However futile, attempts to escape are made, yet pointless for the members of the baseball team, which has to play that evening, before the partying, when alcohol is to anesthetize their seat-sting. You've seen this movie before, more or less, but it's no less entertaining. As someone who gets a thrill out of smash-up genres and storylines, this movie had me at the Universal Pictures into, washed in red. If all you've done is read the reviews so far, it's pretty clear that the premise is generally based on the Mary Rodgers book, Freaky Friday, published nearly 50 years ago. Whether you've read the book or keep the Lindsay Lohan 2003 remake in your movie rotation, you know how freaky it can be trading places--and bodies--with your mother. Freaky takes this up a notch when high school wallflower Millie Kessler has a run-in with the murderous Blissfield Butcher, who is played oh-so-perfectly by Vince Vaughn. We know he's masterful at being a raucous wedding crasher and so uncomfortably excellent at playing Norman Bates, but I had NO idea he could pull off a timid teen so well! But I digress… This film is NOT a remake. It's more of a dark comedy-parody-tribute masterpiece with all the familiar tropes we love so much. The Thing, released in 1982, tells the story of 12 men who find themselves faced with an otherworldly terror in the harsh winter of Antarctica. What would appear to be a simple horror film about aliens is instead a gripping story about survival, mistrust, paranoia, and humanity. A critical and commercial flop upon initial release, the film has grown over the years to being acknowledged as one of the greatest horror films of all time. Join us as we take a deep dive into quite possibly John Carpenter's most effective work, The Thing. While also enjoying, just like our pal R.J. MacReady, J&B Scotch Whiskey. As always... Drive safe. Wealth, sex, drugs and corporate fraud. The early life of Jordan Belfort was one of extreme excess and addiction. In The Wolf of Wall Street, the movie based on his colorful life, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Belfort as a up-and-coming stockbroker who later becomes the eccentric head of the successful yet sketchy Stratton Oakmont brokerage firm. Along the way, Belfort becomes addicted to a variety of drugs, but the most powerful addiction he suffers from is money. Filled with a lot of ups and downs (mostly downs), The Wolf of Wall Street is delivered by a huge cast of A-List characters, played by the likes of Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Rob Reiner and Jon Bernthal, just to name a few. What does Belfort do when the greed of money takes over his life? What depths does he go to keep it? We find out as we dive into this film, directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese, while we sip on our Absolut vodka martinis. As always... Drive safe. Drink responsibly. Blade Runner is a story about what it means to be human, told from the perspective of a hardened police detective (called blade runners) on the hunt of four rogue replicants who have returned to Earth to seek out the man who created them. It's a film that shows us that everyone is not always what they seem. The film was plagued by a hectic production, heavy-handed studio involvement, and multiple versions. It stands as a testament to how sometimes it takes the passing of many years to reveal true beauty and depth of a project. Join us as we dive into Bladerunner while we enjoy a frothy Budweiser.
