When Caitanya Mahāprabhu asked, "What is the most unbearable pain in this world?" He said, "The most unbearable pain in this world is separation from the Vaiṣṇava." There's nothing more severe than that, which indicates that the way that one finds this thread of connection is to become very deeply attached to a Vaiṣṇava. The way to become most definitely connected is through service necessity. The service is passed down through the disciplic succession. If one can find a Vaiṣṇava who's fully engaged in service, having had that bequeath to him or her, and then one is able to take that same service mood, then one also, even more readily, becomes attached to Kṛṣṇa through that service from the Vaiṣṇavas. And we find the same taste and association with the Vaiṣṇavas when we're able to associate and serve Vaiṣṇavas. Prabhupāda writes in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā, first chapter, that in the absence of one's spiritual master, one should take the instruction of the spiritual master as one's life and soul; even if there's some physical separation, one never feels separated. I had experienced this when Prabhupāda left the world, and I was in New York at the time, at 340 West 55th. And every day, I was going to LaGuardia Airport with my godbrother Praghoṣa. As we heard the news that Prabhupāda left there in the temple, we stayed up all night chanting, and there was a feast the next morning. Everyone was emotionally and physically exhausted, but Praghoṣa came to get me, and he said, "Of all days, today we have to go out and do our service." And we got in our station wagon, and we drove to LaGuardia Airport rather dazed. As I went up the escalator to approach the place I usually would distribute books, I felt disconnected from the world. But as soon as I stepped on that little area where I was supposed to stand every day going to the airport, I suddenly felt this acute sense of connection to Prabhupāda that I had not felt so acutely throughout my devotional life. Because I put my foot on the floor, there was a sense of spiritual electricity coming through, and a revelation that you'll never be separated, because that service is there. And through our service, we can actually take the power of Kṛṣṇa's presence. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #service #caitanyacaritamrita #caitanya #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Here I am between James Brooks the Long Island artist who in 1940-42 painted a huge mural titled, “Flight” affixed on Belgian Linen on the upper walls of The Marine Air Terminal (MAT) at LaGuardia Airport and Laurance Rockefeller who put up the money to save the mural after he learned it was painted out of sight (read on) in 1952.Once upon a time I was hell bent for leather working with my air cargo publication Air Cargo News in 1979 to save The Marine Air Terminal (MAT) at LGA, home base in New York City to Fixed Base Operator (FBO) Butler Aviation, today's Signature Aviation. The manager of Butler was Vince Costanza and I, as a struggling publisher, was in a kind of kinship with him to save the place by restoring the WPA Mural painted by James Brooks in 1942.Mural was painted over in 1952 by some McCarthy era lunatics from The Port Authority who thought artist Brooks was a communist. But I found the artist and told him if he gave me photographs of the panels of his 237 feet circular X 12 feet high mural titled “Flight,” I would build a floor display in the lobby outside the door of the Butler Aviation FBO, where during the late 1970s at MAT, all the New York City high rollers had a private airplanes at LGA Well Vince and the Airport Manager Tim Peirce (dear hearts) gave consent and support so I built the display.I needed sponsors and always could lean on Vince who would grin and say something like:“Yeah, I can help, we are pumping Kero like crazy.”Last I heard, Vince was selling Bibles in Massachusetts.Of course, the Port Authority here has never spoken to me again! But at the mural restoration/celebration sit down dinner, I arranged in 1980 for all the art colony big wigs to be there, including William Lieberman, Director of Manhattan's Museum of Modern Art and many others. At that party Laurance Rockefeller walked over and said to me very quietly:“I'd like to stand next to you . . . I know what you did here.“I saw your display one day when I was travelling with my friend Dewitt Wallace,” (founder of Reader's Digest).Of course, before I could say something stupid like ‘knock yourself out,' he said, “call me Laurance.”He then continued, “When my brother Nelson was Governor of New York State, he hired Jim to paint a mural for Empire State Plaza.“We checked him thoroughly.“He was no Communist!”Shortly after the party, I received a hand signed picture from “Call me Laurance” with himself taking tea with me at the party.Good to have low friends in high places!
