"A poesia é onde tudo acontece”, escreveu Alejandra Pizarnik.

Barrie Henriques chats to CRKC at KK Year Book Launch 07.12.2024

In this episode of The Vint Podcast, hosts Brady Weller and Billy Galanko welcome Humberto Jardim, Managing Director and Head Winemaker of Henriques & Henriques, one of the oldest and most respected Madeira wine producers. Humberto shares his in-depth knowledge of Madeira wine production, sales, its history, and the unique challenges of growing grapes on the steep terrain of the island. He explains how Madeira's sub-tropical climate, combined with traditional winemaking techniques, creates some of the most complex and long-lived wines in the world.Throughout the conversation, Humberto provides a detailed look into the intricate aging process that defines Madeira wines. Unlike most wines, Madeira undergoes a unique aging journey that includes exposure to heat and oxygen, which helps develop the rich flavors and remarkable resilience that Madeira is known for. Humberto also discusses the different styles of Madeira—from the bright Sercial to the rich Malmsey—explaining how each grape variety contributes to the wine's diverse flavor profiles. The episode also explores Henriques & Henriques' leadership in reviving the rare Terrantez grape on Madeira, which has gained renewed attention due to its complex and nuanced wines.

Transcript: Hello, this is Pastor Don of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome to The Kingdom Perspective! Several years ago, Dr. Gregg Henriques of James Madison University wrote an article in Psychology Today that caught my attention. It was called “The Justification Hypothesis”. Dr. Henriques is known for his Unified Theory of Knowledge, which is an attempt to have a more interconnected vision of how science, psychology and philosophy are related. His theory consists of eight key ideas, the second of which he entitles Justification Systems Theory. Now, far be it from me to detail the intricacies of his theory. Nonetheless, a statement from the Psychology Today article is worth consideration. He writes:“Look around and you will see systems and processes of justification everywhere in human affairs…. Other animals communicate, struggle for dominance, and form alliances. But they don't justify why they do what they do. We are the justifying animal.”~“The Justification Hypothesis” by Gregg Henriques Ph.D. in Psychology Today; James Madison University To me, this forces the question: Why are human beings unique among all creatures in our propensity to give justification—to give reasons for why we do what we do to provide defense for our motives and actions? I think the Bible gives us the answer. It tells us that human beings are uniquely made in the image of God and given a unique moral duty before Him. Having this innate sense of moral duty to God's Law, we intuitively know we are accountable to Him—that we will have to give an account of every thought, word, and deed. We will be required to justify our lives before the courtroom of heaven. And that's something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'”~Genesis 2:15-17 (ESV) “Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.”~Psalm 62:11-12 (ESV)
Gregg Henriques is a professor at James Madison University, author of "A New Unified Theory of Psychology," and a leader in the Unified Psychotherapy Movement, with over 20 years of experience in psychology and psychotherapy, specializing in adult psychopathology. Pascal Layman is a philosopher based in Northern Ontario, known for his groundbreaking work on the metaphysics of adjacency, the coaxial stages model, and metaprogressive politics. Bruce Alderman is an accomplished musician, visual artist, and deep meditation practitioner. He is the producer of The Integral Stage podcast and the organizer of the Blue Sky Leadership Program at the California Institute for Integral Studies. Does the universe hold inherent mystery, or is our scientific understanding merely inadequate? In this episode of The Cognitive Science Show, John Vervaeke and Gregg Henriques are joined by Layman Pascal and Bruce Alderman to reflect on the Transcendent Naturalism series and explore its potential for fostering collective transcendence. The discussion covers a range of topics, including the importance of ethical and relational dimensions in our understanding of the world, the role of art and meaning-making in a meta-modern context, and the layered ontology of nature. Join us to explore this fascinating approach to understanding how transcendent naturalism can shed light on our world and guide us toward a deeper sense of purpose. It's in strong accord with transcendent naturalism in this regard." - Bruce Alderman [08:37] "John's proposed simple move to arrive at an extended naturalism, getting science to more explicitly accept what it already presupposes, is genius. There's much more that could be said about that, but my simple response is bravo." - Bruce Alderman [08:49] — 0:00 - Introduction: Series Finale and Overview of Transcendent Naturalism Series 4:00 - Integral Post-Metaphysical Spirituality and its Flexible Nature 14:10 - Influential Theories and Thinkers: Integrating Cognitive Science, Philosophy, and Transcendence 24:20 - Flexible Metaphysics and the Layered Ontology of Transcendent Naturalism 32:50 - Theology, Art, and Literature: Navigating the AGI and Meaning Crisis 39:20 - Participatory Spiritual Practices and Metaphysical Rituals 45:20 - Strong Transcendence with Preeminent Imminence 53:40 - The Role of Art and Narrative in Transcendent Naturalism 57:00 - Cultivating a Transformative Curriculum: Reimagining Institutional Roles in Spiritual Growth 1:10:20 - Conclusion: Culminating Thoughts and Future Pathways — Help advance the pursuit of scientifically rigorous wisdom and make a meaningful impact by joining the Vervaeke Foundation.
