Mimotype is a developer and vendor of bio-inspired performance materials. Our core skills: Initiating and steering end-to-end innovation cycles in the domain of bio-inspired materials research. The bioeconomy is about realigning production methods and supply chains with the vision of an ecologically seamless world economy. A deepened understanding of biology at the nanoscale will allow first-movers to become the technology leaders of the 21st century. We have a prime candidate for a materials blockbuster in our material pipeline. Our focus is on a peptide – i.e. a mini-protein – that acts as the luminescent agent for the light-emission of marine life, a phenomenon known as "bioluminescence". We extract the genetic blueprint of said target molecule and then have genetically programmed bacteria produce the substance for us. The material obtained in this way is to be used for OLED displays and adjacent applications. In this industrial sector, there is a lack of high-performance emitter materials for the blue colour spectrum. If our stratagem works out, we will become the market leader in supplying a critical component for the display industry. Moreover, in the long term, our approach can bring about a profound reshaping of the OLED technology mix. This will result in our materials IP becoming increasingly embedded in the value network of the target market. Thanks to enormous advances in gene sequencing, exponentially increasing computing power and new gene-editing tools, humans have become core developers in the source code of life. As an investment thesis, Mimotype is a bet on an unconventional German biotech that reverse-engineers high-performance materials from nature's open source code. Find out more about Mimotype Technologies by visiting Mimotype LinkedIn For questions or comments, please email us at info@inam.berlin. Also, if you or someone you know would like to be a guest on our show, we welcome any and all suggestions!

Fascinated by sound, noise, and its impact on society, co-founders Rhona Togher & Eimear O'Carroll have worked together for over 15 years. Inventive by nature, they founded Lios (formerly Restored Hearing) in 2009 to build technologies which would enable a quieter world. Togher and O'Carroll have long been frustrated with the pace of advancements in their field, witnessing incremental developments which fell short in delivering meaningful change. Originally trained as physicists, the pair have applied their knowledge of physics to a range of challenges, creating elegant and practical solutions to some of the world's greatest challenges. One of those solutions is SoundBounce. SoundBounce is a smart material solution to enable regulatory compliance and competitive advantage for our partners. With an adaptable design, simplicity of integration into new and existing products is achieved. SoundBounce delivers superior noise attenuation without the bulk of traditional acoustic materials. This is essential to product designers when consumers are demanding smaller, quieter products. SoundBounce provides a cost-effective way of absorbing harmful or unwanted noise, which saves space while protecting people and structures. Using energy absorbing technology never before seen in the acoustics sector, SoundBounce has unrivalled performance at low frequency noise reduction. During the final project conference they had the idea to start MQS to use the acquired knowledge from their PhDs, combine it and implement a full fledged software as a service solution for the pharma, biotech and chemical industries. Grown tired of using inflexible software in the chemical engineering domain which feel outdated in comparison to many tools in signal processing and artificial intelligence applications, Mark and Lukasz want to deliver modern and future computational tools to accelerate research & development efforts by the pharma, biotech and chemical industry. Their tools include the use of high-performance computing and quantum-computers with quantum chemistry models and machine learning to calculate the properties of materials and chemicals in a fast and efficient way. This week's episode features Tanya Colonna and Hobey Tam of BlackTop Labs. BlackTop Labs is set to become the new standard of care in personalized athletic training optimization. Their first product is a patent-pending diagnostic decision-making tool that bridges the current technology gap between standard data collection techniques and personalized care with advanced micro-electronics and smart system integration technology. Currently, physical therapists and athletic trainers are bound to generalized training methods. BlackTop Labs' technology is the first medical-grade tool of its kind to measure the patient's neuromuscular response to treatment while seamlessly integrating into the clinical workflow, adding a major, currently overlooked dimension to decision-making.  INAM met BlackTop Labs through this year's AdMaCamp program where they walked away with the Best Pitch prize. Their story of how they began their startup journey is truly captivating and we hope you find it as intereting as we did!  They are currently looking for the following: Angel investors and accelerator programs with a focus on Sports Technology/connected athletes Anyone who works with strength training – powerlifters, body builders, CrossFitters, or general strength and conditioning coaches that are interested in hearing more about our product and potentially beta testing our product at the end of this year Research Institutes that have a heavy focus on human movement science, exercise physiology, orthopedic rehabilitation, and neurological diseases like Parkinson's, cerebral palsy, and ataxia.   If you fall into one of these categories, email us info@inam.berlin and we will gladly put you in touch with the team personally.
