Chris shares about how his big trip to Rome didn't quite go as planned. He and his daughter went for the canonization of Bl. Carlo Acutis but with the Pope's passing, that was cancelled. Instead, they were able to attend the Papal Funeral and so much more in their time at the base camp of our Church. Chris also shares about losing a family member during this trip, how complicated grief can be and how we all experience it differently. Kendra's husband, Chris Bartlett, is back on the podcast today. We have had several episodes with Chris over the years. He has over 20 years of youth ministry experience in the Catholic Church and is currently the Vice President of Ablaze Ministries. Ablaze Ministries trains and empowers youth ministers across the country in their mission with the teens of their parish. In this conversation Chris shares with us our call as Catholics to share the gospel to people around us and invite them into relationship with Christ and His Church. He tells us an amazing story of when God invited Him to be vulnerable with a man in a mosh pit at a punk concert. He gives us tips of how to be on mission where we live, work and play. It turns out that it doesn't take a lot of programming or training. The most powerful way to evangelize is to live the faith and love people around you. I think we can all do that, don't you? In this 1 on 1 conversation, Christina speaks with Chris Bartlett, founder of EQUIPT about EQUIPT's innovation mission and purpose of providing book summaries from a Catholic perspective in order to help Catholics come to know God and make Him known in the world. Catholic Book Summaries for Catholic Disciples? Yep. Do you have a HUGE pile of books next to your bed that you are intending to read, but never get around to reading them? Well, you might want to check out this conversation that I recently had with Chris Bartlett, founder of Equipt. What exactly is Equipt? It is a book summary platform that offers summaries of the most relevant books in leadership, Christian formation, and spiritual growth through the lens of Catholic Discipleship. Very simply, it's Cliffnotes (or Blinkist) for Catholics. But better. I came across Equipt soon after they launched their service, and I immediately reached out to Chris to have a discussion about this innovative and timely idea, and Chris graciously agreed to sit down with me. During our conversation, I discovered that Chris lives in Round Rock, Texas with his wife and children where he also serves as the Director of Leadership Formation for Ablaze Ministries. I had come across Ablaze Ministries before as they intentionally invest into ministry leaders, especially those involved with youth, so had seen some of their brilliant work which includes a 360 approach towards Youth Ministry. It is from his work with Ablaze and supporting ministry leaders that Equipt emerged as a needed resource, especially in order to assist people in being formed holistically. Equipt focuses upon sharing three books a month, one book for spiritual development, one for human formation and another for leadership best ideas/practices. The idea of these three categories came from the need seen to help people grow in their their baptismal call as priest (spiritual), prophet (formation) and king (leadership), and the desire to help people "know God and make God known." Additionally, the summaries come in audio and PDF form, and the best part (for me at least) is that each summary ends with a "takeaways" breakdown from which you can easily develop some daily resolutions and apply the ideas immediately to your life. And all that for barely more than a cup of latte! Needless to say, I am a HUGE fan, but I think you'll be convinced once you listen to our conversation, too! On Wednesday August 28, host Judy Comeaux brought in Bryan/College Station local, Matt Rice. Matt is a co-founder of Ablaze Ministries, and a new monthly gathering called The Well – it offers practical insights through biblical instruction, dynamic worship, and genuine community. In the first part of the show, Judy talked about St. Augustine and his mother, St. Monica. The two go hand in hand as St. Monica was Augustine’s mother and prayed for his (and her husband’s) conversion to Christianity for roughly 33 years – and it happened! Her persistence is inspiring, and St. Augustine is perhaps the greatest sinner turned saint story in Church history! Learn more about these great saints here! In the second part of the show, Matt Rice talked about his experience in youth ministry. He has recognized patterns of instability with youth ministries across parishes and wanted to do something about it. This realization was what sparked the creation of Ablaze Ministries. They provide ministry from a 360° approach by ministering to the youth, parents, and youth ministers. To learn more about Ablaze Ministries, click here. Matt also talked about One Hope, and its April 25, 2020 gathering at Kyle Field for praise and worship, which will bring together people across all denominations! One Hope is what sparked the idea of The Well. Tune in to hear more about these great ministries and to see how you can get involved!

How can you invest in yourself and support your ministry during the holidays? That's what Chris & Matt tackle on this episode of Ministry Leaders Anonymous. Obviously Advent & Christmas are high points in the Christian calendar, but sometimes we don't give it our proper attention because there's so many other things we must get done. Sadly, when someone hears the Catholic Church in the news, they most likely expect to hear about the brokenness and often atrocious acts of those who abuse their power and office. But how do we, the ministry leaders that are working every day to show the love of God, respond when scandal becomes such a large shadow on the the Church? What should we feel? What should we do next? None of the answers are easy, but join Matt & Chris this week in trying to detangle the effects on ourselves and our ministries. There is no greater feeling than seeing the fruits of your labor in ministry. But 99% of the time, we don't see how God is working in the hearts of those we serve. This week, Chris & Matt talk about the StoryBrand Process by Donald Miller and how it can be used in your ministry. We know that sometimes we believe that our ministry or our job is to save those we serve. But no one sees themselves as the victim in their story; they see themselves as the hero! And our job, as ministry leaders is to act as a guide, not a savior, because they already have a savior, and He's pretty good at what He does. We had a Forte Catholic record 9 people in studio for the recording of this episode! Last month, Ablaze Ministries took Junior High students to camp. Here, I interview 3 campers, two of their parents and a high school counselor on the impact camp and youth ministry have had on their lives from each of their unique perspectives. I also pit the youth vs. the parents in an epic trivia game called "Taylor Swift or Lamentations"(DownloadYouthMinistry.com) where I read a line and they have to guess who said it. Hilarity ensued. If you are in ministry, love youth ministry, have kids or have fond memories of your time as a young person in the Church, you will enjoy this episode.