It was exciting the first time I landed at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. There's the skyline of Manhattan out the window, and water all around us as the plane touched down on the runway. It was only after I had landed that my host in New York told me how they built LaGuardia Airport. He said, "Oh, they built it on the garbage of New York." Landfill in the bay created a base on which an airport could be built. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Recycling Your Personal Garbage." It's amazing what they can do with garbage, isn't it? They recycle what seems vile and useless and they make it into something useful. That's the very kind of miracle God's been doing for people for a long time, and He wants to do it for you. In a past summer God used the brokenness, the courage of a team of young Native Americans to bring unprecedented numbers of reservation young people to a commitment to Jesus Christ. I've seen it for like 32 summers. Some of the most powerful moments we experienced with our "On Eagles' Wings" team were when some of these young people, representing some 20 or more different tribes, stood in the middle of Indian villages and shared what they call their Hope Story. They poured out the pain of some horrific backgrounds, and then the incredible hope they have found in Jesus Christ. And kids who listen to no one listened to them, and over the summer hundreds gave themselves publicly to Jesus Christ. One night, at a reservation outreach, Mary shared her heart-wrenching story of sexual abuse and the drugs and alcohol she used to sedate her pain. It's a story that's always hard for her to tell, but one which powerfully turns young people's hearts to Jesus. After telling her story at a second outreach, Mary came to me and said, "I can't believe how God uses the stuff I've been through to change so many lives." That's it. Garbage, recycled by God, to help other people find life and find hope. In Genesis 50:20, our word for today from the Word of God, Joseph summarizes the perspective God has given him on the junk of his life. He's been nearly murdered by his brothers as a teenager, he's been sold into slavery, unjustly imprisoned in a foreign land, but ultimately rescued by God and made the assistant Pharaoh of Egypt, the second most powerful man in the world. In that position, his God-directed plans to prepare for a coming famine, saves many lives in Egypt and even the lives of the brothers who betrayed him many years before. No betrayal and he never would have been in Egypt. No Egypt and many would have died, possibly even his own family. So here's Joseph's summary of it all, explained to his brothers: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish...the saving of many lives." See, that's what God wants to do with all the garbage of your life - make it into something that can touch and heal many other lives. If you'll release all that junk, all that pain to Jesus, He alone can heal it and He alone can redeem it, and He'll make it into a magnet for some other hurting lives. If you harbor it, it's just going to make you hard and bitter and largely useless in a wounded world. But if you surrender all that garbage to Jesus, He can turn it into a beautiful compassion, because you know how it feels. And that will cause many other struggling people to identify with you, to open their hearts to you, to trust you, and perhaps to let you lead them to your Jesus. He's the One who was "a man of sorrows," the Bible says, "familiar with suffering" who "took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows." And the Bible says it is, "by His wounds we are healed" (Isaiah 53:4-5). Or in the words of a broken young native woman who has experienced His healing, He will "use the things you've been through to change so many lives."
