to score but were unlucky to do so. There's a much promised look at Rayan and comparison to other midfielders in a similiar price bracket. Bournemouth along with Brentford, Fulham and Liverpool assets are likely to be popular this week, should Arsenal players be binned despite Sunday's comfortable win, Chelsea's brilliant fixture run is over and they slipped up against Burnley, should their assets including the in-form Joao Pedro be moved on too? Suj and James review all the football and key FPL talking points from the Gameweek 25 weekend which concluded with dramatic scenes at Anfield as Manchester City kept their title challenge alive. That win featured a late Erling Haaland haul, surpassing Bruno Fernandes own double digit haul against Tottenham, but neither were anywhere near Cole Palmer's 20 pointer as he recorded a first half hat-trick at Wolves. On the review of the weekend football Suj and James reflect on yet another Gameweek where FPL points were hard to find and it all began before deadline with leaks that Erling Haaland and Phil Foden would not start for Manchester City. Trouble was, that for those who has the info, a change in captaincy didn't necessarily bring reward. So, with Mo Salah back, is dropping Haaland a genuine consideration? Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Chelsea all won and will have interest in their assets, and so too will Manchester United assets following their win at league leaders Arsenal. There was more frustration for James as Tottenham failed to win (and nearly lost at Burnley), but Suj's West Ham did make it back to back wins, trouble was Nottingham Forest one too.
