He was the first to chime in during the previous Facebook Live, and was gracious enough to come on and lead a great discussion! He stuck around and helped the gang dig into the Topic of the Week: Afghanistan and the recent happenings with US troop withdrawl. The one thing all the Reachers agreed on, there will be more to come, and this is far from over! The word of the week, Abscond was of particular interest as it seemed uncommonly appropriate given the topics of discussion this week. Ralls was taking a few moments off to celebrate the day of his hatching, but was able to find cell signal and join just in time to reveal his choice for the Entertainment Spotlight...The all American classic, Top Gun! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092099/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 The Reachers definitely feel the need....the need for speed, and are looking forward to this one! Thank you to the great team at B&K Auto for once again bringing you the Far Reaches! For the second week in a row, the gang is short a Reacher, which is bound to happen with all the random stuff the gang get into. However, Rawley, Joel and Micah press ahead as Richard deals with the perils of sorting cows on the desert! The gang kick off the episode with the 3 way Reach Around and enjoy some laughs hearing about Joel's comedy club adventure and Ralls turning cows out to pasture. Joel brings up some great thoughts around technology and ranching and how to bring the two closer together while not destroying either. Micah does his best to fill in for Richard and break down the Entertainment Spotlight around Red Meat Republic by Joshua Spect, although it is long, definitely worth the effort! The gang circles back to talk about what car Joel should get again and Ralls brightens the day with his choice of the next Entertainment Spotlight...Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery. During the Pendleton Mixer and Cigar Intellectual Moment of the Week, the crew tackles a question by a listen in North Carolina about beverages at lunch during business. When they finally get around to Grindin the Gears some great debate kicks off around defunding the police and the lack of faith in the news. They finish off by exploring the virtues of Ranch Hand Bumpers during Buying Stuff and try and end on a high note with some of the best things of the week. Strap yourself in, turn off the ringer, pull your hat down and get ready for one of the most entertaining episodes of FRX to date. Pickup Man and Cowboy Cook, Joe Blankenship sits down with Micah to share some stories of growing up in the pickup man world, moving to Pendleton, Valentines Day and showing that Cowboys can cook! Joe got a late start in rodeo, not attending one until he was two weeks old and he quickly made an impact...with his head, on a car, when he was four, earning him the nickname of Knothead Copenhagen. Joe's first time as Pickup "Man" was at a ranch rodeo in Malta, MT when he was in the 4th grade, and that started it all. He has plied his craft all around the west, at some of the most prestigious events, and continues to do so today. Along his journey, he has met some true characters, and had some amazing horses and some of those stories come out in this episode; including a dandy poem about a rodeo legend! Joe has also started a Facebook Group with his son Boone called Cowboys Can Cook and shares how that come to be and teases us with Old Dad's biscuit recipe. If you don't know Joe, this is a great way to meet him. If you do, there is a good chance, you will hear a story you hadn't heard before! This weeks amazing episode, brought to you by B&K Auto Salvage finds the gang down a couple reachers, but fear not, they have a stellar guest host who brings the heat and keeps the gang in line. Amy McNamee joins the herd and brings up some great stories of times of yore and keeps things rolling for the gang. The Entertainment Spotlight touches on a 2019 Virology Today interview on Youtube about Coronoa research in China and is something everyone should check out! The Pendleton Mixer and Cigar Intellectual Moment of the Week asks the question, "What should we do when the media is caught lying?" Which the gang are more than willing to share an opinion on. Richard is starting a website and another podcast called Ranch and Range, which will be source of experience and excellence for those in ag and those getting into ag. So the crew gets that chance to learn a little more about what he hopes to do and some of the people that will be involved. The word of the week from Micah is Hoosegow, which causes the Reachers to think about some of the times they had a close call or two with finding themselves in the Hoosegow! Richard leads the discussion on what is Grinding His Gears and Amy notices the same thing in her part of the country. Richard also has the next Entertainment Spotlight and picked a great book for all to dig into, titled Red Meat Republic, by Joshua Specht. The gang dig through some excellent Reacher Mail and have a world class discussion on flat beds during the Buying Stuff segment. They wind up the episode with some of the Best Things of the Week, which includes an upcoming Bull Tour with the North Central Livestock Association! Special thanks to the gang at B&K Auto Salvage for their awesome sponsorship and support! The gang is fired up and they jump right into it, swinging hard on vaccine passports and reactions. Naturally a bit about their opinion on the Rona and take a moment to think of a local Lake County legend