Phase 2 of the national speed limit review process has commenced. Work has begun to facilitate the introduction of a 30kmh special speed limit in built-up and urban areas in County Clare. The government circular has indicated that all byelaws are brought to the Elected Members for adoption by 30th October 2026 with an implementation date of 31st March 2027. It is the intention to propose a 30kph speed limit in urban cores of towns where there is significant interaction with vulnerable road users and a greater concentration of economic activity and footfall. All proposals will be determined in accordance with the latest “Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits”. Mapping of the proposed speed limits is now being prepared for workshops with the Elected Members in Q2 following consultation with the Gardai. Wellington City Council has signed off on a radical proposal to cut speed limits in the city. The proposal would bring down speed limits to 30km/h on most streets and 40km/h on main roads. City Councillor's Iona Pannet and Diane Calvert spoke to Susie Ferguson.

Auckland streets may be about to get a bit safer, with plans for lower speed limits on more than 1600 roads across the city. Nearly a thousand of them are around 82 schools in the city. It's a move Auckland Transport says will help children get to school safely. Our reporter Louise Ternouth and cameraman Nick Monro joined the school run.

L'objectif est d'améliorer la sécurité, baisser la pollution sonore, mais surtout de réduire au maximum l'utilisation de la voiture en ville, et évidemment, ça fait débat !
