Say The Things

This is the episode I've been building toward all season. We started this year with a question most of you already knew intimately — standing in your kitchen, coffee going cold, looking at a life that checked every box and feeling like you were watching it from the outside. Is this all there is? And we went to work. We looked at where you learned to make yourself smaller. The accommodations that started as kindness and became identity. The over-functioning that felt like love but was really a negotiation. We looked at resentment — not as a character flaw but as a data point, the accumulation of every swallowed preference, every edited truth, every time you accepted lack as plenty. And when you finally let it speak, what was underneath wasn't more pain. It was smaller. Quieter. Almost ordinary. I'd rather not go to that. I need an hour that's just mine. That doesn't actually work for me. That's the arrival. Not a grand declarative moment. Just small, true things that were always yours — that you'd been keeping from yourself. In this episode I talk about why two fictional women — Lorelai Gilmore and C.J. Cregg — have stayed with me for years, and what they understood about showing up as themselves that most of us were never taught. I talk about what owning yourself actually looks like on an ordinary Tuesday. About the relationships that survived when you stopped performing, and why those are the only ones that were ever real. And about what it means to walk into a room knowing who walked in with you. This isn't about becoming someone new. It's about recovering someone real. You're not trying to become anyone else. You already know who you are. You just spent this year stopping apologizing for her. I'm taking a few weeks off this summer to live some of this, finish a couple of certifications, and give the next season the space it deserves. Thank you for every episode, every honest moment of recognition, and every bit of work you did on the other side of this microphone. You're worth taking care of. I'll see you soon.

What a Quieter Fed Could Mean for Markets

Thoughts on the Market

In his first meeting as Fed Chair, Kevin Warsh signaled restraint in providing guidance. Our Global Head of Fixed Income Research Andrew Sheets looks at possible impacts of the new approach.Read more insights from Morgan Stanley.----- Transcript -----Andrew Sheets: Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Andrew Sheets, Global Head of Fixed Income Research at Morgan Stanley. Today, why the Fed could do less than expected and why that could still lead to more volatility. It's Wednesday, June 24th at 2pm in London. Last week saw the first meeting of the Federal Reserve under its new chair, Kevin Warsh. It didn't disappoint. The Fed's Summary of Economic Projections saw significantly higher inflation than the last iteration in March, and in turn, a much stronger case to raise interest rates, perhaps multiple times. The Fed's statement, which laid out its views around the economy and its reasons for action, was changed dramatically – and also significantly shortened. We don't think the Fed will ultimately follow through on the interest rate rises that were flagged in this meeting and will choose instead to remain on hold this year. But we think this scenario of them staying on hold can still lead to more volatility. I'll try to address each side of this apparent contradiction. First, the Fed is clearly worried about inflation, which has been elevated for a considerable period of time. But working through the numbers, Morgan Stanley economists forecast lower inflation over the rest of this year than the Fed now expects. And so, while we think it would be entirely reasonable for the Fed to expect to raise interest rates based on the high inflation that they have penciled in, we think they could reach a different conclusion if our lower estimates are ultimately correct. Supporting our case, at least in our view, is that energy prices have fallen significantly in recent weeks since some of these Fed forecasts were set, as markets have moved to believe not only would existing oil production resume in the Persian Gulf, but Iran could increase exports materially under its new agreement with the United States. That would greatly reduce a source of underlying inflationary pressure in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. With inflation set to come in lower than feared, we think the Fed's most natural option will be to remain on hold this year rather than raise rates. But if the Fed's not doing anything, how exactly is that going to drive volatility? Our answer to that question lies in another thing that it's not going to be doing – providing as much information about where it thinks monetary policy is going next. Indeed, since the financial crisis, the Fed often went out of its way to give so-called forward guidance and significant detail about when and how they may change policy in the future. Proponents saw this as a way to avoid surprises and smooth the transmission of this policy, but critics saw it as limiting and potentially giving markets a false sense of certainty. The new Fed chair, Kevin Warsh, is one of these critics and has promised to give a lot less forward guidance. That lack of handholding by the Fed about what they might do next is a big change. Coupled with the potential for a smaller Fed balance sheet and big questions around the path of inflation and the impact of AI and productivity, every data point now has more potential to shift the market's thinking. My strategy colleagues think that this will lead to higher volatility in two-year interest rates, as well as more volatility in currencies. I'd also note that here in the UK, this paradox is not nearly as puzzling. Here, the Bank of England's target rate has been the same level since mid-December. But that hasn't stopped the UK two-year bond yield from trading in an over 100 basis point range. Thank you, as always, for your time. If you find Thoughts on the Market useful, let us know by leaving a review wherever you listen. And also tell a friend or colleague about us today.

