There's no better way to wrap up season 2 and end our debut year than being joined by a young man who has the fitness world at his feet. Jake is an extremely unique individual, not just for his athleticism but also due to the level of humility and maturity he possesses, traits that are often lost with a fast rise in popularity and status. In this episode we discuss all of Jake's achievements, from running his first marathon at 17yrs old to running a 2.28 marathon in Berlin earlier this year as well as his recent races that have enabled him to break into the Hyrox Elite 15. We dive into the training, nutrition and recovery routines and strategies Jake uses to ensure he is able to compete at world level, whilst also unpacking how to build through 5,10, half and full marathon distances. I've known of Jake for a few years now and every time our paths have crossed l've been left blown away by his attitude towards training, competing and helping others achieve their version on success. In this weeks episode I sit down with my mate Benny, an ex professional rugby player turned ultra endurance athlete. Benny is one of the OGs of Functional Fitness and we've been sharing workouts together from one side of the world to the other for a number of years now. Its been a bond forged by mutual respect for each other's accomplishments and our attitude towards training and competing. In this episode we discuss how to get started with setting and achieving your goals, constructing a training program conducive with Hybrid training and how to navigate the constant pressures of comparison and judgement. Benny is an example of someone who works and competes hard but also maintains a level of perspective as a constant reminder that we do all this for 'fun'.
In this episode I sit down with Australian strength coach, Sean Mcinroy. We discuss everything you need to know about building confidence in the gym as well as how to crush your strength training goals regardless of your training age. Sean is not only an educator and online coach but he's also all round great bloke who happens to be one of the fitness industries greatest ambassadors. In a world where training is often made unnecessarily complicated, Sean keeps things simple and effective and it's why l've also enjoyed training alongside and learning from him.
Nedd needs little introduction, he is quite literally in a league of his own, a definitive '1 of 1'. I came across Nedd a couple of years ago during his run across Australia where he ran 4000km in 47 days, an average of 87km a day. It was a challenge that captured the imagine of myself and 1000s around a world. More recently Nedd took on his biggest challenge to date, running 1000 miles around a running track. It was during this challenge that those of us watching were able to witness just how far the human body can go when its master refuses to quit. He's been running for 4 years and raised over $9 million for homelessness charities, a cause very close to his heart. His rise to notoriety has nothing to do with fame or clout and everything to do with an obsession with pushing himself to the brink and a dedication to making a difference. The dog in Nedd is like nothing l've witnessed before and I'm confident this episode will leave a lasting mark on everyone as it did on me.