There was a time when New York's LaGuardia airport was the butt of infrastructure jokes. Now, it's often cited as one of the best airports in the country. Just this week, video of a UFO taken by a passenger on a plane coming in for a landing at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York, made international news. Video footage of UFOs constantly appears online and more often than not leads to a dead end for researchers trying to identify witnesses or turns out to be faked. In this case, not only was the witness identified, but she appeared on News Nation for an interview, along with a researcher looking into the case who considered the video to be authentic. The witness is Michelle Reyes, who was capturing video of the New York skyline while sitting next to her daughter, who had the window seat. The Verrazano Bridge is centered in the frame as a black, elongated, oval-shaped UFO goes whizzing by from right to left, which in this case is northeast to southwest. Reyes posted the video on Facebook, and researcher/investigator Ben Hansen (who was a guest on PodcastUFO on February 16, 2021) managed to find her and interview her. At 4' 11” tall, Teresa was known as a “little dynamo.” She was intelligent, abrupt, forceful, and, above all, caring. She always wore high heels, and she always spoke in an urgent manner. Nothing was ever blasé when it came to Dr. Sievers. The four members of the Sievers family took a short trip to Connecticut for a family reunion, leaving on Friday, June 26th. Teresa decided to cut her visit short and head back to Florida to prepare for her workload the next week. There was no point in making Mark or their daughters cut their visit short, so she took a solo flight home. Mark dropped her off at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. It was the last time he would see her alive.Join Jen and Cam as they discuss 'Best Laid Plans: Teresa Sievers.'Thank you to our team:Written and researched by Lauretta AllenListener Discretion by Edward October from OctoberpodVHSExecutive Producer Nico Vitesse of The Inky Paw PrintSources:https://www.aetv.com/real-crime/why-teresa-sievers-florida-physician-and-mother-of-two-was-bludgeoned-to-deathhttps://winknews.com/2022/06/29/teresa-sievers-convicted-killer-jimmy-rodgers-claims-innocence-plans-to-file-for-new-trial/https://winknews.com/2023/03/10/teresa-sievers-convicted-killer-jimmy-rodgers-files-second-appeal/https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/husbands-chilling-plot-kill-wife-21712683https://www.news-press.com/story/news/crime/2022/12/27/mark-sievers-files-motion-after-death-row-appeal-denied/69729001007/https://winknews.com/2022/11/17/florida-supreme-court-rejects-mark-sievers-appeal-of-murder-conviction/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tk4LwJXXT0&ab_channel=48Hourshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkvUEiQUtQY&ab_channel=TrueCrimeDailyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gktAx68hsGE&ab_channel=Law%26CrimeNetworkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOO3U3w_jmk&ab_channel=COURTTVhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhfWxAqOcuI&ab_channel=TrueCrimeRecapshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Teresa_Sievers https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/148552210/teresa-ann_grace-sievershttps://www.newspapers.com/image/822080660/terms=Teresa%20Sievers%20obituary&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/805896224/?terms=Teresa%20Sievers%20obituary&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/806803536/?terms=Teresa%20Sievers%20&match=1 (Timeline)https://www.news-press.com/story/news/crime/2016/05/17/1000-pages-mark-sievers-phone-records-released/84497468/https://www.naplesnews.com/story/news/crime/2016/02/29/new-documents-detail-mark-sievers-behavior-following-wifes-killing/85728798/
This is the All Local 4pm update for Monday, March 11th, 2024.
Governor Kathy Hochul defends her plan of having National Guard soldiers check bags at subway entrances. Meanwhile, on Friday, the New York City Council will get a bill to stop landlords from using illegal city vacate orders to evict tenants. Also, the transportation company Revel is expanding access to electric vehicle charging near LaGuardia Airport. Plus, WNYC's Sean Carlson talks with Ricot Depuy, co-founder of Radio Soleil, a Haitian radio station in Brooklyn to get a sense of how Haitians are reacting to the state of emergency in their home country. Finally, a new investigation reveals egregious abuse in New York's guardianship system. That's the system in which people are assigned a guardian to look after them because they can't take care of themselves. Guardians often work for non-profits overseeing an extraordinary number of people with little oversight. WNYC's Michael Hill speaks with ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson for an exclusive look at his findings.