In this episode of HurricaneCenter, the panel opens with the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic season already affecting the Texas coast. Bill Reed walks through the early impacts from Tropical Storm Arthur, including tropical-storm-force winds near the coast, heavy localized rainfall, elevated tides and coastal water issues from Galveston to Bolivar and southwest Louisiana. Dr. Hal Needham joins live from the Galveston Seawall, where rough Gulf conditions and strong winds are already being felt, but he stresses that the main impact from Arthur is rainfall flooding rather than a major storm surge event. The featured guest is Dr. Phil Klotzbach of Colorado State University, who breaks down the latest CSU outlook for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Unlike recent years that leaned well above normal, the updated forecast calls for a somewhat below-normal season: 11 named storms, 5 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes. With Arthur now named, that leaves 10 additional named storms in the forecast.Phil explains why the forecast has shifted lower: El Niño. He walks through how warmer water in the central and eastern tropical Pacific can change global wind patterns, increase sinking motion over the Atlantic and, most importantly, strengthen vertical wind shear across the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic. That shear can tilt and disrupt tropical systems, making it especially difficult for long-lived major hurricanes to develop. The conversation also covers why weak, short-lived storms like Arthur can still form during El Niño years. Phil explains that El Niño tends to suppress stronger storms more than weak tropical storms, especially in the deep tropics. That means the season can still produce impacts, especially from close-to-land or higher-latitude systems, even when the overall basin activity is expected to be lower.Phil also discusses CSU's forecasting process, including historical analog years, statistical models, climate model guidance, ACE, western Atlantic landfall probabilities and new AI-driven forecasting tools. He notes that the strongest El Niño impacts are typically felt later in the season, especially in September and October, when background shear increases and Caribbean development often becomes much less favorable. The episode closes with a look back at Arthur's real-time impacts along the Texas coast, a preview of Hal Needham's upcoming Extreme Explorations documentary work, and a tease for next week's guest, Mike Lowry.Support the showSuggest a topic or ask a question: alex@wxguide.comVisit our conference site: www.hurricanecenterlive.comThanks for listening and please share with your friends and co-workers.

Some concerns may have been resolved, while others remain unanswered. There may be conversations you continue to replay, decisions you are still considering, or situations that feel unfinished and uncertain. Night has a way of making worries seem louder than they really are. When the distractions of the day fall silent, our minds can sometimes become busy. We revisit what has happened, wonder about what might happen next, and quietly carry concerns into hours that were meant for rest. Yet tonight, God offers a different invitation. He does not ask you to solve tomorrow before you sleep. He does not ask you to carry every burden through the night. He simply invites you to be still and remember that He is God. Father, thank You for bringing me safely through this day. Thank You for every moment of grace, every unseen protection, and every kindness You have provided along the way. As I prepare to rest, help me release what I cannot change and trust You with what I cannot control. Jesus, settle my thoughts and quiet my heart. Where anxiety tries to linger, bring peace. Where fear tries to return, bring reassurance. Help me remember that while I sleep, You remain watchful, faithful, and present. Waiting for a quieter week to start building momentum is one of the most common ways people stay stuck.   Life does not slow down.   It just changes shape.   Real momentum in a busy life does not look like a perfect streak.   It looks like showing up with whatever the day makes available and refusing to disappear from your own goals when things get full.   A full week will always ask you to skip.   Deciding in advance what you will not give up changes everything. TL;DR / Key Takeaways Yawning, burping, and stomach gurgles after a tapping round are all signs that your body shifted out of fight-or-flight mode and into its natural rest-and-restore state. The human nervous system operates in two distinct modes: the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest). EFT tapping moves you from the first into the second. When the digestive system comes back online after a stress response, it produces physical signals including yawns, burps, farts, and stomach rumbles. You do not need to yawn for tapping to have worked. The absence of a yawn is not evidence that nothing changed. These physical responses are among the most common questions people search before finding this site, which tells us that tappers everywhere share this experience and wonder what it means. Why Do I Yawn After Tapping? The Short Answer Yawning after a round of EFT tapping means your nervous system just made a real, measurable shift. It moved out of sympathetic activation (the stress state) and into parasympathetic activation (the recovery state), and your body is announcing that transition out loud. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), commonly called tapping, involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and upper body while focusing on an emotional issue. Some of the earliest peer-reviewed research on tapping demonstrated that it reduces cortisol, the primary stress hormone produced during fight-or-flight activation. When cortisol drops and the sympathetic response de-escalates, the parasympathetic nervous system takes over. That handoff produces a cascade of physical changes, and yawning is one of the most visible. Key insight: "The yawn is your body's way of resetting its state. It is the system literally changing shape from the inside to signal that the danger has passed." What Are the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems? The human nervous system runs in two modes that cannot operate simultaneously. Your body is always choosing between them based on its read of your environment. The sympathetic nervous system governs fight or flight. When the brain perceives a threat, physical or emotional, it floods the body with adrenaline and cortisol. Heart rate climbs. Pupils dilate to take in more visual information. Oxygen is pushed to your limbs so you can run or fight. Digestion shuts down almost entirely, because processing food is a waste of resources when a threat is nearby. Some people experience the extreme version of this when they go blank before a presentation or job interview. The capillaries in the brain constrict as oxygen is rerouted to the muscles, which is why all the answers you forgot come flooding back the moment you walk out the door and the threat passes. The parasympathetic nervous system governs rest, repair, and digestion. Heart rate drops. Pupils contract to sharpen focus. The digestive system powers back on. Growth and maintenance processes resume. You can learn more about how the nervous system connects to emotional healing in Pod #482, where I talked through the full picture with Dr. Jen Cincurak, a naturopathic doctor whose work centers on nervous system maturation and somatic tools including tapping. Why Tapping Triggers the Shift from Stress to Rest Tapping moves the body from sympathetic to parasympathetic activation by sending a calming signal through the acupressure system while you hold a stressful thought or feeling in mind. The combination of cognitive focus and physical tapping interrupts the fight-or-flight loop. Key insight: "What tapping does is give the nervous system new information. It says: you can be present with this emotion without being in danger because of it." The early body of scientific research on tapping, including studies that measured cortisol in saliva before and after sessions, showed measurable decreases in the stress hormone within a single session. That biological change is not metaphorical. It is the same shift the body makes when a frightening situation resolves and you let out a long exhale. Tapping makes it available on purpose, for emotional material the nervous system has been holding in stress mode for days, months, or years. For a deeper look at the evidence behind why tapping produces these effects, Why Tapping Works: Six Evidence-Based Premises covers the research base in plain language. What Causes the Yawning, Burping, and Stomach Gurgles? When the parasympathetic nervous system takes over, every system that was put on hold during the stress response comes back online at once. That re-activation is not silent. The yawn is a physical resetting of the throat and airway, part of the body recalibrating its breathing pattern as it relaxes. It is not about being sleepy (though it can feel that way). It is the airway itself changing shape as surrounding muscles release tension. The burps, farts, and stomach gurgles are the digestive system restarting. During fight or flight, digestion goes essentially offline. The moment the parasympathetic system takes over, digestion turns back on like an engine starting up after sitting cold. It makes noise. It produces gas. That is not a malfunction. That is the machinery doing exactly what it is supposed to do. This connects to broader patterns around what happens in the body during emotional healing, a topic I explored in depth with Julie Schiffman in an early episode on physical body signals. Does Not Yawning Mean Tapping Did Not Work? No. The absence of a yawn after tapping does not mean nothing happened. Key insight: "The yawn is one sign that the shift occurred. It is not the only sign, and its absence is not evidence of failure." Yawning signals the sympathetic-to-parasympathetic transition when it is large enough to produce a physical response, but subtler or more gradual shifts may not trigger visible physical signals. Some sessions produce a quiet settling rather than a dramatic physical announcement. Some people rarely yawn at all, regardless of what their nervous system is doing. I have worked with clients who felt genuinely deflated after a session because they did not yawn the way they had in earlier rounds. They assumed that meant the session did not work. In most cases, they had already done significant work on the issue previously, and the remaining shifts were quieter. Quieter does not mean smaller. If you are wondering whether your tapping is actually producing results, Pod #703 on why you might feel worse after a round of tapping addresses exactly that concern in detail. Other Physical Signs That Tapping Is Working Yawning is the most commonly noticed signal, but it belongs to a larger family of parasympathetic indicators. After a productive tapping round, you might also notice a deep sigh or a long exhale that seems to come out of nowhere. A shift in the weight of your shoulders or a release of tension in your jaw. A brief wave of tiredness as the nervous system moves out of high alert and the body relaxes