Future Palace have dedicated an album to this feeling of overwhelm. On the new record “Distortion”, the Berlin post-hardcore trio deals with an almost oppressing mass of mental illnesses and problems. In doing so they create music that - appropriate to this topic - hits more hooks than ever before from one moment to the next, from the quietest depths to the loftiest heights. A central feature of Future Palace's music has always been the examination of the problems that primarily take place inside a person. “Distortion” is not only no exception in this context, but is also considered the brutal climax of this approach. The album title, which is derived from the psychological term cognitive distortion, represents a picture of a world in which the constant change in one's own perception causes one to fall into the same traps again and again from which there seems to be no way out. Future Palace prove that this confusing view of the world can manifest itself in many aspects by dealing with very different images of illnesses and people on “Distortion”, from ADHD to depression to narcissism. The Berlin band's third album is such an overwhelming force of emotions, struggles, negotiations, cycles and cries of desperation that the sheer amount alone can take your breath away when you listen to it.“I sang the entire album with a root infection”, says singer Maria Lessing. “We had to postpone the studio stay because I had a wisdom tooth surgery shortly before we started recording and had to struggle with a lockjaw for a few weeks. The demos then had to be completed at extremely short notice - that was pure stress for me. "The track deals with a sometimes tragic situation both — lyrically and instrumentally. It reflects inner turmoil, helplessness, and anger at the same time.""Dead Inside" is the kind of song that begs to be played live, as well. "The new songs not only sound different," he continues. "They also came from different feelings. We are therefore particularly looking forward to the live shows — because capturing these feelings in music is one thing. New episode out now. The provocative, imperious and engaging Swedish-based metal group SOEN reveal the thought-provoking and emotive video for ‘Illusion', taken from their fifth album, IMPERIAL, set for release via Silver Lining Music on January 29th 2021. Founder members Joel Ekelöf (vocals) and Martin Lopez (drums), along with Lars Enok Åhlund (keyboards and guitar), Oleksii “Zlatoyar” Kobel (bass) and Cody Ford (lead guitar), are an undeniable cypher for all the issues and emotions which swirl around us. The outfit once more step up to challenge our perceptions of life and humanity with ‘Illusion', an addictive ballad brimming with bewitching guitar riffs, powerhouse-soaring chorus and a poignant message for all of us to reflect on. “Illusion is a song about the shared responsibility amongst us if we wish to improve the world, change has to be made by us, you and me...the people” asserts Lopez. “It's about the frustration of feeling powerless but also the hope in realizing that things can be changed for the better” further Lopez, “if we stop criticizing each other and making enemies of ourselves by blindly following the ideas of politicians and their media.” Ekelöf affirms: “we can't just sit around and wait for those in power to help, they are preoccupied with battling each other in matters of greed and power.” “The ‘Illusion' video is about dreamers” comments video producer, Daniele Zed Berretta. “There are people who are ready to lose everything to follow their dreams, no matter the cost. Next single MARTIN GORE, songwriter and founding member of Depeche Mode, has today released the hypnotic video for his haunting new track, ‘Howler', directed by the acclaimed NYSU (Bastille, New Order, Wild Beasts). The track is taken from the forthcoming 5-track instrumental EP, The Third Chimpanzee, out 29 January 2021. Like a recurring nightmare that gets more vivid as time passes, the video draws on the pulsating beat of the track, taking us further into the torment as the video draws to a climax. “I resynthesized my voice and used warped delays and other manipulation effects on ‘Howler.' The end result was a sound that wasn't quite human, more monkey like.” Martin said of the track. “I really liked the idea of blurring the lines between monkeys and humans. Sometimes I think we just feel that we're so evolved, and that we're so much better. I have been questioning that quite a lot recently.” NYSU said of the video, “On first hearing ‘Howler' there was a feeling of being inside a Monkey's brain, its consciousness. It was brutal and primitive but, at the same time, so smart and almost human. Dubbed ‘The Branded Ones,' the group's fans joined and marched with them as they tore across the globe in support of debut EP 'The Interstice' and LP statement 'God Hand' which debuted at #20 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart.
