She came across the CTFAR model while listening to Jody Moore's podcast, and it made a significant impact on her life. Within a week of implementing this practice, Nichole noticed a positive change in herself, and people around her could also see the difference. The CTFAR framework stands for Circumstances, Thoughts, Feelings, Actions, and Results. Everything is a circumstance, and good or bad things are only good or bad because of the thought and feeling that happens after the circumstance.  Nichole believes that the model can help individuals have more control and show up in the best ways possible, even in challenging situations. Additionally, Shanenn encourages people to ask for what they need in a clear and direct manner. Nichole and Shannon discuss how to approach a conversation with a supervisor who is not a good communicator. They recommend making a list of questions, including when the task is due, who needs to be involved, and if there are any specific instructions. It is also recommended to set up one-on-ones with the supervisor and discuss expectations and how to communicate better. Additionally, they suggest proactively communicating what type of learner you are and how the supervisor can accommodate that. In meetings, women get interrupted more often than men. To prevent interruptions, a woman can politely say a couple of phrases like "I have just another point to make and then I'd love to hear your feedback," or "As soon as I'm finished, I'm gonna open it up, and we'll be able to hear everyone's feedback." Women can practice these phrases to feel more comfortable in the moment. If interrupted, a woman can use visual cues like putting her finger up or reaching out physically to get the speaker's attention and say that she wasn't done speaking yet. People interrupt because they're thinking of their response and not because they're rude.

Managing Energy During a virtual meeting with the local Silicon Slopes chapter in Utah, where Nichole joined their leadership team for the marketing chapter, the group discussed adding an additional person to the team and morning routines. One committee member talked about managing his energy, and how you can't show up to things if you aren't managing your energy. Nichole realized that this was the one thing that could throw off even the best time management planning. She was hard on herself because she believed that planning her day better, time-blocking more, or doing all the different things could make her day easier or less stressful. Nichole loved that the committee member talked about energy factor and how it resonated with her. Being a female, Nichole recognized that we are cyclical beings and that the world is created for the male cycle of 24 hours. She used the analogy of the typical male as the sun and the female as the moon, and the cycles of the sun and the moon. As females, we are not able to show up with the same amount of energy to everything every day, and there are times when we have extremely low energy and times when we can take on all the things. Nichole encourages everyone to be thoughtful and aware of how they're showing up to everything with energy and not just because it's another thing on their calendar or to-do list. Companies are providing more autonomy to their team members to get work done when they want to or aren't capable of doing it, recognizing that energy can ebb and flow throughout a given day and month.