toward its resting state. Occasionally a sudden need to use the bathroom, which is the GI tract re-engaging. None of these are problems. They are the body doing its job, communicating in the language it was designed to use. If you have ever felt oddly emotional right after a round of tapping and wondered whether something went wrong, Pod #695 on why you feel sad after tapping walks through the same nervous-system logic applied to emotional release. The Five Stress Responses and What They Mean for Tapping Most people know fight or flight, but the sympathetic nervous system actually produces five distinct stress responses, sometimes called the five Fs: fight, flight, freeze, flop, and fawn. Fight and flight are the most familiar. Freeze is what happens when the threat is so overwhelming that movement seems impossible. Flop is a more extreme collapse response. Fawn is the social version, appeasing and accommodating to neutralize the threat through relationship. All five of these states share the same underlying biochemistry: cortisol, adrenaline, constricted digestion, elevated heart rate, redirected blood flow. And all five can be the state your nervous system is carrying when you sit down to tap on an emotional issue. Key insight: "Every one of those five stress responses is the body trying to keep you safe. Tapping gives the system the signal that the danger has passed and it is safe to stand down." This is why tapping can produce the same yawning and digestive reset regardless of whether the original stress was acute fear, chronic people-pleasing, or old frozen shock. The body's exit route from all five states runs through the same parasympathetic doorway, and the yawn on the other side is the same yawn. What to Do When You Notice These Physical Signals After Tapping When you notice a yawn, a burp, or a gurgle during or after tapping, you do not need to do anything special. Simply acknowledge it as confirmation that your nervous system is responding. A few practices that support this process: Pause after the physical signal. When you yawn or feel a release, give yourself 30 seconds to breathe and let the shift settle before moving on. Notice what changed emotionally. After the signal, check in with the issue you were tapping on. Does it feel different? Smaller? More distant? This is your informal SUDS (Subjective Units of Distress Scale) check, which is the standard 0 to 10 measure of emotional intensity used in EFT. Do not chase the yawn. Tapping longer or harder specifically to produce more yawning is unnecessary. If the yawn happened, the shift happened. Trust it. Keep a short log. Some tappers find it helpful to note physical signals alongside their emotional observations after a session. Over time this builds self-knowledge about how your particular nervous system signals change. If you want a structured way to use tapping consistently and build on these kinds of shifts day by day, 365TappingLessons.com offers a full year of guided sessions built around exactly this kind of body-informed practice. Frequently Asked Questions Why do I yawn so much when I do EFT tapping? Yawning during or after EFT tapping is your nervous system shifting from sympathetic activation (fight or flight) to parasympathetic activation (rest and digest). This shift causes a physical reset in the throat and airway, which produces yawning. Frequent yawning during tapping typically means your sessions are moving significant stored stress through your system. Is yawning after tapping a good sign? Yes. Yawning after tapping is a positive indicator that your nervous system made a genuine transition from a stress state into a recovery state. It is not coincidence. It is the body responding to the biochemical shift that tapping creates. What does it mean when my stomach gurgles during tapping? Stomach gurgles during tapping mean your digestive system is coming back online after being suppressed by a stress response. During fight or flight, digestion essentially shuts down to conserve energy. When tapping moves you into a parasympathetic state, digestion restarts and produces audible sounds. This is a healthy, normal response. Does not yawning mean tapping is not working? No. You can have a highly effective tapping session with no yawning at all. Yawning signals the parasympathetic shift when it is large enough to produce a visible physical response, but subtler shifts may not trigger it. Judge the effectiveness of a session by how the emotional issue feels afterward, not by whether you yawned. Can tapping make you feel tired? Yes, and for a good reason. Coming out of a sustained stress state, even a low-grade chronic one, requires the nervous system to recalibrate. When the parasympathetic system takes over after tapping, the body sometimes relaxes into a brief wave of tiredness. This is normal and typically passes within a few minutes. What are the five F stress responses and how does tapping address them? The five stress responses are fight, flight, freeze, flop, and fawn. All five are expressions of the sympathetic nervous system triggered by perceived danger. Tapping works across all five because it addresses the underlying biochemistry (cortisol, adrenaline, restricted digestion) rather than any one specific behavioral expression of stress. Is there research showing tapping reduces the stress response? Yes. Some of the earliest peer-reviewed studies on EFT measured cortisol levels before and after tapping sessions and found significant reductions within a single session. This physiological evidence supports what tappers report experientially: that tapping produces a measurable shift in the body's stress state, not just a change in perspective.