that is battling currently battling it. They also jump into quick discussion of turtles all the way down and taxes before finally gathering themselves up to get back on track and talk about the Entertainment Spotlight of Red Headed Stranger. Which leads to a good discussion on country artists and concerts and songwriting. The Intellectual Moment of the Week leads to discussion on having ID to vote and how to legally offer water to people in line to vote which leads to some excellent Reacher Mail and the word of the week, Empurple... The gang gives Joel some more advice in the new segment, Buying Stuff as he is still searching for the best hay hauling zombie vehicle. They start to wind down with an updated Grinding of the Gears and finish with the Best Things of the Week. This is Far Reaches at it's best, so enjoy! For the second episode in a row, the gang is all here, and they are all able to stick around the entire episode. Richard pops in and out, but spends most of his time in the dark...kinda like always! Ralls is busy calving, Joel sent it on a snowmobile trip, Richard has been hauling hay, and Micah hung out with some friends! The gang is in fine form this episode and dive into a slurry of topics beginning with the Entertainment Spotlight which is the 80's classic, Iron Eagle. Everyone agrees that it was cooler when they were younger, but holds up ok. Joel makes a great point, that those 80's and 90's movies had young heroes, but hard to find that now. That leads into some conversation about the current status of the military and why they are in DC and interacting with civilians both in person and on social media. The Intellectual Moment of the Week focuses on history and learning from it, and how common sense, really isn't so common anymore! Ralls expands the vocabulary with the Word of the Week, Taut, and everyone tries to use it in a sentence. The full squad of Reachers is back, even if Richard is not feeling photogenic. He joins the gang without his video, and to be honest, everyone kind of enjoyed it! They actually missed his smiling face and random backgrounds! The gang have all been busy, with spring approaching and work and life piling on top of each other. Great discussion on Richard's Entertainment Spotlight of the Max Brooks book, Devolution. Highly encourage everyone to give it a listen or a read. Richard takes a listeners suggestion for work of the week, which is Recluse and that causes some actual intellectual discussion amongst the gang. Rawley has the next spotlight, and decides we need a little feel good movie, so he drags out the 1986 classic, Iron Eagle. So strap on your Walkman and get read to tear across the skies! The Reachers debut a new segment this episode, also sponsored by our friends at B&K Auto, called What Grinds My Gears. Joel and Micah lead the charge and do a decent job of killing any political careers either of them may ever have! The gang is also proud to announce they are now on iHeartRadio as well, so no excuse not to watch or listen to the Far Reaches. Listen, enjoy, share, love and live. Besides having one of the coolest names around Bow is also a long time friend of the show and the mad man at B&K Auto Salvage that lead the charge in being the title sponsor of the Far Reaches Podcast. Bow stops by to give a little history on himself and the amazing team at B&K and tell some great stories about his early days in the recycling world! We unpack what the Scrap Confidential is all about and how he manages to resist taking home all the cool stuff that comes through the door. Bow always has something going on, so we appreciate him stopping by and can't wait to get him on an upcoming episode of Far Reaches so all the Reachers can get in on the fun. The guys are down a Reacher this week but press ahead and seem to all try and do their best to make up for the missing conversation of Ralls. Joel and Micah kick off this episode and are soon joined by Richard, as he senses a disturbance in the force and decides he better try and keep them on track! Both Joel and Micah ended up at the Dr. this week, Micah thinks his doctor is much cooler and way more legit than Joels. Joel is continuing to explore the stock market and has started getting some positions in call options, which everyone just shakes their head in like they understand what that is. Richard had a great road trip and gives some great insight into the Carbon Market and Agrivoltaics. The gang dive into a discussion on the current political climate, divide and concur, covid payments, the American "system", universities and the confederate flag. Truly fast paced and interesting discussion, and impressive for this group. Micah leads a brief review on the David Goggins book, Can't Hurt Me which is a phenomenal source of motivation. If you have read the book, you often find yourself saying, "Would Dave have given up?" when they hit a problem and keep on pushing through! Micah had word of the week as well, and took a suggested word from a loyal listener (Thank you Spoon) and discussed Honyonker with the gang. There is some excellent reader mail and feedback from our Bob O'Rourke stories and admiration of Bob. Richard has the next entertainment spotlight and choses the book Devolution by Max Brooks, so be prepared for some interesting discussion around that one for sure! Joel does a stellar Norm McDonald impression and the guys talk about some favorite comedians and being willing to ask for honest feedback even though you probably won't like it. The gang wrap up with the best part of their week, and Micah is stoked to sign up for Starlink internet and hopes Richard will do the same to cure his internet woes. The guys missed Ralls, and but pressed on like a Reacher should. Another amazing episode and one you will mark as your favorite. Don't forget to get your Far Reaches logo submissions in as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/micah87/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/micah87/support
In this amazing episode, brought to you by the amazing folks at B&K Auto Salvage, the gang unfurl what is destined to be a classic and favorite episode. The boys wade through a series of topics ranging from free speech to concealed carry, new hatchets, dinner parties, hard earned educations, intellect vs wisdom, and Friday afternoons at the Elks Club. Joel walks us through the movie Margin Call, and Richard sheds some light on the word of the week by dissecting "Hyperbole" and it's many uses and pronunciations. Rawley talks Joel into subscribing to Range Magazine and Micah has the next Entertainment Spotlight, which will be the book "Can't Hurt Me, by Navy Seal David Goggins. Do yourself a favor and skip a couple fancy coffees and get the audio version of the book as the author does a series of mini podcasts within the book and provides some additional background on his amazing and truly inspiring life. Share this episode and mark it as a favorite, because the gang is firing on all cylinders in this spectacular episode. In this Groundhog Day edition of the Far Reaches Podcast, join the gang for some spirited and insightful discussion into some of the hottest topics from the past week. Thank you to our good friends at B&K Auto Salvage for making it possible for the Reachers to connect with you! Mrs. Nurse Bigsby is coming home to the homestead from California and travel nurse super status, while Ralls has been busy snazzing up the bunkhouse and calving heifers. Richard closed on some houses and spent some time in California with the outlaws retrieving R3 and enjoying some family time. Micah is "trying" to simplify and picked up a vintage Gen3 Toyota 4Runner for his daily driving needs. All the while, Joel has been battling a snowy nor'easter and studying the Reddit Revolution from every angle! The conversation is laden with financial opinions and Richard suggests we check out a VC group called Sweater which is brining venture capital to the retail investor. Richard leads the discussion on his entertainment segment with Hardcore History of Wrath of the Kahns. Joel is ready with the word of the week, so Richard trades word weeks and will dazzle us next week with his vocabulary stylings. Joel dazzles with the word Capitulation which is very topical for the past week. Joel will be leading the entertainment segment during the next episode, and decides to explore the movie 2011 Margin Call (even though Micah calls it The Big Short at the end of the episode). Finally, the gang decides they need a Far Reaches Logo, so they are calling on all the Reachers out there to show them what you got! Think of something that would look cool on a hat or coffee mug and knock their socks off! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/micah87/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/micah87/support

Thank you again to our good friends at B&K Auto Salvage for bringing you the Far Reaches! As the gang wades further into 2021, come along for the ride as they discuss the recent inauguration, make a few predictions on the coming year and discuss the the merits of judging someone on their deeds and not what they look like or how they identify. Now that football is winding down, Joel is focusing more on the market, which leads to some great conversation on the cattle markets and how farmers and ranchers deal with ever changing risk. Micah finds a water leak in his new house, Richard is learning how to deal with the barrage of questions from his three year old and Rawley is dealing with the solitude of Wallowa County while Mrs. B is on nursing duty. The guys talk about the Mat Best book, Thank You For My Service, and have some dissenting opinions on their review of it. Which leads them to the epiphany that it is still OK to agree to disagree. There is some great discussion on potential upcoming guests and maybe even a Pow Wow Reunion special! Richard is leading the literary adventure for the next episode and points us in the direction of the Hardcore History podcast by Dan Carlin and the Wrath of Khans episodes. The gang will listen to those and tear them open for discussion on the next episode. We hope you enjoy and look forward to your comments and suggestions. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/micah87/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/micah87/support
In the season 2 debut, brought to you by the good folks at B&K Auto Salvage, the gang discusses some of the recent events at the nations capitol, freedom, the importance of history, cool cars in high school, the evolution of the Subaru Outback, cool podcasts with Marcus Luttrel, and some guy named Neener. Joel teaches the gang about "What-about-ism", Rawley talks demographics, Richard cooks some food and Micah got a haircut. The gang also find time to discuss one of the best movies ever, Pulp Fiction and Micah's word of the week...Amok. Rawley suggests they switch gears and talk about a book the next episode...and believe it or not, the gang agrees. They will be discussing "Thank You For My Service, by Matt Best as well as your Reacher Mail, Loveline Questions and stock tips and advice.