I love the view of Manhattan when you fly into LaGuardia Airport. The view around the runways? Not so much. Water on three sides. The thought has crossed my mind, "A plane could end up in the water some day." On March 6, 2015, one almost did with 127 passengers on board. A jetliner that slid off the runway, crashing through a fence - its nose virtually in the water. A passenger said he knew the wheels weren't getting traction on that icy runway that day. Next thing - the jet was sliding uncontrollably to the left, off the runway and to the edge of the East River with some passengers crying, some praying, and some frantic. This young man named Jared was praying. He told the reporter, "Something like this makes you reflect on your relationship with God. God must not be done writing the story of my life." If God hasn't mattered much before, He really matters when you may have been seconds away from seeing Him. I've had a couple of pretty close calls in my life; some on an airplane, some in a car. And you really do - or you really should - start asking the bottom line questions we're usually too busy to consider. Somewhere along the way, we all get our wake-up call. So we'll stop and examine our life, our priorities, our relationship with God, and our eternal destination. Moments that bring us to the brink of eternity point us to life's big questions. What really matters and what really doesn't? Why am I here? Why did God spare me? If this had been the end, what then? I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Plane on the Edge and Life's Bottom Line." The meaning of our life? The only One who can tell us is the One who gave us our life. And He has in His Book. We are, He says in the Bible, "created by Him and for Him" (Colossians 1:16). Problem: I've lived pretty much for me. So I'm missing my purpose until I know my Creator. What really matters? Well, Ecclesiastes 3:11 says "God has set eternity in the hearts of men." What matters - and all that satisfies - is what will last forever. What about eternity? God says in our word for today from the Word of God in Hebrews 9:27, that man is "destined to die once and after that comes judgment." That can be disturbing because we're not ready. Because, as the Bible says, "your sins have cut you off from God" (Isaiah 59:2), and that's a terrible way to meet God. Thank God for Jesus! On that bloody Good Friday, I'll read you these five life-changing words right out of the Bible, "Christ died for our sins" (1 Corinthians 15:3). So we don't have to. He loved us. He didn't want to lose you. And the Bible gives us this best of good news in John 3:36, "anyone who believes in God's Son has eternal life." What does it mean to believe in Jesus? It doesn't just mean to agree with His teachings, or like Him, or know a lot about Him. No, it's what happened the day I was drowning when I was ten years old and a man jumped in to save me. I grabbed him like he was my only hope, because he was. I'd have died without him. You know, that's what it means to believe in Jesus. You grab Him like He's your only hope. He is your only hope, because no one else died for your sins. If you don't take His death for you, you pay for your sins. No one else can give you eternal life because no one else has got it except the man who walked out of His grave. This day He is ready to make you ready for eternity by changing a death penalty for your sin to eternal life you could never earn and never deserved. I'd love to show you how to begin that relationship with Him if you'd just go to our website ANewStory.com. In a very short time there I think you'll understand how to begin that relationship with Jesus Christ. I gave myself to this Jesus. And because of Him, I - and millions like me - have this anchored peace, even in the face of death. I'm ready for eternity whenever or however it comes. And you can be too.

In this special episode we will be exploring the incredible life of Pan Am Captain Robert Ford, a trailblazing flying boat aviator that found international fame with an unscheduled flight round the globe. And we welcome back to the program Pan Am 747 Captain John Marshall that knew Pan Am legend Captain Robert Ford and recorded an interview with him in 1994 shortly before he died.Excerpts of this rare interview are played and you will get to hear the actual voice of Captain Ford talking about his aviation career in the late 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s!In December of 1941, Captain Ford was ferrying mail and passengers from San Francisco to New Zealand aboard a Pan Am Boeing 314 flying boat named the Pacific Clipper. On December 7, 1941, Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor and Captain Ford was ordered to evade the enemy and prevent the Japanese from capturing the aircraft for its technology. Skirting the trouble zone and watching for enemy aircraft, he headed the flying boat west over Australia, India and Central Africa, then crossed to South America, eventually making a safe landing at the Marine Terminal at what is now La Guardia Airport in New York on Jan. 6, 1942.The entire trip covered 31,500 miles in 209.5 hours of flying time, some of it over war territory. The Clipper had a range of 4,500 miles, and its longest single flight was 3,583 miles across the South Atlantic from Central Africa, to Brazil. Captain Ford, who was then 35 at the time, called his round-the-world flight "a purely routine operation."Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1906, Captain Robert Ford earned his wings as a naval aviator before joining Pan American Airways in 1933. He flew Pan Am's routes in Central and South American, as well as, the Caribbean before transferring to the Atlantic division in 1939, flying Clippers between New York and Lisbon. He shifted to the Pacific route in July 1941. Before his round-the-globe journey, he had completed some 50 flights across the two oceans. After retiring in 1952 from Pan Am, Captain Ford became a cattle rancher in Penn Valley, California, north of Sacramento. He died in October of 1994 at the age of 88. At the time of his death, he had been a rancher for 45 years.Special thanks to Captain John Marshall, board member of the Pan Am Museum Foundation, for allowing this program to use his 1994 interview with Captain Ford. --------------------Visit Us for more Pan Am History!