Revved engines at midnight. A bass line that rattles your windows. A mini motorcycle flying past walkers on a shared use path. These are the moments that turn everyday travel into a quality-of-life challenge. And this is exactly what Lindsay and Bruce tackle in the episode with updated rules on noise ordinances and micromobility rules. We're joined by Deputy Chief of Police Nick Tabernik and Director of Transportation & Mobility Jeannie Willis to explain what's changing and how it actually works in real life. We break down the new Dublin Ohio decibel limits for vehicle exhaust based on speed zones and the 80-decibel standard for stereo sound. Just as importantly, we talk about how officers determine excessive noise with a decibel reader and what residents should do when they need to report a problem using the non-emergency line. Then we shift to micromobility, where new devices are showing up faster than most of us can keep track. Jeannie walks us through what counts as micromobility, how e-bike Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 differ, and where each can legally ride. We also cover safe parking that keeps curb ramps clear for accessibility and the updated helmet requirement for riders under 16. Throughout the conversation, we keep coming back to the same goal: safer streets, clearer expectations, and education first with enforcement as a secondary step when behavior doesn't change. If you care about road safety, shared path etiquette and practical local rules that keep Dublin moving, listen now. Dr. David Hilmers is one of my heroes. We respect, honor, and love Dr. Hilmers. Some lives do not move in a straight line. They arc. They climb, break, turn, and then rise again in a direction no résumé can fully explain. Dr. David Hilmers has lived that kind of life. He was a Marine aviator. A NASA astronaut on four Space Shuttle missions. An engineer. A man who saw the Earth from the cold black silence of space and logged more than twenty days above it. By any ordinary telling, that would have been enough. More than enough. The kind of life that earns applause, headlines, and a comfortable place in memory. But there is another kind of greatness. Quieter. Harder. Less decorated. It doesn't ask, “How far did you go?” It asks, “Whom did you serve once you got there?”That is where the story of David Hilmers becomes truly significant. Many define true significance as using your gifts to meaningfully improve the lives of others at scale. In Hilmers' case, those are not just handsome words. They are the contour lines of a real life. He saw the whole Earth, and instead of marveling only at its beauty, he felt its pain. He looked down from orbit and began looking inward. And what he found there was not self-congratulation. It was a calling.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

They explore the balance between beauty and accessibility, and how loudness is not just a mastering issue, it is a creative dimension that shapes emotion, energy, and perceived impact. The conversation breaks down what gain staging really means in modern mixing, why many classic rules were originally about managing noise, and how today it is more about preserving freedom and control in your workflow. They talk about practical target levels engineers use when hitting plugins, why some mixes feel boxed in when the mix bus is too hot, and how dense sessions can build level fast even when individual tracks are not peaking high. They also zoom out into how loudness decisions translate across mediums. Dee Kei shares how Dolby Atmos delivery constraints can change the feel of a record that relies on aggressive loudness for momentum, and how downmixes can shift balance depending on playback. They touch on the psychological reality that slightly louder often gets perceived as better, even when nothing else changes, and why sending a limited version of your mix to a client can matter for perception and decision-making.To close, they share real-world stories about how playback environments like movie theaters or broadcast chains can unintentionally slam your audio through limiters, plus a reminder that “loud and good” is not a contradiction. This episode is for mixers who want a clearer mental model of loudness, headroom, and gain staging, and how to make those decisions intentionally without destroying the mix.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/mixing-music-music-production-audio-engineering-and-music/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Send us a textHola,This is the Christmas episode… but not the shiny, matching-PJ, chestnuts-by-the-fire version. This is the one for the woman whose December feels different this year.Quieter. Messier. More emotional. Less like the fantasy and more like real life.In this episode of The Reinvention Era, I'm talking honestly about:the Christmas you thought you'd havethe Christmas you're actually havingand why the gap between those two can feel emotional as hellBecause Christmas has a sneaky way of dragging up every expectation we've ever absorbed…Who we thought we'd be by now. What we thought life would look like. The roles we've always played… the peacemaker, the hostess, the “good girl”, the one who holds it all together. And for so many women, December becomes the ultimate identity check-in… whether we want it to or not.In this episode, we go all in on…..Why Christmas hits your identity nerves harder than any other time of yearHow nostalgia, expectation, and emotional labour collide in DecemberWhy outgrowing old traditions doesn't make you ungrateful (it makes you honest)The quiet grief and growth that can coexist at this time of yearAnd how to reinvent Christmas without making it big, dramatic, or perfectI also talk about….What it looks like to let go of Christmas expectations that no longer fitWhy I've consciously chosen a Christmas that works for this version of meAnd 8 simple micro-reinventions you can use this season… no pressure, no pretending, no performance requiredThis episode is for you if:Christmas feels emotional, complicated, lonely, or just… offYou're tired of performing joyYou've changed, but the traditions around you haven'tOr you're somewhere between who you used to be and who you're becomingBecause this Christmas might not look like the one you imagined… but it could be the most honest, aligned, and self-honouring one you've ever had.You don't owe anyone a performance. You're not behind. You're unfolding.Merry Christmas

To sense what other people walk through without ever noticing. In a family of psychics, the paranormal wasn't taboo — it was tradition. And from the moment she was born, something responded to that openness. Followed her from house to house. Grew stronger as she did. For decades, business aviation has advanced in small, predictable steps. Quieter cabins, digital cockpits, incremental gains in fuel efficiency. But real breakthroughs are generational. What Otto Aviation is building may be the most significant leap in private jet design since the invention of the high-bypass turbofan. This isn't another luxury aircraft chasing prestige. It's a reimagining of how far, how fast, and how efficiently a jet can fly. At the center of that transformation is laminar flow: an aerodynamic principle nature has perfected but aviation has struggled to harness.  Until now.  By achieving true laminar flow across both the wing and fuselage, Otto has unlocked a 50% reduction in fuel burn. That creates a cascade of benefits: lighter engines, smaller tanks, reduced maintenance, and dramatically lower operating costs.  For the first time, private aviation could expand beyond the elite few and into a broader market of business travelers. In this episode, CEO of Otto Aviation, Paul Touw, joins me to talk about how laminar flow moved from a theoretical possibility to a practical breakthrough, what it takes to bring a billion-dollar clean-sheet aircraft to market, and how this technology could reshape the economics of flight for decades to come.   You'll also learn; Why laminar flow is the biggest aerodynamic breakthrough since the 707 How Otto's design rewrites aircraft economics, cutting weight, fuel, and maintenance while extending range and performance. Why flying higher delivers radical efficiency and passenger comfort. How stealth-era manufacturing and modern computing finally made laminar flow possible. How Otto is minimizing risk by combining in-house final assembly with proven certified systems. How Flexjet's $10B order signals commercial confidence in Otto's clean-sheet aircraft. What it takes to recruit elite engineers from Boeing, Textron, and Gulfstream into a startup building the first new jet of its kind in over a decade. How lessons from XOJet shaped a customer-first approach to designing the next era of business aviation.   Guest Bio Paul Touw is an Engineer, Entrepreneur, and CEO of Otto Aviation. The Otto Aerospace Phantom 3500 is a masterpiece of engineering— utilizing groundbreaking laminar flow technology, digital design tools, and modern manufacturing techniques to achieve unparalleled efficiency, luxury, and environmental stewardship. Designed for leaders, visionaries, and innovators, the Phantom 3500 sets a new standard in private jet flight where performance and sustainability exist in perfect harmony. Today on the show, I get to chat with Marielena Ferrer and Viktorsha Uliyanova, a multidisciplinary artist and educator working with alternative photography, installation, video, and fiber art. Her work explores impermanence, the notions of home, and cultural identity narrated through the prism of memory. Her practice is informed by her upbringing in the Soviet Union, political repression, and the immigrant experience. In her research, Uliyanova explores neglected and overlooked histories, often using archives as a catalyst for her work. She received her BA in English Literature, Language, and Criticism from Hunter College and an MFA in Photography and Related Media at State University of New York at New Paltz. Her work has been exhibited at Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Baxter St., MOMA PS1, Participant Inc, Collarworks, among others. She is the recipient of New York State Council on the Arts Grant, Arts Mid-Hudson Culture Grant, Traverso Photography Award, Women's Studio Workshop SAI Grant, Sojourner Truth Diversity Fellowship, and Research for Creative Projects Grant. Recently, she completed a residency at Vermont Studio Center. She lives in the Hudson Valley and teaches photography at SUNY New Paltz.Viktorsha's upcoming solo exhibit “Quieter than Water, Lower than Grass” is a multimedia installation that examines the fragility of memory and its impact on history, immigrant narratives ,and cultural identity. This work explores themes of migration, belonging, and domesticity. The opening is November 8 at Roundabouts Now Gallery in Kingston, with a panel discussion on November 16 featuring Marielena, Viktorsha, and two additional women artists whose work addresses these same themes.Today, we talk about the meaning of the show title, and how this Russian idiom permeated culture and played a role in repression and control. Viktorsha shares about the layers of her creative process and how this show came to be. We discuss some of the pieces, their meaning, the process in creating them, and the meaning behind that process. One of the main pieces in the exhibition is an installation of suspended large scale cyanotypes of "Brezhnevka"s, prefabricated  panel buildings that were built in the Soviet Union from 1964-1980. They were built fast and cheap and can still be found and seen throughout former Soviet states. Our conversation weaves through themes of assimilation, (uniform)ity, culture, healing, memory, domestication, femininity, the multidimensionality of softness, and belonging.Viktorsha's Project Statement: “Quieter Than Water, Lower than Grass'” is a multimedia project that explores the intersection between history, memory, and photographic evidence. The work employs analogue photographic processes , fabric, and video to explore remembrance, storytelling, and ancestral healing. Drawing from family albums, oral histories, and archival images, I construct narrativesthat have been hidden by the Soviet regime and are often invisible within the dominant historical discourse. The project takes its name from an old Soviet proverb which instills a behavior of keeping a low profile, avoiding any attention from the self, and acting in a way that does notgenerate conflict. The phrase has been used as a deliberate linguistic tool to disseminate imperialist ideologies, generate fear, and maintain repressive socio-political tactics throughout the USSR. This project outlines the importance of critically engaging with mainstream narrativesin order to unlearn them and see their limitations and biases.Quilts are powerful conveyors of the human experience. They are valuable historical documents and memory transmitters that honor storytelling and intergenerational knowledge. Using bed sheets , I hand-sew patchwork of imagery into quilt forms preserving not only my personal memories but also those obscured within the larger cultural and geo-political discourse. Each fabric piece will source from historical documents, family albums, and collected objects to explore, visualize, and underscore the complexity of post-Soviet trauma and immigrant experience. Blue is a color of peace, a color found in our dreams, our hopes, and our memories. It is the color of the sky, water, and our planet, Earth. The cyanotype process uses the natural elements of sun and water to register a photograph. While it is stable, the final result is prone to changing over time. Using this photographic technique allows me to address all of the themes that show up in my work such as identity, history, and memory, all of which are fragmented, mutating, and ever-changing.The project combines a collection of materials and techniques that reference matrilineage, ancestry, and transgenerational trauma. Through layering of fabrics and utilizing the deep blue hues of the cyanotype process, the work visualizes histories that have been hidden, obscured, and lost. The project examines the selective nature of memory, challenging historical biases and emphasizing the importance of community knowledge and healing. The final project will be presented to the public in an exhibition fostering cultural exchange, community dialogue, andbridging the gap between the personal and collective memories. Here's your New Moon Astrology!Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.Our show music is from Shana Falana!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFYITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCAFollow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast
